Re: [Flexradio] Flex 3000 no headset sound or power after reinstalling Windows 10

2016-05-21 Thread Dudley Hurry
Darryl,

I suspect you are missing part of the FireWire driver, leave the radio off,
remove the FlexRadio driver in the Programs and features, REBOOT the computer,
rerun the PowerSDR installer, REBOOT , be sure the computer is completely
rebooted , then turn the radio on . Be sure to wait long enough for all
three drivers to install, 3 or 4 minutes , best to check the FW driver that all
is ok.Or start PowerSDR.

Good luck. ,

Re: [Flexradio] Persistence and DAX issues -6300

2015-09-01 Thread Dudley Hurry
Paul,

Your DAX not being consistent maybe the way windows enumerates the sound
devices when Windows boots. You need a speaker in the Playback properties of
Sound Properties and a line in or mic in the Record , this is just to keep
default sounds off the DAX drivers. If you don't have something plugged into
your sound card, just put a blank plug there, Windows doesn't care , as long
as something is there.

On some of the latest versions of Wsjt , open a second slice, have an A and B
slice available. Seems WSJT is always looking for VFO A and B. If you use
TS2000 or Ts480, either one works for me. It hangs and fails the CAT Test
mode otherwise.

The SDR1000 did not have the built-in signal generator that was on the

Guys,

Rather than use the NR, I use the AGC-t gain, much more effective than any

Travis,

You should not need a isolator with the ALS500, but measure it instead ,
should not be more than 50 volts at 100 ma. check it to be sure.

BTW - warning! The FlexWire connector is NOT a Serial connection, if you
connect a serial cable to that connector you can cause serious damage to the
radio!Always start with a blank DB-9 connector, wrong two pins shorted,
will damage the radio, please consult the wiring diagram for the connections...

Rick,

The HF output bridges work normally, there no RF measurement of the the
VHF/UHF module. There are two bridges in the 5000 with the ATU , one is
mounted on the ATU itself and the one reporting in PowerSDR , forward and
reverse in the TX Metering. If the ATU is not reporting in the ATU menu,
The radio needs to go back to FlexRadio for repair. I would not try to remove

Re: [Flexradio] [FlexEdge] PowerSDR v2.3.5 - Some new feature info

2012-02-26 Thread Dudley Hurry

Jim,

Some of what you are asking is already there, but one for sure is a
Windows issue and not something that Flex can correct, keeping the
mouse focused on the Frequency, this is a MS issue.. There are
several ways to try to get around it, and there is a Wiki article about
this too.

http://flexradiowiki.com/frsradoiowiki/index.php?title=Mouse_hover_focus-shift

Or you can use the FlexControl knob, which can stay focused.

PowerSDR should already remember the last size and position of you
video, unless your video driver likes to reset everything, and start it
on the 1st or Windows screen.

I think that all the values windows are where you can highlight and type
in the value, even the DDS, even faction of a value.. Try it..By
the way, on the sliders, if you move your cursor just to the right or
left of the slider button itself, left click, then the slider will only
move one digit value for each click..

Maybe this will make your short list even shorter.. hi hi

Subject: Re: [FlexEdge] PowerSDR v2.3.5 - Some new feature info

I have a few "Nits" to pick. For sure, these are completely in the "Nit"
category and are mentioned more as suggestion, not as a complaint.

Before I consider making a few "feecher" requests, I would like to run this
past the crowd to see just how nuts I really am!

1. I use multiple monitors. I would like to make PSDR come up in FULL
screen mode. It fits one monitor nicely. The 16 x 9 or 10 monitor aspect
ratio seems to be the new standard.

2. I like to bring up the Voltage / Temp. display and leave it. (My shack
is VERY dusty and the&^%$%^ cat sheds - I need a warning on the fan!) A
command line parameter perhaps?

3. Expert mode needs to be "Sticky" or something like that. Maybe red text,
or just make the warning highly visible.

4. Mouse wheel ALLWAYS on the frequency even when mouse is elsewhere (until
focus is changed anyway)causes me minor disasters. Mouse can be focused on
a slider and wheel will move slider one click and then go back to frequency.
It does not seem consistent. I will re-research this and make list.

5. There are a number of setup values that can only be incremented /
decremented by 5 or 10, a rather mixed blessing here. DDS offset and
Waterfall background come to mind.

Again, I want to stress these are NOT serious to me. These are just areas
that would make a GREAT product even better here.

Re: [Flexradio] New Flex 3000 Owner

Michael,

Windows tends to shutdown devices not being used, and slow processors
down. If you go to Windows Control panel, then to Power Options,
set for "High Performance" .. Disable any screen savers..

Try this, it helps on some Win7 and Vista systems.

Re: [Flexradio] Recording and playing back a frequency spectrum

2012-01-07 Thread Dudley Hurry

John,

Your question is just a little vague as to what you are needing to do..

I presume that you are wanting to record the incoming I/Q to a wave file..

Go to the Wave Menu at the top of PowerSDR,
Open the "Options" in the upper left corner of the Wave Menu
Make sure the buttons have "Pre-Processed" for RX and "Post-Processed"
for TX

Now when you are ready, tuned to your frequency , click the Record in
the Wave menu.

Do not move the VFO while recording, it will make it hard to follow
when you play it back. The sample rate size will determine the
bandwidth recorded.. Remember that the larger the Sample rate in the
Wave, the more disk space the recording will use.

When you click the Stop, it will tell you where and what name
(frequency/time/date stamp) .

The transmit level refers to Playback level while you are keyed up with
either Mox or PTT for audio play back over the air..

Hope this helps.

Re: [Flexradio] It was a fine day today, until...

2011-12-31 Thread Dudley Hurry

Ralph,

Are you closing PowerSDR before turning the radio off? The memory.xml
file is held open until PowerSDR is closed, and PowerSDR may not close
if communications to the radio is lost.. When this happens, the
memory.xml and the database.xml may not write back correctly. So
always, stop and close PowerSDR before turning the radio off.

dipole, and high winds had worked the wire at a pulley just enough to work
harden the wire and cause it to snap.

After repairing the wire and hoisting it in back place, I returned to the
Shack and cranked up the F5K to check the antenna. After starting PSDR, I
found that the memory.xml file had been trashed once again.  It was blank;
all 30 or so entries were gone.

So off it went to my backup directory, and copied the backup memory.xml file
to the working directory. I restarted PSDR, and guess what - the file was
trashed again. Rinse and repeat a couple of more times, throw in a computer
reboot or two just for grins, and still the file gets trashed about every
third time it is accessed and then closed.

I finally resorted to making the memory.xml file read only, which solved the
trashing problem, but, of course, PSDR now complains bitterly about the fact
that it cannot "touch" the file every time either the memory form or PSDR
itself is closed. But dealing with the error message is easier than
replacing the file every time PSDR decides to eat it for lunch.

Is there a fix in the pipeline?

Maybe?

Hopefully?

Also reset the database. Since you can't get to the setup menu to set the

the "Radio Chooser" menu again hold the left shift key and click your

Larry,

You will find the FlexControl drivers in the PowerSDR install folder..

Just open Windows Device manager, find the unknown USB device, Right
click and update driver, Browse to the

C:\Program Files (x86)\FlexRadio Systems\PowerSDR
v2.2.3\FlexControlI64folder, for the 64bit version of PSDR.. This
should install the correct drivers for you..If you still do not have
FlexControl folders, uninstall PowerSDR2.2.3 , when re-installing ,
make sure to check the FlexControl box..

When you first connect the FC all the lights will come on, then go
out. Once PSDR 2.1.5 or later is started, then the first two lights
will come on..

This should get you going.. If not, enter a Support Ticket at

Re: [Flexradio] 2.1.5 was working - fatal error now

2011-07-26 Thread Dudley Hurry

Zack,

Might be the memory.xml file is bad...Go to Windows Run ,
type %AppData%and click Run.. This should take you to your
Appdata folder, then select the FlexRadio Systems folder. In that
folder there is a memory.xml and a master.xml file.Rename the
Memory file to something else, may be memoryold.xml.. Restart
PowerSDR, it should recreate the memory file.. If that does correct
it, how about sending your old file back to me at

Ted,

If you are running Win7 or Vista, make sure to have the Windows Power

better, the FlexRadio FW driver should be able to run in Normal

You need your VHF antenna connected to the VHF -144 port. When you
engage the Vhf/Uhf modules, there are separate antennas for each,
you should see who is connected to who on the far side above the

It's really easy with WWV (or you can use any other high calibrated
signal) , go to the Calibration tab of Setup, page 132 of the current
Owners Guide, click the Expert box, with a good signal on WWV, at
least a S5 on the meter, be sure to match the frequency box to the WWV

Re: [Flexradio] v.2.0.22 startup problems

2011-07-14 Thread Dudley Hurry

Rod,

Are earlier versions running ok? Reason I ask, you are below the
minimum CPU to run PowerSDR, not that it can't work, but it is going
to be pretty marginal . If previous versions were 2.x versions, try
holding the left shift key, while double clicking PowerSDR, this
should bring up the Reset Database message, click OK...If it still
refuses to come up, remove the Master.xml file in the FlexRadio System
folder under your user name/ appdata folder.. Actually I would like
to get a copy of either the database file or master file which ever
corrects the issue..

So try your previous version to see if that still works ok..

Matt and others,

I have read all in the thread, my one addition is that I noticed that you
are running VAC 4.10. There were and has been timing and buffering issues
that degrade over time with the 4.10 version.. You might want to try the
4.09 version instead, and you will need the signed version for the 64 bit
OS..As Tim had said, you need to make sure the Windows default settings
for Virtual line 1 and 2 are set to 48K, otherwise there might be some up
conversions causing issues...

As Neil said, be sure to check the Mixer menu and that the Mic is checked..
Then move the TX meter to Mic, this will be the first mic audio stage,

gain..

As some else said, if you are using a computer type of mic, most do need a
bias to work, there is one Knowledge Center article that gives a circuit

Re: [Flexradio] Strange issues with 5K

2011-07-01 Thread FlexRadio Support, Dudley Hurry
Jack,

Sounds like you need to re-run the Receiver Image Test in the Production
menu..Most of the time when first loading 2.0.22, it will run the Image
test first thing, but does not tell you that you must remove the antennas..
So do this to re-run the test.

Good to start with a reset on the database on PowerSDR 2.0.22 or set to
Factory Defaults, with all the antennas removed, PowerSDR up and started,
do a ctrl - shift - P on the keyboard.Once in the Production
Test, click on the Receiver Image Button on the left hand side. The
test will set through all the bands to run the Image test. Be sure to let
it complete writing the data to the EEPROM once done. Close down PowerSDR,
count to 5 (for all the background processes to close) then restart
PowerSDR..

This should get you on an even keel again..

Ron,

Go to Windows Device manager, to your Ports (Com & LPT)
then to FlexControl USB Control Knob (Com4)
then to Port Settings
Look for Advanced
Change the "Com Port number" to an unused port.

This should fix you up..

And with two PSDR windows, the control will attach to the first one up.

Bill,

Your original issue, you should go to where your database is located and
flush (delete) the "Wisdom" besides the database if one was every built ..
This is in your Appdata folder under Flexradio Systems in the PowerSDR
v2.0.23folder , Then the next time you bring up that version of PSDR
the black window will re-appear and re-run, successfully I hope.

To test the RFIO board, move your antenna to the RX1 In BNC on the rear,

If it does and should you go back to Ant1-3 it is still dead, then the K1
in the RFIO has failed. Nearby ESD might have gotten to it..

Let us know.

Steven,

The FWD power in PowerSDR is really only accurate in the Tune mode .. If it
does not register correctly under Tune, then there maybe a bridge issue in

Re: [Flexradio] 2.0.22 Fatal Error / FLEX-1500

2011-04-11 Thread FlexRadio Support, Dudley Hurry
Greg,

If the startup reset did not help then reset the master.xml file, just
delete it.. Easiest way to get to it, is to go to the Run window of
Windows, type %AppData% then run. This will bring up a windows files
explorer window, then go to FlexRadio Systems folder and delete the
master.xml fileYou database files will be in the next folder down,
PowerSDR v 2.0.22 (if you are running the .22 version)

Hope this helps.

Greg,

Cycle the power to the radio, then hold the Left Shift key, while starting
PowerSDR. This should reset the database , and should correct your
issue.. You will need to restart PSDR once you do this and it should
re-read your EEPROM from the radio into the new database..

Hope this helps..

Re: [Flexradio] Flex-3000 NO RF detected

2011-03-29 Thread FlexRadio Support, Dudley Hurry
Hugo,

First I would reset the database. You should see the EEPROM data moving
back to PowerSDR and all the settings going back to defaults. You might
even try the latest version, 2.0.22.

I hope that you used a buffer relay, that amp has some pretty high voltages
on it, while the Flex 3000 has an actual internal relay instead of an open
collector, I still would not use the SB200 without a buffer relay..

Be sure to check the radio output in Tune mode, like you did into a dummy
load.. If it still fails, send me your database file that is on your
desktop offline from the reflector to save bandwidth.

We'll figure out what is wrong.. :-)

Les,

Hopefully just the internal fuse is blown.. You have to remove the ends,
and then the four rubber feet on the bottom, this will allow both boards
to slide out. There is a 3.5 amp auto blade fuse by the DC connector..
Check it, I bet it blew..

Let us know if you need an RMA number to send it in for repair..

Ted,

Use the TX profile to save most of the settings, you can assign one or all
of the bandstacking for most of the rest, remember there are three per
band, and you can edit the database.xml file to make more bandstacking per
band.

Re: [Flexradio] Flex SDR Video Screen Capture WITH Audio

2011-01-24 Thread FlexRadio Support, Dudley Hurry
Joe,

There are several ways you can do this, I'll give you a couple of easy
ways, others will have suggestions too..

One quick way is to run a male to male 3.5 mm stereo cable from the Power
Speaker output to your soundcard input, then set the video capture to the
soundcard input. Or you can use the Line Out with a Y connector to a
stereo 3.5 mm for the soundcard input.

Another way is to set the VAC output settings in the Audio tab of Setup menu
of PowerSDR to Soundmapper or your sound card input, and like the setup
above, set the program to soundcard input.. But doing this will mess up
your digital settings for VAC. If this is the case, leave VAC set for
Virtual lines, and use the VAC Repeater, which can be set to the VAC out
for input and Soundcard input, etc..

Hope this helps.

Neil maybe right, try the common mode choke, also if you have a RF Field
strength meter, make sure that there is no RF in the shack using the
meter. Outside of that, trade the monitor to a friend for his with a
normal push button power switch.

Last year there was another ham that had the same issue, I think that he

On the focus issue, there is a Windows option to have what ever window is
under the cursor to have the focus automatically. Many use that.

Also there is a program called HotWheel that can keep the focus on PowerSDR.

Re: [Flexradio] Problem with the function Wave

2011-01-05 Thread FlexRadio Support, Dudley Hurry
Claudio,

Welcome to the FlexRadio Reflector and glad that you have the radio working
for you..

There are two ways to record what you are hearing, the fastest way is
using the Quick Record/Playback feature on the main console, this is
intended to be played back over the air, is Post Processed (after all the
DSP) for record and Pre-Processed on playback, and you have to have
either the MOX depressed or PTT BEFORE hitting the Play button.

The second way is to use the Wave menu at the top, which will allow you to
record the actual digital I/Q signals coming from the radio, so you can
play it back and tune the SW just like it was looking at a radio. To do
this, you open the Wave menu, click the Options menu (upper left corner)
have the Pre-Processed for Receive (before any of the DSP processes the
signal) and Post Processed on Transmit (sent out After and DSP processes)
This is how Flex demos the radios at shows, by playback the pre-recorded
wav I/Q files, also you can set the sample rate. Warning, on the 5K you
can record at full 192 khz sample, this will use a lot of disk space very
quickly, so start at 48K first. Note: With the 1500 you can record 192K,
but will only display 48K of the signal. On playback you can tune within
the recorded signal, set the bandwidths, etc. like you had the radio, BUT
the actual frequency data is not absolute, the displayed frequency is only
relative within the I/Q signal, there is no frequency data retained.

Now both the Quick Record and the Wave recordings are contained in different
places depending on the version. With the 1.18.6 and earlier versions,
the recordings are in the PowerSDR install folder, c:\program
files\FlexRadio Systems\PowerSDR v 1.X.X .With the Beta 2.0.X
versions the recordings are in your user name folder > appdata > FlexRadio
Systems\PowerSDR v 2.0.X folder. Easiest way to get to that folder for
all versions of Windows is to go to the "Run" program and type
%AppData%then this will get you to the application folder directly
under your user name. Then go to FlexRadio Systems folder => PowerSDR
V 2.0.X there you will see the individual WAV files. You will notice
that the SDRQuickAudio.wav file is there along with any recorded with the
WAVE menu. They will have a name with the mode/frequency/date/time .wav
file name, so at least you will know where and when it was recorded.

The QuickAudio files can be played back with Windows Media player, but the
I/Q recordings can not for obvious reasons (They are not audio files but
digital data files) .

If you want to play back some large I/Q files, go to my web site,
http://wa5qpz.com=> downloads there are several there..

Maybe this helps.

Re: [Flexradio] Transmit Audio Distortion

Jim,

I was wondering what kind of audio distortion you were getting reports of?
One thing about the PR40 and just about all Heil microphones is that you
should not get any closer than 4 inches to the mic, or 6 inches if you have
a big booming voice, the lows will get so muffled that it will sound
distorted..

Also did you try the PR40 setting in the Expert Transmit Profiles? It's a
good place to start.

Re: [Flexradio] RF Feedback follow up info

2011-01-02 Thread FlexRadio Support, Dudley Hurry
David,

To add to what Tim said, there is a way to test if the RF is coming in
through the mic circuit or into the digital side in the computer. The
dummy load will let you know if the RF is radiated or internal, but also if
you do a Quick record of someone over the air, and then play it back over
the air, to see if the recording has the same RF that you have in your mic.
When you playback a recording, the mic circuit is disconnected, so if
the recording comes out clean, then the RF is getting into the mic cabling
somewhere.

Recently it has been found that some Yaesu adapters have the shields
grounded to pin 7 instead of actual chassis ground of pin 5 of the mic
connector. Pin 7 is Mic (-) and not chassis ground. Pin 8 is Mic ( + ) .
Also there has been some microphones that do not have the outside of the
case tied to the shield, so you might want to take an ohm meter and verify
that all the cases and shields are tied to Pin 5. While you are at it,
the outside metal of the mic connector should also be tied to Pin 5..

Hope this helps...

I think that not only the RF issue to consider, but that the cooling could
be an issue also..I think that you would be better off with the Flex

Re: [Flexradio] Flex+PC all in one

2010-12-19 Thread FlexRadio Support, Dudley Hurry
Justin,

It was quite a challenge, the big challenge for Gerald and Ken was to get
the computer EMT low enough to get the radio qualified. As Gerald said,
the FCC will allow more radiation out of a computer than with a radio. Put
a computer in the same box with a radio, it must qualify as a radio and not
a computer. Then you also have to support the computer and the operating
system many challenges.

Re: [Flexradio] Can I Save Transmit Equalizer settings?

2010-12-14 Thread FlexRadio Support, Dudley Hurry
Gary,

The EQ settings are saved as part of the Transmit Profile.Open the
Transmit tab in Setup menu, then once you have all the settings you want
to save, TX Drive level, Mic gain, etc, then select Save, then you
have the opportunity to save the TX settings under the same name or give it
a new name. Then when ever you want those particular TX settings,
select that profile and those settings will be installed.

Hope this helps.

Re: [Flexradio] FLEX-1500

2010-12-14 Thread FlexRadio Support, Dudley Hurry
Carter,

If you want to stay with 2.0.8, be sure to check your Windows Default sound
settings.. Plug and Pray (Play) has a habit of assigning the last sound
driver to your default Windows sounds.

With the 2.0.16 version, the sound card conflicts will go away.

And as Tim suggested, you will need to run the Driver Patch file to make
sure the 2.0.8 drivers are removed and replaced with the 2.0.16 USB
drivers..

To go back to version 2.0.8 once the firmware for 2.0.16 is loaded you will
need to follow the Driver Troubleshooting Guide.

Follow the Rollback instructions.

Re: [Flexradio] Running VAC

2010-12-11 Thread FlexRadio Support, Dudley Hurry
Tom,

I've been watching the thread on your MixW experience. It's really quite
simple, but each digital program sets up slightly different. Most folks
more issues with DM780 and not MixW.

There are only two major pieces to making the digital programs work, VAC
(virtual audio cable) and a virtual serial program (like VSP Manager or
Com0Com)

VAC just transports the audio just like a physical cable, there are some
buffers and sample rates to get setup, but these are pretty well
documented. Thousands use this and it just runs in the background, but
version 4.09 Full (signed if you are running 64 bit OS) must be used with
PowerSDR due to some conflicts with the 4.10 version.

VSP Manager is needed to transport CAT data from PowerSDR to your digital
program. And the only reason for the need to generate virtual com ports is
that Windows requires each program that talks to a com port to be unique,
so instead of having a physical com port talk to another physical com port,
it's done in SW. Much like talking into a tube, what ever goes in one
end will come out on the other end to another com port, two virtual com
ports are tied together.. Steve has done a great job of working up VSP
Manager, but you must contact him directly to obtain a copy,
k...@arrl.com

So as you figured out, get the audio working first, output of PowerSDR (in
the VAC tab of Setup) via the Virtual Lines to the input of the digital
program.Follow the procedure in one of the Knowledge Center articles

http://kc.flexradio.com/KnowledgebaseArticle50230.aspx

Or in the http://flexradiowiki.com user input pages.Either should
get you going.. It really does work, but the BIGGEST thing to remember
is to make one change at a time.. If you try to make too many changes at
once, you will need to stop, close everything down, reboot the computer
and start up again. Things like Windows Drivers, DCE and other things
will get too confused, and will give the appearance that nothing is
working..

As others have done in the past, you too will get over the hump and have it
all working together..
