Thanks for the help!
I have Debian 7.1 with Linux-libre 3.2.
I will try to install Trisquel and Trisquel Mini on VirtualBox and see how it
goes.
This will be my last post on this topic...I promise :)

I understand what you mean now. If I run into a problem like this again, I
will try that approach. By the way, the system seems to be working well so
far. I initially considered reinstalling it, but so far I think there is no
need.
Thanks again for your help.

I do not know for sure (I have never had any Facebook account) but it looks
extremely easy. When adding an account (from the Accounts menu or using
Ctrl+A), one of the proposed protocols is Facebook (XMPP).
I have the same problem.

You can try with a CD or DVD. Was easy and it really works.
There is nothing wrong in that file. Are you sure it was not a temporary
problem (http://archive.trisquel.info down for some time), i.e., is the
problem persisting?
I tried, but my Mac refuses to see bootable DVDs other than Mac DVD and
ejects them in a few seconds. I will try my luck with Trisquel Mini. Debian
has crashed because I pressed spacebar to preview a file...
Have not got any luck with Trisquel Mini either. I tried to install it in
text mode. Here is what I got:
Loading casper/vmlinuz...
Could not find ramdisk image: casper initrd/netist
Any tips?
Tried NetInstall too, but my system did not see the USB stick.
The last option is to install Ubuntu
I've successfully installed Trisquel Mini on an old CPU from an USB. But when
I installed it on my second CPU (using the same usb) I just can use it in
text mode...I've tried to install it again without success. Any ideas?

Facebook respects your freedom if you use the mbasic mode.

I don't know what oralfloss means by this. I imagine mbasic mode is some sort

I noticed that the criminal justice system in my town works with proprietary
video formats. I'm thinking of asking the government to use free formats
instead.
I have some questions -- but here's some background info first:

For video, there's also Matroska. For audio, don't forget Opus.
It's important to note that while PDF itself is free, some PDF files created
by Adobe's software have DRM that makes them only work in Adobe Reader.
That's no good.
m.facebook.com is as close to fre as you're likely to get. It even works
with a browser like lynx or emacs-w3m. I use facebook xmpp chat; wish it had
audio. Facebook can be used with free software on the client side, as a
service. True, it's not ideal...
In any case I doubt facebook even releases the source of all the code you
run through their server. Much less give you the ability to copy or modify
it. I don't see how this could respect your freedom. Without further
explanation I would say it does not.
This is true for most of the sites
The only issue is that the stamp may have been designed with non-free
software, and the postal service may use non-free sorting systems. Hopefully,
they don't have any system to read the letter.
Honestly, I think that is over thinking this. I couldn't care less how they
made the stamp, I

Well said. I think people these days need to take a look at your past life
(through the net) before they decide if they want to be your friends. Lol
quite a stupid concept if you ask me :P
hey, you convinced two people... you should be happy, that is more than most
of us can actually ;)
SoundCloud is now non-Free again. With Abrowser 24.0, it no longer works. A
few weeks ago, I could play things fine, but now it prompts you to install

Unfortunately I think neither of them convinced anyone else yet. I don't lose
hope though.
My feeling is that I deserve control over the programs I run, whether on my
computer or not. You are right that it is the case that many websites try to
run code (beside html...and you can see that source, if you consider it
code). I try not to use run any of the so called web 2.0 shit. No
I see. I have no clue about facebook, mobile or not. It may be as close as
you are likely to get, if you want to use facebook. You can still be freer

The fb chat is not xmpp. From facebook developers page:

You aren't running them if they aren't on the computer you are using. If you

their computer.

I would not talk about incompatibilities with operating systems or even with

I would focus on the root of the problem. Maybe this article would inspire

I just went through my first net install a real easy process. But I made the

Internet forums have been around since the early 80's. Added to that,
trisquel.info is community funded. We are users. On facebook and other such
services, you are the product, not the user. Maybe the term web 2.0 was
confusing. I don't use SaaSS.
I've tried adding the PPA from here:

but it's not doing anything for me. Is there an easy way for someone without
technical knowledge to get VLC up-to-date?

Indeed, it is not physical coercion, which is what I guess you are referring

psychological and social; facebook employs those types of coercion.

I believe this logical fallacy is sometimes called reductio ad absurdum. I
insist there is a difference between my posting on the Trisquel forum and
using facebook, a mass surveillance, data mining, profiling system. This is
not black and white.
They are both SaaSS.

You can switch to a terminal with Ctrl+Alt+F1 (or F2 or F3 or ... or F6).
After logging in, you can fix your problem. To remove all graphical

packages that depend on it):
$ sudo apt-get remove --purge x11-common
Trisquel is not SaaSS and neither is Facebook (for the most part): SaaSS is
doing your own computing on someone else server when you could do it on your
own computer. For instance using an online translator instead of installing
one on your system.
