Try saving it as a data file when you print. You can then open them in

Not sure if you JMC users have already done this/knew about
this . . . but the new online version now gives you (as a parent) an
overall view of student progress on the main screen of progress
repots. No more having to click on each course to see what your kids'
current grades are -- it's just all right there! (And if I still have
questions I can still go in and look at the gradebook as in the
past.) Sweet upgrade! (And it has an enhanced built in email feature
on the progress reports screen.) FYI if you were looking for anything
to do today . . .

My question for today -- for those who use JMC: do you run the SQL

anything special I need to run that? Currently I just have a computer

Pros/cons of each?

Jackie,

I procrastinated too long on the MySQL. Had the info converted, and
had an issue with MySQL. (Turns out on PPC XServe running 10.4.11
Server, you have to manually turn on MySQL)

I am going to move to it this coming year.

I would recommend an Intel Based Server Class Machine running 10.5.x
or 10.6.x that way you have the latest MySQL and all its bells and
whistles, plus the intel infrastructure running a machine designed to
be run 24/7.

Hope that helps

Jackie,

I procrastinated too long on the MySQL. Had the info converted,
and had an issue with MySQL. (Turns out on PPC XServe running
10.4.11 Server, you have to manually turn on MySQL)

I am going to move to it this coming year.

I would recommend an Intel Based Server Class Machine running
10.5.x or 10.6.x that way you have the latest MySQL and all its
bells and whistles, plus the intel infrastructure running a
machine designed to be run 24/7.

Hope that helps

I, too, am very interested in the SQL version of JMC. We have fits getting
anything done sometimes
because of users locking each other out because of what they're doing in JMC.

Are there finally actually SQL users out there?

Beth,
When connecting the Macs to JMC try to have it through a AFP connection,
rather than a SMB connection. See if that helps. I am pulling from memory,
but I think JMC has a problem with Macs connecting via a SMB share. The Mac
locks the files from anyone else using them. I think if you go through an
AFP share you don't have those problems. Not sure if that will fix your
problem, but JMC has had that issue for years. Maybe this has nothing to do
with your issue. Good luck!

semophore files - that helps for a day. JMC told me to check for user
privileges for the Data and Transcript folders on the server - they
are correct. Now they say that it's a connection problem between Mac
10.5 and Server 2003 and not JMC. Is anyone else having these

And don't tell me to move to a PC, I love my new Mac!

RE: [info-tech] JMC attendance issue

2009-01-29 Thread Richardson,Tony
We're on PCs here and we have had that issue and I am trying to remember
what we did about it. It seems that the secretaries were not doing
something correctly in the office portion of the program which caused
this. I don't know how it works with Apple though.

Subject: [info-tech] JMC attendance issue

We're having an issue with JMC period attendance, where a teacher will
send attendance for a period, but it doesn't come through to the office
properly. The office shows that the teacher DID send attendance for
that period, but the kids they counted absent don't show up as absent.
I've witnessed the problem from both ends, so I know it's not user
error. It happens seemingly randomly, with some teachers' attendance
coming through fine, and doesn't even happen consistently with the same
teachers. JMC acknowledges the problem, but claims it's a bug in Mac OS
X 10.5 Server that they can't address. Of course, Apple claims it's a
JMC software issue.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks for the reply, Tony. If it helps, the office staff are using Windows
XP, so it's the Windows client accessing a database on a Mac Server. They
do not recall having this trouble last year, when the database was on the
Win2K3 server. Oddly, while our high school secretary is screaming bloody
murder about the issue, our middle-school secretary (using the same client
and accessing the same database) claims not to see the issue.

If you remember how you resolved it, please let me know. I'm going to
ratchet up the level of concern with the JMC folks.

Thanks!

You might look at the file transfer protocol used when your Mac
workstation JMC Office
connects to the server.

Try afp rather than the default atp. Having worked with both Mac
workstations to MS server
AND MS workstations to Mac servers, this can be done.

software. We had no issues with Middle or elementary however we are not
yet on a district version so were talking different databases in my
case. However it was just our High School having issues. Seems like we
dealt with it for the first couple of years I've been here and it has
been a case of secretary error. Once we get them doing it right were
fine for the year.

Don't tell JMC you heard from me because I want to call them with the

Thanks again, Tony. Yes, we're using the District version of the JMC Office
software. I will check further into the user error possibility, but she
knows much more about the client software than I do, and I've watched her
carefully. Weird and frustrating. What's making her so mad is that she
checks the first-period attendance carefully, so that if any students are
counted absent, she starts calling right away to make sure they're not in
the ditch somewhere. Then, when she finds out that a student WAS gone and
she didn't know about it, it really ticks her off. Again, I have watched
teachers submit their absences, then gone down to the office, seen that the
secretary's JMC shows that the teacher HAS submitted their attendance, and
yet the kid(s) they counted absent are NOT shown as absent. G.

carefully, so that if any students are counted absent, she starts
calling right away to make sure they're not in the ditch somewhere.
Then, when she finds out that a student WAS gone and she didn't know
about it, it really ticks her off. Again, I have watched teachers
submit their absences, then gone down to the office, seen that the
secretary's JMC shows that the teacher HAS submitted their attendance,
and yet the kid(s) they counted absent are NOT shown as absent. G.

Thanks for the reply, Tony. If it helps, the office staff are using
Windows XP, so it's the Windows client accessing a database on a Mac

database was on the Win2K3 server. Oddly, while our high school

not to see the issue.

Anybody have any suggestions?

with Middle or elementary however we are not yet on a district version so were
talking different
databases in my case. However it was just our High School having issues. Seems
like we dealt with
it for the first couple of years I’ve been here and it has been a case of
secretary error. Once we
get them doing it right were fine for the year.

Don’t tell JMC you heard from me because I want to call them with the issue
myself and get their
magic bullet. This time I’ll write it down.

Vicki,

we use the JMC module. Immunizations and other stuff (that is a

is awesome by the way and she once diagnosed my eye ulcer.

Eye ulcers are very painful things. If you have never had one, I

are still ringing from the concert I attended on Monday night.
Velvet Revolver is for now, the loudest concert I have ever attended.

So how about those Patriots, I truly think that there is no
comparison between them and the 76 Dolphins. I mean come on Larry
Csonka weighed in at what 175 and the Linebackers then were about
215. IT is no comparison to the athleticism of today's NFL athletes.
To go undefeated in the NFL today is a much greater feat than to

We use the health module in JMC. We use it for physicals on the
athletic side.; and our school nurses use it to track the health
fairs they conduct, nurse visits, medical conditions, all doctor/

entered (although they could be) because they use the state's online

We switched our mail server two weeks ago, and when we went to send

asmtp.algona.k12.ia.us; and on our local mail clients we had to mark
use authentication. So I went into the administrator settings in
JMC, and entered the POP 3 server in the SMTP settings, checked the
use authentication box, and entered my e-mail username and pw in the
appropriate boxes (which is what JMC also thought made sense). When I
went to send an e-mail to my random family . . . I got the dreaded

In your case be sure to:

Use your full email address and for the SMTP put this:

The :587 is important. Try that and create a trouble Ticket if you still

I am interested to see how the report cards turn out from within

Also interested in the Standards/Benchmark component of JMC. Also

I will send you a follow-up on my coming when it has been approved.

I've gotten the 43 error before--esp. if running wireless and the connection is not great.  Nobody has ever lost their information, however.  I do remember last year a few had this error.  I would back up their teacher folder, then trash it from the online server app folder.  Open up a new gradebook (which would create a new teacher folder), quit, and replace it with the data from their "old" folder.  It always seemed to work then.I had a few teachers this year who had some problems like that this year, but they had an extra space at the end of the URL when they copied and pasted, or with their user name.  Again, when that was discovered, things have worked OK.  We're running the 6/28 version--I don't see an update for the gradebook app, only the office of 9/5 . . .?  We run Mac with WebStar for the online app FWIW--don't know if those having problems are more of a PC server issues . . .?I do know our online stuff has been running slow.  When I called JMC they said I should try the cgi and not the acgi application on our eMac, because the cgi "fixed" issues with 10.4 and the acgi app.  Didn't get a chance over the weekend to mess with that yet . . .-JackieOn Sep 18, 2006, at 10:23 AM, Frerichs, Chad wrote:Hello all, We are having severe issues with our IP Grade Book from JMC. Re: [info-tech] JMC

2006-08-14 Thread Jackie Fonley
I apologize in advance for the lengthiness: (not really, but it sounds good):-)Background info for what we've implemented:We are implementing the same this year elementary wide.  We have been using/purchasing JMC K-12 for the past two years--our 3rd-5th used it regually as a gradebook--lower levels not as much; however KDG used it as a "database" to record test scores and print off comparison reports.  Last year they just printed off a report card similar to what the MS/HS ones looked like; our 3rd grade and I messed around with the standards and benchmark gradebook for the 2nd and 3rd trimesters and mid-term reporting.  It worked great, and by word of mouth the computer savvy teachers in the other grade levels were wanting to use it.  I sat down with each of the grade levels and we "designed/revamped the old" and drafted what the progress report should look like.  This week I will be setting up the progress report for our K-5 so it is ready to be used next week. That said:The upper grade levels actually keep track of scores, etc.  When you go in and establish your standards/benchmarks, etc., you can tie in scores from the gradebook to a particular standard/benchmark and it will calculate scores for each one based upon performance as recorded in the gradebook.  That was a big sell, as the program would import markings and teachers could "override" if the need arose.  That was a big sell (easier than filling in manually for each standard/benchmark), as was the fact that you could enter a mark and then "fill" for all the other students.  (Ex.:  works well independently--not really a grade per se in the gradebook, but under the standards and benchmarks module I could enter an "+" for the first student, click the fill button and every student had a "+"--again, I could manually go back and change those who needed a different mark.  Being a HS teacher (and actually having a student in KDG), I learned that scoring/grading works a little differently at the lower levels--much more subjective than how I record grades.  The on-line module is nice in the upper grades--but with so many more unit type themes at the lower levels, the K-3 teachers used the web page to share what skills they will be working on for the month -vs- using JMC.  We began doing classroom web pages to share curriculum work, pictures, etc.  It worked pretty well.  (In our opinion it was easier to post once for all sections of each class than to create more work for each teacher to be listing the same thing every week/day, etc.)  I think it is essential with this level to sell the fact this can be done via the computer AT HOME or AT SCHOOL, no more need to carry around papers, wait for the PE teacher to get their grades done and then on to the art teacher, etc (or for the special education teacher to fill in the reading grade).  Each person can get it done on THEIR TIME by the deadline, submit and the office will print off and you pass out (and they don't have to mess with the attendance, as all that gets pulled from the office as well).  Also, I would downplay the "standards and benchmarks"--those terms seem to turn people off right away (myself included)--I emphasized this was what JMC coded these as for us to create the option to incorporate elementaries.  I'll stop my rambling, if anyone would like additional information/assistance let me know and I'll be glad to help anyway I can!  Have a great school year!-JackieJackie FonleyTechnology DirectorHS Social Studies TeacherAlgona Community School District200 N PhillipsAlgona, IA  50511515-295-7207 (Phone)515-295-9273 (Fax)[EMAIL PROTECTED]On Aug 13, 2006, at 11:46 AM, johnsont wrote:This week I need to inform our K-3 staff that parents will be accessing K-12student grades via JMC on our school webpage.  I recall some conversationson the list-serve regarding this topic. Any suggestions on where to start and/or would anyone be willing to help us

Re: [info-tech] jmc php wrapper

2005-08-03 Thread Jerry Smith
wished I would have seen this a week earlier John. I put jmc on an OS X
server - didn't think I'd have time to put it on a Linux server. Been
spending my time the last few days setting up webmail on my qmail server.

I may still visit this before school if I have time

Thanks John

Jerry

 Hello all,

I have been working on a new okoboji schools website and in the process
wished I could integrate jmc into the page. I tried using Seans frames
idea but my page was setup in such a way that I could not use them
without hosing up the entire page. So I quickly created a jmc wrapper
that allows the page to call jmc within a website you can see an example
of this @ http://207.28.99.97/okoboji/html/jmc.php . It may be buggy
but it seemed to work on my Linux box using firefox. You will need to
edit the includes/jmcinfo.php file to make it work with your jmc setup.
you can download the zip file @ http://okoboji.k12.ia.us/jmc.zip I also
have only tested it in 04-05 not 05-06 I will get that working as soon
as I get it installed. If you want to use this just send me an e-mail
and I will send you info about the updated code when it is done

The only other requirement is that you need php installed I have 5.0.1
installed but it should work with 4.0 and greater.

RE: [info-tech] JMC lunch

Humboldt does a student ID cards from Life Touch and then use a bar code
scanner, and they LOVE IT.

If you would like to see it in use, come to Humboldt and I'll show you. It

Subject: [info-tech] JMC lunch

Quick question--

With our JMC lunch module, the lunch people are currently typing in
names as students go through the line. There are questions being
raised on whether charges are 100% accurate . . . .

Originally we had purchased the fingerprint scanners, but if hands are
sweaty, etc. it became somewhat of a hassle. It was quicker to type in
names. Somebody had talked to me about having a keypad in which
students type in their ID's, but I am also thinking it would be easy to
punch in another number. I have student pictures loaded into the
office program, but am I missing a way that can be linked with the
lunch POS program? What are some other options you are using?

Scott,

Having it at Algona would be great. In fact, May 19th would be
fine because we will be getting ready for the new year. The 11th of
March would be open here for a different user's group. We're centrally
located and since there's no school, everything is basically open,
including all of the labs. I don't know how many are running Exchange
Server but that's one topic I could learn a lot from a users group.

Thanks,

2004-03-03 Thread Jerry Smith
OK, those of you who run JMC. Do you like it? Are there any irritating
little problems with it? I know it runs on both macs and pcs, but are
there any problems there? We have been using MacSchool for a long time,
but the administration wants something a little less time-consuming and
both administrators are familiar with JMC but I wanted a
tech-coordinator's eye view of the program.

Oh, a while back someone mentioned the lunch program aspect of JMC (I
think). Is that program part of JMC and of course, do you like it?

I think that's all the questions I have unless someone has a few bags of
money laying around, then I'll ask if I could borrow them for a few
months.

Just a comment from AEA 4. As far as I know, all schools in AEA 4 use JMC.
Some use all parts, some use only parts. The support from Sean at JMC has
been great. They are very willing to make changes to make things work for
schools that have unique situations. Sean just did an in-service for our
schools at AEA 4.
JMC is working very close with the state to make sure all the data that the
state will be requiring will be supported by JMC in the from they want it.
They support project easier better than anyone else. As far as I know, they
are the only one addressing the data to this degree. If you know any of the
tech people from AEA 4, I am sure they would recommend it and would be
willing to be contacted.

Just my 2 cents worth.

RE: [info-tech] JMC

2004-03-03 Thread Michael A. Linde
Jerry, we use JMC here and love it. We have implemented the network version and the
teachers took to it right away. We use if for grades, gradebooks, attendence, Project
Easier and running reports. My secretary took me off her hit list because we use to
give all the teachers a floppy disk and then they did their grades and handed the disk
back to her. Now they simply open the program and hit office to teacher and it gives
them their students and schedules. When they are done they hit teacher to office and
POW, they are at her desk. She really enjoys it and I highly recommend it. The tech
support has been for the most part very good.

RE: [info-tech] JMC

2004-03-03 Thread Jackie Fonley
We run JMC here district wide for the lunch program. The accu scans were wearing down
so over the summer we made the switch--it has been great! Everybody who is part of
the lunch program says it is tons better than what they were using. Besides ease of
use, they also liked the fact they could create family accounts. Our HS and MS this
year all went on-line (attendance, grades parent access). It took some a while to
change, but we have gotten nothing but compliments from the parents about it. As a
tech coordinator, it was easy to set up, and I have always been completely satisfied
with support. They are also good at creating/tweaking things within their program if
you have reqeusts.

As a teacher, I think it's great. I can access the gradebook from home and work on
grades via IP and don't have to mess with disks any longer (or just be tied to the
school network to work on the gradebook). Also, because we have the online module, I
notice a lot of students in the labs during their study halls checking grades and
upcoming assignments, which I think is good. Next year the elementaries are
implementing everything as well.

For what it's worth--
Our JMC srever is a Mac, as is our web server. Our lunch staff uses PC's, as do some
of our teachers, and we have had no problems. I have a Mac at school, but have a PC
at home and have had no problems with my gradebook . . .

Re: [info-tech] JMC - Lunch Program

2004-02-19 Thread Steve Waage
Caroline,

I have been using JMC at CAL in Latimer since the beginning of the year with
no problems. I set it up on an iBook that is using a wireless connection
via a Base Station. If you have questions let me know. Perhaps I can
connect your lunch person with my lunch person.

Good morning! We are looking at new options of lunch programs in Humboldt as
our Head Cook has decided that the repairs on our Accuscan machines are
becoming a little too much.Do any of you use the Lunch Module for JMC?
If so, please send your thoughts and comments to me on how it is working. I
am to meet with our head cook this afternoon to see what she is considering.
I thought this may be of help to her.

 Thanks!
