I can reach the internet using the same cable modem at
the same location on a different machine running red
hat 6.2 with eth0 configured for dhcp.
Try removing the NIC from the other machine and install it in the new
machine.

Your not messing/playing around with a 2.5 or 2.6 kernel are you?
I know from experience that dhcpclient breaks with those kernels.. The
way I got around it was to set a static ip (also make sure your
gateway

authenticate with the ISP.
Earlier in my trouble shooting I tried what you
suggested for setting the eth0 MAC address to the same
MAC address of the NIC on a machine I have
successfully used to assess the internet with the
cable modem. But eth0
I only put one machine on the internet at a time.
Forgive if redundant to any previous questioning

1) Move the cable from the ethernet port on working
machine
to ethernet port on broken machine.
