Unless you are on Windows, CMDB 2.1 is not supported with AR System 7.5.00
because AR System 7.5.00 server is a 64-bit executable on UNIX and Linux.

Try saving the definition of that menu after making a change.. and then revert
it back to what it should be and then save again. This should force a recache
of the definition of that menu.

It appears like it should have worked.. If you are testing this over the
Mid-Tier you might want to refresh the Mid-Tier cache. Or if you are trying
this on the thick client, try deleting all the local client cache.

Re: Remedy Technical Support Options. Any opinions?

2009-07-13 Thread Paolino, Andrew
Hi List,

Column has picked up TuringSMI customers as well as some of their staff.
Consonus/Strategic's accounts were assumed in the Remedy space. Column's
acquisitions were limited to just those two entities.

Having said that (being partial), I would recommend our services in New
York and in the greater New York metropolitan area as we have the
largest concentration of technical resources compared to any other BMC
partners (and BMC themselves).

Rabi, if you're interested in knowing about how we can support you,
please contact me directly.

Also, for reference:

http://www.columnit.com/news_detail.aspx?id=1850

The other press releases about the international offices (South Africa
and APAC) are available as well.

Thanks!

-Andrew

Mark,

We have been using webMethods for a two way integration between Remedy (our
data center) and another ticketing system (at a vendor location). There was
some work needed to set this up initially. Now it's working like a charm.

Another solution would be to upgrade to AR System 7.5.00 – which includes the Auto-complete capability on the web.
Auto-completion in menus
For forms that are viewed in a web browser, you can turn on an “automatic complete” feature for character fields that
have a menu attached to them. When this feature is turned on for a field and a user begins typing text into the field, a list of values that match the text appears. When multiple values are presented, the user can change the selection with the up and down
arrow keys or using the mouse. To select a highlighted option, the user presses Enter or clicks it.

To enable this feature, select the field in BMC Remedy Developer Studio, and set the Auto Complete and Auto Complete
Match By properties accordingly. See the “Automatically completing menu entries” section of the
Form and
Application Objects Guide.

Dear List,

I have a “Department” field (field ID 10), with choices listed in a “Department Form.”  I want users to be able to either click on the Menu button and see all choices, or enter one or more leading characters and see the choices
that begin with those letters.  (Eg, type in “Eco” and then see “Ecology” and “Economics” in the menu.)

If I have no qualifications in my menu it shows all choices.

If my qualification says:
'Department' LIKE ($10$ + "%" )
It works if the user enters a leading letter or two, but if there are no leading letters it says, “(No entries in menu).”

I tried:
    $10$ = $NULL$ OR 'Department' LIKE ($10$ +  "%" )

But still got “(No entries in menu).”

'Department' LIKE ( "%"  + $10$ +  "%" )
works if there are no leading characters, but if there are leading characters, it offers choices in which the leading characters appear anywhere in the Department name.  (Workable, but not ideal.)

Any suggestions?

Could well be a bug.. The tool does look like it needs some work done on it

Problems I have faced with even the latest drop of the tool were fortunately

BMC ARS 7.5.0 Patch 2

We are currently working with a number of forms in the Developer Studio.

We have found that forms with 330 fields or more cannot be "rendered" properly
in the Developer Studio after being modified.

This means that only parts of the forms can be seen or none of the form detail
can be seen.

We have rolled back the Studio to the original unpatched version - only to find
that we get the same results.

The only time we can see these forms completely is when we use the 7.1
Administrator Tool.

In the user tool (WUT) and the Mid-tier - these forms appear as they normally
should...

Anyone else experiencing the same difficulties?
Hey Joe...

Made the following changes:

Memory Pool = 512 MB
Maximum Memory Pool = 1024 MB
Thread Stack Size = 3000KB

We did not see any change in behavior, but we did notice the
following:

1) We noticed the problem when we disabled a group of 8 buttons that had a
24X24 embedded JPEG image.
2) When the buttons are enabled - the behavior stops.
3) We deleted these buttons and recreated them from scratch using the same
field IDs.
4) The forms now behave accordingly.

The log files did not show anything, but the Dev Studio Configuration
Log files shows:

1) Save Failures.
2) java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Argument not valid.
3) Errors include SWT.error:3761, SWT.error:3766, SWT.error:3795

Looks like a BUG!

Re: Allowing users to enter leading characters in search menu field

2009-07-13 Thread Easter, David
It is. We have an internal system where I have to select which code name of
the product I’m querying against. The old way, I’d have to use the menu to
select “Product -> AR System -> Version -> In Development -> Code Name”. Now,
I could just type “Ant” and the code name “Antelope” would come up
automatically. Even better, if another Product (e.g. CMDB) had a code name of
“Anteater”, it would show that as well so I don’t even need to remember which
Product a particular code name is assigned to – I can just start typing the
code name and it will find it across all Products.

Another solution would be to upgrade to AR System 7.5.00 – which includes the
Auto-complete capability on the web.
Auto-completion in menus
For forms that are viewed in a web browser, you can turn on an “automatic
complete” feature for character fields that have a menu attached to them. When
this feature is turned on for a field and a user begins typing text into the
field, a list of values that match the text appears. When multiple values are
presented, the user can change the selection with the up and down arrow keys or
using the mouse. To select a highlighted option, the user presses Enter or
clicks it.

To enable this feature, select the field in BMC Remedy Developer Studio, and
set the Auto Complete and Auto Complete Match By properties accordingly. See
the “Automatically completing menu entries” section of the Form and Application
Objects Guide.

Subject: Allowing users to enter leading characters in search menu field

**
Dear List,

I have a “Department” field (field ID 10), with choices listed in a
“Department Form.” I want users to be able to either click on the Menu button
and see all choices, or enter one or more leading characters and see the
choices that begin with those letters. (Eg, type in “Eco” and then see
“Ecology” and “Economics” in the menu.)

If I have no qualifications in my menu it shows all choices.

If my qualification says:
'Department' LIKE ($10$ + "%" )
It works if the user enters a leading letter or two, but if there are no
leading letters it says, “(No entries in menu).”

I tried:
$10$ = $NULL$ OR 'Department' LIKE ($10$ + "%" )
But still got “(No entries in menu).”

'Department' LIKE ( "%" + $10$ + "%" )
works if there are no leading characters, but if there are leading characters,
it offers choices in which the leading characters appear anywhere in the
Department name. (Workable, but not ideal.)

Any suggestions?

Subject: Allowing users to enter leading characters in search menu field II

**
Dear List,

A different problem from the one I submitted a few minutes ago
To review: I have a “Department” field (field ID 10), with choices
listed in a “Department Form.”  I want users to be able to either click on the
Menu button and see all choices, or enter one or more leading letters and see
the choices that begin with those letters.  (Eg, type in “Eco” and then see
“Ecology” and “Economics” in the menu.)  The qualification for the search menu
says:

    'Department' LIKE (( $10$) +  "%" ) OR $10$ = " "

That works, thanks to some good advice from the ARSList.

I also have a “Dept ID” field (field ID 565000194) with choices listed in a
different field in the same “Department Form.” The qualification in my search
menu says:
'Dept ID' LIKE (($565000194$) + "%" ) OR $565000194$ = ""
This menu brings in every Dept ID  in the entire Department Form regardless of
what I type in the field.
What am I doing wrong?

See
the “Automatically completing menu entries” section of the Form andApplication
Objects Guide.

By saying last updated field do you mean a field whose definition has been
updated last by a developer? Or are you talking of the contents of a field

fields in that form, there is practically no way of doing this without
making it a very expensive operation where you store information for time
for each field updated in another form via push field options after doing a

Another alternative is auditing each field using the OTB audit functionality

If its definitions you are looking for where an administrator may have made

From the install guide; (oracle)

To use a previously created tablespace in AR System

1 In an SQL*Plus window, create the tablespace. For example:
create tablespace arsys datafile 'c:\qa\data\QATST\data\arsys.dbf' size 500M
reuse;

2 Create a user. For example:
create user aradmin identified by AR#Admin# default tablespace arsys temporary
tablespace temp quota unlimited on arsys;

3 Create a role for the user you created. For example:
create role ARole_arsys not identified;

4 Set the privileges for the role. For example:
grant alter session, create cluster, create database link, create sequence,
create session, create synonym, create table, create view, create procedure,
create trigger, query rewrite to ARole_arsys;

5 Grant the role to the user. For example:
grant ARole_arsys to aradmin;

2009/7/10 Joe DeSouza :

To the best of my knowledge the previous versions it was enough to have full
CONNECT (with the Admin Option) and the DBA (with the Admin option) for the
ARADMIN user.. Have some more roles been added to 7.5? I do not have the
documents handy right now to check so someone could kindly verify this for me?

Another solution would be to upgrade to AR System 7.5.00 - which includes the
Auto-complete capability on the web.
Auto-completion in menus
For forms that are viewed in a web browser, you can turn on an "automatic
complete" feature for character fields that have a menu attached to them. When
this feature is turned on for a field and a user begins typing text into the
field, a list of values that match the text appears.

See
the "Automatically completing menu entries" section of the Form and Application

I would look there but that directory has not yet been created. I want to start

install, I'm seeing a couple of points of failures during the install and I
wanted to see the 'temp' logs equivalent to those found in the /tmp or the

Dear List,

I have a "Department" field (field ID 10), with choices listed
in a "Department Form." I want users to be able to either click on the
Menu button and see all choices, or enter one or more leading characters
and see the choices that begin with those letters. (Eg, type in "Eco"
and then see "Ecology" and "Economics" in the menu.)

If I have no qualifications in my menu it shows all choices.

If my qualification says:

'Department' LIKE ($10$ + "%" )

It works if the user enters a leading letter or two, but if there are no
leading letters it says, "(No entries in menu)."

I tried:

$10$ = $NULL$ OR 'Department' LIKE ($10$ +
"%" )

But still got "(No entries in menu)."

'Department' LIKE ( "%" + $10$ + "%" )

works if there are no leading characters, but if there are leading
characters, it offers choices in which the leading characters appear
anywhere in the Department name. (Workable, but not ideal.)

Any suggestions?

If that is not an option as well for whatever reasons and you wish to take

As mentioned, Web Services are a good way to do this, but it really depends
on the capabilities of the other system, what sort of calls can it make to
integrate with ARS? If it can't make WS calls, then runprocess may be an
option, if you use a command line tool that performs an API update to the

Hi,
Can anyone recommend a way to integrate a proprietary system with ARS.

Users should open tickets in ARS then our system should be notified with the
ticket details and a corresponding ticket will be opened.

The ticket will be processed in our system and we want to update the status
of the ARS ticket upon certain events (approve, close etc.).

Finally we want to tell ARS that processing is complete and the original
ticket can be closed.

Should we use email an API or something else?

Thanks,

No problem. Also make sure you have a reasonable amount of free available
memory on your client. Turning off applications or services that aren't being
used at the time of using the Dev studio may also be a good idea.

Allowing users to enter leading characters in search menu field

2009-07-13 Thread marti...@ad.jmu.edu
Dear List,

I have a "Department" field (field ID 10), with choices listed in a
"Department Form." I want users to be able to either click on the Menu button
and see all choices, or enter one or more leading characters and see the
choices that begin with those letters. (Eg, type in "Eco" and then see
"Ecology" and "Economics" in the menu.)

If I have no qualifications in my menu it shows all choices.

If my qualification says:
'Department' LIKE ($10$ + "%" )
It works if the user enters a leading letter or two, but if there are no
leading letters it says, "(No entries in menu)."

I tried:
$10$ = $NULL$ OR 'Department' LIKE ($10$ + "%" )
But still got "(No entries in menu)."

'Department' LIKE ( "%" + $10$ + "%" )
works if there are no leading characters, but if there are leading characters,
it offers choices in which the leading characters appear anywhere in the
Department name. (Workable, but not ideal.)

Any suggestions?

Re: Upgrade to 7.5: ORA-01439: column to be modified must be empty

2009-07-13 Thread Ross, Isabel (Access LLP)
Thanks for this. Turns out the problem was a known error. (And yes we did
have archiving switched on)

"This has been identified as a defect with the upgrade from 6.3 to 7.5p1 on
Solaris servers with an Oracle 10 database."

The workaround was to empty the column, alter it:
   ALTER TABLE SCHEMA_ARCHIVE MODIFY (archiveFromForm NUMBER(15));
And then reload the data back in again.

And then it was fine.

Actually it looks like it is complaining that there is data in the
SCHEMA_ARCHIVE.archiveFromForm column. Do you have archiving turned on for any
forms in the 6.3 server?

What the installer looks to be doing is to be changing the column type for that
column, and Oracle can't do it while there is data in that column. I wonder if
6.3 used to store the form name and 7.5 will store the form ID (since it says
it is changing the column to a number).

Mark,
As mentioned, Web Services are a good way to do this, but it really depends
on the capabilities of the other system, what sort of calls can it make to
integrate with ARS? If it can't make WS calls, then runprocess may be an
option, if you use a command line tool that performs an API update to the
remedy system you should be able to go from there.

6.3 had 254 characters too in the Login Name. If I recollect right that change
happened between 5.x to 6.0

Cyberhut, another consideration you may need to account for is the version of
your current database. It may or may not be compatible with the next release
you want to jump to, so if you really need someone who has gone through your
exact same path to comment on how they went about it, it may help if you let
the list know what database and version you are on and what OS and its version
you are currently on.

Unless you were looking for a really broad and a very generic roadmap..

We are also a pure custom shop and we upgraded the server from 5.x to 6.3 to
7.1.

The 5 to 6.3 updated license format (You send your license files to Remedy
through the Support Web and they send you back a file with both the 5 and 6.3
formats in it).  This also went through the users and changed the way the
passwords were encrypted.

The version 6.3 to 7.1 upgrade changed all the standard fields that hold a
login (Submitter, Last Modified By, Login Name) to be 254 characters, and moved
the license info from the license file into the database.

BMC ARS 7.5.0 Patch 2

We are currently working with a number of forms in the Developer Studio.

We have found that forms with 330 fields or more cannot be "rendered" properly

This means that only parts of the forms can be seen or none of the form detail
can be seen.

We have rolled back the Studio to the original unpatched version - only to find
that we get the same results.

The only time we can see these forms completely is when we use the 7.1

In the user tool (WUT) and the Mid-tier - these forms appear as they normally
should...

2009-07-13 Thread Jonas Stumph Stevnsvig
Hi guys,

I haven't discovered any similarity other than the fact that they have all been
previously migrated to the first 7.5 server from a 6.3 server.

With regards to the missing fields - I have done extensive comparisons, and
haven't found any fields missing (the majority of our problems with this
migration is that previous remedy developers have had a nasty habit of
modifying core forms).

Is there any similarity of the forms? Are those forms created by an earlier

Does the same happend if you recreate the vui?

Integration with other ticketing systems

2009-07-13 Thread Mark Hofman
Hi,
Can anyone recommend a way to integrate a proprietary system with ARS.

Thanks,
Mark.

Developer Studio 7.5 : Patch 2 - Large Forms Fail To Load

2009-07-13 Thread Elry
Hi Folks ...

Environment:

Windows Server 2003

MSSQL Database 2005

BMC ARS 7.5.0 Patch 2

We are currently working with a number of forms in the Developer
Studio.

We have found that forms with 330 fields or more cannot be "rendered"
properly in the Developer Studio after being modified.

This means that only parts of the forms can be seen or none of the
form detail can be seen.

We have rolled back the Studio to the original unpatched version -
only to find that we get the same results.

The only time we can see these forms completely is when we use the 7.1
Administrator Tool.

In the user tool (WUT) and the Mid-tier - these forms appear as they
normally should...

Anyone else experiencing the same difficulties?

how to catch the last modified field

2009-07-13 Thread Remedy Maniac

dear listers,

I am not running ITSM.
Only ARSystem version 6.01 with Sybase 12.5.3 and the mid-tiers 6.3
We are in the process of upgrade.

By the time being, I have the following concern:
- on a webpage where I see my tickets, I have several fields such as
Problem description, Short description, Worklog, Resolution.
It's a pity because I don't see the content of the fields. I need to
click on the edit icon to display the pop-up window which gives me the
content of the field.
Now what I would like is to catch somehow, which field has been updated
last. So I could maybe display this info in a way or another. So I will
go straight to that field. Instead of looking field after field which
one has the most updated info.

Any help/idea/suggestiongs?

Serouche

Re: BMC Remedy: Subtract Date/Time

2009-07-13 Thread Frank Caruso
The return value from the calculation is the difference in seconds. You
cannot set a datetime field to that value.

You want to report the duration of the alarm which cannot be reported in a
date format. It can be reported as the number of minutes or hours or days or
as a combination such as 3:10 (3 hours 10 minutes).

Sore the Alarm Duration as an integer and then convert it to minutes, days,
hours, etc

Re: SRM on 7.5

2009-07-13 Thread Joe DeSouza
The even more fun part would be when (and if) patch 4 is released AND if it is
cumulative (which would mean it would include Patch 3).. And if patch 4 fixes
SRM and includes Patch 3.. So you would need Patch 4 BUT it may have
installation issues cause Patch 3 may not install depending on how smart the
installer is..

Joe,

The fun part is if you need patch 3, how do you install it?

Although, to be fair I have to say that I stopped trying before BMC could
help me come to a solution, so I don’t want to imply that they were unable

Actually, I did get the installer to run, but once I restarted the AR

Re: BMC Remedy: Subtract Date/Time

2009-07-13 Thread Joe DeSouza
Dude,

Time in Remedy is stored in seconds, and when you subtract the two and set that
value to another time field, that is the result you would get as its the number
of seconds since 1st Jan 1970 (epoch time)..

Set the difference to an integer field, which will be the number of seconds,
and then create a function to read this value and convert it to days, hrs, mnts
and seconds..

Joe

Frank here's the formula you gave, and changes some part of it:
$PROCESS$ @@:Application-Bus-Time-Diff $Alarm End Date$ $Alarm Start Date$

and the image is like this:
ALARM START DATE : 7/1/2009 12:00:00 AM
ALARM END DATE : 7/30/2009 12:00:00 AM
ALARM DURATION : 1/1/1970 8:00:00 AM

Well you see the output (ALARM DURATION ) is not correct if you're going to
subtract the start and the end date.

Gee! thanks for the help

Re: BMC Remedy: Subtract Date/Time

2009-07-13 Thread kryptonboy22
Frank here's the formula you gave, and changes some part of it:
$PROCESS$ @@:Application-Bus-Time-Diff $Alarm End Date$ $Alarm Start Date$

and the image is like this:
ALARM START DATE : 7/1/2009 12:00:00 AM
ALARM END DATE : 7/30/2009 12:00:00 AM
ALARM DURATION : 1/1/1970 8:00:00 AM

Well you see the output (ALARM DURATION ) is not correct if you're going to
subtract the start and the end date.

Gee! thanks for the help

I tried the one you gave me but i have to change a bit cause im getting an
error

I tried this one but yet the output didn't change.

Heres the output:
