My Touch plays music quite nicely from a 16GB SDHC card.
Mostly high bit-rate MP3, some FLAC, etc.
Organization: Just the "normal" three level Artist/Album/Track
structure starting in the root of the card.

The Western Digital "My Passport" drives came with two partitions the
last time I looked. There's a procedure to make the "CD" software
partition invisible I think.
As the Touch was designed before USB3 came out, perhaps that's part of
the problem wit
SBS on the computer. Which, BTW, had problems
completing a rescan (which may be due to a conflict with Microsoft
Security Essentials. I've now excluded MYI and MYD files, but haven't
tried to do a rescan.)

My Touch has, over the last few weeks, decided not to honor "Add to End"
from the touch screen when trying to add an album to the playlist. BUT
it works fine from the IR remote. It did this before and after the
3/29 7.5.3-r9377 update.

A curious approach. I'd have thought that selecting individual

Thanks for the mention of this review. My copy of the magazine was in
the mail along with Stereophile. Since I'd been looking forward to
Kal's Stereophile review, I hadn't even opened HT.
It's always nice to read another favorable review of a product that you
ts, so I guess there's an easy upgrade path.
I've been running essentially standalone, but now that I've established
a solid internet connection, I'm looking forward to trying out internet
radio options.

I have a 320 GB WD My Passport (not latest model) formatted NTFS and it

reliably say that I CANNOT "easily discern the difference in quality of

My bottom line - the slideshow is only useful as a screen saver for

So much for slideshows.

read
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77523 about a missing
clock. After a power interruption, it seems that the Touch needs to
connect to the internet to get the clock going again. Otherwise in
"Off" or "Stopped"
I was able to "borrow" a neighbor's wireless internet connection.
Initially the connection was quite weak - 5 to 8 percent according to
the Touch. No luck with the clock. Later on, the signal strength had
improved to 15 percent, and the clock screen-savers were again
functional.

The latest newsletter from HD Tracks promotes some new 96/24 material
from the New York Philharmonic. Perhaps these recordings follow a

HDtracks hires Puget Sound Studios (PSS) to convert from SACD
to PCM.
PSS takes a CSO Resound SACD and runs its DSD output through the EMM
gear to produce PCM.
If mortslim is correct, the EMM output is limited to 44.1 KHz (though
perhaps it is at 24 bits).
Then the PCM is upsampled to 88.2
A bit of searching the web found this article about the CSO's in-house
