I'm not new at all to netlingo stuff, and it was always my understanding
that preloading a file would bring it to the user's cache, whereas anotehr
request for the same file would pull from the local cached file rather
than the remote one, correct

But is the older pdf xtra compatible with 5? Doesn't seem to be - at least
on mac; on windows you can have a workaround with includeing a 4.0 reader
on the cd.

This is true of director 7 and 8 but not of director 8.5.. if you happen to
be using D8.5 then you will need to add the line

This is a text file, and you can edit it with Notepad (or SimpleText if

I assume that you are going to put in an Alert. however, I don't think that
you can do this in the prepareMovie. I think you will need to do it
