Under global configuration mode, type in "enable voip"
and you are all set...

Seriously, though I'm not VOIP expert, I think you
need to provide a whole lot more information before
anyone can help you...

basically you need to remove the nat inside or nat outside command from the
interface, then clear the translations and then you can remove it

Re: I would like to hear from those who have taken the CCIE lab [7:31618]

2002-01-10 Thread Brad Ellis

They have removed ATM and Voice completely. Don't bother studying it. You
should really focus on your loopback and token ring interface configuration.
Make sure you can put the loopback interfaces in a 'down down' state. For
the token ring interfaces, make sure you can program the router to
automatically bring up a token ring interface without a mau or media filter
or anything at all connected to the interface...and for that matter, if you
do use a mau, make sure you can bring up the interface WITHOUT pushing in
the RingIn and RingOut buttons (inside joke).

You should be able to run a mile in under 5 minutes, as the cafeteria has
been relocated 2.5 miles away and you only have a half hour for lunch, bring
pepto and gatorade. Your lab is now written using invisible ink, make sure
you can see it. You may have to repell from the third floor, bring a long
rope. There will be loud music playing, and a laser light show, wear
sunglasses and earplugs. The room temperature will be over 100F, dress
light. You will have to solve world hunger, bring extra food. And last but
not least, NDA!!! You'll find out when you get there!!! Study EVERYTHING

Re: Help on putting "line protocol up" [7:31611]

2002-01-10 Thread John Neiberger

For line protocol to be up, the interface must be connected to
a neighbor, configured correctly, and not administratively down.

If this is a serial connection then you need the following:

1. Correct cabling (back-to-back cables)
2. Clocking, provided by the router with the DCE cable attached.
3. Datalink protocols must be the same on each side. The
default is HDLC but you can also use PPP or Frame Relay back to
back, although frame relay requires a little extra
configuration to do back-to-back.

When you do a show interface you see the following:

Router#sho int s0
Serial0 is up, line protocol is down

The first part of that line refers to the state of the physical
layer (cabling and clocking.) The second part refers to the
datalink layer connection. For the datalink layer to be UP,
the router must be talking to a neighbor that is speaking the
same language.

HTH,
John

RE: ospf over eigrp preference over nbma? [7:31597]

2002-01-10 Thread Cisco Nuts

Hello Vermill,
Thank you for your answer. I cannot add a mask of 0.0.0.0 under eigrp 1
config. I can only add the network .
On the central router, RTB, I can only see the OSPF routes
The central router has a s0.3 multipoint config with mappings for both
dlci's of the other routers.
The other routers RTA and RTC also have a s0 frame relay config with
mappings for the other 2 routers dlci's
What would be the trick to get EIGRP to discover routes from both routers
RTA and RTC?
And why is OSPF taking over EIGRP?
Please advise.
Thank you.

Here is the output of the central router, RTB:

Gateway of last resort is not set

 2.0.0.0/30 is subnetted, 1 subnets
O 2.2.2.0 [110/128] via 7.7.7.2, 00:09:36, Serial0.3

O 7.7.7.2/32 [110/64] via 7.7.7.2, 00:16:15, Serial0.3
C 7.7.7.0/24 is directly connected, Serial0.3
 9.0.0.0/32 is subnetted, 1 subnets
C 9.9.9.9 is directly connected, Loopback9
 15.0.0.0/32 is subnetted, 1 subnets
O 15.15.15.1 [110/65] via 7.7.7.3, 00:09:37, Serial0.3

NO EIGRP routes at all!!

Netw 4 and 15 belong to RTA and
Netw 2 and 192. belong to RTC
Netw 9 belongs to RTB itself.

ISDN dialer watch VS floating static routes [7:31609]

2002-01-10 Thread Charlie Wehner

When configuring an ISDN backup for a frame relay circuit do most people
typically use "dialer watch" or "floating static routes". In my scenerio,
it's for an eigrp network and a single router.

I've seen the following article on Cisco's website:

http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/123/backup-main.html

However, all things being equal, which one would you use?

Thanks in advance,
Charlie

2002-01-10 Thread Cisco Nuts

You are absolutely right, my friend. I bumped into this tech-note from cco
and it says the same..I tried it and found out that this is the only way for
EIGRP to work!! Very strange!! I have BGP running on the router along with
EIGRP and also a default route of 0.0.0.0 pointing to my outbound serial.
Then after redistributing this static under eigrp, all other routers inside
my network can get to outside networks learned via BGP..I wonder why IGRP
understands the ip default route but not EIGRP...Anyone has any ideas on
this??
Thank you for your help. :-)

Tom,

Did you ever get an answer to your question? I had hoped someone would
chime in on this one. I was wondering if it had something to do with subnet
zero? Something doesn't seem right about that in the back of my mind, but
as you pointed out, the configs are pretty much the same otherwise. What
happens if you change it to 100.0.2.0/24?

RE: ospf over eigrp preference over nbma? [7:31597]

2002-01-10 Thread s vermill

I suspect that it has to do with the "additional link-state updates" that
you sometimes read about where OSPF and NBMA multipoint circuits are being
discussed. Notice that the routes are /32. I don't believe that EIGRP has
such a mechanism. So OSPF is really the only protocol that knows of the /32
routes. Looking at your topology tables and link-state databases in
addition to the routing table might confirm that. Or try adding a network
statement in EIGRP with a 0.0.0.0 mask for each remote router interface.
Although not something you would necessarily want to do in a real network,
it might displace those OSPF host routes and help reveal the answer. I'm
not sure about that though.

Johan,

Yes I think you have it right. The hold time is by default three times the
hello interval but can be set to any value manually. Per BSCN, "if you
change the hello interval, you must adjust the hold time to reflect the
configured hello interval." Hold time is sent in the outbound hello, and is
kept in the neighbor table of the receiving router.

RE: Fefault route for eigrp? [7:31592]

EIGRP behaves a little differently than all of the other protocols. You
first have to define a static 'ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 x.x.x.x' and then
add a 'network 0.0.0.0' to your EIGRP config. I think you have to
'redistribute static' as well. It will not propogate a default as a result
of the 'default-network' command.

Fwd: RE: CCIE preparation [7:31305]

2002-01-10 Thread Wes Stevens

Hi Dennis,

Just a couple of comments on your lab equipment.

Instead of a 2511 you might consider a CS-516. It is a 2511 without the two
serial ports. They go for around $300 on ebay.

On the voice you might consider a 3810 instead of adding voice to the 2600.
The VCM for the 2600 is expensive. You need one on the 3810 also but there
are usually quit a few for sale on ebay with this and the fxs ports
installed in the $500 to $600 range. Programing the voice on them is the
same as a 2600. I also bought a couple without voice for $300 each instead
of the 2501's. They have a much faster processor.

Thanks for all your help

Wes Stevens

EIGRP Hello vs Hold timers?? [7:31600]

2002-01-10 Thread Johan Strandlööf

Hi all,

Deep in EIGRP I'm seem to be a bit confused as to the inner workings
of the Hello/Hold timers.

The interface command "ip hello-interval eigrp 100 15" obviously sets
the interval by which the interface will multicast the hellos.

The command "ip hold-time eigrp 100 45" does not set the hold time on
the advertising router, but on the neighboring routers interface.

Thus you can never increase the hello more than 3 times without also
changing the hold-time (otherwise adjacencies will be lost/reset). The
hold-time can be set to any value without affecting the adjacencies
(not recommended though - you'll probably get SIA-related problems
instead).

My conclusion: always set both this values when making a change. Beware
of the SIA-timer (timers active). From the routers perspective the hello
timer is set localy, whereas the hold-timer is received.

Please confirm/reject/enlighten. The reason of my confusion was my
previous belief that the hold-timer is set by the neighbors hellos.
(RE-set would be more appropriate if the above is correct).

/Johan

ospf over eigrp preference over nbma? [7:31597]

2002-01-10 Thread Cisco Nuts

Hello,
I have 3 routers configured with eigrp and ospf connected to a simulated
frame relay network through a 4th router.
All 3 routers are part of the same subnet, 7.7.7.1, .2, .3. a multipoint
circuit.
The middle router RTB (acting as the Central router) discovers networks from
RTA and RTC via Eigrp but the multipoint circuit itself is discovered via
ospf.Why is this so?
Why isn't EIGRP the only protocol that shows up in the central router's
routing table?
I even went and explicitly stated the AD for ospf as 111 but still no luck.
Can anyone advise?
Thank you.

Here is the routing table for RTB, the Central router:

Gateway of last resort is not set

time based dialer string [7:31596]

2002-01-10 Thread Chris Read

What is the best way of managing a dial up interface
which needs to dial a different telephone number,
dependent upon the time of day? (same IP address
for both)

I have tried policy routing through 2 dialer interfaces,
each with time-based ACL's referenced through the
dialer-group statement. This which works fine
except that I also have an encrypted tunnel to which
the policy does not get applied.

Fefault route for eigrp? [7:31592]

2002-01-10 Thread Cisco Nuts

Hello,
Is there a command to configure a default route for eigrp speaking routers.
The default-network command works for rip and igrp and the
defaul-information originate command works for ospf but I am unable to
inject a default route to an eigrp speaking router.
I tried default-information in 10 with 10 being the access-list that permits
any on RTB but no luck.

Basically, I have RTA connected to RTB connected to RTC. These 3 routers run
eigrp 1 while RTC also runs BGP 100 connected with neighbor RTD running BGP
200.
RTC is learning routes from BGP 200 but I am unable to get to those networks
from RTA or RTB.
I even tried the redistribute bgp 100 command under router eigrp on RTC but
still no luck.
What am I missing about EIGRP that I have no problem with IGRP, RIP or OSPF?
Thanks for your advise.

Did you mean something along the lines of... "Pick a (hardware) platform.
If it supports BGP at all, then almost every version of IOS for that

2900 multiple monitor ports?!?! [7:31589]

2002-01-10 Thread Michael Williams

Hello all,

I know that on a 5000/5500 that there are alot of limitations on monitor
(span) ports.

However, I have a 2900 and need to have 2 ports monitor all of the others
(i.e. have port 21 monitor ports 1-20 and also have port 22 monitor ports
1-20). Can the 2900 do this? I gave the commands on the two ports to have
them both monitor the same port and it accepted the command.

FastEthernet 0/21
port monitor fast0/1
speed 100
duplex full
spanning-tree portfast
!
FastEthernet 0/22
port monitor fast0/1
speed 100
duplex full
spanning-tree portfast

Does anyone know of any specific limitations regarding this scenario? I
would have left the config like this to test it, but it's a production box
and didn't wanna take a chance on downing it but it took the command so
I would think it's possible.

TIA!
Mike W.

Don't know what you mean by BGP default routes unless you mean partial
routes from a provider. I have done this a few times when provider A
is, lets say, a 3M connection and providers B is a T1. You do BGP,
learn default only via BGP from provider A and get partial routes from
provider B, partial routes being routes that the provider originates.

Good point. You better be able to do it in every way that's available.
What if your directions were "don't use neighbor commands", as a few of the
lab preparation guides suggest?

Also, be mindful that older versions of IOS (pre 12.0, I believe) did not
have ospf network-type "point-to-point" Just in case you run into that in
the real world.

Try under $600 if you are lucky. Most go for a little more though, so in
the low $600's isn't unreasonable. More than that is. At that point, you
can get two 2501's and a crossover v.35.

Re: %static entry in use, cannot remove [7:31560]

2002-01-10 Thread Darrell Newcomb

My preference in this is to just scope the translation clearing to just
the affected static, then quickly delete the static translation which I
think sridder was saying.

In particularly busy environments an inbound acl on the
internal/external interfaces will keep traffic from triggering the
static translation while you can delete it and then remove the
additional acl denies. If you do it all carefully no other endpoints
will have service distrupted and that should always be a goal.

I think I used IOS 12.1(9) with IP/IPX/FW PLUS (I think).
I know exactly what you mean since after the IOS upgrade, it worked in our
lab environment as well.
It is definitely your IOS issue.
Try to upgrade to IP PLUS or if your memory and flash supports it, use the
all feature one.
Let me know how it works out.

515UR Upgrade [7:31586]

2002-01-10 Thread Hartnell, George

Hi folks,

Jus' checkin', I'm looking to upgrade my PIX 515UR w/failover from 5.3(1)
wa up to the current 6.2. (Help me, I found myself *liking* the GUI
of that PDM management interface!)

Are there any war stories of note that might save the hapless administrator
hours of time?

Very best, G.

And the women come out to cut up what remains,
Jest roll to your rifle and blow out your brains
An' go to your Gawd like a soldier."

I have seen just this situation, albeit with a 2501. I agree that the

One thing may be that 100.0.0.0 is a class B network. You have it subnetted.

Re: %static entry in use, cannot remove [7:31560]

2002-01-10 Thread AMR

You dont shut down the interface. Just remove the 'ip nat outside' or other
such necessary command from the interface. It's far less affecting to the
router to remove the nat command than it is to shut down an interface which
would possibly cause a change in the route table, forcing calculations, etc.

If you need only 2 ethernet interfaces you can use a 1605R.

Re: DHCP coonection on Cisco Router [7:31559]

2002-01-10 Thread Jim Bond

Regarding your secondary IP, if you use NAT, this will
not work because you can't put both "ip nat inside"
and "ip nat outside" under 1 ethernet interface.

A cheaper router will be a 1605, I guess.

And also, if you have NOT issued the command clear frame inarp (12.1 and
above) or clear frame-inarp (12.0 and below), the map statements will remain
until you reload the routers. That will need to be done on router B and
router C. Routers B and C do not form adjacencies with each other in this
topology *unless* you make use of the full mesh, which you've been
instructed *not* to do. They both form adjacencies with Router A. That's
why you add a map statement to each Router B and Router C to point them to
each other via their respective DLCI's to Router A, unless you're explicitly
told not to do that. (Which is whole different can of worms)

My strategy is shut off inverse arp, clear frame inarp, get the map
statements into the config, write the config, and reload.

You may wish to reschedule your Feb lab date if you're at this point with
OSPF and frame relay a month or so away from your lab. It only gets more
complex than this, and this concept, while not elementary, is 'core' to your
success in the lab exam.

You also need to consider to use the newer Cisco method which is "IP OSPF

Subject: Frame relay map 0.0.0.0 question, please help! CCIE lab is Feb
[7:31555]

I have a frame switch configured for full mesh connectivity over a 3 node
frame relay cloud. Router A and router B cannot use subinterfaces. Router
B and router C can only use thier dlci that connects them to Router A, not
the dlci that connects them to each other. Because the frame switch is set
up as a full mesh, I have disabled inverse arp on router A, B, and C and
have used frame relay map commands with the broadcast parameter on each
router. I am able to ping every router just fine using router A as a hub.
Then I need to enable ospf between all of them. I used the neighbor x.x.x.x
command to enable ospf, but the two spoke routers, B and C, only form adj
with router A, they can not form adj with each other. When I debug ip ospf
adj, I see that routers B and C are sending their poll-intervals? to
0.0.0.0. When I issued a sh frame relay map command, I saw the following
entires:

sh fram map
Serial0/0 (up): ip 0.0.0.0 dlci 503(0x1F7,0x7C70)
  broadcast,
  CISCO, status defined, inactive
Serial0/0 (up): ip 0.0.0.0 dlci 502(0x1F6,0x7C60)
  broadcast,
  CISCO, status defined, inactive
Serial0/0 (up): ip 140.4.1.2 dlci 503(0x1F7,0x7C70), static,
  broadcast,
  CISCO, status defined, inactive
Serial0/0 (up): ip 140.4.1.3 dlci 503(0x1F7,0x7C70), static,
  broadcast,
  CISCO, status defined, inactive

I can not seem to loose the frame maps to 0.0.0.0. They do not show
themselves as being learned dynamically or statically. What do they mean?
How do I get rid of them? How did they get in there? I can not form adj,
please help!!

My rtrC is the AS 100 router. Below, you can see that he's learning 2

which route he's putting in his routing table. This is based on the MEDS

My configs are the same as yours with the exception of the route-map name.
My route-map name matches the route map that I am calling in my nei

BGP question, why do I get "Not advertised to any peer"

Below is from an isolated lab configuration, appologies to the actual
owners of any addresses of AS numbers used.

I have two routers connected together via a serial line. They are in AS400.
They are both connected to AS100 via another serial line. Both have a route
map affecting advertisements to AS100. They each have an ethernet with a
/24 on it. The /24 is getting into BGP via a network command.

The two routers have the loopbacks 6.6.6.6 and 9.9.9.9

network 100.0.0.0 /24 is connected to the ethernet of router 6.6.6.6
network 100.0.1.0 /24 is connected to the ethernet of router 9.9.9.9

When I am on router 6.6.6.6 and I look at the advertisement of network
100.0.1.0 /24 is looks fine
When i am on router 9.9.9.9 and I look at the advertisement of network
100.0.0.0 /24 it says "Not advertised to any peer"

Any ideas why the difference Why can't 100.0.0.0 be avertised to any
peer?

Both routers have been rebooted. The configs look almost identical.

RE: Hardware BGP? [7:31529]

2002-01-10 Thread Hire, Ejay

Okay, I'll bite.

Situation: If Joe Bob's WebHosting Has a frac ti to provider A and a Frac
t1 to Provider B. Both provider's are providing their own CPE's, and Joe
Bob has convinced them to run BGP with him. Both Isp's want him to peer to
one of there Distribution layer routers via ebgp muilthop.

Assuming JoeBob only accepts the bgp default routes, why should he not use a
160x in this situation?

More realistic situation: JoeBob's company uses vpn services on a cisco
17xx, the 160xs cousin. They implement bgp to their Isp's, because the VPN
connection needs to be there if one of the ISP's fail. Assuming JoeBob only
accepts the bgp default routes, why should he not use a 17xx in this
situation?

I agree that every router is limited in what it can do and how much traffic
it can handle. I do not agree that we should arbitrarily dismiss certain
models of routers without considering the actual need.

2514 supports 2 eth ints.

or you may be able to get two cheap 2501's and string them together via
serial.

I've always wanted to try secondary addressing on 1 interface. The main
would get it's IP via DHCP, and the secondary address would be the private
IP. Always wanted to know if this would work.

Subject: Frame relay map 0.0.0.0 question, please help! CCIE lab is Feb
[7:31555]

I have a frame switch configured for full mesh connectivity over a 3 node
frame relay cloud. Router A and router B cannot use subinterfaces. Router
B and router C can only use thier dlci that connects them to Router A, not
the dlci that connects them to each other. Because the frame switch is set
up as a full mesh, I have disabled inverse arp on router A, B, and C and
have used frame relay map commands with the broadcast parameter on each
router. I am able to ping every router just fine using router A as a hub.
Then I need to enable ospf between all of them. I used the neighbor x.x.x.x
command to enable ospf, but the two spoke routers, B and C, only form adj
with router A, they can not form adj with each other. When I debug ip ospf
adj, I see that routers B and C are sending their poll-intervals? to
0.0.0.0. When I issued a sh frame relay map command, I saw the following
entires:

sh fram map
Serial0/0 (up): ip 0.0.0.0 dlci 503(0x1F7,0x7C70)
  broadcast,
  CISCO, status defined, inactive
Serial0/0 (up): ip 0.0.0.0 dlci 502(0x1F6,0x7C60)
  broadcast,
  CISCO, status defined, inactive
Serial0/0 (up): ip 140.4.1.2 dlci 503(0x1F7,0x7C70), static,
  broadcast,
  CISCO, status defined, inactive
Serial0/0 (up): ip 140.4.1.3 dlci 503(0x1F7,0x7C70), static,
  broadcast,
  CISCO, status defined, inactive

I can not seem to loose the frame maps to 0.0.0.0. They do not show
themselves as being learned dynamically or statically. What do they mean?
How do I get rid of them? How did they get in there? I can not form adj,
please help!!

I answered the entire question in my previous message. Maybe you did not
read past my comment on FF. The gist of my message was that the receiver is
going to process the message serially, one byte at a time. If the Frame
Control field says that this is an LLC frame (with upper-layer data as
opposed to MAC overhead data), then the recipient will assume that the byte
following the Source Address (or Routing Info, if present) is a DSAP,
whether that's what the sender intended or not.

There's no such thing as AC bits. I think you are thinking about the
Address Recognized and Frame Copied bits. Those get set at the MAC layer.
They have nothing to do with LLC which handles DSAPs.

A recipient station sets the address recognized bits at the MAC layer if it
recognizes the frame is for it. The station sets the Frame Copied bits if
it is able to copy the frame, which it should be able to do unless it
doesn't have enough buffer space. (You may want to look into how a bridge
behaves when it forwards frames. Should it set these bits?)

I think you are remembering the question wrong. It doesn't make a lot
sense. It sounds like you're trying to pass the CCIE written test without
first getting a good grounding in networking fundamentals.

Please don't contact me offline. This is the second time I've asked you not
to. Please send questions to the list. Thanks.

You should search for the Token Ring paper by Lou Rossi. It has been
recommended by many people. It might help.

Frame relay map 0.0.0.0 question, please help! CCIE lab is Feb [7:31555]

2002-01-10 Thread Wilson, Christian

I have a frame switch configured for full mesh connectivity over a 3 node
frame relay cloud. Router A and router B cannot use subinterfaces. Router
B and router C can only use thier dlci that connects them to Router A, not
the dlci that connects them to each other. Because the frame switch is set
up as a full mesh, I have disabled inverse arp on router A, B, and C and
have used frame relay map commands with the broadcast parameter on each
router. I am able to ping every router just fine using router A as a hub.
Then I need to enable ospf between all of them. I used the neighbor x.x.x.x
command to enable ospf, but the two spoke routers, B and C, only form adj
with router A, they can not form adj with each other. When I debug ip ospf
adj, I see that routers B and C are sending their poll-intervals? to
0.0.0.0. When I issued a sh frame relay map command, I saw the following
entires:

sh fram map
Serial0/0 (up): ip 0.0.0.0 dlci 503(0x1F7,0x7C70)
  broadcast,
  CISCO, status defined, inactive
Serial0/0 (up): ip 0.0.0.0 dlci 502(0x1F6,0x7C60)
  broadcast,
  CISCO, status defined, inactive
Serial0/0 (up): ip 140.4.1.2 dlci 503(0x1F7,0x7C70), static,
  broadcast,
  CISCO, status defined, inactive
Serial0/0 (up): ip 140.4.1.3 dlci 503(0x1F7,0x7C70), static,
  broadcast,
  CISCO, status defined, inactive

I can not seem to loose the frame maps to 0.0.0.0. They do not show
themselves as being learned dynamically or statically. What do they mean?
How do I get rid of them? How did they get in there? I can not form adj,
please help!!

Re: NPE300 in 7206VXR [7:31534]

2002-01-10 Thread MADMAN

The NPE doesn't have a FE or any port. Do you have a single FE I/O
card? These are pretty stable though you may want to do a bug search on
the IOS your running. Also I wouldn't so quickly reload the router
before trying to reset the interface, do a shut/no shut and grab a show
tech and sh log. I have seen here and there on ethernet interface that
were wedged, the input or output queue would be for example 75/75 or
40/40 which should never happen but when it does the interface says it's
up but nothing works.

RE: NPE300 in 7206VXR [7:31534]

2002-01-10 Thread COULOMBE, TROY

Chris,
Sorta similar probs going on here...

I've been fighting [and so far loosing] with a 7206-npe200/128mb that keeps
dropping ICMP packets from my FWs. The FA is on a PA-FE-TX, but I've also
tried PA-2FEISL-TX...to no avail... like I said, so far I'm loosing... :-.

It's a 2 armed router ATM on the left [Internet] and FA on the right.
Running full BGP routes on the ATM, Running HSRP on the FA
& this is what the CKPT-FW1s [running stonebeat] are pinging [the HSRP
adder].

The FWs don't loose their pings _all the time_ just enough to cause them
to go offline...say, 3x a week.
Sniffed the wire, and sure enough the router just doesn't respond to some of
them...router shows goose-eggs for drops/errors/runts/etc...replaced
cables/PAs/IOSes [now on 12.1.5, 12.0.3, & 12.2.4T] to no avail...

TAC has sent me a new chassis & NPE as the next guess...but I'm not
expecting much outa that "swap out"

let me know if you get anywhere...or thoughts :-)
I'm almost ready to start whispering "Nortel...NortelNortel..." to the
damn thing to see if I can use the fear factor to get him to act right...

I think this will cause confusion. One possible solution is to us 3
for your 288- block of DIDs, then use "num-exp" to map to 288-

Hello,

I've got a question on dial plan. We've got (208)
472- as DID numbers in our campus, I'd like to use
the last 5 digits: 2 in our campus VOIP and 7
digits (no area code) in other offices. In our NY
office, we have (845) 288- as regular DID numbers.
Is it possible to make 288- goes to NY and 2
stays in our campus? Will the beginning number 2
create any conflict?

Thanks in advance.

This exam is probably the easiest of the CCNP exams. You may also want to
pick up the Exam Cram Switching book from Richard Deal. It is inexpensive (I
think $29.95 new, probably around $19.00 or less used at Amazon) I found
this to be an excellent condensed book that covered quite a bit.

Re: Serial Line problems [7:31426]

2002-01-10 Thread Jeff Buehler

This sounds like it may be a 'flag' on the line. Some of these old telco
lines were originally only used for voice, and when a line is re-used the
outside plant tech might just tap into a line leaving a long un-used flag or
tail on the line. This was ok for voice, but for T1 or above it acts line a
huge antannae and causes problems.

One way to verify this is to always run the following BERT patterns before
accepting a circuit for a minimum of 3 minutes each. (or require the telco
to do it for you)

all-ones

Well the hardware matters if you want to receive a full Internet routing

support that.

Tom,
May have found your problem. I do see one error in your route-map statement.
See below:
6.6.6.6
neighbor 10.0.0.17 route-map set_meds out
route-map set_meds permit 10
 match ip address 20

route-map set_med permit 10
 match ip address 21
 set metric 5
!
route-map set_med permit 20

Notice for 9.9.9.9 your neighbor statement is calling a route-map named
set_meds. But, the route-map you have defined is set_med. Fix it and see if
that solves the problem.

RE: Help Please! BGP question, why do I get "Not advertised to [7:31539]

2002-01-10 Thread Kane, Christopher A.

Silly question, is your BGP session up between 9.9.9.9 and the router in AS
100? Can you show me:
sh ip bgp sum
sh ip bgp n x.x.x.x rou
sh ip bgp n x.x.x.x adv
sh ip bgp n x.x.x.x

Would you mind running these on all 3 routers and showing us the output? I'm
interested in finding out what the problem is. If I don't see anything with
the results you give us, I'll lab it up real quick.

Yes, You can terminate 2e1 pri's into an AS5300. Additionally, if it has
MICA modem cards installed, you will be able to answer/negotiate analog and

NPE300 in 7206VXR [7:31534]

2002-01-10 Thread travis marlow

Hi everybody, longtime reader, first time poster. Was wondering if anybody
has had problems with the fastethernet port on the NPE300 for the 7206VXR
platform. Lastnight for some reason the box was not able to ping the other
router that it was connected to via this port. When doing a sh arp it
showed the ip I was trying to ping with a mac of INCOMPLETE. All other
interfaces to this router were up and passing traffic, after doing the magic
"reload", everything was fine. It's weird that this port would just freeze
up, it still said up and up on a sh int before the reload. After talking to
a buddy, he said that they had had issues with using the fastethernet port
on the NPE. I figured I would disseminate this problem to a larger group to
see if anybody else had seen this. Thanks.

Which Cisco router can run BGP? Cisco 1605 can do it?

I never had BGP experience, and I think it depends on IOS version, not

Re: Emergency: PIX 515 password recovery [7:31514]

2002-01-10 Thread David Tran

The answer is a very simple one. What you want to do is to us the
npxx.bin file to erase both the telnet and enable password in the pix.
After that, reboot the pix.

While the pix is rebooting, physically remove the cable on the interface
of the pix that the TACACS uses to talk to the PIX. Now, because the
pix can NOT communicate with TACACS server, it stills prompts for
username and password. This time your username will be "pix" and
password for EXEC mode will be "cisco". After successfully logging
into the pix, the enable mode to get into privilege is just a simple return.

It's as easy as 123

Re: REALLY old ios upgrade [7:31520]

2002-01-10 Thread Paul Lalonde

Steve,

Sounds like an old boot ROM monitor. Simply set the config register to 0x101
and reboot the router. This will allow you to boot from the ROMs and have
access to the flash memory for writing.

Commands are: o/r 0x101
and: i(to re-initialize)

Hope this helps!

How about setup a temporary AAA server with an
user&password and login with that username?
You can use sniffer for the IP address of AAA server
going out the PIX interface.

No, not if you specify how many digits will follow the 2.
Check this link for some general voip stuff

RE: MSFC [7:30668]

2002-01-10 Thread Theo Christopoulos

The choice of running your MSFCs depends on your COMPANY'S POLICIES.
You will need to test the different standby settings for your MSFCs.
With our tests, we noted that both standby techniques had some
nesciences. We decided to stick with running with the MSFC's independent
of each other.

ADVANTAGES of separate MSFCs in one 6509 : Predictable workings of
MSFCs, isolated.

DISADVANTAGES of other Methods : Temporary rooting loops(while updates
were sent from 1 MSFC to the other), loss of configuration, loss of
config changes. Etc. Generally, we could not predict at which state the
MSFCs would be at a particular point in time.

We used EIGRP as the routing protocol of choice. It works well, with the
2 MSFCs in the 6509, providing redundancy between the 2 MSFCs

Hope this helps,

AKI

As soon as you turn on single-router-mode, it will sync up the redundant
MFSC on that switch automatically. Of course this will need to be
performed on every switch that has redundant MFSC's installed. There are
also a few things that have to be checked first i.e. both MSFC's are
running Cisco IOS release 12.1(8a)E2 or later, stuff like that. That
link I sent earlier explains what needs to take place pretty well.

Well I does have two switches. And they both have two MSFC's. So my
question was should the MSFC's have the same config or will it be copy
automaticaly.
