Hello, it’s Peter here and welcome to Thursday’s Levy Letter. I hope your day
is going well and I hope you’ll be able to join me tonight on BBC1 at 6.30pm.
I’ll have all the day’s news and Lisa will have the forecast.

Tonight on Look North, are the Humber ports the new way in for criminals
smuggling people into Britain? Four people have been picked up today following
a police operation in Hull. I'll be asking tonight if the Humber Ports are seen
as an easy route into the country and what the police and immigration are doing
to stop it.

Plus international hairdresser to the stars - Trevor Sorbie - is in Cleethorpes
today. Normally cutting the hair of Julian Clary and Denise Van Outen, find out
why he's in North East Lincolnshire.

And you might have seen my attempt at acting in Last of the Summer Wine - well,
I'm at it again! This time I’m doing Shakespeare for a stage show in Skegness.
But am I any good? Find out later when Shakespearean actor and director, Barrie
Rutter, will be casting a critical eye over my performance. All that tonight on
BBC1 at 6.30pm.

Thanks for all the emails on a variety of subjects. Keep them coming in as I’d
love to hear from you. If you’ve got an idea or a thought on something, or if
you’ve got a story or a problem that you think we could tackle on Leave it to
Levy, then drop me a line. It’s [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thanks to everyone, who have
been writing in to receive your pumpkin seeds. They’ll be on their way in the
next couple of days. So very best of luck with that!

Airlines

Well, the airlines are under pressure to fit more and more people into
aircrafts. As you know leg space has become less and less. Well, stand up and
fasten your seatbelt is now the latest thing. Passengers feeling like sardines
as airlines cram them into their seats should be warned. Well, the next best
thing, apparently, is standing in a designated standing section. You can lean
against a padded back board where you are held in place with a harness. The
closest thing I can think of is like the fairground rides. Those sort of
things. Well, it’s a bit like that. Presumably the seats would be cheaper, and
there will be some in the larger aircraft. That’s the latest plan, which is
being talked about at the moment.

Petrol

A pound a litre for petrol soon - that’s the headline from some of the papers.
It just goes on and on doesn’t it? Petrol prices could soon cost a pound per
litre, so says the boss at BP, Gordon Brown, whose oil company announced
profits of three million pounds in just three months. He told drivers that the
high pump prices are here to stay. I just thought I would cheer you up for the
bank holiday weekend with that one. The average cost of petrol is now 95.65p
per litre. That works out at £4.35 per gallon. I never thought I’d hear myself
say that. £4.35 a gallon! It’s just extraordinary isn’t it? Anyway, that’s the
latest on the petrol situation.

Boss

Bosses, who spread their arms and legs out, really are the pits in an office,
according to new research. The armpit bearing gesture is revealed as a key way
that arrogant executives exert their superiority. Managers, who show the tip of
their tongue between their lips, are showing the sign of disgust with a worker.
And bosses, whose eyes swivel to the right as they talk, are being economical
with the truth. The tell tale signs are listed in a guide, which aims to help
staff get the most out of pay rise and promotion negotiations. Researchers
claim that when it comes to body language, British workers have much to learn.

Keep A Man Happy

They say that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, but for those
who are not natural Goddesses of the kitchen, then there is an easier route it
seems and it isn’t via the bedroom. What really puts a smile on your partner’s
face is letting him win an argument, according to research. Nearly a third of
men said that it would make them happy if their other halves admitted to being
wrong more often. That’s 41% of men, aged between thirty and forty-five. A
quarter said that hearing the words, “I love you” more often, would make them
smile, whilst just 7% said that more sex would make them happy. So there you
are. The secret to keeping your man happy is don’t argue with him!

Stating The Obvious

New research has shown that drivers, who are caught speeding by road side
cameras, are those most likely to be caught in an accident. If that isn’t
stating the obvious, then I don’t know what is. But speeding drivers do cause
accidents, the latest research states. Well, somebody has been paid a lot of
money to do that research!

And of course, the other thing I mentioned about a year ago, was about coffee
not being too good for you. Well, go ahead and have that second cup of coffee
and a third and a fourth and don’t worry about your health. A study published
yesterday has shown that heavy, long term coffee drinking does not raise the
risk of heart disease in most of us. So there you are. For those of us, who
like our caffeine, drink with a clear conscience!

Well, that’s it from me for today. If you know someone, who’s not getting a

Peter
