[qmailtoaster] qmailadmin

2010-03-29 Thread Kyle Quillen
hello all

I have a bit of an issue I am hoping that someone can help me out with.

We just put up a new server and everything is working great with the
exception of when we login into http://domain.com/qmailadmin

Then we try to create a new user fill out the form properly and this is
where the issue happens

When we hit create we get
Email Account testingu...@domain.com (user new user) could not be added
Everything works fine from the command line I have checked all permissions
etc..

I did find this link but not sure if this helps at all.

What other webmail interfaces are people using? I have had squirrelmail
running for several years on a toaster, but am building a new toaster and want
a new interface. I think the final straw was my 65 year old mother telling me
it looked dated and that she didn’t like using it. Roundcube looks promising,
but am wondering just how far along it is, Horde looks like a pain, and then
there are a myriad of others. I wish SM would change the look, because it
works well - something a little more Outlookish would be great, but I don’t
think they ever plan that. Just need some hints, and something that is easy to
install and maintain.

it does not allow me to connect on port 25

[qmailtoaster] smtp relay server

2008-12-09 Thread Kyle Quillen
Hello all,

My server is currently just getting bombed with smtp connections. What I would
like to do is point all customers to another smtp server but the down side is
that alot of customers use port 587 to send mail. But alot still use port 25.
What is the best way to make an outbound smtp server that will still allow my
customers to auth on port 587. I guess I could replicate the vpopmail database
to the new smtp server but then how would I make sure that end users that are
emailing each other that their emails will not get delivered to the smtp server?

Thanks

Does the error tell which line in the script gets the error?
Which version of qtp-clean-spam are you running (what's the latest

Which vertion of qmailtoaster-plus?

Eric,

Thanks for the quick script

Is there a command that we can run to just delete these without pumping them

That script really should be fixed. In the meantime, this should work:
(substitute appropriately)

for maildir in `ls -d /home/vpopmail/domains//*/Maildir`; do
   shopt -s extglob
   for spamfile in `find $maildir/+(cur|new)/* 2>/dev/null`; do
 sudo -u vpopmail -H sa-learn --$learnas $spamfile
 rc=$?
 if [ $? != "0" ]; then
   echo "sa-learn failed, rc=$rc, spamfile=$spamfile"
   exit $rc
 fi
 rm $spamfile
   done
done

Please report back your result.

Rather than modify the script, just create a temp imap folder... 'temp-spam' or
something and move half of the messages there temporarily. Run the script.
After completion move them back and run again. Hopefully it will complete
successfully.

You have too many messages in one folder - you can either break the messages up
into 2 directories and learn them that way, or modify the script to use another
find command to pipe the output to the sa-learn command.

Interesting! This is for SquirrelMail? I had the same problem, but fixed
it a different way:

I edited the SquirrelMail login file: redirect.php under the src directory
Added the following with the + between the two without

 sqGetGlobalVar('login_username', $login_username);
+/* the following 3 lines were added by the buz for NCS */
+if(strpos($login_username, '@') === false) {
+$login_username = $login_username.'@northlakechristian.org';
+}
 sqGetGlobalVar('secretkey', $secretkey);

I found that With SM there were little things that were not working properly
now that may have something to do with the fact that I have installed the nuts
mail theme. However for pop and IMAP and smtp it is working great.

Thanks

Hello all,

Running into a small issue. I have alot of users that being blocked by
spamhaus and when i take spamhaus off of my bls then they can work. My
question is I know that xen is very good at blocking spam but it is also
blocking my users is there a way that I can put a list of ips that will not be
looked at by xen. I have spamdyke installed and have put the ips that I want
to allow in the whitelist_ip but that does not seem to be helping

As always much thanks

I have to 3200 users sitting on a 64 bit box. I have disabled spamdyke and am

emails to users on this box below is a message I get back if I send an email to
one.

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at domain.com.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

<[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:
Sorry, no mailbox here by that name. (#5.1.1)

Any ideas?

I am not seeing anything error out at least as far as i can tell and my mail
queue is growing larger and larger by the minute

Not necessarily. The .qmail file isn't required. If it's absent, I
believe that the domain's .qmail-default file is used.

Hey Erik,

Yea I bumped the memory in both files and then did a reboot of the system but
that did not seem to do the trick. I went back in and looked after fiddling
for a bit and figured out that I forgot a zero once added that to the
submission port run file and restarted it worked great.

Got a small other issue. If I send an email from my gmail account to an
account on this server I get qq hard reject. I moved the domainkeys files and
ln'd the qmail-queue file but still seem to be getting the error. Any Ideas?

Thanks

Hey Kyle.

I seem to remember people having to bump up memory with 64-bit machines.
The error you're getting is from the submission (587) process, but
you're showing us your smtp (25) run file. I see you've bumped up the
memory there. Have you bumped up the memory in your submission run file
as well?

I guess I misstated what I am trying to figure out. I think some users
responded with their usernames and passwords and now those users are being used
to send out spam. I am trying to figure out what users are actually
compromised (who is sending out messages the most). With 1000 plus users it is
not going to be easy to just change all of their passwords. I think this is
being done via Squirrel mail but I cannot be for sure. Any ideas to see what
user is sending out the most mail?

Thanks

Look at the message header, or find the entries in the smtp log that
correspond to the message.

What are you going to do if/when you find out where they came from?
Blacklisting the IP will do little good. You might look into the
SaneSecurity for clamav extension. (See QMT-ISO manual).

FWIW, I think that Sam will be adding DKIM checking to spamdyke in a future
release. This should help greatly to eliminate phishing. Don't hold your
breath, but he might be giving it a high priority for enhancements.

strictly scanning. does anyone know of a good how to to do this?

spamd will still run (as in processes running), but it shouldn't be doing
anything. I would expect the spamd log to end in
 info: prefork: child states: II
and then no more messages as mail is processed.

Are the spamd processes using any cpu? If so, I'd stop qmail then manually
kill any leftover processes, then start up qmail again.

There are currently no mirrors. The site is down due to network
issues. I will contact the isp hosting this server tomorrow if if is
still down.

RE: [qmailtoaster] High Server Load

2008-08-31 Thread Kyle Quillen
Well I just ran it again and it went through but I did a reboot on the server
since I last tried maybe that had something to do with it

I am working on getting a filtering server setup now

Does any one have a guide for setting up a filtering server in front of my
toaster ?

Thanks

That shouldn't be happening with the current kernel.
You're running kernel 2.6.18-92.1.10.el5?

What's the error?

How many active scans are typically running at once?
(spamd log sample would be nice)

CPU is buried, right? What processor/speed?
RAM? Any paging going on?

CPU is dual xeon 2.8ghz with 8 gigs of ram

tell me what you want as far as the logs and i will grep them out for ya

Thanks for the info Erik,

I am working on this now and have already applied the spamassassin stuff.

I did set the concurrency incoming to a lower amount earlier and loads seem to
be coming down a little but spam filtering just takes too many resources

I am working on the spamd servers now

Subject: Re: [qmailtoaster] High Server Load

Hey Kyle,

Last we spoke this issue seems to be caused by too much mail coming in
at once and causing the spamassassin to run very slow.

There are a few things you could do.
1) Edit /var/qmail/supervise/spamd/run. After #!/bin/sh but before
exec, add in these two lines:
LANG=C
export LANG

This should make perl run a hell of a lot faster, as it will skip some
of the internationalization stuff.

2) You can lower the amount of concurrencyincoming so as to keep less
mail from being accepted at once. This should help spamd, and since
other mail servers will retry it should cause no mail to be lost

3) You can get a few extra boxes and run spamassasin's spamd on it,
and reconfigure spamc to use the other destiation hosts. This will
require rebuilding the simscan package with "--enable-spamc-args"
enabled for remote scanning.

As far as making sure spam gets moved into the right folder, that's
not easy to apply across the board. The only real way to do it would
be to write a script that pulls the folder and ensures that the
mailfilter is set in everyones home directory. Then just cron this to
run every so often.

Thanks,
Erik

[qmailtoaster] High Server Load

2008-08-31 Thread Kyle Quillen

Hello all,

I am once again seeing high server loads which are resulting in dups being sent
to end users. I am looking for a little direction here.

What I am wanting to do is setup a scanning server that serves as my primary mx
and then forward the mail to the toaster server. The only questions are:

1. What does the list feel that I should use for the scanner server
2. How can I setup the toaster server to accept all mail tagged as ***Spam***
and put it into the spam folder?

Also how would I just stop scanning and just process mail to help aleviate
server load?

If anyone else has any other suggestions I am all ears?

Much thanks

[qmailtoaster] upgrade to the lastest clamav

2008-06-06 Thread Kyle Quillen
hello all I would like to upgrade to the lastest clamav. What is the
procedure for upgrading just the clamav on centos 5

here is what I have done so far.

Downloaded the src.rpm

rpmbuild --rebuild --with cnt50 clamav.x.x.x.x.src.rpm

Then when I go to install it it tells me that I am missing

error: Failed dependencies:
libclamunrar_iface.so.3 is needed by clamav-toaster-0.93-1.3.18.i386

How do I get that dependancy?

I have tried yum and I have rpmforge installed

I cannot seem to get this dependancy to install?

Any suggestions

thanks much

Re: [qmailtoaster] Duplicate Mail Receives

2008-06-02 Thread Kyle Quillen
r mail server
can get beat up by a domain catch-all accepting loads of spam. (Just
look at your MRTG or ISOQLOG pages, and you'll see what I mean.) So,
you'll want to set catchall to BOUNCE (not delete, because it goes
through the ENTIRE process of accepting an e-mail before finally
realizing it should be deleted). Here's a way to do this to the entire
mail server:

Make a file called .qmail-default in /usr/local/etc that looks like
this:

| /home/vpopmail/bin/vdelivermail '' bounce-no-mailbox

Then run this command:

find /home/vpopmail/domains -name ".qmail-default" -type f -exec /bin/cp
-rp /usr/local/etc/.qmail-default {} \;

I was able to get mail servers running loads in excess of 7-14 down to a
nominal average of .55 (on servers running 700-900 domains or over 2,000
mailboxes), and I've been able to get the queues down from an average of
hundreds of messages to dozens.

Do these things at your own risk. I Rarely check this mailing list so
definitely test, experiment and investigate these settings on a
NON-production server first before trying it out on a mail server you
have any paying customers use. If it works out for you, and I sincerely
hope it does, please pass on the knowledge.

Dan,

I know exactly what you are dealing with.

Can you give us some specs as to what you are running and what are you
load averages and hardware of the server?

Thanks

Re: [qmailtoaster] Load balancing

2008-05-23 Thread Kyle Quillen

My spamdyke.conf is below along with my package versions.

Dups seem to be slowing down but then my load averages are coming down
as well

Spamdyke.conf

check-dnsrbl=zombie.dnsbl.sorbs.net
check-dnsrbl=dul.dnsbl.sorbs.net
check-dnsrbl=bogons.cymru.com
check-dnsrbl=zen.spamhaus.org
check-dnsrbl=bl.spamcop.net
check-dnsrbl=list.dsbl.org
graylist-dir=/var/spamdyke/graylist
graylist-max-secs=2678400
graylist-min-secs=80
greeting-delay-secs=5
idle-timeout-secs=60
ip-blacklist-file=/etc/spamdyke/blacklist_ip
ip-in-rdns-keyword-file=/etc/spamdyke/blacklist_keywords
ip-whitelist-file=/etc/spamdyke/whitelist_ip
local-domains-file=/var/qmail/control/rcpthosts
log-level=2
log-target=0
max-recipients=25
#policy-url=http://my.policy.explanation.url/
rdns-blacklist-file=/etc/spamdyke/blacklist_rdns
rdns-whitelist-file=/etc/spamdyke/whitelist_rdns
recipient-blacklist-file=/etc/spamdyke/blacklist_recipients
reject-empty-rdns
reject-ip-in-cc-rdns
reject-missing-sender-mx
reject-unresolvable-rdns
sender-blacklist-file=/etc/spamdyke/blacklist_senders
tls-certificate-file=/var/qmail/control/servercert.pem

qtp-whatami v0.3
DISTRO=CentOS
OSVER=5
QTARCH=i686
BUILD_DIST=cnt50
BUILD_DIR=/usr/src/redhat
This machine's OS is supported, but this version/arch has not been
tested.

average scan times seem to be 2.1-2.7

My packages are all current except for clamav

Thanks

Spamdyke is installed and has been for about a week It has seemed to
help but my loads are still staying around 3.5-4.5

The largest problem that I have right now is that users are getting
duplicate emails and I can't figure out how to stop it.

Since I implemented the greylisting things seem to be calming a little
bit but the dups are still coming in. I have gotten multiple copies of
emails that were sent yesterday at like 1030 in the am and i did get
them.

Suggestions?

[qmailtoaster] Load balancing

2008-05-23 Thread Kyle Quillen
All,

Does anyone have any resources that I can pull from that will point me
in the direction of setting up load balancing with the toaster? I want
to keep using this mail server but I have to find a way to deal with the
large amount of mail that I am having to process. It is mostly spam so
maybe what I am looking for is a spam scanning system.

Thoughts?

Re: [qmailtoaster] Round cube installation

2008-05-19 Thread Kyle Quillen
James,

I have ran into this problem in the past and forget how to fix it. But
if I remember correctly it was a permissions issue on the database.

However I elected to go with Squirrel Outlook which is just a skin for
squirrel mail. It seems to be working great and I have it packaged so
that you can just drop it into place of the regular squirrel mail with
instructions.

If you are interested let me know off list and I will send you a
download link so that you can get to it.

Thanks

Re: [qmailtoaster] Load Issues

2008-05-15 Thread Kyle Quillen
Well

i know the load is coming from spamassassin.

I installed spamdyke and turned on the block countries and that helped
the load for a few but now I am seeing alot of defunct spamdyke
instances.

Basically I am just getting hammered with spam. if i kill spamassassin
then the load just rises even more.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

I have used the Newmodel script several times and it has worked great
for me.

However, I would highly suggest running a backup just so that you are
sure you can restore the system if something fails.

Just turn on authentication and set the smtp port on the mail client to port
587

The submission port bypasses rbl checks

[qmailtoaster] Queueing Server

2007-12-05 Thread Kyle Quillen
Hey all,

I went over this awhile back and found it in the wiki but I can't seem to
find it now.

What do I need to edit to create a queuing server on another qmt install so
that if my primary goes down the back will queue the mail until the primary
comes back up?

Is it just putting the domain in rcpthosts?

Thanks

Subject: [qmailtoaster] multilog goes defunct

Upon qmail service restarts multilog zombifies about 30-40 seconds into
start.

4155 ?Z 0:00 [multilog]

some background on the environment:

CentOS 4.5 Linux 2.6.9-55.0.12.ELsmp on Dual Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.20GHz
running a single 144 GB SCSI disk. I installed the most recent Qmail
Toaster RPMs, the only deviations behing that I re-compiled vpopmail with
roaming users enabled.

When Multilog goes defunct it randomly will take down qmail-smtpd(also
becomes a zombie) with it.

If more info is needed, ask away. This is an intermittent problem. Right
now we are up and going, despite the defunct multilog.

Any help or insight is appreciated.

Hello all,

I think I am getting somewhere with this now.

I am getting through to yahoo's bulk mail and I think that I see where the
issue is.

If I email from gmail to yahoo I get

ta550.mail.mud.yahoo.com from=gmail.com; domainkeys=pass (ok)

If I email from wifi7.com to yahoo

domainkeys=neutral (no sig)

So it does not look like my emails are being signed

However if I send my email from webmail there is a dkim on them.

Here is a copy of my tcp.smtp file

Any thoughts?

Full blown install of Cent 4.5 and Qmailtoaster, plus some extras.
If you come across any notes where things were missing, please let me
know so I can look into the issue.
Thanks.

I have used the iso a couple of times and the install went fine but it
seemed like there was some things missing.

I have not read any of your notes on the ISO. Just installed it. Is the
ISO a full blown setup or are there some limitations to it?

Thanks

Can I get your input on that? The ISO has had 1170 installs (plus 141
VMWares) and I've only gotten back 16 bug reports for issues, mainly
having to do with odd hardware that needed special grub parameters to
install.
If there's an issue with the installation ISO, please let me know.

Yahoo was accepting my mail but it was going to the bulk folder and now it

Change:
perl -pi -e 's/memory_limit\ =\ .*M/memory_limit\ =\ 48M/' /etc/php.ini
To:
perl -pi -e 's/memory_limit\ =\ \d*M/memory_limit\ =\ 48M/' /etc/php.ini

If you read the notes, I did not test the install-roundcube script
fully. It does install, but I did not fully test it out to make sure
everything with Rouncube itself worked.
It does not replace Squirrelmail. It just offers
http://yourdomain.com/roundcube as an alternative.
If you find that it does work, please report back here for others.

Anyone still using DSpam out there? If so, are you happy with it? I
like the fact that the users can just forward a message to the spam
address and it will learn from it - most of my users call me telling me
the computer is broken and doesn't work when a web page is offline, so
the easier the better.
Feel free to email me off list if you feel that your comments may not be
beneficial to others.
Thanks.

I will continue to dig into this. What baffles me is that I have made no

Anyways thanks for all your help.

I wasn't aware DK was broken in the toaster? I admin several QMT boxes,
but none of them actually use DK to sign, they just validate incoming DK
signed messages and that part works fine. The only qmail box I use to
sign with DK is my qmailrocks-ish machine.

I can try it out on a QMT box late tonight, but won't have time to get
to it before then. Maybe someone has a better answer on this than me?

I don't think that there is anything wrong with the toaster's ability to add
a DomainKey signature to outgoing Emails.

Yes, that syntax is correct. Like I said, that alone solved all of my
issues with Hotmail/MSN.

As for Yahoo, they don't check SPF. They are the originators of DomainKey,
and so you should have that setup properly to have reliable delivery to
them.

For Yahoo, you should have domainkeys setup properly.

For Hotmail, you should setup a null SPF 2 (senderID) record
(http://www.openspf.org/SPF_vs_Sender_ID) like this "spf2.0/pra". This
solved all off my issues with Hotmail/MSN. Before, I had the same
Hotmail issues you describe.

You should also have a normal SPF 1 record.

Google checks both SPF and DK.

[qmailtoaster] 554: error: too many hops

2007-10-08 Thread Kyle Quillen
hello all,

got a small issue with a server i am putting in for a customer and not sure
how to go about getting around this.

Customer has their mail sent to dnsmadeeasy.com and then it relays from that
to a toaster box that is just doing scanning and forwarding to an exchange
box. i got around some blacklist issues as dnsmadeeasy is listed. but now
i keep getting 554: Error: too many hops. I have googled and searched the
list without any real results. I have this setup much the same way that i
do with my other boxes just not forwarding from dnsmadeeasy.

Thoughts?

There are still thousands of messages in the local queue. No mail is

RE: [qmailtoaster] Queued into surrender

2007-10-05 Thread Kyle Quillen

Try this command

qmHandle -M

That will delete all of the email that was not able to be sent.

See if that lessens the queue. The other day I just ended up deleting the
entire queue. And all was well.

Thanks
Q

I changed my queue lifetime to one hour (3600)

qmHandle was useful for seeing what is in the queue. But I still
can't get it to /process/ the queue.

RE: [qmailtoaster] Queued into surrender

2007-10-05 Thread Kyle Quillen
Hello,

I just had this issue the other day.

Have you looked at the tool

qmHandle

If you just type that in it will give you a list of options on how to deal
with the queue.

What do you have your queue lifetime set to?

If you have Qmail toaster plus installed then you have qmHandle.

Thanks
Q

My qmail-toaster seems to have hundreds, if not thousands of messages
undelivered and sitting in the queue. This has reached the point that
local messages, from users who are on the server to other users on
the server, are not being delivered, even hours after they have been
sent. I have followed the instructions on http://
wiki.qmailtoaster.com/index.php/Queuelifetime as well as attempting a
reboot of the server. Nothing seems to clear out the queue, force the
system to deliver or give up, and move on.

Does anyone have any other suggestions. My users are frantic. They
live by their email communication, and with that down, they are
giving me no peace, and I currently have no useful solutions.
