I think everyone’s missing the point here. Apple’s accessibility team is not
just focusing on VoiceOver, they’re focusing on an entire set of features,
covering different disabilities. Furthermore, they’ve now got 4 operating
systems to focus on, rather than 2.

When I do the gesture, I ut just a small gap between my two fingers, then do
the back and forth motion. It doesn't have to be a very big back and forth
motion.

I'll give this a try this weekend, but I did restore my phone when I
upgraded to IOS 9. I'm also running IOS 9.1, and I participated in the
IOS 9.1 beta since I didn't figure I had anything to lose. I'm not
optimistic this will solve the problem, but I'll give it a try.
