I just installed Mandrake Linux 8.1. The kde startup sound does not play
upon logging into kde.
I have it checked off in the System Notification section in the Control
Center and when I click on play the sound it plays.
The weird thing is that the exiting sound plays when I logout out of kde

If you are sure that you can get usb working, then go for it, its much much
faster then parallel...
Firewire or USB2 would be much faster again, but normal USB is alot better
for throughput then parallel.

if they are not mounting, it is because super mount was causing problems.
you may want to try kwikdisk, which comes with 8.1 and places an icon on the
kde kicker which you can right click and use tto mount your drives.
