[arr] Aamir Khan releases music of his forthcoming production

2008-05-21 Thread Vithur
Aamir Khan releases music of his forthcoming productionFrom ANI

Mumbai, May 21: Noted
Bollywoodhttp://www.dailyindia.com/news/bollywood.phpactor Aamir
Khan http://www.dailyindia.com/news/aamir-khan.php known for his penchant
for making meaningful cinema, released the music of his forthcoming
production 'Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na' here last evening.

Bollywood's legendary actor Shammi Kapoor launched the audio of the film.

Contrary to Bollywood extravaganza and showbiz, the music was released in a
very subtle manner at Kapoor's residence. Aamir considers Kapoor as his
lucky mascot and has been seeking his blessings right from his debut film.

Music director A R Rahman has directed the music of the latest flick.

The music is really fabulous. Lyrics written by Abbas (scriptwriter and
director Abbas Tyarwala) are very different and unusual. I feel that such
music has been chosen by Rahman after a long time, said Aamir.

The film's promos have already created excitement among the public and
people are now eagerly looking forward to the release of the movie.

Aamir's latest flick is a director debut of scriptwriter Abbas Tyrewal and
is also a debut venture for Khan's nephew Imran Khan. Bollywood actress
Genelia D'souza plays the female lead.

Though not much information of the storyline of the movie has been revealed,
the promos are in line with Aamir's constant endeavour for a refreshing
theme and his penchant for making meaningful movies.

After successful box-office hits, 'Lagaan' and 'Taare Zameen Par', this will
complete the hat trick of Aamir's productions.

The film is expected to be released in the first week of July.

[arr] ADA - Traces

2008-05-21 Thread Kamal Aakarsh Vishnubhotla
Hi!

  Here are few quick observayions:

  1. Mujhe Milo Wahaan - The take off is similar (or probably the same) to
Climax BGM of Kannthil Muthamittal (is it a coincidence that the very same BGMs
were being shared on this forum barely 2 days ago)

  2. Ishq Ada Hai (Female Version): The guitar chords of the female version of
this song... they reminded me of piano chords of an ilaiyaraja song Pottakkal
pottaalum from film Chathrian. I do not wish to rake up any controversy here
because it is not a lift but the usage style is similar and even ilaiyaraja was
inspired by a western classical piece in that song. So probably ARR too was
inspired (inspired as in the real sense of its actual dictionary meaning..and
not the current meaning as advocated by other composers today) from the same
western classical piece. and yes, the song starts off with Mayamalavagowla
raaga i think..but then it changes to different raga. More analysis later.

  3. I felt the male of version of Ishq Ada hai would have been more better if
Rahman himself sang it..because the slants in that song suit his voice..or
rather it is his territory.

Re: [arr] I am impressed with Jaane Tu

2008-05-21 Thread Jahanzeb Farooq
I am very very much impressed. The album is truly mindblowing. It is
also different from usual ARR albums in that the songs are instantly
catchy, you don't have to wait them to grow on you. I am completlely
in love with the Jaane Tu Mera Kya Hai (Aditi), the best song on the
album. It completely knocked me out in the first listening. Sounds an
intant hit. There could NOT have been a better choice than Runa Rizvi.
Her vicals gave the song a haunting feel. My second favorites are
Kabhi Kabhi Aditi Zindagi and Kahin To Hogi Ho. Very fresh and
youthful, awesome work by the boss. Rashid's voice is so youthful, it
will suit Imran Khan so well. My least favorite is Nazrein Milana
Nazrein Churaana (which is the second best song according to Indiafm).

Here is my ranking:
1 Jaane Tu Mera Kya Hai (Aditi)
2 Kabhi Kabhi Aditi Zindagi
3 Kahin To Hogi Ho
4 Pappu Can't Dance
5 Jaane Tu Mera Kya Hai (Jai)
6 Tu Bole Main Boloon
7 Nazrein Milana Nazrein Churaana

Also with such a superb music now I have so many hopes with the movie.
Seems like a fresh, youthful love story..

WHY Again you guys compare songs when just the instrument used is
similar.. if that is the case then i think all the ENGLISH songs is
copy of each other and same as they all use drums and guitar.. !

just 2-3 second of music is similar or just some beat is similar
doesnt make the song copied ARR will never do that...

if you really want to see how other composers do plagiarisms.. see the
link below.. how pritam shamelessly lift the whole song..

[arr] A.R.Rahman adds more sweetness to the 'Sugar Cube'

2008-05-21 Thread PRATAP
A.R.Rahman adds more sweetness to the 'Sugar Cube' IndiaGlitz
[Wednesday, May 21, 2008]

There is no need to dig up the history and try to explain how the songs
composed by A.R.Rahman in a lot of movies have went on to become youth anthems
and how the expectations about a film increase and also add pages to its
publicity when the news break out loose that the Mozart of Asia is composing
the music for the songs in it.
The unit of the new film 'Sakkarakatti' can be assured of peppy, spicy,
groovy and addictive music to do service to the ears of the audience as
Rahman's compositions have done several times before being a big support
factor to the success of the movie.
Getting A.R.Rahman to use his skills in a film is a very difficult task given
his busy schedule and if the music maestro selects a movie then definitely he
must have found something fascinating in the story of the film.
So the Job of building an aura around the potential of 'Sakkarakatti' a movie
targeted at the youth has already been half done.
And when Rahman goes for something, he makes it the best.
A Singer Veena Bharatwaj was flown specially from London to record a song in
this new film.
Other singers are Naresh Iyer, now a Rahman regular, Madhu sree, and Benny
among others.
The audio tracks of a perfect blend of classical and hip hop music boasts of
a song titled I Miss U Da which has been given sounds and tones that has
never been heard before in Indian Films.
The director of the film himself admitted to have got hooked up with a
youthful and inspiring ambiance in A.R.Rahman's studio when the songs were
recorded.

The director of this youth oriented and colourful movie Prabhu who also
happens to be the son of the famous producer Kalaipuli.S.Dhanu has taken a
bold step in directing a movie just with the film making Knowledge that he has
gained from his father and not by being an assistant to other directors.
The boldness to take the plunge just on their self belief shown by certain
young directors in Kollywood has certainly triggered off a trend among the
younger lot of aspiring directors to follow their dreams with oozing self
confidence.
Director Prabhu follows the marks left back by the success story of another
filmmaker who also happens to have Prabhu in his name.
The first time lucky director of 'Chennai 600028', Venkat Prabhu is already
wrapping up his second project after hitting the Jack pot in his first attempt
itself, that too without any prior experience to back up.
A.R.R's music comes as bonus in the true sense for any soon to be released
movie.
Same in the case of this film too, but still it has a heavy luggage of making
careers of two.
Other than a new director the film also marks the entry of Santhanu, son of
the acclaimed actor/director Bhagyaraj into the film world as the leading man.
The audio C.D of the film comprising of 6 tracks will hit the music stores on
June.
The countdown has started as all the scenes except the video of a song have
been canned.
Wait and watch to see how the new Prabhu has tried to hit the bull's eye with
his directorial debut.

[image: /photo.cms?msid=3058410] It was a nostalgic moment for Aamir
Khan as he came to meet Shammi Kapoor to get his blessings for the music of
his upcoming film Jaane Tu Ya Janne Na . The film stars his nephew Imran
Khan and Genelia D'souza in the lead roles.

Said Aamir, Whenever I have started something new, I have always taken the
blessings of Shammi Kapoor. Even when my first film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak was
about to release, I took my first step with the blessings of Shammi Kapoor.
I also started my first directorial venture Taare Zameen Par with his
blessings. Now it is Imran's first film. So we have come here. Shammi is my
lucky mascot.

Aamir feels that A.R. Rehman has given a very youthful music to the film.
The music by A.R. Rehman is very fresh and youthful. Even the lyrics by
Abbas Tyrewala are very different.

About the film Aamir said, Abbas had shown me the script and I loved it. It
was his decision to cast Imran. My biggest contribution to the film was in
bringing Mansoor Khan. Also, this is my first film as a producer in which I
am not acting. I am trying my best to promote the film and Imran as he is
very close to me.

Aamir is also launching his nephew, Imran Khan with the film. I was very
impressed by Imran in the film. He has a lot to learn. He showed a lot of
improvement even while shooting the film. He has a lot of potential. We have
to wait and see how well he does for himself. He is good. But it is more
important what the audience feels about him. I am a very strict person. So
to rate him, out of ten I will give him six.

He further said, As a producer, I look for exactly the same things which I
see as an actor in a film. I should fall in love with the story. I should
fully believe in the director and the script. Then I fully support the
director as a producer and give him the right platform to make a good film.
I am very particular on what my name goes on. So I make high quality and
entertaining films.

The film is scheduled to release on July 4th.

[arr] Ada---simply superb!

2008-05-21 Thread ~ [EMAIL PROTECTED] ~
Just cnt get enuff of this album...10 mindblowin songs...n each a gem!
Ishq Ada is reminiscent of the 60's era with a lot of Latin/Spanish influence.
But the beauty of the song lies in composing...its a complicated tune with 3
diff.ragas... starts off with Pilu (reminds me of numerous Naushad compositions
like Pyar kiya to darna kya...), goin on to Madhuwanti n finally to Todi. Hats
off 2 ARR...the soul is Indian while the embellishments Western! Special credit
to newcomer Parul Mishra...very diff.tonal quality, perfect for the song!

Also luvd Hawa sun hawa..m sure those who admire ARR's work will agree with
this. Its vintage stuff...the flute interludes remind me of Anjali Anjali n
many more from that era.Sonu n Alka's rendering with beautiful chords is just
the recipe of a perfect melody.

Hai dard is a suprise...is a conventional sad song...the prelude is not wut u
usually hear in a sad song...it has a lot of attitude. The arrangement needs
special mention. Again its a very complicated tune with lots of Middle-eastern
musical infulence.Udit hs dun a gud job.

Meherbaan is easy on the ears, starts of with typical ARR piano goes on to a
nice pop-balladish song.In recent times, lot of ARR songs like Ek mohabbat,
Pray for me brother r like this. Its instantly likeable...n gr8 use of Guitars.

Wut I luvd abt Mujhe milo wahan is its resemblance to the climax bgm of
Kannathil.I hd adord that piece when i hd seen the film...hd tears in my eyes.
Years later, a brilliant tune based the same bgm. The entire song hs a Madan
Mohan influence. ARR is quite inspired by the composer (me 2!). If u hear
Madanji's compositions like Woh bhooli dastaan,Aap ki nazron ne samjha, Aaj
socha to aansoo bhar aaye,Rasm-e-ulfat, etc,u'll agree. It has a strong Ghazal
feel to it. Only thing, I found Jayachandran's voice a bit shaky. Sonu or
Hariharan wud hv been an ideal choice. Alka hs dun justice to the song, the
strings section is amazing!

The other songs r also gud,Gumsum is a complete commercial number with a
qawwali feel, Gulfisha a party/pub song, n Tu mera hai is ARR in the 90's.

I think Ada is a gift to us from ARR.dunno how the movie will fare...but ARR
made it sure the music reach its destination!

[arr] My detailed thoughts on Ada

2008-05-21 Thread Chord
Unbelievableamazing...astounding.mindblowingawesome.AR
Rsomehow manages to keep blowing us away with his magical
compositions and I just can't believe what a feast this is for us
fans! Is there any musical hat that this man CANNOT wear? How the
heck can one person compose a Jodha Akbar, Ada, and Jaane Tu and much
much more all in a single lifetime? Not going to give a song by song
review of Ada, but want to share my overwhelming thoughts and
feelings.

ADA
This is by far the most passionate, stylish, sleek, sonically
contemporary, and lushest arrangement wise album we have heard from
ARR in a while. The album has such a beautiful flow from song to
song..truly a remarkable journey of sound and intricate sonic
sculptures ecapsulated by haunting melodies and the best of both
worlds of vintage and modern ARR. There is a spontaneity in this
album that I have been missing from ARR recently and which harkens
back to his earlier days...quite nostalgic indeed. In terms of
musical concepts, this is one of his most brilliant works. There are
incredible interludes everywhere with unpredictable twists and turns
within each composition that surprises the listener and takes you
deeper and deeper into musical bliss. Lots of classical dynamics with
contrasting moods as dissonance is juxtaposed with resoultion and
open-ness from interlude to antara and back (eg., second interlude of
Dar Hai with duduk and dark, musical dissonance which resolves
brilliantly into an open and exhilirating second antara...also
heard in female Ishq Ada). Man, check out the range of sound on this
album not only in terms of acoustic instrumentation, but as a friend
rightly pointed out, innovative synth sounds and soundscapes
There are beautiful raaga based melodies combined with multicultural
and ethnic influences as Swaps rightly explained with Latin, Spanish,
Mediterranean, and Eastern European musical styles all thrown in.
The singing is fantastic and wide ranging and I am so impressed wiht
Parul Mishra's rendition of Ishq Adashe sounds like a veteran
singerso mature, precise, with great tone and feeling! The
lyrics nicely complement the music at each turn! Meherbaan is sung
so beautifully by Rahman and this style of ballad suits him so well
and I just love the electric guitar solo in the instrumental
version!

Surely a difficult album to review concisely. It's a classy, classy
album that music lovers will enjoy but I am not too sure about its
commercial prospects since there are unusual and unconventional
musical styles, sounds, structures, etc that a common person may find
a bit too foreign sounding or out of his schematic realm to make
ssnse of. Nevertheless, another highlight of Rahman's career is
bestowed before us and I cannot be more proud to be a Rahman fan than
I am today. HAIL TO THE MAESTRO!

Listen to Ada and Jaane Tu and listen to the crystal clear sound

returning to your sonic roots with JA and now Ada, and Jaane Tu!
Although many of us enjoy RDB, compare the sonic production and
arrangements with Jaane Tu and you will hear a clear difference.
Jaane Tu is without excess noise and arrangement sloppiness
(relatively speaking). There is clear separation between instruments
and the sound is just crystal in Jaane Tu, JA, and Ada. Jaane Tu
sounds so crisp and refreshing!

[arr] My detailed thoughts on Jaane Tu

2008-05-21 Thread Chord
When I first finished listening to Jaane Tu, the feeling I had was
similar to a feeling of going outdoors on a cool autumn day here in
the US and feeling the fresh, cool breeze on my face and tasting the
crsip air, or the enjoyment and invigorating feeling of a fresh,
cool, sweet drink on a hot summer day.

What a feeling after listening to Jaane Tu! It helps me to look at
our world with more innocence and wonder and reminds me of my college
days. Music wise, it's so wonderful to hear ARR compose such a youth
oriented soundtrack that is so invigorating, sweet, fresh, nad
contemporary. RDB, Boys, and Yuva were also youth oriented
soundtracks, but the difference this time was with the crystal clear
sound production in Jaane Tu, more emphasis on melody and less dancy
hip hop, and an overwhelming sweetness to the listening experience.
Each song has a special place and is very unique with again, great
flow in the album. I still don't favor Pappu and remix Pappu, but I
can see why many who like such songs would enjoy these two and Rahman
has done a good job musically with the rhythms and evoking a sense of
humor with these two tracks. I really hope more people can start
talking about the title song sung by Rahman with its jazzy, swing
rhythms because I think it's one of the most briliiant, light
hearted, uplifting, and soothing tracks from ARR recently. As a
friend pointed out, Don't worry be happy comes to mind with this
one! Now who else can think of composing such a track in such a
jazzy mode Conceptually, it's so out of the box and
mindblowingly original for a bollywood song His voice range in
this song is so well suited and has done a great job in fitting the
lyrics with the off beat jazz rhythms and with a great title sung
melody that really sticks to you. It's so stylish and fun and
sweeet! What a beauty of a melody in Kahin To and both Jaane Tu Mera
and Meri offer so much in the way of sentiments and breath-taking
music that is well contrasted. I love the duduk again in
Sukhwinder's song and the string arrangements are just fabulous!
Kabhi Kabhi Aditi is one of the most addictive and catchy songs ever
by Rahman and I just love use of flute in this song with soaring
string arrangements in the antara with high octaves HATS OFF TO
ARR! I BOW TO THEE!!!

Aditi, and Kahin To, he has really impressed the heck out of me! I
love his smooth voice and range! Tonally, his voice is so clear and
appealing. His voice reminds me somewhat of KK's and Abhijeet's
voice, but even better.

[arr] Tu Bole Main Boloon is a Masterpiece

2008-05-21 Thread Chord
I'm just blown away by this song for its ease, spontaneity, conceptual
brilliance, and feel goodness. To even think of composing such a
song in swing/jazz mode showcase Rahman's tremendous innovativeness
and originality and out of the box creative thinking. Notice how ARR
has sung it so effortlessly in that octave range. His smooth voice is
so suited for this type of musicalmost reminds me of Mel
Tourmet...another great singer of the past who used to sing such type
of jazzy songs. The swing rhythms are so catchy. I just love the
trumpet improvisation that keeps weaving in and out throughout the
song, similarly how the accordian weaves in and out in Ay Hairathe and
Ishq Ada. It's a Rahman specialty to have one single acoustic
instrument weave into songs like that and take center stage. And the
soft chords in the background with piano touches and female voice
bursts just adds icing on the cake.

I hope more of us and more people in general will appreciate how truly
special this song is.

[arr] My take on JTYJN

2008-05-21 Thread balajirajagopal
Since practically everyone is posting a review of JTYJN, I thought of
posting one myself...just kidding...not a review but just my view on
the album

CD Packaging - Looks neat and quite youthful. All the fonts were of
the correct size and the colour combo was also quite adequate

Songs - Honestly, I liked all the songs and as someone wrote in one
of the reviews, this is one ARR album that doesnt require multiple
listens to get hooked on. I practically fell in luv with the album
the minute the guitar strings started for kabhi kabhi aditi. In terms
of my order of preference, the best 3 in the album wud be

No 1 - kabhi kabhi aditi - Need one say more? This is an absolute gem
of a song :)

No 2 - Kahin to...- Copy or no copy, this is a brilliant song wit
amazingly catchy loops chorus

No 3 - Pappu cant dance - This is an absolute wonder coz this was one
song that I just didnt like on the promos. Infact, I was telling
Swapnil just this evening that this was a lousy song. But two listens
on my CD Player and I cudnt help but hit the rewind button repeatedly!

All in all - a great album - a must buy!

Cheers!
Balaji

compositions and I just can't believe what a feast this is for us

10) Gulfisha

Jaane Tu
1) Kabhi Kabhi Aditi
2) Hum Bole Tu Boloon
3) Jaane Tu Mera (Aditi)
4) Kahin To
5) Jaane Tu Meri (Sukhwinder)
6) Nazrein
7) Pappu

I don't want to add too much to the this song sounds like..
discussion which I feel is in excess lately, but I have to point out
that the rhythm and guitar accents of Kabhi Aditi is quite similar to
the song Upside Down you Turn Me by Janet Jackson which released in
1980 or 1981. I am extremely certain that ARR didn't lift from this
song. Someone here mentioned that the soundtrack has a Western 1980's
feel to it which I agree somewhat.

AR Rahman. (TOI Photo)
AR Rahman is back with a brand new score. The musical genius, who has
composed some fantastic tunes for Sakkarakatti, will release the
audio in June.

The film has six songs which is a mix of classical and hip-hop
numbers. The movie marks the debut of Bhagyaraj's son Santhanu and has
been produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu. His son Prabhu is directing the
movie.

The filmmakers have finished shooting the talkie portion of the movie
and all that is left is one song. Rahman has come up with a catchy
musical score. The song Taxi Taxi is sure to be a superhit.

Santhanu's father previously launched his sister Sharanya amid much
fanfare in the film Paarijatham, but the actress has not delivered a
hit after that. Let's hope that things turn out to be different for
Santhanu at least.

I am really upbeat about JTYJN after listening to it and I think it

too optimistic about Ada although the music is excellent and
pathbreaking as usual, when the film stars actors like rahul roy and
ayesha jhulka in the lead you know no one would be interested in the
project, i dont know why boss signed this project, remember what
happened with bose-the forgotten hero, the music did not take off
despite being one the best efforts of rahman for the same reason

Original actors were Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachan.

Who is MLTR? Perhaps you may want to replace the word copy in your
title.

few lines of kahin to hogi song sound similar to im not an actor

I'm not an actor im not a star...

the similarity is stark especially at the end - 4:17 - when they sing
chorus at higher scale ..and over all, the song has got a strong mltr-
 ish feel to it.

btw.. looks like 2008 is arr's all the way. already we have three
beautiful albums in hindi and one in tamil. he will sweep all the
awards no doubt... but i think even all the nominations will be his
songs this time... effectively competing against his own songs.

start commenting our rahman..pls somebody tell rahman
not to use such things.. otherwise wonderuful song is
not getting the credit for this reason.

i have not yet heard these songs. even if they are the
same RAHMANJI would have never copied the tunes or
lifted the music. it should be a mere co-incidence. i
know this term of co-incidence is not possible in
music but when rahmanji is involved it has to be
anything else other than copying.

take care

WHY Again you guys compare songs when just the
instrument used is
similar.. if that is the case then i think all the
ENGLISH songs is
copy of each other and same as they all use drums and
guitar.. !

just 2-3 second of music is similar or just some beat
is similar
doesnt make the song copied ARR will never do
that...

if you really want to see how other composers do
plagiarisms. . see the
link below.. how pritam shamelessly lift the whole
song..

I dnt wanna argue with you...but its not simply the instrument...if
you look closely at the english song the chorus is similar...NOT THE
SAME...SIMILAR!
