will your BIOS allow you to boot from a CD? put the first CD in the
"cupholder" and give it a slide towards the box, it should close and then
boot up from the CD and select INSTALL and expert. repartition the hard drive
to suit you... you will like MDK, it installs smoothly and only too simple.
this (in my personal experiance) is a CD that has one scratch that is
screwing with only a few programs. (or it may be a screwed CDreader). try the
install again, this time install just a few programs (and if you are
watching, you may find it tells you (earlier in the copy process) what file

I really can't speak about the powerpack (exactly) since I have the Prosuite
DVD+8 CDs, however I did notice that when I searched for "kpackage" in
software mangler, it did not show it as installed or in the list of sources,
however when right mouse click on an RPM, it is one of the menu choice
maybe just "man pppd" could be your friend?
