Guys,

I need to jump in here. There is nothing going on with the list... hasn't
missed a beat in about 6 months. AWS has been rock-solid for us.

However, if you have any delivery problems (AWS not able to talk to your
mail server) you WILL get put on the AWS suppression list, and we have to
submit to have you removed from that list, which happens very quickly.

I know that one of the suggested fixes for any AFMUG mail related concerns,
has been to unsubscribe, then resubscribe, that is only a fix for a very
small number of cases. You are welcome to try that as it doesn't hurt
anything. Again though, if your problems related to non-delivery of mail to
your server for any reason, that problem is only fixed through submitting to
AWS to get off the suppression list.

2015-11-30 Thread Forrest Christian (List Account)
I was waiting to update the listing until we started shipping the Revision
i syncinjectors and completely flushed out the Rev H injectors. The 450i
doesn't seem to like a long cable on a Rev H injector but we've fixed this
in revision i.

If you're planning on using a gigabit injector with a 450i with anything
but a short cable, I'd recommend buying a new one and putting a note in
the comments on the order for them to include only revision I injectors on
your order.

Re: [AFMUG] Testing 123

2015-11-30 Thread Paul McCall
It’s hard to know every situation. My gmail account for list testing doesn’t
do anything odd on the few times that I have used it.

Josh, I would have to trace every step being made to know what, when and how
this or that happened. Obviously, Mailman (not related to AWS) thought you
were still subscribed if you received an email. And, the unsubscribe thing was
probably tied to when you, in your words… unsubscribed. Can I explain the
timing on WHEN you received the email…No.

Usually though, when we have tracked these situations fully for people, it’s
pretty predictable or definable on what happened when. Enough so, that when
someone asks about a problem, the first thing we check is the AWS suppression
list. It doesn’t happen, but goes in waves if you will.

Just like AFMUG email in general goes through mini-seasons when some firewall,
spam systems suddenly detect it as spam, and someone has to complain that those
emails are not spam, and then they run fine for a long while. For example, we
use Postlayer and every few months or so, “some” of the AFMUG email will go to
Quarantine and we have to gripe.

Some of this is just part of the deal.
Best practices would be to email us when you first have a problem before you
start unsubscribing and re-subscribing, because that is NOT the primary fix,
and potentially compromises the troubleshooting workflow. Its like a customer
unplugging all the wires to their router before they call you for support.

I know many of you have multiple offices, probably one at the shop and one
at home. How do you link them all together? Do you VPN in at a machine or
Router level? Make the home network an extension of the office network via
a tunnel? Or just do firewall rules to allow the home machines in? Do you
Isolate the rest of your home machines from your 'work' machine?

The only things I really need to keep access to are Mapped/shared drives,
and Network Printers. I.E. Home accessing a share on a server at the shop,
or Server at the Shop printing to a printer at home.

Depends on noise floor. The nano beam m2-13 is only 13DBI. If you want to sep
up to a bigger dish that would get you more gain. As much as folks don't like
the air grids in 2.4 GHZ it's hard to beat the AG-HP-2G20.

When are we looking at 13.4.1 official? It would be nice to bring up all
of the FSK to 13.4.1 official and 450 to 14.1.1 at the same time.

On 11/30/2015 11:49 AM, Aaron Schneider wrote:

older SW register. Enabling this mode limits the radio HW Queue depths
to be compatible with the older SW.

The SMs need to be upgraded to be able to detect these new depths and
adapt automatically during registration. For 430, 13.4.1 was the
first load which supports this, and for 450, 13.3 was the first load
which supports this (it originally came with 5ms Frame support, which
was/is a 450/450i only feature).

You can find this option on the 450i AP's Radio Configuration page:

This is only there for you to use for migration of SW releases it is
not meant to be on indefinitely once all of your SMs are on acceptable
releases (which is now 14.1.1 for 450i/450 sectors, including 450/430
SMs), as having it on will impact the performance capability of the
450i AP.

Re: [AFMUG] Work boots

2015-11-30 Thread Josh Reynolds
Haven't had those.

Last year I bought a pair of Carolina Logger Boots. Leather, composite
toe, composite shank, oil resistant tread, 8", thinsulated, no raised
heel, waterproof, shock resistant to some insane level. I bought them
for climbing towers in the middle of winter when I was in Alaska. Let
me tell you, mission accomplished. I love these boots.

They're holding up very well. I expect about ten years out of them
with the way they look now... Maybe longer.

Carolina has hundreds of different feature combinations, in a few
colors. They can be spendy and hard to find who has the exact model,
but their corporate hq was very helpful to me when I was trying to
find the right model.

Re: [AFMUG] Canopy 14.1.1 Release and PTP

2015-11-30 Thread Aaron Schneider
Yes, just be aware that for 430 to talk to 450i AP in its native mode, the
430's will need to be the latest 13.4.1 Open Beta. Otherwise, you'll have to
enable the "legacy mode" on the 450i AP to let the older SW register. Enabling
this mode limits the radio HW Queue depths to be compatible with the older SW.

The SMs need to be upgraded to be able to detect these new depths and adapt
automatically during registration. For 430, 13.4.1 was the first load which
supports this, and for 450, 13.3 was the first load which supports this (it
originally came with 5ms Frame support, which was/is a 450/450i only feature).

You can find this option on the 450i AP's Radio Configuration page:

[cid:image002.jpg@01D12B65.35FCDB70]

This is only there for you to use for migration of SW releases - it is not
meant to be on indefinitely once all of your SMs are on acceptable releases
(which is now 14.1.1 for 450i/450 sectors, including 450/430 SMs), as having it
on will impact the performance capability of the 450i AP.

-Aaron

We have a number of towers to convert from 4 450's with 90 degree sectors to 6
AP's with 60 degree sectors. Most of these are already at 80-90% 450 SM's.
I was asking if I can go directly to 450i AP's without having to finish

[AFMUG] OT: Remote offices and Shared Devices

2015-11-30 Thread Nate Burke
I know many of you have multiple offices, probably one at the shop and
one at home. How do you link them all together? Do you VPN in at a
machine or Router level? Make the home network an extension of the
office network via a tunnel? Or just do firewall rules to allow the
home machines in? Do you Isolate the rest of your home machines from
your 'work' machine?

The only things I really need to keep access to are Mapped/shared
drives, and Network Printers. I.E. Home accessing a share on a server
at the shop, or Server at the Shop printing to a printer at home.

I don't use edge for anything, except for a single local government
website that refuses to work on anything else (Really? What is this,

Anywho, win10 has been great for me. Just as stable (if not more so)
than win7 was, and a hell of a lot better than 8 and 8.1. Performance
and battery life have been good.

How about $11.

We have used these to power radios off batteries for installers. They are

Re: [AFMUG] Ceragon IP20 1Gbps License Question

2015-11-30 Thread Hardy, Tim
80 MHz will get you 700 Mbps each way with one carrier, double that with 2 or
XPIC which the dual core C model would allow. I think you mentioned frequency
congestion and that certainly would make XPIC or a 2nd pair that much more
difficult to get.

I seem to recall it was 11 GHz, right? If so, and you have the wideband

Re: [AFMUG] Ceragon IP20 1Gbps License Question

2015-11-30 Thread Daniel White
Depends if you have the wideband version of the radio or not. If your radio
can do the 80MHz wide channels, you want them.

You can get Gigabit a few different ways using the IP-20C... just depends on
the configuration of gear you have. Best to ask the people that sold you
the gear... or you can send me the BOM offlist and I'll help get you
straight Sterling.

Crossover stocks a lot of the IP-20C product for our Tier 1 customers.

Maybe 120MHz if I'm lucky.

Maybe I just install and license for 500Mbps operation at 30MHz x 2 channels

1Gbps/ 40MHz x2 x2 channels 2+0 DP?

I seem to recall it was 11 GHz, right? If so, and you have the wideband
license you should try for 80 MHz bandwidth and depending on your capacity
needs, you can go XPIC or other options.

Yes, ask for dual pol 60MHz. Or you can buy the 'splitter adapter' instead of
the OMT and use two 60MHz channels on same polarity. This is for 6GHz right?

pptp tunnels are the easiest. I have replaced a majority of the random
EOIP tunnels for managing customer external routers with pptp, then it also
does not matter if you are on a DHCP network, such as Comcast, etc...

You can still do your static routing/firewalling over the tunnel.

I was waiting to update the listing until we started shipping the Revision i
syncinjectors and completely flushed out the Rev H injectors. The 450i doesn't
seem to like a long cable on a Rev H injector but we've fixed this in revision
i.

If you're planning on using a gigabit injector with a 450i with anything but a
short cable, I'd recommend buying a new one and putting a note in the comments

This is a single antenna configuration, so I think by 2+0 DP they mean XPIC?

That would mean maybe 60MHz each polarity would get me 1Gbps?
Is that a license in 11GHz, 60MHz wide channels? Or does that mean two 30MHz
channels each way, then the same on the opposite polarity?

80 MHz will get you 700 Mbps each way with one carrier, double that with 2 or
XPIC which the dual core C model would allow. I think you mentioned frequency
congestion and that certainly would make XPIC or a 2nd pair that much more
difficult to get.

Oh...just because they've done it, doesn't mean it can't be done better.

My complaint with the indoor unit was that there was no way to mount it
to anything. They needed some eyes for screws, or keyholes on the back,
or something along those lines. The outdoor version wasn't particularly
rugged for an outdoor device, and still nothing to mount it to. You
either dangled it out of the bottom of the device, or zip tie it to the
mounting pipe.

Yes, ask for dual pol 60MHz. Or you can buy the 'splitter adapter' instead of
the OMT and use two 60MHz channels on same polarity. This is for 6GHz right?

out of my price range. I think I'm going to try this one
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00O46B7TY It seems to have gotten
mostly good reviews. I know that it's not the highest resolution, but
these are mostly slides from the 50s and 60's they're kinda grainy as it
is.

If these are Kodachrome (50’s) or Kodachrome II (60’s), and have not degraded
with time, they should not be grainy, in fact that was probably the pinnacle of
slide film. Films got faster but generally that meant more grain. ASA 25
Kodachrome = good stuff. Unfortunately needed a commercial lab to process it,
and I believe the last one shut down quite a few years ago.

When I think back
On all the crap I learned in high school
It’s a wonder
I can think at all
And though my lack of education
Hasn’t hurt me none
I can read the writing on the wall

Kodachrome
They give us those nice bright colors
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world’s
A sunny day, oh yeah
I got a Nikon camera
I love to a photograph
So mama, don’t take my Kodachrome away

If you took all the girls I knew
When I was single
And brought them all together
For one night
I know they’d never match
My sweet imagination
Everything looks worse
In black and white

Kodachrome
They give us those nice bright colors
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world’s
A sunny day, oh yeah
I got a Nikon camera
I love to a photograph

Question about this Ceragon IP20 I have.

If I want the full 1Gbps out of it, according to these charts, I should use two
30MHz channels per polarity, right?
That would be for the 2+0 DP (2 x 500Mbps) Ceragon configuration.

And when I go to license it, I ask the coordinator to allocate a 60MHz dual
polarity channel license?

Or how exactly does this work?

Thanks for your help peoples!
