I just added the shortcut. Patti Thanks. I finally found out how to remove the tables and keep the text. If you want the information, for future reference, here it is: 1. When the document is open, make sure you are in the table. 2. Select the first word in the table, then press alt to activate the ribbon. *And the shortcut is Alt J, L, and then V Don't need 4. Press Shift Tab until you get to the "Convert To Text" button. Press Spacebar. 5. Arrow down to "Separate by commas", then tab twice to get to "Okay". Viola. One way to determine if a heading is centered is to press alt+delete at the beginning of the line to see if it is farther in than your margin. A less safe way is to press control+e and note what JAWS reports. Control+e toggles between center text and left-align. The risk here is that you might affect the format of more parts of the document, such as the text immediately following. Interesting, and very strange. Re: [JAWS-Users] MS Word Review
As you arrow down through the list of synonyms that you get by pressing the applications key, then y, you land on "Thesaurus..." Here are instructions posted by a person named Dondi for what to do from here. I admit I can't get this to work, but Dondi did, so it must be possible. This works in Word 2010 and JAWS 13.0.718. Press F6 until you get to research edit and you hear the word that you selected in your document. Tab down once to the start searching button and press space bar. You will hear thesaurus English . Tab down once, you should hear thesaurus English outline expanded. Arrow down through the list of words. When you find one you want press shift+F10 and select insert and press enter. Press escape and you will return to your document with the new word pasted in as a replacement. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Justin Williams Sent: Saturday, July 01, 2017 12:49 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] MS Word Review Hit the right mouse button or shift f10, then the letter y. Re: [JAWS-Users] MS Word Page Number Inquiry
Hi Jerry, If you press, Insert / Jaws + Page Down, this keystroke should give you the information you want, if your status bar is configured to do so. Below are steps on how to customize your status bar. To show number of lines, line number, or many other options in the status bar in Word try the following: 1. Press F6 until Status bar is highlighted. Or, until you hear Jaws report, Status Toolbar. It should be the 1st or 2nd press of the F6 key. 2. Press Shift + F10 to show options. This keystroke must be used because a right mouse click or pressing the application key will not. 3. Down arrow through the available options, and when you have found line count or something else of interest press the spacebar to check or uncheck the item. 4. when done making modifications simply press AltF4 or escape key. 5. Review your status line to insure the settings have been properly modified. Joseph the free tech guy! Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers! Sent from my iBarstool. Depending on the current status, the single letter will often perform the function desired. However, Word 2016 provides additional support which can be difficult to operate until you understand it. 2. In the Default setting, Word 2016 checks both the spelling and the context. The safest and easiest way to navigate Word 2016's Grammar and Spelling checks is by tabbing. Here's an example. If a word is found which appears to be misspelled, Word 2016 will give you a list of possible alternatives. To select the one you want, just move down the list and press Enter to confirm the choice. Re: [JAWS-Users] MS Word 2016 and Spell-check
Hi Wayne, I'm no master of it, but it seems to work much like previous versions. You start it with F7, if the suggested replacement doesn't sound right, press Tab and arrow down through the choices. Now, here's something that is confusing, most of the time, you can still use the Alt C, to make the change, or Alt I to Ignore, but sometimes, it tells me to just use the letter, meaning just use the C or I. I have absolutely no idea why this is. I just try my usual command and if it tells me to do the changes without the ALT key, I just go with the flow. Thanks, Brian. I look forward to using this symbol the next time I suspect vertical tabs are lurking in my document. FYI, for the paragraph sign, I use ^p, which is a little easier to remember. I also use the spacebar to for the space character, which is even easier! Re: [JAWS-Users] MS Word text moving on its own
I do not use a braille display and it does happen randomly. Like you I figured I accidently hit a key combination, but I really can't imagine how. However, like I said in my previous post, turning off the mouse pad and stick have reduced the problem significantly. I use laptops exclusively at home and at work, and do not use external keyboards. I use JAWS in the desktop keyboard mode. No numpad, I've learned to do finger gymnastics. In the past 10 years, I've had this problem on several computers. Figuring out how to turn off the mouse pad as well as the stick in the middle of the keyboard solved it on all but one laptop. For the life of me I can't remember what brand computer that was, but nothing resolved it. Sorry I can't be of much help. Re: [JAWS-Users] MS Word text moving on its own
I don't know the cause, but I know one cause for this behavior. I've seen it many times. It happens on laptops when the touchpad has not been disabled. It's very easy to brush against the touchpad with the palm of your hand when typing. That makes the cursor jump around. The user has no idea this is happening. Let me be clear, I don't think this is the only cause of this behavior, but it is definitely one cause. I've seen it more times than I can count. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Kimber Gardner Sent: Thursday, July 21, 2016 9:39 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] MS Word text moving on its own And if you talk to FS, they will swear they have never in their lives seen that behavior. Agreed, the paste method makes all the difference. Re: [JAWS-Users] MS Word text moving on its own
The times I most often encounter this problem are when I've copied text from other sources into a document. Word inserts code that I can't always isolate and identify. For example, I may have what looks like a two-return break, but when I delete what I assume is one of the return characters, it remains a two-line break. Sometimes I figure out that the culprit is the character called a vertical tab. I wish I could search for that character and replace it, but I haven't worked out how to, despite having done some online research. I haven't been able to figure out any pattern regarding when this occurs making it sort of random which is why I have never mentioned it on the list. I had a half-baked theory that I was inadvertently hitting some key on my Braille display that was causing the cursor to jump, but I just don't know. Are you using a Braille display when this text jumping happens to you? If anyone else has seen this behavior, I'd like to hear about your experience. Maybe we can figure out what's going on and report it to FS or whatever the heck they're calling themselves these days. [JAWS-Users] MS Word text moving on its own
I need some of you big brains! I have an MS Word 2007 doc that is about 250 pages long. At some points when I write the text sometimes it appears in the middle of a different paragraph from the one I am working on. This happens often but it seems to be inconsistent. I am using JAWS 15. Any thoughts would be welcome. Wayne For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Try the old Office 2003 shortcut which is alt f, then u. [JAWS-Users] MS Word 2013, documents in order upside down
Hello Gang: Using JAWS 16 and MS Word 2013. While in a document, I do control o and shift tab twice to get to the list of documents. But, they are upside down, in that, documents beginning with the letter Z would be at the top of the list. Those beginning with the letter A are at the bottome of the list, as I arrow down. How do I reverse the order? I want the A things to be at the top and the Z things at the bottom. I am a bit slow, so, I am looking for easy specific instructions. Thanks a bunch, in advance. To navigate ribbons more efficiently the ribbons need to be maximized. The keystroke is, control + F1. This keystroke is a toggle so, this keystroke will maximize minimize. To check if the ribbons are minimized / maximized do the following: 1. Press the, Alt key, to open the ribbons. 2. Open the context menu with either the application key or, shift + F10. 3. Arrow up or down to the, Minimize, option.
