Hello Thomas, Welcome to the 313 list. Did you move to Detroit or do you mean you've been converted to Detroit techno via Shawn Rudiman? If you in Pittsburgh, you might want to check out your local heroes, The Pittsburg Track Authority. I don't think they have a website, but here is a link where you can listen to their stuff. Not quite Detroit, but definitely Detroit techno influenced. http://www.discogs.com/Pittsburgh-Track-Authority-Untitled-Monongahela-Rainforest/master/404068 One member of the group has a blog too. Lots of cool and interesting DJ mixes and interviews. http://infinitestatemachine.com Regards, Steven Tang Emphasis Recordings On Thu, Jan 24, 2013 at 12:38 AM, Info wrote: > Hello Thomas, > > Welcome to the 313 list. Hm, I don't think I said it exactly the way I meant it. As email is won't to do. I wasn't getting down on Shake in any way. It just aggravates me that some spamtard hijacked his e-mail account, just on principle. I feel his participation in 313 is valuable and important. Re: (313) 313
Shake is aware of this problem. The problem -- I suspect -- is that his e-mail machine is infected with a virus of some sort. Tony is a brilliant musician, not a computer technician. It would be great if someone who actually lives in the Detroit area and is acquainted with him would volunteer to check his machine and get things fixed up. The reason I haven't yet blocked his address is that it would mean he doesn't see 313 list e-mail, and I know he's interested in it. The occasional spam message from his address is a price I'm willing to pay. I'll e-mail sebastien and tell him to find a non-work e-mail address to use for the list. If he doesn't respond I'll just unsub him. Cut him some slack, though -- I bet this auto-responder stuff happens outside his control.

Hey all Been a long time just reading 313 emails but haven't sent any out. I wish I could say I was going around to every record store in town this weekend but I'm not. Actually, saving money for an upcoming trip to San Francisco. An afternoon at Amoeba will be my delayed "record store day". I tend to stay away from record stores on their "official" day - just too many people in stores that never shop in record stores. Kind of a pain in the butt imo. By the way, has anyone let Shake know that his email account has been hijacked? It IS almost DEMF time again. The best time of the year. What else is shaking? Spring is in the air. People are out and about along with the start of human mating season. Had a very nice day at the Chicago Record Collector's show this past weekend. Found beautiful copies of MK's Burning on Area 10, the first release on Balance (CVO Party Time), and Waiting on my Angel on Persona. All for $2 each too! Plus a nice stack of old disco and house for $1-2 dollars each that I need to go through this weekend. Hmm, what else is shaking? Went to the Planet E 20th in Detroit a few weeks back. Highlights were a surprise set from Shake playing with Urban Tribe and free records. What else? Waiting for the Rick Wilhite full length to drop. RE: (313) 313'ers in Tokyo? Techno recommendations?
I live in Nagoya, but been to Tokyo enough to know the place half decent. Clubs; Eleven is run by the same people as Yellow and in the same space - sadly been to neither as Yellow closed before I got here. Good clubs are Unit, Air not been to Module, Warehouse 702 but heard they're good. Then there is Womb, a huge club, sometimes great sometimes not so great, depends entirely on the night really and who is DJing. Record stores; definitely check out Shibuya, really good 'Banana Records' there, not too expensive as they deal in new & used. synth shops; not sure whether this is relevant at all, but everytime I'm in Tokyo I make sure to call into www.echigoyamusic.com, this and a place called FiveG are crazy. Lined wall to wall with synths, fx etc... friendly staff, free to test the stuff out. Some (most) of the stuff is pricey but you can find some bargains now and again. He doesn't drive so does all his shopping on foot and everyone chats to him - can't miss his height and theatrical walk. Even raids the local second hand vinyl shop! The fires are in the state of Victoria and affecting Melbourne so I don't think they'll be offended in Syd. There are a few club benefits down here with monies raised going to the Red Cross so you can pop out with a conscience. He should come down to Melbourne one weekend, the club scene is bigger and more diverse. Traditionally Melbourne is far more 313 friendly. Spacey Space, very 313 friendly Melbourne DJ, is playing a bushfire benefit at Tramp tonight down here (though keep in mind the city is thick with bushfire smoke if you're asthmatic). If he is in Syd he might do well to catch the Future Classic party with Todd Terje this weekend - vg DJ. RE: (313) juan and kraftwerk (was Re: (313) 313 - T)
Juan made techno using synth's (ms10), not drum machines with preset sounds amd easy to programme sequencer. He actually says somewhere that when he heard Kraftwerk he realised that they had the same sounding percussion sounds that he was producing using his synths. Sure you could say that Roland created a mechanical footprint for dance music, but that but Juan actually synthesized the very sounds that would become 'techno'. Sur at the same time as other revolutionaries on planet earth, but not in the same way. -Original Message- From: Frank Glazer [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, June 02, 2008 10:54 AM To: Kowalsky Cc: [313] Subject: Re: (313) juan and kraftwerk (was Re: (313) 313 - T) it's not an if. it's a statement of fact. juan atkins was making techno before he heard kraftwerk. he said it, he put it in writing, it's a fact. RE: (313) juan and kraftwerk (was Re: (313) 313 - T)
I might be mistaken, but I try not to lie and I do quite remember reading a different interview [although I'm sorry I can't remember where or when] in which Juan was more direct about how KW might have influenced some of his early productions. It was pretty unequivocal, as far as I remember, which is why I'm [a little!] puzzled that this issue has reared it's interesting head again. All might well be revealed soon I guess ... -Original Message- From: Wildtek Concept / DJ Dimitri Pike [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, June 02, 2008 7:44 PM To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: (313) juan and kraftwerk (was Re: (313) 313 - T) But Juan Atkins said numerous times that he was listenning to the 'Electrifying Mojo' radio show right ? Way before starting recording 'Clear' or 'Alleys Of Your Mind'... Not only Juan, Derrick, Kevin, Jeff, Alan, all a generation listenned to him. Mojo played a lot of Kraftwerk music ... It's said in all documents that can be found around the web. Maybe he heard them without being aware who was doing this music and has been influenced without being really sure of what it was ? I've a lot of problems to trust that Juan Atkins was not influenced by Kraftwerk knowing from various interviews that his wish to record music came a lot from listenning to Mojo. And when you ask peoples in Detroit what kind of music Mojo was playing... First name to emerge is definitely Kraftwerk. Just my point... Most techno artists / musicians would regard "Computer World" as more influential than "Autobahn". The progression from Autobahn to CW was a great one and made it closer to dance music which was the incubation phase for techno. I think of Autobahn being closer to Neu / Can with synthesizers instead of guitars. Let's not forget that Kool Herc, Whodini, DAF, B-52s, Tom Tom Club, and New Order (amongst many others) were also being played before or the same time as CW. +odd -- On Jun 2, 2008, at 2:47 PM, "kent williams" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Oh please let's not argue this over again. But Juan Atkins said numerous times that he was listenning to the 'Electrifying Mojo' radio show right ? To play devil's advocate, that doesn't prove that if Kraftwerk had never existed, Detroit techno would not have existed. I am not interested in the debate a great deal, as the fantasy scenario "What if xyz...?" debates don't seem productive IMO. I find it moot. They did, and the belleville trio heard them, and the rest is history. But, just saying. Re: (313) 313 Shirts in Detroit / loft party
Just a shout out to Todd for doing this project and doing it right. Don't let him be stuck with surplus inventory -- get a shirt if you don't have one before it becomes a coveted collector's item :) fh - >alright, I hope this is the last time I email the whole list.. :o > >I will have 313 shirts at the Hi-Tek Soul booth for sale today [after >3 PM] + tomorrow >Cost on site is $25... unless you've pre-paid or emailed me [those >are reserved and will be at the booth for pickup] > >I've texted everyone else that sent me their contact info. otherwise, >email me at [EMAIL PROTECTED] with SHIRT PICKUP in the subject.. > >http://www.scale.gs/client/313/printedshirts/ > >The rest of you who've ordered will be having their shirts shipped on >Tuesday... > >and don't forget the loft party tonight! > >http://www.scale.gs/client/metroplex/juanatkinspartyWEB.jpg > >Tonight, Sunday, 25 May 2008 > >Metroplex presents >Juan Atkins' Loft Party > >featuring performances by > >Juan Atkins / DJ >Metroplex >http://www.myspace.com/68657561 > >Terrence Dixon / LIVE + DJ >Metroplex, Reduction, YORE, Background >http://www.myspace.com/terrencedixon > >Todd Sines as .xtrak / LIVE + DJ >YORE, 7th City, Planet E, Peacefrog, Frankie >http://www.myspace.com/toddsines > >Deepchord / LIVE >Deepchord Records >http://www.myspace.com/deepchord > >Titonton vs. Archetyp / tag team DJ >Residual, 21/22, Black Nation, Theory, Planet E >http://www.myspace.com/titonton >http://www.myspace.com/archtyp > >2605 John R. / Adelaide St. at Woodward >2 blocks from Coamerica Park > >12 AM - UNTIL? >$10 > > >thanks.. later, > > >+odd >

Yep this exchange is now officially dumb in my book. I'm surprised to come here this morning and see so many posts about something which started as a joke. Does anyone actually disagree on the main things? Really? At least no one's threatened infanticide or something, yet -Original Message- From: Arturo Lopez [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, May 22, 2008 12:25 AM To: 313 Mailing List Subject: Re: (313) 313 - T 1. It's a stupid argument, I was just giving a little shout-out to ze germans, wasn't trying to kick over a bee hive. 2. Since I originated this argument (on this latest occasion), my 2 cents: It's easy to come up with a lot of techno heavyweights who were influenced by Kraftwerk, we can all agree on that. I think you'll find it extremely hard to come up with any Detroit folks that were influences ON early Kraftwerk, or for that matter, any -other- electronic artists that were influences ON Kraftwerk. They got the ball rolling, the wellspring if you will. Case Closed. Next! -Arturo

Re: (313) 313 - T
this is perhaps the most irrelevant post made so far in this ultimately asinine argument.
