Hoping that someone from Logitech is reading and can give me some tips on which NAS boxes to look at. This is probably best discussed in the Third Party board. Remember that SC7 isn't released yet - presumeably this will be linked to the release of the new hardware products in some way. Third parties that have to do integration or testing will always take a while to catch up - that's the price you pay for having someone else do that work for you. Took me two days to get caught up with this thread! Respectfully; lot's of you guys are audiofile nerds, which is great/fine. Let me tell you, the Duet, out of the box, is a great thing for the rest of mankind. I've been struggling with a Cd30 WIFI system for the last couple of years. When if works, it's fine, but still you have no Wifi remote and my amp that powers all these indoor and outdoor speakers is on the first story. We basically live on and listen to most of the music on the second story. The new controller will enable us to access and control the music for the first time. We can't wait. With the Cd30, I had their software running continously on the downstairs computer with about 50GB's of music on it. The Crown amp runnig the whole house stereo/speakers is controlled by an X10 electrical switch with remote from anywhere around the house. Whenever you want to listen to music, you just turn of the amp via X10 remote (which are cheap) Sound quality if just fine for this system as I'm not trying for anything but background music as we go about our day or for parties. Thanks for all the great posts, I learned tons and will buy the Duet as soon as it's avaialbe. Re: [slim] using a different computer to scan library
aubuti;260213 Wrote: Is there a way to scan the music library on a computer other than the one that is running SS/SC? I vaguely recall some posts about this from back around the time the scanner was split off to a separate process in SS 6.5.0, but I can't find them now. The idea is that my main SC machine is a Buffalo LinkStation, which streams just fine but takes almost an hour to scan my ~4000 track library of FLAC. I also have SC on a new-ish Lenovo laptop running Ubuntu that scans that same library on the LS in less than 8 minutes (*and that's over the network*, versus the local scan the LS is taking an hour to do). Sometimes it would be convenient to do the scan on the Lenovo, and then copy the necessary files over to the LS. Can this be done, and if so, how? TIA. I suppose it could be done by scanning and copying the database files over to the other computer (shutting down both SlimServer and MySQL while copying). But that'd be pretty ugly and more than a little prone to problems. Better would be to export the MySQL database using mysqldump.exe on the Lenovo and then import the dump into MySQL on the LinkStation. Better yet would be to have the scanner running on the Lenovo directly access the database running on the Linkstation. Probably will be a little slower than running everything on the Lenovo, but you'll have to see. Never done this myself, but... First, you'll need to be sure the MySQL server on the LinkStation is accessible from other computers, not just from the LinkStation. You could test it by using something like SQLyog ('download' (http://www.webyog.com/en/download_form.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.webyog.com%2Fdownloads%2FSQLyog615.exe)). You'll need the IP address of the server, the MySQL port (standard is 3306), the database name (probably slimserver), the MySQL user name (again, probably slimserver) and the password (by default, blank). Then create a prefs files for the scanner.pl on the Lenovo that references the database on the LinkStation. Copy the current prefs file to another folder, then edit it, changing the lines for the database connection that look something like: Code: dbpassword: somepassword dbsource: dbi:mysql:hostname=127.0.0.1;port=3306;database=slimserver dbusername: slimserver Enter all the specifics for the LinkStation MySQL database for SlimServer. Then run the scanner.pl on the Lenovo with the /prefsdir switch pointing at the folder holding the new prefs file. If you run scanner.pl with no arguments on the Lenovo it will display syntax and additional command line options for things like logging and debugging.
Better would be to export the MySQL database as dump/backup on the Lenovo and then import it into MySQL on the LinkStation. Better yet would be to have the scanner running on the Lenovo directly access the database running on the Linkstation. Probably will be a little slower than running everything on the Lenovo, but you'll have to see. First, you'll need to be sure MySQL server on the LinkStation is accessible from other computers, not just from the LinkStation. You could test it by using something like SQLyog ('download' (http://www.webyog.com/en/download_form.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.webyog.com%2Fdownloads%2FSQLyog615.exe)) -- JJZolx Jim JJZolx's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42425 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Help with server software and weird setup.
If it wasn't clear you need to have Squeezecenter* installed on laptop A, and then enable/install Softsqueeze as Schatzy noted. You should now be able to play your music library on the stereo if the laptop is connected to it. I'm not sure exactly how you iTunes fits in, but there are options for configuring it in the setup wizard IIRC. * This is the beta version, but you may as well get used to the interface as it will be released with and required by the Duet. http://www.slimdevices.com/downloads/nightly/latest/7.0/ The Windows Executable file will work with WinXP. The good news is you don't need to install SqueezeCenter on laptop B. You can control the Softsqueeze laptop with laptop B by opening a web browser and going to http://Laptop A's IP:9000. You can get Laptop A's IP by going to Settings at the bottom right of SC, and looking in the Status panel. It should look something like http://192.168.1.34:9000. schatzy;259463 Wrote: Sometimes it takes a little while (sometimes as much as a day or more) to get someone on the forum that knows the answer to your question. Most cable internet connections have a slower speed of upload than they do of download. Like my cable connection at my house has a download speed of up to 15MB sec (usually runs about 12MB) while the upload speed is only 768KB (usually runs around 680KB). You can check this at http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/ Click on one of the cities nearest you and when it has finished it will give you two numbers one is the download speed the second is the upload speed. If your upload speed is less than 800KB you may have a problem, especially trying to run two streams. Also does your wife find that it is a certain time of day that this happens like shortly after school lets out? I know in my neighborhood when school lets out and all the children arrive home the upload and download speeds go down dramatically. This is caused by the amount of traffic on the system. The more traffic the slower everyone gets. Also what is the streaming bit rate? I have tried to stream 360kbs tracks and it does not work well even on the 768 upload because of the overhead data that is required. Anyway most (if not all) of the major record companies are abandoning DRM and allowing sites such as iTunes and amazon.com to sell non DRM MP3 files. I am actually more concerned about the fact that very few download sites offer lossless music files for mainstream music. I can not see this situation changing either, with so many people owning iPods and happily downloading MP3s, there is nothing to encourage iTunes, amazon and the other big download sites to offer lossless files. Resetting the sb3 (by holding down the remote on/off button) just means that it resets and fails to connect to slimserver (rest of networking is ok though). I will also use the followong algorithm; If an artist performed more than half of the songs and also features in the other songs (with other artist featuring) that that artist is marked as Album Artist. Finally when all this is done the total recordset will have a trustfull Album Artist column which can be sorted on. I think this will work quiet well and even eliminate the use for specifying the compilation folder. But this will cost some time though to implement and test so bare with me on that one please. I would also like to ask which new features you would like to see implemented? I'll collect them all and see which are implemented in the next version. Anyway, thx guys(/girls?) for your support of ACC so far... Re: [slim] manual for Controller
I wonder how you input text to perform a search function. No clue on that wiki page. It's still not in the wiki but here's a screenshot. +---+ |Filename: jive0006.jpg | |Download: http://forums.slimdevices.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4114| +---+ -- Skunk http://www.last.fm/user/TheSkunk/ Skunk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2685 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42355 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I change the SS to log on as user and then use x:\music as the folder, SS still stored everything in the database as \\n2100\itunes\music...so no joy there What brand of NAS do you have? Also does it have its own software to set up the network drive letter. The reason I ask is that I have a Buffalo Link Station here this weekend and it has it's own software that it uses to set it up and set the drive letter it uses. I find that it does exactly as you stated above it drops teh mapped letter. I forced a mapping through windows and it worked correctly and showed the drive letter in the path. Re: [slim] using a different computer to scan library
Thanks for the ideas and the details. I'll give it a try. Presently I'm mounting the LinkStation shares on the Ubuntu via smbfs, and specifying the library location as a directory (/mnt/music/) rather than going via UNC. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=42425 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I would love to see it optionally seek out any missing album artwork. Thank for all the hard work. Re: [slim] Announce: Album Catalog Creator for SlimServer
Just to let you know; i'm looking into the possibility to add NAS support to ACC by adding the option to enter the path to the NAS and the drive letter used in windows so ACC can do the substitution automatically and find the albumcovers like it is supposted to.
