I don't think it's possible to show it directly on the standard "Now Playing" screen. With the third party Custom Clock applet you can design your own Now Playing screen that contains year, but be prepared that the Custom Clock applet could be pretty advanced to setup. -- erland Erland Isaksson 'My homepage' (http://erland.isaksson.info) (Install my plugins through Extension Downloader) (Developer of 'TrackStat, SQLPlayList, DynamicPlayList, Custom Browse, Custom Scan, Custom Skip, Multi Library, Title Switcher and Database Query plugins' (http://wiki.erland.isaksson.info/index.php/Category:SlimServer)) erland's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3124 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77504 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

It is frustrating but you need to understand that there are (at least) 2 seperate problems, both of which only impact certain people based on THEIR specific combination of platform and music files. As such these bugs can be very hard to prevent (and quite hard to fix). They certainly weren't hit during beta AFAIK. However, Andy has fixed the faad memory exception bug that was occasionally causing faad to crash on alac playback. The "Can't open file..." problem is different... I've been trying to help with this but I can never recreate this error on XP SP3 with 7.6. I've used example files sent by people with the problem and they all work fine on my system. At one point it looked like the alac files were possibly being misinterpreted as AAC (or MPEG-4 as SBS refers to them) and hence faad was not being invoked - the native AAC decoder was being invoked instead. This won't work, hence the advice to check your file types to ensure that MPEG-4 is set to stream as FLAC via faad (same as "Apple Lossless". If you turn on player.source logging you can see exactly what SBS is trying to do when you play a track... This is NOT the default. However, this is only a workaraound (if I'm correct about the alac files being wrongly identified as AAC). There may also be a problem with the tags generated via iTunes, but I can't comment on that...I think Copperstate has been looking at that. -- Phil Leigh You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal... Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Any manual control over screen dimming?
You can also switch from automatic brightness control to manual brightness. Then you set a single brightness level (it also dims very slightly after 10 seconds). Not real convenient if you have to dig through the menus to change it, and there's no brightness button on the remote any more. -- JJZolx Jim JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77240 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

It's for connecting to Squeezebox Servers that aren't on the local network. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Squeezebox and Musepack
The short answer is that we currently support SV7 (and I think earlier) versions. The long answer is that for whatever reason the MPC team wanted to make their format even harder to adopt by completely changing everything for SV8. In doing so they also rewrote the decoder (now mpcdec instead of mppdec) and the new decoder does not have the right command-line options for us to use it as a drop-in upgrade. I have talked to them about this but they weren't really interested in adding the missing features. I think there are probably literally only a handful of people who care about MPC so it's not really worth our time to try to patch their decoder. So if you have new material you want to encode in a lossy format and are considering SV8 I would request that you think again and use another format. [SlimDevices: Touch] Loss of clock - standalone, no internet
My SB Touch arrived at the office yesterday. It fired up nicely with a wired connection to my router and downloaded the current firmware. I inserted an 8GB SDHC card with music content. Worked very nicely. Then I removed the ethernet connection and ran it standalone with an analog connection to my office mini-system. I liked the nice digital clock in "off" mode. It was automatically set to the right time! I pulled the SD card to see what new cache files had been created. Then put the SD card back. I unplugged the Touch and brought it to my apartment, where I have no internet service (apart from possibly sponging from a neighbor's wireless network). Surprisingly, it took a little fooling around to get the Touch going. But there's no more digital clock. I tried selecting the various clock "screen-savers" for the "stopped" or "off" cases. No joy. Sometime a "sample" clock would come up, but not showing the correct time or date. Very curious. [SlimDevices: Touch] Misc. Touch questions
Forgive me if this is obvious, but is there any way to add an item to the Favorites list on the Touch? SBS on the host computer has various options, like the heart button for individual tracks and the "New Favorite" button in the Favorites list, but I don't see anything for the Touch internal server. I'd really like to add a URL for the KEXP live stream. (Aside: does anybody know if it's possible to play the KEXP uncompressed stream on the Touch?) Second: After playing back some tracks from the music library on an external USB hard drive, I've noticed that the Touch seems to use "gapless playback" so that one track starts right after another with no dead air. I don't recall this happening with earlier Squeezebox models. Is there a way to defeat this feature? [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch tagging issues
Here are a couple of issues that have arisen in two days of playing with the Touch. I have my Touch connected to an external hard drive via USB. I'm also running SBS on my Mac with OS X Snow Leopard. I have identical libraries on the Mac and the USB drive on the Touch. Most of the files are in Apple Lossless (ALAC) format. The first issue has to do with accessing files via multiple entries in the artist list. The list shows names from both the Artist and Album Artist tag. For example, tracks on a classical album might have "JS Bach" in the Artist field and "Yo-Yo Ma" in the Album Artist field. The album shows up in the artist list twice, once for Bach and once for Yo-Yo. If I try to select a track from this album on the external USB drive from the Yo-Yo Ma entry on the artist list, I get a spinning icon and no music. However, if I select the same item from the Bach entry, the track plays. That's on the external USB drive. If I switch libraries so that the Touch accesses the files on my Mac over wi-fi, the problem goes away. I can access the track through Bach or Yo-Yo. The second issue is also related to tagging. The internal Touch server seems to throw a bunch of tags into the Artist list. Not just Album Artist--which I see on my Mac too--but the WRT tag on ALAC files too. I don't see those on the Mac. For instance, I've got a bunch of Velvet Underground albums. I ripped them using iTunes and they've all got "Lou Reed" in the WRT tag. When I run SBS on my Mac and click Lou Reed, I just see his solo albums. However, on the Touch with the external USB drive, clicking Lou Reed shows his solo records and all the albums with the Velvets. If I select one of these Velvet tracks, I get the spinning icon and no music as described above. However, I can access the music via the artist entry for Velvet Underground. It really would be nice if the two versions of the server were more consistent. Someone on the tagging forum said that there's no way to turn off display of Album Artist tags in Apple Lossless files. If that's the case, you should at least be able to use them to play music. -- MadCityGeoff MadCityGeoff's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17429 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77519 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

I don't think there's any easy way to avoid them, but you could probably figure something out if you know how it works. On startup Squeezebox Server goes out to update.slimdevices.com and downloads a firmware version file for connected players. If the version is newer than that installed on the player then it downloads it. I think you can install the official 7.5.0 release if you don't want the firmware upgrades. I don't think there is any way to avoid them if you like to run the latest 7.5.1 nightly release. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touch Remote Control Codes
paltomare;536725 Wrote: > Still struggling with the remote codes, can't get them to work on my URC > MX-950. Anyone with similar problems/solutions? I just tried a backward approach -- applying the ideas in 'this thread about Radio IR' (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69634) to update the /usr/share/jive/jive/irMap_default.lua file on my Touch so that it would be hard-coded to accept JVC codes instead of Slim (e.g. map arrow_down to the JVC code 0xf78b instead of the Slim code 0x7689b04f). I didn't have any luck, but I have a pre-release hardware build, I think at least two revisions older than the retail units. So you might have better luck. The basic idea is to SSH into Touch, cd to /usr/share/jive/jive and edit the irMap_default.lua file, changing the hex values. Once you do that, you'll need to reboot Touch for the changes to take effect (simply restarting the 'jive' user interface app does not suffice). If you're comfortable with Linux and vi, I'd suggest you try it. Save a copy of irMap_default.lua in case you have to revert, and give it a shot. I'm pretty skeptical -- I think it may be the case that the IR circuits on Touch have either been programmed to ignore JVC codes (which would make sense -- the Touch UI should be more responsive if the IR circuit doesn't bother it with every silly IR signal that comes its way), or perhaps are even physically incapable of recognizing both Squeezebox and JVC codes -- see 'this comment from Felix' (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=518771&postcount=5) which isn't entirely clear about whether the IR limitation discussed in *that* thread is an intrinsic hardware issue or design choice. -- peterw http://www.tux.org/~peterw/ Free plugins: 'AllQuiet' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/AllQuiet.html) 'Auto Dim/AutoDisplay' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/AutoDisplay.html) 'BlankSaver' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/BlankSaver.html) 'ContextMenu' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/ContextMenu.html) 'DenonSerial' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/DenonSerial.html) 'FuzzyTime' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/FuzzyTime.html) 'KidsPlay' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/KidsPlay.html) 'KitchenTimer' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/KitchenTimer.html) 'PlayLog' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/PlayLog.html) 'PowerCenter/BottleRocket' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/PowerCenter.html) 'SaverSwitcher' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SaverSwitcher.html) 'SettingsManager' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SettingsManager.html) 'SleepFade' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SleepFade.html) 'StatusFirst' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/StatusFirst.html) 'SyncOptions' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SyncOptions.html) 'VolumeLock' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/VolumeLock.html) peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77401 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
[SlimDevices: Touch] Now Playing Screen Update Issues
I hooked up my Touch and all things seemed fine. I played a few tracks on my Rhapsody account and tried to switch tracks. Track switched fine, but the Now Playing screen did not. It remained the same on the previous artist and song. I factory reset the unit with the little button above the power supply and started again. I tested an internet radio station, went back to Rhapsody and started playing tracks again. The screen stays on the internet radio station. I am able to navigate around the unit, but the Now Playing screen will not update. Just before I typed this, I discovered the web-based remote control on MySqueezebox. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Network test on Touch does not go above 2000kbps
triode, network test can be read either way - test the network between this device and server or test entire network - therefore some people, especially without all the history, will make an interpretation which doesn't match reality. those of us that are natural english speakers are divided by a common language, heaven help those who are using it as a second language. I think 'connection test' may be less likely to be misinterpreted. the tool is still useful but unfortunately not definitive when trouble-shooting as I expected - identifying low CPU power could be equally useful. [SlimDevices: Touch] Aarrg! SB Touch + SBS 7.5 = waste of money...
Ok I am frustrated. I have an SB2 and 2 days ago purchased a SB Touch which mandates SBS 7.5. I have installed SBS 7.5, 7.5.1 + 7.6 and NONE of them will FIX the 'Cannot open D:\Itunes' issue. I have a large Itunes library completely made up of ALAC files and I cannot listen to any of them. This is such a huge bug for a product that supposedly had been delayed to make sure everthing worked out of the box. I have read the threads about this issue and have tried different SBS builds, different FAAD.EXEs (even one that a none-Logitech person modified to try and fix this issue) and none of them work. SBS has always been the Achilles Heel of this product line and when it works it works well but it has been plagued with bugs that somehow make it thru 'QA'. I was hoping this would be plug and play but I am ready to throw the Touch thru a window. Sorry for the rant. I have it feeding flacs from a USB drive into my primaluna valve amp directly and it sounds wonderful. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] But... It sounds soooo good
Agreed. The analog output from the Touch definitely sounds better (in my opinion, of course) than the SB3 it is replacing. Overall I'm very impressed with the Touch. It looks and feels excellent, and the sound quality is better than expected. I though the original SB3 was very good, but the Touch is just better all-around. I also just recently picked up an outboard DAC (my first ever) and will give it a try with the Touch. The DAC is an AMB Gamma 2. Like the Touch, the Gamma 2 seems to be very well built and looks nice as well. -Matt -- eedork eedork's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=37535 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77478 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] SSH into my Touch, any nice things to explore?
It is an "easy" way to change network settings. for example set static ip on the Touch Btw for some reason the prompt is "outside" the files system "cd /" fix that, if you want to learn some basic linux skills you can use it for that. get a good linux book (linux bible is ok) or google some shell commands like ls ( dir in dos) cd is change directory try ls -la for a more comprehensive list Your network settings is in the file "interfaces" /etc/network/interfaces try this # cat /etc/network/interfaces cat is a command that "prints" a file to the screen so now you can read it There is a text editor on-board the Touch "vi" it is horrible but very light just # vi file_name example: # vi /etc/network/interfaces !! google some good instructions on vi before doing this, frustration guarantee included. Want to edit your wireless settings fast: /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf learn to use scp or get winscp so you can copy files I have as an experiment changed to boot sound on my controller and the boot screen. There is an example in the wiki about changing highlight color, you now that black bar under the menu text's You can use scp to fetch the "messages" file if you want to read the logs if you have a bug to track. # reboot reboots it Or learn lua and do some awesome applets as Erland does -- Mnyb Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J and assorted amps SiriuS, Classe'Primare and Dynadio speakers (including a pair of Contour 4 ) Bedroom/Office: Boom Kitchen: SB3 + powered Fostex PM0.4 Miscellaneous use: Radio (with battery) I use a Controller various ir-remotes and a Eee-PC with squeezeplay to control this Mnyb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4143 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=77491 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

[SlimDevices: Touch] Squeezebox Touch & Icon Amp
My Squeezebox Touch came in this week and I paired it with an Icon Amp at 48W. They are a perfect little pair. The Icon is the same width as the Touch and acts as a small platform. Sounds great! Regarding the touch, it's very very nice. The UI is intuitive and responsive. Sound is great. Sync's perfectly with my three other Squeezebox Booms. I hope that Logitech makes a version of this that is just a battery powered remote. That would be a very nice replacement for the duet. Maybe they could put a small amp in the duet receiver? It would be especially nice if the Touch Remote could replace the Harmony remotes.
