Task assignment

2008-08-25 Thread sivarama velicheti
Hi Group,

I have a simple question. How can I avoid a task being assigned to
an individual. In incident and change mgmt we have rules were we can define
not to assign an incident or change to a group but not to any individual in
a group. I am looking for something similar in tasks but no matter what I am
not able to turn off the assignments in the task management. It is always
assigned to an individual based on a round robin or capacity criteria even
though I do not select the criteria in the task template. Please let me know
if there is a simple solution for this.

Thanks

There is a hidden config form that has a Round Robin/Capacity assignment
config. I can't remember off the top of my head the name of the form, but it
is stated in the one of the Task pdfs.

Hi Isabel,

Many thanks for detailed explanation.
You have understood me exactly, with the exclusion of one point.
Instead of - you not getting any data returned in your table. I have data
collection in a table.
And I am using a Vendor Form for the table object.
The main problem is that I can not filter collection which I getting from
the Vendor Form.

I have followed your suggestion.
I have opened hidden qualification field and have tried single and double
quotes manually (not via work flow). I mean type in the qualification and
refresh the table manually.
I have error message with single quotes.
I have no error message with double quotes.

It didn't help.

 - you not getting any data returned in your table.

 Some things to check

 matches
the database name in the vendor form and has SINGLE quotes around it,
 e.g.
 'Item No' LIKE %some_phrase%
 - are you setting the qualification using workflow? If so you need to
remember to double up the double quotes. To start with, you could make
 the
field read/write and just type in the qualification and refresh the
 table
field until you're sure it works. Once you have something like this
 that
you know is definitely working: 'Item No' LIKE %some_phrase% THEN you
 can
set it using workflow, where %some_phrase% is the value of a field
 (lets
call it zTmpChar) So you would set the external field to: 'Item No'
LIKE %+$sTmpChar$+% in order to get the same result.

 Hope that helps

Re: filtering of collection in table object

2008-08-25 Thread Misi Mladoniczky
Hi,

You are not supposed to filter ther returned collection. The Vendor Form
should be able to limit the collection returned as dictated by your
qualification.

The Vendor Form relies of ARDBC custom code hooked into the plugin server.
To program an ARDBC-solution, you can choose for yourself how much, if
any, support for qualification criteria you want to build into it.

If your ARDBC-solution does not support the qualification criteria you
send it, your only option may be to pull the content of the Vendor Form
into a temporary regular form, and then have your table field connect to
your temp form instead.

SLA Questions - Answers

Sharon,

I split this off of the Task Question since it seems to be a separate
topic. Hope this info helps:

Attached: This means that the incident meets the goal criteria you have
configured in the SLM application Service Target. The Service Target
will attach as soon as the criteria is met (Start criteria).

In Process: Means that the Service Target is current in process on the
incident

Met: This means that the Service Target was met on that incident

Missed Goal: This means that the Service Target was missed on the
incident

Warning: This means that the Service Target has met the warning time
period, and is in danger of missing the Service Target goal.

Detached: This means that the Service Target no longer applies to the
incident and has been detached. This usually occurs because the
priority of the incident has changed.

The Service Target Due Date/Time will show on the SLM tab of the
incident, and is based on the Goal time defined in the SLM application
Service Target criteria.

Task is slightly different as it comes under:

Application Administration Console/Custom Configuration/Task management
System/Assignment/Assignment Configuration

There are two further changes as to how the other application config forms
work

1. appadmin does not have access only Demo (strangely, you may want to
check in case it is just my example system)
2. Assignment process is a required field, and therefore you must set
the record status to Inactive.

For info the form is TMS:AssignmentConfiguration.

Re: Installing Knowledge Management

2008-08-25 Thread Pierson, Shawn
We ran into a similar problem. I don't recall the precise resolution, but it
involved Tomcat settings. IIS also should not have the virtual directory
because that's something Tomcat should handle and may cause problems for you.

To see if it's installed correctly in Tomcat, go to
http://remedyserver:8080/manager/html and log in with whatever credentials you
have (I think it's tomcat for both username and password by default, but if not
you can edit the password file.) You should see RKM listed there as an
application. If it's not, find the .war file (I think it's rkm.war and in the
directory you installed RKM to) and install it via that web interface. If it
is showing up, try http://remedyserver:8080/rkm and see if it comes up . If it
does, then the problem is with IIS. Remove the virtual directory and make sure
Jakarta is set up correctly to redirect you from IIS to Tomcat via

Subject: Installing Knowledge Management

**
Hi all - I am in the process of building 2 brand new 7.x servers, a dev QA
environments.

On Dev I have installed: Window 2003, IIS. Java 1.6.0_07, Active Perl 5.10.0 b
1003, ARS 7.1 p 4 (server, admin, user, approval). Then I installed KM 7.2
(which installed Tomcat 5.5 HummingBird 5.4).

But when I go to http:\\server\rkmI get 404 (page cannot be found).

I looked on the list but they didn't cover this and I looked at the install doc
and everything they say should be done has been done.

I have added to my IIS a virtual directory called rkm and it points to the
correct folder. Is this what I should have done? I still have to build my QA
environment and want to do it correctly.

Thanks!!!

Re: Anticipated timeframe for an AR Server Upgrade?

2008-08-25 Thread Grooms, Frederick W
Not knowing anything about your hardware/OS/memory/DB Size ... Yes that
seems excessive. If I remember our 5.1.2 to 6.3 was about 2 hours and
our 6.3 to 7.1 this weekend was 2.5 hours (These were both pure custom
ARS with no Remedy apps). This is on Sun hardware w/Oracle and about a
75G db.

Listers,
We're upgrading our AR Server tonight from 5.1.2 to 7.0. A
direct upgrade didn't appear to be working so I went with 5.1.2 to 6.3.
I kicked it off about 6 hours ago and it still appears to be steadily
chugging along at the Upgrading the AR System Database screen. I did
this previously on a development environment, but kicked it off in the
afternoon and came in the next morning so I'm not sure on the actual
time this normally takes. I'm sure hardware and database size play a
role, but can anyone give me a rough estimate for how long this normally
takes? I'd like to sleep before my next birthday J

Thanks much,

Re: filtering of collection in table object

2008-08-25 Thread Misi Mladoniczky
Hi,

XLink must have been built using ARDBC. ARDBC is the only way to create a
Vendor Form.

I would ask NTuision about the limitations of the product.

Does it support qualifications, and to what extent?

Best Regards - Misi, RRR AB, http://rrr.se

 Hi,

 I am not using ARDBC-solution.
I am using XLink tool of NTuision to retreive data via web service.

 Misi Mladoniczky wrote:

 Hi,

You are not supposed to filter ther returned collection. The Vendor Form
should be able to limit the collection returned as dictated by your
 qualification.

The Vendor Form relies of ARDBC custom code hooked into the plugin
 server.

 Hi Isabel,

 Many thanks for detailed explanation.
You have understood me exactly, with the exclusion of one point.
Instead of - you not getting any data returned in your table. I have
 data
 collection in a table.
And I am using a Vendor Form for the table object.
The main problem is that I can not filter collection which I getting
 from
 the Vendor Form.

 I have followed your suggestion.
I have opened hidden qualification field and have tried single and
 double
quotes manually (not via work flow). I mean type in the qualification
 and
 refresh the table manually.
I have error message with single quotes.
I have no error message with double quotes.

 It didn't help.

 Vahagn

 Ross, Isabel (Access LLP) wrote:

 Hello Vahagn

I'm not sure if I've entirely understood what the problem is, but what
 I

 think you're saying is:

 - you have a table with an EXTERNAL qualification
 - in the field referred to in the external qualification you have
 something
 like [Item No LIKE %some_phrase%]
 - you are not getting any error messages
 - you not getting any data returned in your table.

 Some things to check
 - Item No should not be in double-quotes. Check that it exactly
 matches
the database name in the vendor form and has SINGLE quotes around it,
 e.g.
 'Item No' LIKE %some_phrase%
 - are you setting the qualification using workflow? If so you need to
remember to double up the double quotes. To start with, you could
 make
 the
field read/write and just type in the qualification and refresh the
 table
field until you're sure it works. Once you have something like this
 that
you know is definitely working: 'Item No' LIKE %some_phrase% THEN
 you
 can
set it using workflow, where %some_phrase% is the value of a field
 (lets
call it zTmpChar) So you would set the external field to: 'Item No'
LIKE %+$sTmpChar$+% in order to get the same result.

 Hope that helps
 Isabel

Jakarta is set up correctly to redirect you from IIS to Tomcat via
http://remedyserver/rkm . You may want to open a ticket with BMC Support
because when I tried to install RKM, I ran into multiple issues, and BMC had to

Re: Is AIE in 7.1

2008-08-25 Thread Easter, David
To answer the original question, AIE is not included with AR System 7.1.00.
Those customers who either purchase CMDB or receive it as part of a larger
solution package will also receive AIE for use with the CMDB. The AIE provided
with these solution packages is intended for use in populating the CMDB (i.e.
it is not licensed for use directly to AR System). Those customers wishing to
integrate an external data source directly with AR System using AIE would need
to purchase AIE separately.

This packaging model will remain moving forward - i.e. there are currently no
plans to include AIE with AR System 7.5.00 either.

Re: Is AIE in 7.1

2008-08-25 Thread Brock, Anne
If you are wondering about getting AIE for no charge - AIE is bundled
with the ITSM apps that use the CMDB (Service Desk, Change Mgmt, Asset
Mgmt) or with the CMDB enterprise version. It is included free for the
purposes of piping data into the CMDB. For other uses, or for non-ITSM
apps, you would need to purchase it. So it is not included with AR
System 7.1.

Of course, you can always check with your sales rep for clarification.

If the Work Info entry is not locked, then you can copy anything.

If it is locked, then you can click [View] instead of [Report] and then
highlight and copy any of the data in the work info entry.

Hope that helps,

In C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Jakarta Isapi Redirector\conf

add /rkm/*=wlb

also you really need to add go to /rkm/ if you don't have the ending slash you
can't get to rkm.

Jakarta is set up correctly to redirect you from IIS to Tomcat via
http://remedyserver/rkm . You may want to open a ticket with BMC Support
because when I tried to install RKM, I ran into multiple issues, and BMC had to
send me a custom .war file and help with a few other things. In my
experience, you can't just install RKM out of the box according to their
directions and expect it to work correctly.

If you need any more help, again, I'd suggest opening a ticket but also post
your questions here too.

Thanks,

I have added to my IIS a virtual directory called rkm and it points to the

To get into tomcat manager, you got to set up a manager role in the
tomcat-users.xml file. You need to have a user of tomcat as a member of this
role..
Since you are trying to authenticate using tomcat / tomcat, have you set up
tomcat to be a manager?

Task is slightly different as it comes under:

Application Administration Console/Custom Configuration/Task management
System/Assignment/Assignment Configuration

There are two further changes as to how the other application config
forms work

1. appadmin does not have access only Demo (strangely, you may want
to check in case it is just my example system)
2. Assignment process is a required field, and therefore you must
set the record status to Inactive.

For info the form is TMS:AssignmentConfiguration.

assigned to an individual. In incident and change mgmt we have rules
were we can define not to assign an incident or change to a group but
not to any individual in a group. I am looking for something similar in
tasks but no matter what I am not able to turn off the assignments in

Sorry for the no subject, my original email had a subject, but it was

Thanks Roger, that gets the sync to stop. There was a trick out there
that some people used that would fix the issue where it would crash the
admin tools. I believe it involved deleting some forms. Does anyone
remember the issue, because I'm still crashing my admin tool every time

Open the object admin form, and change the record value from 1 to 0. That
allows it to run again.

Syncing Active Directory Group Membership with Remedy

2008-08-25 Thread Niu, Jason
Good day all,

We are planning to manage remedy groups and it's memberships in Active
Directory, instead of in remedy.

I have successfully created the vendor form to view the Group class
entries. In the member property of a group, I am getting a list of the
members of that group in text form. We need to extract that information
into remedy group membership table; so each membership has one entry in
the table. Has anyone done similar work? What is your approach to handle
this?

Here is an example of what we get in the member field:

CN=dabc,OU=Users,OU=NYC,OU=America,DC=abc,DC=abc,DC=abc,DC=com;

CN=babc,OU=Users,OU=NYC,OU=America,DC=abc,DC=abc,DC=abc,DC=com;

CN=pabc,OU=Users,OU=NYC,OU=America,DC=abc,DC=abc,DC=abc,DC=com;

CN=d123,OU=Users,OU=NYC,OU=America,DC=abc,DC=abc,DC=abc,DC=com;

CN=c123,OU=Users,OU=NYC,OU=America,DC=abc,DC=abc,DC=abc,DC=com;

Thanks in advance,
Jason Niu

Gary,
It doesn't always work.. What Remedy support reccommends when these crashes
occur is to redo the sync database forms by deleting them.. There are 3 of

After deleting these forms, rebuild them and then see if it helps..
The primary cause why the sync operation fails is if it is run against a
significantly large database - size in terms of structure - thousands of forms,
and active links and filters etc.. I was never able to run it on ITSM 7
databases - it either failed by crashing the admin tool or sometimes even
though it looks like it has completed with the end message that the search
completed, it is actually incomplete. Many of the forms do not have anything in
the sync database tables thus showing blank space in the Related Workflow tab..
Over the past year or so I have actually given up on ever expecting this
feature to work on large databases such as the ITSM database..

6.03, no patch. I thought we were at 19, but I guess not. I know it
works, the guy before me did it, and he had to do some maneuvering to
get it working. I think he deleted the three object forms, and then next
time he ran the sync, it recreated them and worked.

I was hoping someone out there had done that so they could confirm that
would indeed fix the issue before I tried doing it.

Gary,

It doesn't always work.. What Remedy support reccommends when these
crashes occur is to redo the sync database forms by deleting them..
There are 3 of these forms and they all begin with object_

After deleting these forms, rebuild them and then see if it helps..

The primary cause why the sync operation fails is if it is run against a
significantly large database - size in terms of structure - thousands of
forms, and active links and filters etc.. I was never able to run it on
ITSM 7 databases - it either failed by crashing the admin tool or
sometimes even though it looks like it has completed with the end

the forms do not have anything in the sync database tables thus showing
blank space in the Related Workflow tab..

Over the past year or so I have actually given up on ever expecting this

Thanks Roger, that gets the sync to stop. There was a trick out there
that some people used that would fix the issue where it would crash the

Failed to load prerequisite application

2008-08-25 Thread Sharon Menachem
Hi,

I am trying to install Helpdesk 6 on ARS 7.1.04, SQL 2005 (remote db),
windows environment. I have installed Java 1.5, SQL Server Clients, ARS
7.1.04, Email Engine 7.1.04, Flashboard server 7.1 and approval server
7.1. I have also installed the admin tool and user tool on the server
and mid tier is installed on another server.

First the installation fails to see that the Flashboard server is
installed and then it fails completely with the error message: Failed to
load the prerequisite application.

The only other piece of information which may or may not be pertinent is
that I am not able to get the server licensed - I enter the license info
and get an error that it is not a valid license for this workstation but
then when I click ok I get the standard message that the license has
been granted. However when running the admin tool I get the message that
it is a demo system. A call has been opened with BMC on this subject.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

That is what has always happened to me.. I guess the reason why Remedy support
asks you to delete the forms is just to clear them out and restart the process.
It didn't help me ever.. Often before my admin tool crashed I would run out of
system resources on my client - the process nearly hogged all my client memory
resource..
In my opinion the database structure has simply grown out too large for this
process to handle. I have even tried the operation in a admin only mode, and
didn't get too far.. I've even tried the operation on the command line hoping
that might work.. still no go..
I've even tried helping the process by truncating the t and h tables and
resetting the nextid's to 1 making them look as though the operation was never
ever run.. That didn't help me either..

My database is very small though, so I think there are other issues at
hand. I only have 65 forms, 646 ALS, and 255 filters, and that's
including the sample stuff, and all of the AR System forms that are
installed by default.

I don't want to patch right now, as I'll be moving to 7.1 within a few
months anyways.

Thanks for all the help. I was hoping there was a solution available. I
might try a different version of the admin tool and see if that helps.

I have to agree with Rick on this issue. I had similar problems with
the Sync Search DB crashing my Admin tool when I was running Admin 7.0.1
Patch 8. I upgraded to Admin 7.1 Patch 4, and have since been able to
run the Sync Search DB operation without any problems. We are also
running the full ITSM 7 Suite of applications.

sometimes even though it looks like it has completed with the end
message that the search completed, it is actually incomplete. Many of

Help please - ARPlugin crashes on WebService call

2008-08-25 Thread Pascale Boyer
Hi all,

We are suddenly experiencing problems with the arplugin. Everything was
running smoothly for the past several weeks and now suddenly we get the
message
ARERR [8939] Le serveur AR System Plug-In ne répond pas. Impossible de se
connecter au système pour le moment. Adressez-vous à l'administrateur AR
System pour assistance.

Which can be translated by the AR System Plug-in isn't responding. unable
to connect to the system. Contact your AR System Administrator.

I put the logs to 400 and this is all I can see:

If we call the webservice outside ARS, everything works perfectly fine and
quickly.
I had some arplugin threads hoping that it would help ... Just more

Not sure if by increasing the timeout from 60 sec to higher is an

Did you update only your admin tool to that patch or did it require a

Re: Mid Tier 7.1

2008-08-25 Thread Michelle L
Hi, Fred:

As you mentioned, it doesn't seem to work using the ViewFormServlet syntax
in your email below. However, I noticed that it works with the
ViewFormServlet if the mode parameter is used, or at the very least it
works with mode=Submit. Without the mode parameter, obviously it opens in
Search mode.

Example:
http://mymidtier/arsys/servlet/ViewFormServlet?server=myarsserverform=myformusername=mynamepwd=mypwdmode=SubmitF431470927=WhatsUuhhhppp

Mid-Tier 7.1.00 Patch 003 (with support patch for record display
performance issue)
ARS 7.1.00 Patch 003
Windows 2003, SQL Server 2005, IIS, Tomcat 5.5.17, IE 6.0

Hope that helps,
Michelle

Hi Fred,

I just confirmed this behavior with MT 7.1 patch 002.

We have been fighting an issue where using login parameters in the URL
will drop the parameter but if we take out the login info and stop at the
login page first the parameter would pass as expected. This app hasn't
moved to production so finding the solution hasn't been a high priority
yet.

We had not tried LoginServlet until seeing this post. Thanks for
providing the solution.

Re: Help please - ARPlugin crashes on WebService call

2008-08-25 Thread Joe DeSouza
Pascal,
Have you set the Plugin-Filter-API-Threads parameter in the ar.conf file?
If not I would suggest setting it.. I had a similar problem a few days ago that
went away as soon as I set this parameter with a min setting of 1 and a max
setting of 15.. This is what I have in my configuration file now..
Plugin-Filter-API-Threads: 1 15
You will need to restart the AR System server after you set this or at least
run the arsignal -c to re read the configuration file..
Let me know if this helps..
Cheers

Subject: Sync Search Database crashes Admin Tool and then Freezes

Sorry for the no subject, my original email had a subject, but it was sent
incorrectly and errored.

Thanks Roger, that gets the sync to stop. There was a trick out there that some
people used that would fix the issue where it would crash the admin tools. I
believe it involved deleting some forms. Does anyone remember the issue,
because I'm still crashing my admin tool every time I try to sync.

Thanks,

Gary

Hi all, I know that I've seen it on here before, but due to changing jobs, I do
not have my vast archive of emails through which I could search.

Whenever you sync your search dataset, and it causes your admin tool to crash,
then you open your admin tool, it still says it's searching, and never
finishes, what is it you do in order to rectify the situation and get a new
search database synced?

I have seen it done before, but forgot how.

Thanks

Now I'm curious, especially since I still have the patch 008 upgrade
to look forward to.

So, what records are _supposed_ to be retained in SYS:Action? I just
took a look at our production server and there are 5 DLDLOADFOUNDATION
CFG:LoadBusinessTimeHolidays records from when we loaded foundation data
that probably shouldn't be there, and then 5,323 UPDATESLMREASON records
that appear to be every individual action (all different support staff
login names as the Submitters) to provide a reason why an SLM was missed
for a specific Incident. You would think that those would go away after
being posted to the SLA, but that integration was so buggy that there is
just no telling. What kinds of records are sitting in the SYS:Action
form on your server?

2008-08-25 Thread Begosh, Kevin
Well there is a known bug with the SYS:Action form that BMC knows about
and there is going to be a fix in the next release which form what they
told me is 7.5 in which records are not being deleted from the
SYS:Action form. Our form had about 800,000 records that should not
have been there. There is more to that though because when we started
to try and delete those records manually we got errors that would not
let us delete them so we are working through that as well. I will let
you know what it is when I find out. BMC said that we can created a
escalation in the meantime to delete those excess records and that is
what I am going to do as soon as we figure out why we cannot delete
them. The error is,

ARERR [102] Name parameter (or name field in a parameter) is empty :
300427600

in case anyone has ever come across that.

Well, without knowing how long it will take BMC to get an answer back, you
might try simply recreating the intent of the workflow already in place.
That should get you at least closer to what you need without much risk.

I suspect that the original workflow will function as designed again once
the burden of all of those records is no longer an issue.

Re: ITSM Application Patch 8 Install Error

2008-08-25 Thread Rick Cook
I think that the number of records is the core problem. In a maintenance
mode, I suspect it will work fine, but with the thousands of records added
via installations, the workflow structure couldn't keep up. That's just an
educated (and perhaps optimistic) guess on my part, but that would be the
first thing I would try toward resolving the issue. The Delete workflow
seems like it could be constructed more efficiently, but I don't think
that's the core of the problem.
