You can open .KAR files in QuickTime Player, save them as .MOV, and
they work fine in Director. The music plays using QuickTime
instruments, and the text highlights in time with the music.

frame 5 where the vid is. The flash audio is still heard although the vid

That's fine, but for some reason when the movie advances to the
next frame, a frame with no frame advancing script in it - it still does it.
There's a bug in the Flash asset (which I'm not sure if and when it
was fixed), where setting the frame of the Flash sprite could throw
it into playing.
I've done the same with fontsize, with the same result--the entire
cast member (and sprite) ends up the same font and spacing.
The solution is to put hard returns at the end of each visual line.
You can do that by using the charpostoloc() function to work out

performance with 8 bit mono, 16 bit mono and 16 bit stereo. I mean,
should one always go for the better quality?
If you are using SWA, I think it is converted to 16 bit anyway. As
for stereo or mono, you are sharing the channels
