It will be the 3600 series.
2 10/100 Ethernet 2 WAN Card Slot Network Module NM-2FE2W= $3200
Two of these cards would fit in a 3620.
I can't find anything for the 2651. If one of the above cards would work in
it - that might be less expensive. Those cards are not listed for the 2600
series on the reseller pricing page.

If you only the 2610 then you might want to think about selling or
swapping the 2610 for a 2611 instead. It might be cheaper in the long
run.

I found out the hard way last week that any Lan module with the wic
slots are NOT support by Cisco in the 2600 family. I was trying to add
more serial interfaces to my 2621 last week to simulate the ANEW 2 labs.

Cisco says only the NM-1E or NM-4E is support in slot 1 for LAN modules.

My choices were to use either the NM-2W module for my serial interfaces
or to upgrade from the WIC-1T cards to the WIC-2T or WIC-2AS cards or
use my 3640 instead.

Good Luck,

Gang, please forgive me for bringing this to the list. But I am having a
major problem with my household configuration, and I am hoping that you good
people can show me where my mistakes are.

Following is the configuration in question:

Process Home
Wife 1 (she is, after all, number one in my book :->)
Household-budget = ( dollar amount of budget )
Exceed-budget no
Laundry-process regular
Housework-process daily
Dinner-process on-time
Coffee-process hot
Toast-preparation light-with-jam
Refrigerator-status filled-with-food
Pleasurable-activities nightly
Nag off

Since I started this process 15 years ago, it has never seemed to operate
according to this configuration. In fact, it seems that almost every result
is exactly the opposite to what the command states. I'm wondering if someone
has a link someplace to the documentation, so I can correct this
configuration and get my wife-process to operate according to my design. ;->

At first, I configured a transit link with a /24 mask.

Later I thought - gee that's going to be a /29 or /30 in real life so I went
to change it.

However, the router wouldn't accept "network 200.1.1.0 0.0.0.7" under
"router eigrp 10". It fails with the caret pointing at the first zero in
the wildcard mask.

doing a "?" after "network 200.1.1.0" just comes up with a .

However, on CCO I see examples of both statements - some with the mask
others without.

Has the behavior of EIGRP changed lately even so that CCO has conflicting
examples or am I missing some connection?

All routers have ip classless and ip subnet-zero configured.

By the way, my lab scenario has OSPF redistributing the EIGRP. Looking at an
upstream routing table it shows the EIGRP network as a /29 even though there
is no "mask" in the statement.

So what am I missing?

IP Access lists

2000-12-19 Thread Jason Baker

you are correct.

standard access lists generally are placed as close to destination as
possible
as they are least specific (meaning you filter on Src of traffic only),
and you do not want to make errors and block out
necessary traffic if placed incorrectly, however this means you will have
more traffic
generally on your network.

Whereas extended access lists you can be really specific on type of traffic,
and
source and destination IP's therefore they are placed close to the source so
unnecessary
traffic does not travers the network.
i am speaking generally. This does change for your network topology

RE: To summary or Not to summary and all that jazz

2000-12-19 Thread Jason Baker

the purpose of summarization to to reduce the amount of routes in
your routers routing table.

This is done by adding a summary route for "consecutive blocks of IP's".

in your example the later 4 networks are all consecutive and can be replaced
with the one summarized route. The first network is stand alone.

hope that helps :).

Hi,

I'm not sure if this helps but running ISL on the trunk ports increases the
the packet size beyond 1500 bytes. This can produce a CRC error. Whilst
the error exists however the data still goes through ok.

You can check this by doing an extended ping and lifting the packet size to
beyond 1486 bytes.

Hey,

First off, I'm not too familiar with Cisco 3500 xl switches. I configured a
switch with 3 VLANs, I assigned an IP address to each VLAN, I also added the
necessary ports in each VLAN.
After everything is said and done the 3rd VLAN (servers) didn't have
connectivity to the other VLANs.
I couldn't find a command to allow me to assign a default route to each
VLAN.

Does anyone have any ideas how I can make the VLAN's work?

Consider the above OSPF network. You have configured a virtual path to
connect Area 3 with Area 0. What is your assessment of this network?

 1. The network will work. However, you must configure a second
virtual link through router B to ensure there are no routing loops.

2. The network will not work. Area 3 must be directly connected to
Area 0.

3.The network will work properly with no redundant hops.

4.network will work. However, it contains sub-optimal routing as
packets from router D to router C must transit router A

5.network will not work. A routing loop exists as packets destined
for router C from router D must pass through router C twice.

Thanks in advance.

i thought the in the foundation exam you have to pass all areas
in order to pass the exam so if you are for say weaker on BCRAN
than switching you would not pass.
(assuming 70 % is pass)

eg 95 % routing
80 % switching
65 % BCRAN = FAIL

75 % routing

75 % BCRAN = PASS

Eric

I thought about doing the same, and the idea that weaker subjects would be
averaged out by stronger ones, was a consideration. I decided that, as I was
going to go on to CCIE then I needed to iron out the weaker areas rather
than effectively hide them.
The difficulty of trying to find my strong subjects may also have affected
the decision :-)
At least doing it the long way, I know that I've got a fair spread of
knowledge on all the areas covered by the multiple CCNP exams.

7MB. I tried canabalizing another 2511 I had and adding it's 4MB to the 1st
routers 4MB making what I believed to be 8MB. But when I tried to tftp the

What do I need to do to get the flash blended together to act as 1 8MB?

do a show interface on the specific interfaces on both routers
for a first step in trooubleshooting your problem

another step would be to check the token ring speed that

check for errors both in and out
maybe cut and paste the results...

You mentioned that you have an access-list allowing port 53 for tcp or udp
but the question is are you filtering the response that is coming back from
the DNS server. Do you have access-lists filtering traffic coming from that
direction? It will be responding to a dynamic port number (it's destination
won't be 53, it'll be whatever your computer decides) so I don't know a way
to include that into an access-list unless you can force your computer to
always use a certain port when performing DNS queries (which is something
that I don't know how to setup).

Subject: RE: BCMSN Hex- IP to MAC

I actually have another method that might work better for some of you. After
having played with hex/bin numbers for almost 15 years, there are some
patterns and tricks that comes alive.

Designing sprites on my Commodore 64 and Amiga 2000 and new characters on my
PC, has filled my head with some of those reappearing numbers, so if you can
memorize the value of the sixteen combinations for the first four left bits
the right four bits should be pretty easy to figure out.

First of all, if you have to bits set that has a bit between them, it will
give a "nice" number.

For example 1010 is 128+32=160, 0101 is 64+16=80, and a combination
of both is 240. That already gives you three combinations to
memorize.

Then there's the situations where only one bit out of the left four is set :
128, 64, 32 and 16. They should be fairly easy to remember too, and now
you're almost halfway there.

When you look at all sixteen combinations:

    : 0 00
0001 : 16 10
0010 : 32 20
0011 : 48 30
0100 : 64 40
0101 : 80 50
0110 : 96 60
0111 : 112 70
1000 : 128 80
1001 : 144 90
1010 : 160 A0
1011 : 176 B0
1100 : 192 C0
1101 : 208 D0
1110 : 224 E0
    : 240 F0

You can again see that it's simply the 16 scale, and if you remember those
16 numbers, it should be easy to subtract it from the original number which
gives you the right four bits.

Furthermore, if you write the above table down on your plastic board before
you start your test, you should be able to convert it in seconds.

Example 178:

1) You look in the table and see that 176 which is B0 is the closest equal
or less than 178.
2) 178 minus 176 is 2 so now you have your result B2.

Yeah but you would still have to divide the 8 bit decimal up in two 4 bit
decimals before you can use your memorization, unless you want to memorize
all 256 combinations in decimal, hex and binary - and maybe octal's too :-)

I just memorize the table - it works a lot faster

we all know what 1-9 is in binary, or can count it up easily.

A=1010=10

write it down on the paper before you start the test. refer to it when

Cool trick. Hadn't seen that one before. As I look at it, it actually does
the same thing as the method I posted, but skips the binary conversion step
(splitting the one octet into two quartets is equivalent to dividing by 16).

RE: Static route does not appear in routing table

2000-11-15 Thread Jason Baker

well what i think the problem is that the routing protocol is not
redistributing the static routes.

to distribute them.
eg

ip route 10.10.10.0 255.255.255.0 0.0.0.1

router eigrp 30
redistribute static route-map static-routes
.
.
.
route-map static-routes permit 10
match ip address static-routes
.
.
.
ip access-list standard static-routes
remark 10 network
permit 10.10.10.0 255.255.255.0

this is of course to redistribute specifi static routes and not others.

or simply you could do

router eigrp 30
redistibute static

Greetings,

I'm using dialer profiles for DDR configuration. I can successfully setup
the ISDN call and interfaces are up/up on both ends.

However, I'm getting an "encapsulation failed" message when trying to ping
the remote interface IP address. This is obviously the failure of the router
to get a MAC address for the dialer interface.

Using dialer profiles, I do not need dialer map statements. However, when I
issue "sh dialer map", there are no entries indicating that dynamic map
statements are not being generated.

Any ideas?

The caller is a 1604 running 11.2(8)P and the called is a 3640 running
12.0(8).

Re: 2610 w/ an additional 1e 2w module [7:3402]

2001-05-06 Thread Jason Baker

If you check the cisco site you will find that the 1E2W does nto work in a
2600 series.
The only ethernet modules you can put in a 2600 series is a NM-1E or a
NM-4E.

The 1e2w will work in 3600 series though.

Re: 2610 w/ an additional 1e 2w module [7:3402]

2001-05-06 Thread Jason Baker

also another tip. The WIC 2-T modules do not work in plain ethernet based
modules (such as 1e2w).
You need to get a 1FE2W at least to put the WIC 2t-s in.

However the wic 2-t's will work in the fixed serial slots in the 2600's.

Re: Having problem with tftp to flash : URGENT [7:3455]

2001-05-07 Thread Jason Baker

flash card has no IOS image on it.
so the router is trying to boot from flash card but cannot find IOS image on
it.

if you have another router running copy IOS to flash card.

But looking from your config you are using a 2600 and from memory they do
not use flash cards

then again i could be wrong.

Jason Baker

2001-05-08 Thread Jason Baker

If you want to use your 2600 as frame relay switch do as i have done buy a
NM-4a/s, 4t, 8a/s or 8/t.

A 1fe2w only works in 3600.

Sounds to me that ISP 2 does not have the correct BGP setup to advertise
your real IP's
in the case of ISP 1 falling over or problems with link to ISP 1.

Re: Don't buy from OneSource Was Don't buy from IQ [7:17225]

2001-08-25 Thread Jason Baker

As i have said i have had no problems with babyjake or IQSale
but the person i am very weary of is datacomequipment / Datacom
as they have several user names they use on ebay.

The make out they are good saying we sent items etc. Make you pay out for
your
tradenable service as they say they support it, when it comes down to the
crunch
they are bad news! Thank god for services such as tradenable otherwise i
would have been out
of pocket 1600 AU dollars. And by the looks of his ratings etc a leopard
cannot change it's spots
they are back to their old tricks.

Buyers beware.. Use tradenable or other services wherever you can, also
covers you against dud items sent.

make sure you enable ip cef.

and there is a rate limiting problem which is reolved by 12.1(2)

This is a snip of a config that will limit the IP Address defined in the
access list (105) to 128k on the Ethernet Interface.

!
interface Ethernet0
 ip address 10.1.1.1 255.255.255.0
 rate-limit input access-group 105 128000 128000 128000 conform-action
transmit exceed-action drop
 rate-limit output access-group 105 128000 128000 128000 conform-action
transmit exceed-action drop
!
access-list 105 permit ip any host 10.1.1.2
access-list 105 permit ip any host 10.1.1.10
!

Hope it helps

Hi

Has anyone worked with traffic-shape command on interfaces?
I checked it with an ethernet interface it seems it doesn't
work. Actually it restricts the traffic but not to the rate
I gave. Is it possible to use it on serial interfaces as well?

Subject: Please Help

To all,

I am in need of some help. I have a 3640 router that is new. We got a 4
port ethernet module for it and a Network module that holds 2 WAN
interfaces. Put the ethernet module in and the IOS sees it and everything
is fine. Put the 2-port serial module in and nothing happens. Thought
module was bad so got a replacement today. Inserted the 2 WAN cards in the
new module and placed in router. Still nothing, does not see the WAN cards.

So then i placed the ethernet module in the same slot the WAN module was
in to make sure that slot works and it does. So then I took the 2 WAN cards

out of the module and put them in 2 spare 2600's we have to make sure that
they work, and they do. So this leaves me with this question. Is there
something that I must do to get the 3640 to recognize this Network Module
with the 2 WAN cards in it or by some strange luck did I just get 2 bad
Network Modules and should try and order a 3rd new one.

Thanks for your help

Steve

Subject: subinterfaces

hey guys,

I was wondering how to apply subinterfaces. I have 1 ether port on my router
(1600) and need 2 links to the switch. One for public IP and the other for
private IP.

I type in "int e0.1", then "ip add x.x.x.x mask" but I get this instead,

"Configuring IP routing on a LAN subinterface is only allowed if that
subinterface is already configured as part of an IEEE 802.10 or ISL vLAN."

I don't know why this won't work and further more I can't seem to remove the
subinterface. I type in (no int e0.1) but I still see the interface when I
do a (sh ip in b).

"Ethernet0.1 unassigned YES manual deleted
down"

It's marked as deleted but how do I get rid of it entirely?

How do I configure subinterfaces and how do I remove them?

Tanks for the help.

Why does it say "Mismatch area"?
