I would try the manufacturers website, I guess. I know with a regular HDD you'd have to write 0 & 1's (for example) over & over again. I don't think you have to many, IIRC you can have like 256 devices? I'd do just what your thinking. Plug the card directly into a USB port, skip the hub. Hubs can be cheesy, quality-wise. Yeah 2.2 TB & larger. Yeah & 128 & 256 GB SSD's are all I can afford! lol In fact, a new 256GB SSD is what spurred this whole thing to happen. I googled for a few days, one search leading to another. Re: [H] GPT_disk_moving?!
I just searched with google & read forums just like our list. Maybe, it was a "freak" incident. Since it's my first & I read what I read - I came to the conclusions I did. I move disks all the time also. MBR's - this was my first GPT & this "freak" incident happened. Regardless, it may be worth take the minute to do the unmount/removal before someone gets another "freak" incident. I certainly have spent more than 1 minute with the aftermath! Re: [H] GPT_disk_moving?!
It'll be awhile before we can afford 2.2 & larger SSD's lol GPT requires a 64 bit OS. My Win7 handled everything fine. It's just a bit more involved than what we're used to be with MBR. Thanks for the advice on the recovery utility. From my searching, it sounds like it's more trouble than it's worth for me. Nothing critical was lost & the data can be backed up again. Re: [H] GPT_disk_moving?!
Well, I'm very glad for you, I'm also lucky in the fact that nothing there was to critical and/or can be transferred again. However, this did indeed happen. I also looked up the info as I have described to everyone & that is a fact. The only other thing I can think of is, I went from an internal sata port to a USB3 ext sata cable? Regardless. If you have a GPT drive - UNMOUNT/REMOVE from DISK MGMT! If you forget, DO NOTHING - plug it back in where it was & then REMOVE/UNMOUNT... Re: [H] GPT_disk_moving?!
T - That's because I didn't unmount it first. I just pulled the drive and then hooked it up to an external USB3 SATA cable. I should have unmounted/removed it from Disk Mgmt snap in first. If I had, I'd be fine. Since I hadn't... It might be toast. I'm going to hook it back up today - to the original cable & see just how bad I screwed the pooch. My understanding is the drive gets "keyed" to the position on the SATA ports, basically. Regards, joeuser - Still looking for the 'any' key... Re: [H] GPT_disk_moving?!
OK, I found out what needs to be done & since no one else knows I thought I'd share it with you. This way, if you make the same mistake you'll know what to do. I guess GPT disks need to be unmounted or removed from disk mgmt & then there will be no issues at all. I don't know this for certain but someday I'll have the chance to check this out. However, if you didn't know any better, like me, the best course of advice is to just reattach the drive where it was & go from there. Big differences from MBR to GPT. HTH you guys. [H] GPT disk moving?!
Have a 3TB disk I installed in my Win7 box. Planned to backup a bunch of stuff & pull the drive for safe keeping. I used GPT as it has the 3TB support. IMAP shouldn't be that big of a deal and your ISP should support it, if not... that's pretty sad. Re: [H] IMAP and iPad
POP can be set to leave messages on the server. Think of IMAP like a web based service. Hotmail, for example. You can be on any PC, anywhere and your hotmail is the same. Any changes you make, delete, move, whatever - is how it is wherever you are. IMAP can be a tad slower in my experience. Depends on many factors. I will never go back to POP. Well, here is the latest. It was a VLK license. Which means it was a bootleg and I would need either a legit VLK to replace or buy it at 150. Re: [H] Dell Laptop Batteries
It's the beginning of the end. "Just last month, Dell warned that for its fiscal second quarter ended Aug. 4, it expected earnings per share to be 21 cents to 23 cents, down 44 percent to 49 percent from the year-earlier period and substantially below analysts' estimates of 32 cents per share. Dell said its fiscal second-quarter revenue should reach $14 billion, up 4.3 percent from second-quarter 2005 but below analysts' expectations of $14.2 billion. Dell blamed the shortfall on "aggressive pricing in a slowing commercial market worldwide." But analysts and some customers say there are other things contributing to company's shortfall, namely service and technical glitches. Cindy Shaw, vice president of research, computer hardware and services at Moors & Cabot, an equity research firm in San Francisco, said in a report last month, "We are reducing estimates and our price target to reflect increasing concern about Dell's customer experience challenges and ability to succeed given current market trends." Shaw, in the report, said she was responding in part to a Better Business Bureau (BBB) report that for every PC or printer sold to a U.S. consumer, a Dell customer is about 2.5 times as likely to complain to the BBB as a Gateway customer and possibly 16 times as likely as an HP customer.
