Makes much sense.

INLINE, much more than BLOCK, is about* fluidity of writing. *
A simple approach looks appropriate.

In line with that I'm most concerned that markup is as COMPACT AS POSSIBLE 
(i.e. single character open & close strings). The MAIN innovations in your 
approach are ...

1 - enabling the use of HTML INLINE ELEMENTS (eventually).

 and

2 - NESTING. 

IMO this combo will do more to AID WRITERS than any other aspect of Custom 
Markup.

It is a far superior to current Inline WikiText which is an over verbose 
and somewhat blunt instrument.
