You've not said what OS you are using. There have been some problems with ALAC decoders, I think. As a test you could try ripping or transcoding an album or two to FLAC or WAV and check that this is ok. Also, when you try to play something, do you get an error, or does the SB look like it thinks its playing something? Just thought I would add my h'pennies worth. Being new to the SS/SB world, I am still blown away by the concept. The fundamental principals of the system design is excellent. In keeping with the design philosophy I think audio quality should away be kept at the fore. You can buy any number of lofi systems to play music. But to have a hifi solution is brilliant. There are those of us (and mostly in this forum!) who place the quality and pleasure of musical presentation above gimmicks. However, easy of use needs to be addressed. I would love to see development with the Server web page. Drag and drop editing for playlists for one - I find the current method far too clunky. The other thing is a stop key on the remote to compliment the play, pause, ff, rwd keys. Maybe I am doing something wrong, but sometimes I just want to stop the music, which I can do from the web interface, but not the SB. Well, I'm feeding this post all by myself... I think I've find out why the stats would decrease... I checked which artists where missing, and they all have only a few tracks, no entire album. So I went in the settings to find if something could be responsible for this behaviour, and I did find such an option in the (newly installed) trackstat plugin. There are minimum numbers of songs for an -artist -album to be shown, and a minimum duration for the songs. You may be onto something for the minimum and maximum duration of songs, and I'm not sure that it is only a Track stat issue. MusicIP imposes both a minimum and maximum track length time below / above which it will not analyse the music. I have a couple of very short clips (loops) that aren't analysed or mixable, and some very long mix albums that are the same. According to the MIP forums, at least 135 seconds is needed to analyse the track fingerprint, and analysis is disabled by default on tracks over 15 minutes. I wonder if the fact that these are in the database, but aren't analysed or mixable could account for the library discrepencies ? Well, I checked this too. But I've 13 non-mixables tracks in MM, and only 5 tracks not shown in SS. And this certainly doesn't explain the 19 artists missing. I checked what artists were missing (I only found 18, but that maybe my mistake, reading 2 lists of about 240 names) and they are artists with only a few songs and no album of their own. I'd like to see the display in a rotate-able section in the end of the Squeezebox, so you can have it in the end like the SB 1/2 or rotate it round the side like the SB3. I know peaople want both, hell make the display a slim removable module that could be extended and remote mounted (or replaced with other types of display). I'd like clock input/output on the unit, this would make proper impementation of digital easier, as out home theatre systems get more complex I see soon people will be trying to clock all their devices off a master clock. should not be a big issue to implement either. The reason is that SlimServer sends files to the player not starting at the beginning but at the start of the audio data, since there may be lots of tag data in front. This is partly to support the legacy players I believe. [slim] Sound breaking up and distorting
Until last night, everything was working just fine. Now, several seconds after I start playing any track, the sound distorts and breaks up severely. I'm guessing that the several seconds delay might be something to do with a cache emptying somewhere, but why the sudden symptoms. The bandwidth figures shown in Slimserver (and my broadband connection) all seem OK. I'm using FLAC files and streaming these as .wav, letting the PC do the conversion rather than the Squeezebox. Anyone experienced similar symptoms ? If you are streaming WAV that's pretty much worst case for the wireless network - perhaps you have a new source of interference nearby? Try setting the server to allow it to send FLAC streams instead of WAV, that's a little bit easier ... or a different wireless channel. Let's face it, if you want to show off your SB/Transporter, you show people the device and the Web IF. The first looks good, the second looks somewhat clunky. It might not be such a bad idea to add Airport Express compatibility to the SB/Transporter firmware. It's another feature to put on the box and could be quite handy in some situations. Or wait, I take that back. A Windows or OS/X sound device driver that can talk directly to a Slim Device would probably be best. What turned out to be the problem was that the Norton personal firewall that came installed on my computer was blocking internet access for 6.5.1, after the upgrade had been made. Sorry for the Coup de geule but it becomes a love hate feeling but more important it's so time consuming, sometimes i just want to use my cd player again and just get rid of the thing (and i just spent 2 months every night riping my entire cd collection). Anyway, thanks for all the people trying to help around here, even if i still dont know why this fuc... 6.5.1 doesn't play alac files. -- damned006 damned006's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5148 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=31941 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

So, I checked how slimservers creates it's own m3u, when calling long media files with cue sheets. [slim] Re: Getting rid of slimserver
Are people really having trouble with Slimserver keeping up with 500 albums? Seems that there would a problem Other than Slimserver to cause that. I have 14,000 songs that Slimserver can access and it never has a problem. The only slowness I ever see is when I initially browse my music via album cover. Slimserver will be a little sluggish for a bit (15 seconds) but then it is fine. It seems some on this thread want a swiss army knife approach to their music. One program to do everything. As a long, long time computer user I have found that rarely is this approach a good one. I think Nero is a good example. Their recent release has everything but the kitchen sink (and it is in there somewhere I suspect)IMO the program is bloated and the extras they have crammed into the program are not as good as separate programs that can be bought elsewhere. The sad fact is most of the features software companies put in the programs are never used. They do it to justify an upgrade I like the fact that Slimserver does its job and does it well. Just like EAC and mp3tag. Few of us can do a lot of things well. Better to focus on what we can do well and excel at it. I like software that takes the same approach. Same with ZoneAlarm, I used to like it but when they started bundling anything and everything with it, it started getting unstable for me. Core competency - let programs do what they do best and don't combine them. EAC's core competency is ripping. SlimServer's is serving audio to Squeezeboxes. Do not put ripping functionality in SlimServer - it'll never be as good as EAC and you just end up increasing the bloat and instability. Not much new for me to add, but wanted to be another voice in the chorus of people looking for a slick ui on the computer side. In an ideal world iTunes would be able to actually drive the squeezebox since millions of iPod users have made it the most widely accepted standard out there (itunes isn't perfect, but it's close for the vast majority of users). Related to the above point I'd like to see some way to initiate a limited rescan on specific items. For instance if I've just corrected a tag in some way I'd like to ask Slimserver to rescan that album rather than just generically telling it to look for new and changed music and waiting for it to finish. Would love to see Logitech also take on improving the Nokia 770 skin as a full time job - I've been watching that develop and it's nearly at a point where I'm considering picking up a Nokia 800 (or maybe a UMPC). Try their $2 day pass thing and see if it works. -- snarlydwarf snarlydwarf's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1179 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32011 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Re: lesson Learned with RAID 5 Implementation
an unfortunate way to learn about the vulnerability of RAID. my two cents: I'm a television editor and the use of raids for storing and quickly accessing massive amounts of video/audio media is commonplace. what's also commonplace is Raids failing. Every company I've ever worked for has gone through failed raid arrays. In television, the media on the raid drives is always expendable and therefore we don't back it up. the source tapes can always be re-digitized if something goes wrong with the computer. but with personal media it's very different. It sounds dull but being paranoid and contantly backing up personal media is a must for peace of mind and to minimize the headaches when those drives eventually fail you. -- exile exile's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4579 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=31963 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Use either the Tune in URL from the web interface and enter the proper URL (which should be something like: http://username:[EMAIL PROTECTED]/whatever .. thats basic HTTP authentication). You can also add those stations to your Favorites from the player itself (pressing the right arrow). You could also make a playlist that had your station in it. -- snarlydwarf snarlydwarf's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1179 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32011 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I use my di.fm premium all the time. There is nothing to setup. There are 2 ways to do this: 1: right-click save the stream link to a file and save the file in your playlists dir on your slimserver and hit rescan. 2: right-click save the stream link to a file and open it with a text editor and copy/paste the link with your username/password into the tune in URL option from the slimserver homepage. -- SuperQ SuperQ's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2139 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32011 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I'm telling SlimServer to use iTunes instead of scanning the library manually...I'll try bookmarking it in my iTunes library and if that works then it should be easy to use on the Squeezebox, right? -- Meatwad650 Meatwad650's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9725 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32011 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
