Hello, its Peter here and welcome to Tuesdays Levy Letter. I hope your day is going well and I hope youll be able to join me tonight on BBC One at 6.30pm. Ill have all the days news and Paul will have the forecast.
Tonight, Look North will be tackling childhood obesity in the region. As you know Hull has been classed as the obesity capital of Europe. Well, well be looking at how to deal with weight problems from an early age. Suggestions have been made to have exclusion zones around schools to keep ice cream vans and burger vans away. Ill have more on that later. A few of you have emailed in on this one, asking us to find out what all this yellow dust is that we keep finding on the roofs of our cars and on our window sills. Well, Ill be investigating the case of this strange yellow dust on the programme tonight. Join me then to find out what it is! And my special guest tonight is Samantha Giles. Youll know her from the ITV drama, Where The Heart Is. Well, shes now left that programme and is coming to Sheffield in a new play. Samantha will be telling me all about that tonight. I hope you can join me then. Emails Thanks very much indeed for all the emails on a variety of subjects. They have been on things that weve been talking about on the programme and also in the Letter in these last few days. Keep them coming in. If youve got a comment to make, then you can get me straight away on [EMAIL PROTECTED] This one comes from Steve Cresswell. I was talking about parking charges and the fact that Hull seems to be quite harsh on a Sunday where you have to pay to park in the centre of Hull. Whereas in the centre of London, you dont even have to do that. Steve writes in, I could not agree more over car parking charges. Last weekend, I and my wife and son went over to Leeds for the bank holiday Monday. We parked in the centre of Leeds and it was free to park on Sunday and on bank holidays. It was a pleasure to walk around and not have to think about returning back to the car, because the time had run out. This council and the East Riding council are constantly fleecing motorists! So there you are. Strong words there on the subject of car parking. Of course, as I said, if youve got a view on that, or indeed on anything else, then get in touch with me as soon as possible. Botox Well, can you believe this? Weve been talking about botox for the last five or six years now in some detail. But the fashion expert, Trinny Woodhall, has revealed the secrets of her youthful looks. Trinny well, do you know how old she is? Well, she is actually forty-one. She presents the TV programme, What Not To Wear. Shes admitted that shes been having the treatment to avoid undergoing more serious surgery later on in life. Im happy that Ive had botox. Its about prevention. Id love to never have to have a face lift. Her co-presenter, Susannah, whos forty-four, also admitted that she wouldnt rule out going under the knife. So there you are. Trinny is forty-one and has botox to improve her looks! Smarties Well, for those of you who are fond of the blue Smartie, well it is a minor disaster for you, but for health campaigners it is a major triumph. Nestle Rowntree is to stop producing the blue version of the chocolate beans, because its removing all artificial colours from the castings and there is no natural alternative to the blue chemical used. It will be replaced with a white Smartie at least until a natural blue dye is found. So no more artificial colourings in Smarties, because we dont want them anymore. So the blue Smarties go, but the purples, the greens, the reds and the oranges stay with the addition of a white Smartie! And on the subject of food as well, pot noodles are to be re-launched as a healthy snack, minus artificial chemicals and preservatives and with salt content cut by 33%. The revamped products will also have more vegetables and the fat content of less than 5%. Again, Smarties and pot noodles are both benefiting from this new wave of people wanting to eat healthily. And I see as well that last night on the television in Dead Ringers, Gillian McKeith, whose diet Ive been following for the first half of the year, was lampooned on the television. Of course, one of the most talented actors on Dead Ringers is Jon Culshaw. Jon used to be a DJ in Hull and lived on Anlaby Road. Its a good series Dead Ringers and its on Monday nights. Baftas Yes, the Baftas was on as well. Well done to Jonathan Ross and his show, Friday Night with Jonathan Ross, which won the best entertainment programme. Of course, its well deserved. Hes missed out on so many awards just recently and he beat Noel Edmondss Deal Or No Deal. So well done to Jonathan Ross. The best continuing drama was Eastenders, the best drama serial was Bleak House And I understand that one of the cast of Bleak House is an actress from near Beverley. So Ill have to see if we can get her on the programme. Over 50s For the over 50s, after at least three decades in the work force, their financial burden should be easing a little. However, for many of those over fifty, they are still struggling to make ends meet, according to some new research. One in twenty over fifties is over drawn, according to the survey. The notion that old Britons have generated sufficient income to pay off their mortgages, save a little and still live comfortably is still a long way from the truth. Rising bills, especially gas, electricity and petrol, along with increases in council tax are stretching household budgets to breaking point. So there you are. One in twenty of the over fifties are overdrawn, according to a survey just out. Well, that's it from me for today. Do keep in touch. Drop me a line, if youve got a view on anything, to the usual address. And if you know of someone, whos not signed up, then point them in the direction of either one of the two addresses at the bottom of the page and get them to sign up. Join me tonight on BBC One at 6.30pm. Thanks for reading.
