Still no joy. The CDROM still takes ages to mount. It almost as if something is tying up a bunch of low-level system stuff until it expires on a time-out. This is really interfering with using Mandrake 9.0. I might blame it on slow hardware (a 100MHz Pentium), except no such delays occur with
