Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7 - question re software corruption

2009-06-03 Thread Cathy Vallevieni

Tim:

Per your request for a repost of my problem and
Dennis' solution, here they are.

My original problem:

I have never changed a RIN. I have changed MRINS.

When I view the INDEX, I show up as my maiden
name and as my married name correctly as RIN #1.
I also show up for my married name as RIN #8
which is my husband's grandfather with all of his
information in all columns except the name column
(his grandfather also correctly shows up as RIN
#8). I.E. #1 is my maiden name and my married
name (correct). RIN #8 is my married name
(incorrect) and my husband's grandfather
(correct). When I double click my listing for the
incorrect RIN #8, my husband's grandfather pops on the screen.

The same situation has occurred for my husband's
grandmother (correctly RIN #7 for married and
maiden name) whose married name also shows as RIN
#2 which is my husband with all of his
information in all columns except the name column
(my husband also correctly shows up as RIN #8).
When I double click my husband's grandmother's
listing for the incorrect RIN #2, my husband pops on the screen.

The same situation has occurred for my husband's
aunt (correctly RIN #11 married and maiden name)
whose married name also shows as RIN #3 which is
my father with all of his information in all
columns except the name column (my father also
correctly shows up as RIN #3). When I double
click my husband's aunt's listing for the
incorrect RIN #3, my father pops on the screen.

The three errors occurred with RIN 1 (me), 2 (my
husband) and 3 (my father) and only for the married name of the women.

These errors also show up when using the SEARCH function.

Any ideas how to correct these 3 additional
assigning of incorrect RIN #s for the married names of the 3 women?

Dennis' solution:

Cathy and I have (sort of) resolved this off list. I thought I would
post the solution for anyone else that sees this problem.

I took a look at Cathy's tblNX. tblNX contains, among other things, the
married names. Her tblNX married names were all dorked up. I suggested
she turn off married names, then turn them back on. This caused the
married names to be regenerated and solved her immediate problem.

The bigger question remains ... what dorked it up in the first place?
Was there a bug at one point that later got fixed? If so, shouldn't the
new release have rebuilt the married names? Or is there still a bug out
there?

RE: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7 U.S. Marriage Index template?

2009-05-26 Thread Geoff Rasmussen
Vicki,

We added specific SourceWriter templates for those England/Wales records
because the indexes are at the national level. In the states, there is no
similar national index, every state does it differently.

Using Legacy's SourceWriter, the Internet > Database template works well for
all online databases.

Hope this helps,

Subject: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7 U.S. Marriage Index template?

Hello,

I have been handling the numerous State indexes (marriage, birth, death,
etc.) that have been slowly making their appearance online by treating them
as "generic websites".

I see that there are SourceWriter templates for such indexes if they are in
England or Wales, but cannot find templates for birth, marriage, or death if
they are from U.S. federal or State indexes.

I am wondering if the templates for U.S. indexes are somewhere in the
SourceWriter templates and I am just not seeing them, or are they not there?

If they are not there, how do other Legacy users handle these?

1. Just select the father (or the mother) of the starting person and create
the report for him, or
2. Export the paternal line or maternal line to a new file and create the

Is there a way to have Legacy 7 produce ancestor or descendant reports
(not

charts), for only the paternal or maternal side of the starting person on
the report? When I click on the "record selection" button I do not see any
option to select a particular family line.

Thanks.

Easiest way might be to copy a new database from your 'real' one, using the
Focus stuff, and pare down the temp one. That way you KNOW the group is exactly
what you want.

RE: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7 & Legacy charting 7

2009-05-12 Thread ronald ferguson

Frances,

Yes Legacy Charting is included in the Legacy download and in that context is
part of Legacy. Since it also has its own uninstall file, and appears under Add
and Remover Programs in the Control Panel then I would *think* it can also be
uninstalled, but I am not prepared to test this. Though why you would wish to
do it I can't imagine. This, btw., is *not* the same as deleting.

I would also *think* that since on updating Legacy looks for old and missing
files it would put it back. Again I do not know this as a fact.

Frankly, it is not something I would wish to do (nor test).

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7 - Source Template Question

2008-10-07 Thread Jennifer Trahan
Debbie,

I have tons of Michigan marriage records I found at the LDS FamilySearch Labs
site. I used the Marriage records>Found in governmental records>Marriage
registers>Created at state/provincial level>Online images template. I named the
master source "Michigan Marriage Registers - Online images - FamilySearch."
Jurisdiction state: Michigan
Agency/Creator: Department of Vital Records
Series: Marriage Registrations
Website Creator: [blank]
Website Title: FamilySearch Labs [I had to put a space here in front of the
title to get the title to show up in the footnote...this must be a bug].
URL: http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch
Publish Date: 2008

On the detail screen, in the "Volume" field, I had to put the year of the
marriage in front of the actual volume number b/c I believe that each year of
marriages has its own set of volumes. For example, there is a v. 1 for 1902
marriages and a v. 1 for 1922 marriages. Sometimes, the database does not give
a volume number. In that case, I put the year of marriage, name of county, and
page number all in the page field. You have to finagle things a bit, but it's
not too bad.

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7 - Source Template Question

2008-10-07 Thread Terri Brown
Debbie,

You may want to just hang tight until the next update is released. In the
meantime I just "wing it". I find a template that gives me the closest results
to what I am trying to achieve and take it from there. For instance I would
probably use Online Databse for the Rootsweb California Death Records. If the
LDS Michigan Deaths and Marriages are copies of the certificates, I would use
the template for the appropriate certificate (the Ohio death cert. database at
the LDS site is images) or possibly Online Database and Images or Online Images.

Hello Everyone,

I am in need of some advice. I have the latest version of Legacy Deluxe.

In trying the new Source Templates, I have come across some templates that
almost work, or do not work.

I was wondering what others do in that case.

My examples are the following.

Rootsweb - California Death Records

Labs - LDS Michigan Deaths, Marriages

Bureau of Land Management BLM GLO Database - Desert Land.

Thanks for your advice and help in learning this new version of Legacy.

  Jim,

I don't bother with Legacy's Pictures and Sounds folders. I have 2 hard
drives in my PC - one for the operating system and programs and one for my
files. Long before I started using Legacy, I set up folders for photos and
scans of all my genealogy documents on my D: drive arranged according to the
filing system I use with Clooz. I just pointed Legacy to the D: drive then
navigate to the appropriate folder. It's a few more mouse clicks but it would
have been more more work to move everything to Legacy's suggested folders.

To change the folder Legacy is looking for, go to Options/Customize. Then
choose the Locations tab. Click the Change button next to each file location
you wish to change, choose the drive and/or folder you wish to use, click OK.
When you are finished, click the Save button on the bottom of the Customize
window. Done.

Your help will be appreciated re:

  1. I want to know which is the better/best location to store my Legacy 7
media files for my 'Scrapbook' entries.
  2. The manual states that two folders, Pictures and Sounds, are created
within the Legacy folder and, strongly recommends the use of such folders for
'pictures and sounds.'
  3. I have my pictures and sounds stored in 'family folders' on the C: drive

  4. I have about 550 families in the 'tree' so I should end up with about
that many 'family folders.' Some families have about 50 pictures.

With that in mind, what are your suggestions? I'll gladly change to benefit
performance, security, and overall design. If I should have to move 'family

that means the links from the 'old' location will be changed to 'new links' at
the new location ... for the media.

Last question ... in Legacy 7, after some names there is a special character

but, could not find; what is the definition of that character?

Thank you for your time & consideration.

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7 - Split up to different family groups and Save

2008-09-05 Thread Terri Brown
Sheelagh,

I also have separate files for my genealogy and my husband's. I briefly thought
about splitting them into maternal and paternal lines but decided that is too
many databases to maintain. My father's line goes back to colonial America and
there are A LOT of intermarriages with at least 3 in my direct line. I also
have 3 separate Thompson lines (1 on my mother's line and 2 on my father's) and
2 separate Wilson lines (1 each on my mother's and father's line). I am afraid
that I will someday discover the Thompson lines connect and Wilson lines
connect and then I'd have a mess on my hands. As it is I am hoping that the
Braun line in my tree and the Braun line in my husband's don't "collide"
somewhere along the line in Germany.

On the matter of duplicating sources and locations in each database: Legacy is
supposed to allow you to import sources, locations, etc. from another database.
However there appears to be a bug which prevents the import. When I reported
the bug to support, Sherry responded saying that the bug is known and they are
working on the fix. Hopefully that will be resolved soon. In the meantime, try
this:

Choose the appropriate source/source citation in either the Master Source List
or the List of Assigned Sources for any individual. Go to the Output tab and
highlight the text you wish to copy. Use CTRL + C to copy the highlighted text
(don't try to right-click and copy because it won't work). Paste the text into
a blank Word document or in WordPad (or your preferred text editor). Now you
have all the information you need to recreate that source in another database.

Hope this helps.

Terri

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7 - Split up to different family groups and Save

2008-09-05 Thread Pat Hickin

Sheelagh,
I did this and basically have been happy with the result -- I have VERY
few connections between the two groups. I think all the objections
people have made are valid. I'm continuing to keep mine split for the
time being, but an added objection to dividng the two groups is in the
Master sources and perhaps the Locations list. Sometimes it means you
have to enter the same source 2x , 1 for each database -- at least I
haven't found a way to copy them. I would certainly never split into
more than 2 databases.

I could never split my mother's maternal and paternal line as there are
WAY too many intermarriages -- it would be hell.

  Sheelagh,

I tried this a long time ago, when my data base was a LOT smaller.

This duplicated some people by having them in 2 or more files. I would
forget all the files they were in and make a change to only one of the files,
In a while, this became a real mess. With "Susie" updated in the A file, but
since she had married and had children she was also in the B file, which wasn't
updated. And some people could be in the A and the B and the C files.

It was really difficult putting all the files together into one file . having
to merge the duplicates and making sure that the most up to date information
was kept.

From past experience I would say Don't do it!

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7 - Split up to different family groups and Save

2008-08-20 Thread Wendy Howard

Hi Sheelagh,

I agree with Anne - don't split your file up. I wish I hadn't now, and
am slowly working towards merging them back together.

There are tools you can use to help identify people. Use the Ancestor
Colour Coding (Options > Customise > View tab) to colour code your
direct-line ancestors (or the ancestors of any person you choose in your
database). Use the FileID to make up your own labelling system - others
have discussed theirs before and you'll find these in the archives, or
follow what you started to describe in your post.

No matter how many people you have in your database, it is quick and
easy to move around using the name list (just press the i key to bring
it up) or using the bookmarks you can save.

Keeping all of your lines in one file means you have only one Master
Location list, and one Master Source list. And *when* you discover that
you were related to your husband before you married him, you won't have
to repeat all the relatives you have in common - or your own children.

Hope this helps. Keep discussing and asking questions, and we will help
you (and others and ourselves) see the wood from the trees - pardon the
pun! ;-)

Kind Regards,
Wendy Howard

Jim,

Since I first saw this email and found that you have a network I have
puzzled in case I am missing something, if so I cannot think what!

Your .fdb file is usually stored in C:\Legacy\Data (if not then you will
know where it is :-)). You need to make the Data folder into a shared folder
so go to it, right click and select "Sharing and Security". Under the
Sharing tab you will see "Network sharing and security" now check the boxes
next to "Share this folder on the web" and "allow network users to change my
files" (if that is what you want, otherwise it will in effect be read only)
and give it a Share name (or leave it as "Data" if you wish). You will now
be able to access the .fdb files and back-ups from all or any of your
networked machines.

Note: You can only use one machine at a time. It gets very complex otherwise
as one has to introduce a queueing system.

2008-08-19 Thread ronald ferguson

Jim,

Since I first saw this email and found that you have a network I have puzzled
in case I am missing something, if so I cannot think what!

Your .fdb file is usually stored in C:\Legacy\Data (if not then you will know
where it is :-)). You need to make the Data folder into a shared folder so go
to it, right click and select "Sharing and Security". Under the Sharing tab you
will see "Network sharing and security" now check the boxes next to "Share this
folder on the web" and "allow network users to change my files" (if that is
what you want, otherwise it will in effect be read only) and give it a Share
name (or leave it as "Data" if you wish). You will now be able to access the
.fdb files and back-ups from all or any of your networked machines.

2008-08-18 Thread Thomas Herson

Brian,

Your solution doesn't seem to work. The book setings have been saved on the
USB drive from the desktop. Those settings do not load from the USB when it
is inserted into the laptop. The family file is visible and usable from the
USB, but the book settings saved on the USB aren't loading even though I see
the book files there when I "explore" the USB drive.

Tom,

On each report for which you want to save the settings Click the Save
button on the report screen once you are happy with all the settings. A
mini browser will open and you change change the location of the saved
file to your USB drive using the Save In box at the top of the screen.

When you want to repeat a report using those settings use the load button
and retrieve the settings file from the USB drive on the computer you are
using at the time.

NOTE: Those load and save buttons on the report screen only save the
report settings, they do not save or load a copy of the report.

Some more points about accessing Legacy data on a network. The shared
drive or the Legacy folder on that drive should be mapped as the SAME
drive letter on all the machines.

Legacy uses explicit paths rather than relative paths to store links to
multimedia files. The paths to multimedia files must be the same i.e.
Z:\Legacy\Pictures etc. on all the machines or one or more computers
will not be able to find the files.

The file linking for multimedia files in Legacy will only "see" local
drives, a mapped network drive will appear but not a location in Windows
"My Network places"

Re: [LegacyUG] ... Legacy 7, file/folder sharing ... Jim Hughes

2008-08-18 Thread Thomas Herson
I use a USB drive for the purpose of using Legacy on both my desktop and
laptop. However, the book formats for several families which I created on
the desktop are not there when I use the laptop even though a lot of book
files do show up when I "explore" the USB drive. I am also able to access
the files on my desktop wirelessly but the book files are not there when I
try to use them on my laptop.

It would be very helpful if somoene could list the steps required to insure
that book settings are properly saved to the USB drive and are available on
the laptop either directly from the USB drive or wirelessly.

FYI - The desktop uses WindowsXP and the laptop uses Vista.

Thanks,

Legacy uses explicit paths rather than relative paths to store links to
multimedia files. The paths to multimedia files must be the same i.e.

The file linking for multimedia files in Legacy will only "see" local
drives, a mapped network drive will appear but not a location in Windows

What do you mean by 'share'? The best idea I've heard on this list is
to keep the Legacy file on a flash-drive and move that from computer to
computer so you always know where you're at. How to update your file
between computers would require something more complex I imagine, like
having them all networked.

You probably need a 6th computer that is your file server / backup machine on

Re: [LegacyUG] ... Legacy 7, file/folder sharing ... Jim Hughes

2008-08-17 Thread JLB
What do you mean by 'share'? The best idea I've heard on this list is
to keep the Legacy file on a flash-drive and move that from computer to
computer so you always know where you're at. How to update your file
between computers would require something more complex I imagine, like
having them all networked.

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7 User Guide

2008-08-09 Thread Ward Walker
I also bought the downloaded PDF version. I found it useful when I skimmed
through the general material -- learning about some of the newer features
and reminding me of some other features. However, when I tried to drill down
to solve specific problems, I found the details no more informative than the
online Help. I had to consult this list instead, or just perform
experiments.

I did buy it. I found it rather basic and do not think it is really any
more useful than the built in F1 help. On the other hand $5 is not really
much which is why I decided to get it. I probably would not bother next
time.

Where is it $5?  All I'm seeing is $9.99.  When I ordered Legacy 6 it was $9.99
extra.  Are they giving existing users a price break on the guide when they pay

Is the url $9.95. Some of the users go kinkios and had it drilled, then
you can put in loose leaf binder.

Most software these days comes with a pamphlet of instructions at most. A lot
of times the only help you get is the internal help file. Millennia gives the
best value in the industry, in my opinion, with their almost instantaneous free
patches, wonderful instructional videos (also reasonably priced) and active
help online.

It's ringing a bell. I think we went a round on this before. If you go
to the Name List and print out a csv file and then import it into a
spreadsheet you might be able to sort your list there.

In the meantime you can search centuries by looking for Individual born
before 1800 AND after 1699, for example.

Normally in the past Legacy has maintained a SUMMARY list of fixes for
end-users. See this link for v6 info:
http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/RevisionHistory6.asp
Nothing detailed or high-tech, but at least gives end users an idea of the main
items updated.

But on ver 7 they haven't done many updates and I'm guessing those updates have
been either very basic or very "behind the scenes" stuff that isn't worth
detailing for a "typical" end-user, or they've just been too darned busy with
orders, shipping, logging info, working on tweaks, etc to generate a user
friendly list.

In any event:
1) Go to the LEGACY HOME tab within the Legacy program
2) Look for the UPDATES box on the right edge
3) Click on the word UPDATES - a dialogue box pops up
4) In that dialogue box is a link for "See What's New"
5) This takes you to the web for the info. But, as I said above, right now
there isn't any detail. But you can look at the version 6 link (above) for an
idea of how/what they normally report.

Makes sense. I was hoping for a "versions" file of some description that
details what the update fixes.

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7 update from 7.0.0.41 to 7.0.0.45

2008-06-14 Thread Robert57P via Gmail

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7 - Questions about pictures and events in reports and ...

2008-06-14 Thread MJMethod
One option I have used:
Create an event. I used "Picture only" and left all of the Event
Sentence Definitions blank.
When I created the event, I let Description, Date, Location, and Notes
show on the screen. I can enter something for my information, but without any
Event Sentence Definitions they won't print.
Add the picture.
Save.
You get the picture without the "duplicate info".
You may have to move it around a bit in your event list to get it to display
in the right place on the page.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7 - Questions about pictures and events in
reports and event sentence definition

First, a belated Thank you! to the folks at Legacy for the promptness in
which I received my v7 upgrade - it arrived 1 June.

Two observations and questions regarding the new version:

* Options for sentence definition fields for events seem to remain
unchanged. I had hoped to have had the new ability to add the person's age
at the time of the event, as mentioned a number of times in archived
messages. Does anyone know if this is planned when they update the programme
for the Source Converter and other options/fixes?

* On the Family tab, you can add pictures for each individual by clicking
the picture icon, and they can be included in various reports. However,
there is also a picture icon next to the marriage information. However, the
same logic doesn't follow with the picture icon next to the marriage line.
In order to get the picture to print, you have to create an event. When a
Report prints, you get the standard info for the marriage, which again
repeats for the marriage event, i.e.

Dick was born... Dick married Jane... on 1 Jun 2008 in .
Noted events in their marriage were:
Dick and Jane were married on 1 Jun 2008 in XXX...

This seems rather silly, especially when you've no other information to add
to the event. Is there any way around this? Any plans to update this with
the next update? Or do people not find this to be an issue?

Cheers,
Christine

It is not "normal" for updates within a version to be announced. They
are made available, and you can then download them when you become aware
of them. Your Legacy program will check for updates automatically every
30 days and alert you to any waiting.

You can go to the Home tab to see what your installed version is, and
what the latest available version is, and download any new one waiting.
See "Update, Legacy" in the index of the Help System.

Hope this helps. :-)

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7: Few general questions on sourcing online sources

2008-06-13 Thread Robert57P via Gmail
I don't have answers to your questions, but would like to point out a couple
items:
* The main (home) web page doesn't change very often for most companies.
* The specific web page where you found the detailed info could change - on
some web sites it can change very regularly.
* On some web sites, the "sub pages" do not contain the home web site - either
because they maintain multiple sites/servers (for whatever reason), or they
actually retrieve it from someplace else.

Thus having both URLs does have its benefit. To get back to the original info,
try the detailed link first. If that doesn't work, try the home page and start
searching and you can usually find it.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7: Few general questions on sourcing online sources

  Hello,

I have a few questions about sourcing online documents. From earlier posts,
it appears that "Evidence Explained" doesn't really address all the online
implications for sourcing. Perhaps Mills was just as confused as the rest of
us!!

When you cite an online source it always asks for the Main website URL and
title. So, for example, if I was citing a cemetery transcription that was part
of the Iowa Genweb pages, would I use the Iowa Genweb main homepage URL? If
so, how do I indicate the exact URL within that website where I found the
information? That piece seems more useful to me. And if I include both that
seems a bit redundant since the main url will be included in the specific page
URL.

Also, what is considered to be a database when sourcing genealogy? I always
thought of a database as compiled information, records, data that was online
and searchable. Sometimes databases include images but other times not, but it
seems that in source writer unless a database/website includes images, it's
really hard to decide which template to use.

It seems that there are a lot of people confused with sourcing online records
in general, and this didn't just start with version 7 of Legacy. I think it
would be great to have a training CD that specifically addresses the philosophy
behind online sources and how to go about deciding how to record them. I
wonder, if "Evidence Explained" doesn't address online sources completely, is
there a source that does that could be used in conjunction with "Evidence
Explained" and the Source Writer?

  Thanks,
  Melanie

married status of couples that I saw what you are getting at.

I now agree that in Family View the Husband/Wife labels do not change to (in my case)
Partner/Partner when the "this couple did not marry" flag is turned on and off.

Yup, it's a bug!

Although it might be possible to alter each marriage individually, there is
also an option to set the global wording in Options/Customise/View - but it

So why do my unmarrieds, with both status as unmarried and the check box

You will see that the marriage wording fields are more flexible. Just
be aware that L7 determines if a couple is married or not by the
"This couple did not marry" check box, not the marriage status.

If I missed this in the mailing list I apologise but has anyone noticed that
there has been an update for legacy 7. This is not legacy 6 to 7, but for 7.

I have not seen this mentioned on their website and can not find any details of
what has changed.

Has anyone else noticed this?

RE: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7 - Questions about pictures and events in reports and event sentence definition

You will note the same issue with birth, death & burial events. Like you I
wish we did not have to make extra events to get pictures to print, but I

Cheers,
Christine

RE: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7: Few general questions on sourcing online sources

2008-06-13 Thread Kirsten Bowman
Melanie:

_Evidence Explained_ does go into quite a bit of detail about citing online
sources although Mills agrees that it can be complex due to the variety and
stability of sites. She recommends, for instance, that you use the main
website URL plus keywords to get to the document cited because the main URL
is less likely to change while the data at the site could be rearranged and
a specific URL would then be obsolete. This is probably why the template
asks for the "Main website URL" and title. Perhaps there's a note field
where you could put specific URL's in case you need to refer back to the
document. Your choice of the Iowa GenWeb site is a good example since
several GenWeb county sites have recently moved from RootsWeb Freepages to
other servers and their URL's will surely change eventually--if they haven't
already.

I can't address your question about choice of templates for databases since,
as I keep having to confess, I haven't switched to v.7 yet. If you have a
look at _EE_ though, you'll find many examples citing web sites which may
shed a lot of light on why the Legacy templates are structured as they
are--and give you some helpful clues about how to use them.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7: Few general questions on sourcing online
sources

  Hello,

I have a few questions about sourcing online documents. From earlier
posts, it appears that "Evidence Explained" doesn't really address all the
online implications for sourcing. Perhaps Mills was just as confused as the
rest of us!!

When you cite an online source it always asks for the Main website URL and
title. So, for example, if I was citing a cemetery transcription that was
part of the Iowa Genweb pages, would I use the Iowa Genweb main homepage
URL? If so, how do I indicate the exact URL within that website where I
found the information? That piece seems more useful to me. And if I
include both that seems a bit redundant since the main url will be included
in the specific page URL.

Also, what is considered to be a database when sourcing genealogy? I
always thought of a database as compiled information, records, data that was
online and searchable. Sometimes databases include images but other times
not, but it seems that in source writer unless a database/website includes
images, it's really hard to decide which template to use.

It seems that there are a lot of people confused with sourcing online
records in general, and this didn't just start with version 7 of Legacy. I
think it would be great to have a training CD that specifically addresses
the philosophy behind online sources and how to go about deciding how to
record them. I wonder, if "Evidence Explained" doesn't address online
sources completely, is there a source that does that could be used in
conjunction with "Evidence Explained" and the Source Writer?

  Thanks,
  Melanie

2008-06-12 Thread Dave

Anne,

But what good does it do here? Misery loves company? The same 2 or 3
solutions (check your junk mail, be patient, etc) have been posted about a
hundred times here and they're still being asked. If Sales hasn't
responded, what are a bunch of other users around the world going to do
about it? I haven't seen a single person from Sales respond to a message
here. Even the Millenia people are just telling them to contact Sales via
email or phone. All it's doing is clogging up an already overloaded list.

It's like me buying a new car and having problems with the purchase.
Instead of dealing with the car dealership, I go to the next meeting of the
local car club and expect them all to listen to my woes. No one can really
help them but the dealership. If everyone does that there probably won't be
many people attending the next car club meeting.

It all boils down to a little common sense and courtesy for others on the
list and I haven't seen much of either here lately.

Hi Jenny,

This isn't a bug - it's the way you entered it on the Entry screens -
the Individual screen and the Edit tab in the Name List.
How else would you know how the surname is actually entered?
There is no possibility for confusion on these screens as the Surname
is in a Surname box.

In ALL my Wordwide census transcriptions I add the line number, if not
included by the census taker at creation. This is for future searching
purposes, and separating families on the same page. I don't have L7 yet, so
have no idea where I will put that information. But I do count lines to get

Christine,

The "ID of Person" field is where the household member goes. You may have to
scroll down the list of fields. The line number is only for pre-1850
censuses if you've selected the U.S. census templates.

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7 Cannot set Location for Document Files

2008-06-09 Thread JLB
I have the same thing with the 'docs' folder where it doesn't stick, but
does this really affect anything? Have you looked at the Current List
of Multimedia Locations (button below). All of the locations I set
there are working fine.

RE: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7 --- PLEASE!

2008-06-09 Thread Dave
Also, my suggestion would be that those who have issues with their purchase
of version 7 take it directly to Legacy sales via email or phone.
Subscribers to the list don't need to hear about everyone's individual
purchase problems. If I had a problem purchasing something I'd deal
directly with the seller and not expect hundreds of uninvolved people to
listen to my whining.

I was away from my computer for 1 (one) day and came back to find over 200
e-mails in my Legacy folder. It has taken me hours to sift through the ones
of interest.

I set up a new folder for anything concerning the new release of Legacy 7
and a filter to shuttle those to this new folder. I know I'm likely not the
only one with this problem of subject titles. I only have a limited number
of 25 filter options left available from my ISP. I know this isn't going to
do any good to ask, but could listers be consistent in the subject line by
using Legacy 7 only?

So far I've found the following in the subject line   Legacy 7;  v7;  V7;
v.7; Version 7. If listers would PLEASE use only Legacy 7 in the subject
line I'm sure it would simplify life for all of us trying to filter our
Legacy posts into manageable folders.

As I said, I know it will likely fall on deaf ears, but at least I

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7 Source wizard for census data

2008-06-09 Thread RICHARD SCHULTHIES
In ALL my Wordwide census transcriptions I add the line number, if not included
by the census taker at creation. This is for future searching purposes, and
separating families on the same page. I don't have L7 yet, so have no idea
where I will put that information. But I do count lines to get it.

Christine,

The "ID of Person" field is where the household member goes. You may have to
scroll down the list of fields. The line number is only for pre-1850
censuses if you've selected the U.S. census templates.

For a census, in the detail section, where are you supposed to put info like
"John Smith household" and/or Line Number? I'd always thought this
information was important.

Thank you.

Christine

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7 - Legacy Charting not found

2008-06-08 Thread Gary Templeman
Do not download the standard version. Re-use the installation file for
Deluxe that you previously downloaded. (You did save a copy, correct?)

There are a number of things that may have gone wrong. Did you have the
pre-release version of charting on your computer? Did you perhaps install
Deluxe and then uninstall the pre-release version?

When reinstalling, be sure you turn off running programs and your antivirus
software first.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7 - Legacy Charting not found

Hello

I have installed Legacy 7 without issue. I am delighted with the program
(thank you Legacy) and have been working on sources since I downloaded. I
have just tried to open Legacy Charting and received the following
message.

Legacy Charting could not be found and therefore could not be run. Please
re-install Legacy 7 in order to have Legacy Charting installed again.

As I downloaded the Deluxe version do I now download the standard version
and upgrade to Deluxe with my customer number?

Has anyone else lost Legacy Charting?

With thanks

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7 --- PLEASE!

2008-06-08 Thread JLB
What if you just make a filter for "7"?That would catch them all,
probably not be confused with other mail (how many people write to you
with "7" in the subject bar?) and honest ... it would be easier than
trying to train people.

As regards your ISP and it's meagre limits, use an email reader that
lives on your machine rather than on the web. Thunderbird for example.
No limits then :-)
