Re: Help button in ITSM 8.1 not working

2013-10-17 Thread laurent matheo
Hi :)

In the one I mentioned (« BMCRemedyITSMSuite8.1.00.help.zip »), you should
have the installer here for « service desk » for example:
« /servicedesk/incident/help/"
Setup.exe

You have several installers in fact, per module for ITSM (asset, change,
rkm, servicedesk).

Re: CMDB - mobile phones - where?

2013-10-17 Thread Hennigan, Sandra
Our federated data is a custom form in Remedy.

Workflow adds a wireless record when a CI is added and the wireless record is
updated as the CI is modified. When the CI is related to a user, the assignee
is pushed to the wireless record; assignee is removed when the CI is un-related.

This allows for lots of data pertaining to the wireless item to be added, keeps
you from adding new fields to the OOB forms and keeps non-CMDB data out of the
CMDB. The wireless record is opened from a link on the CI record.

Subject: Template Assignment Flow

**

Hi All,

I have been experimenting with Tasks/Templates/Group Templates for a good
chunk of the day and have not been able to get the desired flow. Basically I
want to create a Work Order, use a Task Group Template and then once the
Status of the Work Order is set In-Progress, the tasks are assigned one at a
time in order without further human intervention.

I am doing this with Work Orders but should apply to the other applications.
I want to create 5 Task Templates and put them in a Task Group Template,
sequenced 1-5. Each Task is for a different Assigned Group and the Assignee
is blank. Can't use the assignment engine to assign to a person.

What happens OOB: When the status of Work Order to In-Progress, the Status
of the first Task changes to Pending/Assignment and 2-5 are Staged. Then
someone has to set the Status to Assigned. Once the first Task is Closed,
the second becomes Pending/Assignment and someone has to assign that one
out. Same for tasks 3-5.

What I need to have happen: When the status of Work Order to In-Progress,
the Status of the first Task changes to Assigned and 2-5 are Staged. Then
when the first Task is Closed, the second becomes Assigned. Same for tasks
3-5.

Is that possible? I would think so and I am just not getting what the guide
is saying.

ITSM 7.6.04 SP3

Thanks

Mark

Another strange mid-tier cache issue

Morning, afternoon and evening all,

Last night we modified the Change console (to display a couple of more fields
on the table) on our 7.6.4 system.

On two of our three mid-tiers (after flushing cache) the changes show up, on
the third one not so much.

We have also stopped tomcat, cleared out the physical cache, restarted tomcat
and then cleared cache again, with no luck.

Also we did try different browsers, users and clearing local cache.

All three mid-tiers, are on the same versions of everything.

Any Ideas?

Hi,

Not sure if it is appropriate. Try removing the AR server from mid tier
configuration and add it again.
Also if you ar server is a server group make sure that all the ar server
has the code changes made.

Went to the web site and there is no information I can find about who is behind
it, i.e. names, what version or versions are supported etc.

My opinion so far is that I will not download the product since I can’t verify
the source or that it will work with the version of ARSystem I have.

I also can’t see form the visible information what the advantage is over the

Looking at the whois it might be people from Devoteam:

Clear your browser cache.

To clear the browser cache on IE, follow these steps:

Logout of Remedy.

Hit the F12 key.

When the Developer Tools open, click Cache on the menu (CTRL + R).

In the Cache menu, select "Clear browser cache . . ."

Click OK in the dialog.

Close the browser.

Dedicate a browser to Remedy use.

Logout of the application and close the browser at the end of the day.

Routinely clear the browser cache.

Joe,

None of our service desk agents have unrestricted access. For those that
support multiple tenants, they have access to just those companies, but the
issue lies in the fact that the Assigned Support Group menu does not qualify
against who the Customer's Company is, the qualification on the menu is just
'Status'="Enabled", since they have access to multiple tenants, the menu
selection will show all the support groups they are authorized to see,
irrespective of what company the Customer's Company is.

Our Service Desk supports multiple tenants within Remedy. For example, we have
Company A, B and C. Service Desk Agent 1 supports Company A and C, while
Service Desk Agent 2 supports Company A, B and C.In relation to just
Incidents (for this example), out of the box, if you have access to multiple
tenants(companies), the Assigned Group menu gives you all the companies you
have access to, therefor, you are able to create an Incident ticket for
Customer in Company A and assign the ticket to a support group in Company B.

We have workflow today that checks the Assigned Support Company against the
Contact Company, which is checked on Submit and Modify. What I am driving
to is making it cleaner and have Remedy display the relevant information for
the current Contact Company. With that, taking the example above, when Service
Desk Agent 1 creates an Incident ticket for Customer in Company A, the support
group menu will only show support groups for Company A, it shouldn't show
support groups for Company C.

No if you have a search menu and want to include that field in the search menu

What really is your business requirement that you need a functionality such as

I am finally getting around to taking a look at our current customizations

model, where an individual at the call center has access to multiple tenants.
So far, we have done a pretty good job of creating workflow (only for Incidents
at this time) to not allow an individual with access to multiple tenants to
"cross company boundaries", primary example is Assigned Group; currently, on
submit or modify, workflow checks Contact Company against Assigned Support

This particular workflow is causing other issues, so I have decided to look

So here is what they did to fix it.

1. Confirm that the changes did not get to the arserver that the midtier is
talking to:

Logged directly to server with user tool Opened console via object list Did not
see change Confirms that changes did not get to server Ran arsignal -r

Wait

2. Login via user again and confirm changes are there Once confirmed, go to
affected midtier and do hard delete of midtier cache

3. Confirm changes appear on the affected midtier

on the table) on our 7.6.4 system.

Any Ideas?

Re: Help button in ITSM 8.1 not working

2013-10-17 Thread Rüdiger Tams
Hi,
install the web help on the web server (mid tier) not on ar server (if it is
not the same)
or - just extract it and copy the help files to the web server.
But with this you need to configure the form where the installation place of
the help files is stored manually...

have fun!

2013-10-17 Thread Stanley Feinstein
Hi,

I have several very good Sr. Remedy Architects / Developers available as
well as a Sr. Project Manager, and I'm wondering if anyone is looking for
good people. They have Secret and TS clearances and live around the
country: the Washington DC area, Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Omaha, Phoenix and
San Diego. They have experience on government projects as well as
commercial projects, internal systems as well as the Cloud.

If you need someone and would like to learn more or have any questions,
please give me a call at (w) 310-230-1722 or (c) 310-428-5748.

Thanks.

Upgrading AR System 7.1 to 8.1

2013-10-17 Thread Rick Cook
We have some AR System 7.1 servers (all custom forms, no ITSM) that we want to
upgrade to 8.1. We currently are using only the UT as the client, but will be
adding a mid-tier server as at least a potential front-end, since after 8.1,
it's entirely possible that APIs/DLLs might change and cause the client to be
unusable even for custom forms.

What we're looking for and not finding is the upgrade path for AR System. Can
we go straight to 8.1 in one shot, or do we need to stop first at an
intermediate version? I would suspect that it's recommended to stop at 7.6.x
to add the proper overlay status to the forms, but if they'll never be upgraded
by BMC, I fail to see the requirement of that.

2013-10-17 Thread LJ LongWing
Rick,
I know you can go from 7.5 directly to 8.1and from 7.1 to 7.5 of
coursebut I can't pull anything off the top of my head that would
prevent an upgrade directly from 7.1 to 8.1...so my recommendation would be
to try it and see :)

Regarding the move to 'Custom'...absolutely no need to stop at 7.6.04 to do
that...just move all of your objects to Custom when you get to 8.1.

Re: Upgrading AR System 7.1 to 8.1

2013-10-17 Thread Misi Mladoniczky
Hi,

I would install a new 8.1 server and then user RRR|Chive to migrate all your
data over. This will reduce the cut-over time to an hours or so.

If you are completely custom, and have very few, and well documented, changed
to the core forms such as User or Group, you can skip the best practice
conversion thing.

In any event, I would just do it in 8.1 manually. Mark your objects and
right-click -> convert to Custom. Then do the overlays manually on BMC objects
you might have changed.

I have done the above myself a couple of times, and I know many sites have
done so. I have a client of mine doing exactly this right now. They are going
from 7.5 though, but they still chose to installed a clean 8.1 server.

I know of an installation (currently v6.3 - originally v4.5) that's been
running on the same hardware since 2002 - works fine - lasts a long time. Of
course from what I've heard about 8.x it is prudent to review the hardware
configuration to make sure there is enough horsepower.

Ok...lets stop this thread right there. This isn't a political forum, and
we shouldn't be discussing the topic here, it could get ugly REALLY
fast...so please...everyone that has an opinion (of which I'm one of
them)...lets just not rise to the bait, and go somewhere political to
discuss this subject...but let's not do it here, on this list.

Inbound Email Issue - 7.5

2013-10-17 Thread Lippincott, Levi (OMA-GIS)
Hello,
Our inbound emails are processing VERY sporadically (and frequently fails to
process any at all).Sometimes it will set the emails to "read" but will not
delete them, other times it will not even read them. We have tried moving the
emails out of the mailbox and feeding them in 1 at a time. We have tried
restarting the email service, the ARS Service, changing our polling, we
verified our heap size is min 256 max 1024 and we are at 50mb while resting.
We changed the chunk size from 100 to 5000 and we changed the
IncomingMessagesQueueSize from 100 to 20. I also added the
NumberOfSenderThreads = 5 to the EmailDaemon properties. We have analyzed our
indexes and make adjustments accordingly. Nothing seems to be helping. This
is a production issue that is critical to our business.

If it's a regular form, it should just show up, but if it isn't showing up,
your form must be in a deployable application, which means you need to create a
Role, and map that role to your regular group.

to people, and that group has access to the panel

What's the best way to do this?

There is Knowledge Article addressing the problem (KA371654)
https://kb.bmc.com/infocenter/index?page=content&id=KA371654
The advice was to flush the Mid-Tier cache. (if clearing the browser cache does
not help, which doesn't).

However, flushing the Mid-Tier cache has bad impact on performance for the
users.

I shall not quote the KA (due to possible copyrights ;) )

Expand the Right Side to get the Expression Editor popup

In the Expression Editor You would put in (Example is for just 3 fields ... )
$FIELD 1$ + "

When you OK from the Expression Editor you should see something like:
$FIELD 1$ + "?" + $FIELD 2$ + "?" + $FIELD 3$
Where the ? is a square box representing the carriage return character

Re: Upgrading AR System 7.1 to 8.1

2013-10-17 Thread Susan Palmer
We just completed our upgrade of 7.5 to 8.1 on 10/5. We built new servers
switching from Sun to Linux, moved from Oracle 10g to 11g with unicode, and
added Mid-Tier on the new servers. When ready to do the actual migration
cutover for production we used rrrChive to update data (thanks Misi love
that product, so easy, no issues). Previously we had gone from 7.0.1 to
7.5 and we had to stop at 7.1 so possibly you can go direct.

We are all custom so did the Convert to Custom process which was fairly
fast on everything but active links, had to do those in chunks or it timed
out.

We were planning to keep using the 7.5 client until we could get Mid-Tier
ready since it was our first excursion into that area but that lasted a
day. The larger forms in the client were so slow we almost had a
rebellion. Now, it's not all the clients fault but for instance on the
ticket form to retrieve a ticket went from 2-3 secs to 100 secs
consistently. We weren't expecting that because on dev it was maybe 5
secs. The difference between dev and prod is the location of the
application server, dev is in our office, prod is at an offsite data
center. Both databases are offsite. The client apparently is even more
chatty on a version it's not designed for.

We did a magical VM move of our test server from offsite to onsite and
found it too now had the better response time. We'll be doing the same
magic on the prod server next week.

So we released the Mid-Tier to a few users to start it through it's
paces. Things came up continually for the first 5 days. I feel like a
100 year old fireman. Learned alot about cache flushing. Learned alot
about the nuances between Submit and After Submit for button initiated
new records. Learned alot about browsers, Firefox and IE8-9 seem to work
best, although we have many using Chrome and a few Safari's. Started using
tabs which work great with mid-tier.

Of course initially people had a hard adjusting to the different buttons
and cosmetic changes of using the browser. But, they love mid-tier, it's a
speed demon!

Sync cache working better than regular cache and I've had changes everyday
to cache. Less than 10 min to sync.

Tab order is odd since it wants to stop at menu buttons or whatever the
arrows are called; we had 'session timeouts' no matter what I set the
mid-tier config to and found out there was a timeout setting on the port;
shortcuts were different and more people that I would have thought use
them; IE really prefers to be in compatibility mode.

We were timing out on larger query results (3k +). So we added chunking,
which by the way, chunks the client tool too. So that means we cannot just
export a large query results. I'm sure there's some way I should be able
to do it through Report but quite frankly Reports are the least intuitive
thing I've seen in a while. Support said just do the qualifications in a
report without running the query but you cannot do that, or at least I
cannot find a way.

We knew that the buttons in the client tool that run Crystal reports would
not work in mid-tier ahead of time but didn't think we would have to use
mid-tier that quickly. Still have to figure that out. If you're a
contractor that's an expert in that I would consider buying some of your
time to do the conversion. Contact me directly at spal...@shoppertrak.com.

And there's probably other things that are not coming to mind.

Good luck,
Susan

Are you trying to set field 1 or are you trying to set the Incident ID field.
If it is the Incident ID field it would be possible by adding new forms and

Upgrading ARS to 7.6.04 SP5

2013-10-17 Thread Hodgdon, Paul
Anyone have any recommendations on what the best way to upgrade 2 7.6.04 ARS
servers in a server group is?

Do you disable FTS on both, power down ARS 2, do an upgrade on ARS 1, then
bring up ARS 2 and do an install with server group option? I have read you may
need to unjoin ARS 2 from the server group and just do an upgrade on both, then
re-join them.

Should both e-mail engine, assignment engine and approval server be upgraded on
ARS 2?

Hide the OTB sequencing field and create your own sequencing function with a
custom field. It would require a loads of customizations to support that
(email notifications, consoles, etc.) but that should be the easiest way
without having to meddle with the OTB ID's for each module.

Why do you want that kind of a function in the first place?
