sure.

1 - write a hidden file on the user's hard drive with the date it is

2 - do the same thing with an entry in the registry, Win only.

neither of these are absolute protection, but they are free and

I press a letter or a number on the keyboard to enter text
into an editable field, that number or letter appears twice
in my editable field. I opened the Keyboard control panel
and under the Speed tab I set Repeat delay to Long, and
Repeat rate to Slow. That didn't correct the problem. I
tried another keyboard, that didn't solve the problem either.
Has anybody ever had this problem before and what can I do

 I can install the
 projector if
necessary but the client would rather not if at all possible.

in my experience there is no way to eject a CD with a running program
on it. let me rephrase this:

1 - on a PC you can do it but you will definitely get the blue screen
at best
2 - on a Mac the OS won't let you do it.

you are going to have to install the projector on the hard drive
make sure that the app does not need any assets from the CD or you
will have a problem.

 I've been
playing with the CDPro Xtra but am still having problems not getting
 inserted CD's to autorun...

the autorun issue has completely to do with the user's OS settings.
unless you are prepared to disable them, and hopefully re-enable them
later, you can't do anything about this.

RE: lingo-l ...a little question...

2001-07-06 Thread Al Hospers

Just I am wondering if you have the answer for this little problem:

I know that director can control if any apps exist on the
 user hard drive
which is necessary to open a pdf or mov file, through any
 Xtra like IOXtra.

Can you tell me where can I donwload it?, Is there another
 similar Xtra to
do that?, Is this included in D8, D8x?

Hi,

I'm not totally sure that I understand what you are asking. It sounds
as if you are trying to figure out how to open an app like Acrobat to
display a PDF file. Is this correct? Director contains the following
function

  open fullPathToDataFile with fullPathToApplication

However, there are three issues:

1 - finding path to the PDF on your CD
2 - finding the path to the Acrobat reader on a given user's machine
3 - opening the Reader with the PDF

if you ABSOLUTELY know 1 2, you can simply use the built-in Director
functionality to do what you desire. That said, you will most often
know only item 2 with moderate certainty. The reason for this is that
the user may or may not have installed the Acrobat reader and they
could install it anywhere. To find this information you will need to
look in the system Registry. Additionally, they may put your CD into a
drive that may or may not be one that you can guess the path to.

All in all it's a conundrum that is made simpler by using an Xtra to
determine these seeming unknowables. There are several Xtras available
to help you with this, MasterApp is one such Xtra. The MasterApp Xtra
contains a function specifically designed for that purpose named

  mappLocateExecutable()

It returns the path to the executable registered to handle the
document at the file path specified. MasterApp gives you broad control
over other applications from your Director presentation. The most
common application for MasterApp is building connectivity between your
Director piece and various Web browsers and Web pages. However,
MasterApp is much more powerful than this basic use, including dozens
of methods for launching, monitoring and controlling external
applications.

Price: $299.00
Platforms: 32-bit Windows, Win 3.1, Mac
Director versions supported: Director 4,5,6,7,8
Author: Glenn Picher

MasterApp is a commercial Xtra sold by UpdateStage. You find out more
information, download an evaluation version or purchase the Xtra here:

RE: lingo-l waiting for sprites to initialize

2001-07-04 Thread Al Hospers

Now that my movie has grown and slowed down, some of my sprites send
messages to other sprites in the frame before the receiving
 sprite is fully
initialized. So I see an error message saying that handler so
 and so is not
found, or property such and such does not exist. If I send
 the same message
a split second later, all is well.

What's the solution? How do I make sure all sprites in the
 frame are ready
to receive calls to their methods and to have their
 properties manipulated?

Slava,

sounds like sprites in lower channel #'s are trying to do stuff to
sprites in a higher channel # before they are initialized. maybe
spread the sprites over 2 (or more) frames have a frame script in
the 2nd frame that starts up all the things you want to do. that way
_all_ the sprites are properly inited first.

another possibility is to have the sprites all register themselves in
a list as they come alive then only send stuff to members of this
list.

just some ideas to point you on your way this 4th of July...

RE: lingo-l Database and File IO

2001-07-04 Thread Al Hospers

I've got a file in a hard disk (fomat clients.txt). With an
 Xtra File IO i
get read all the database, but i would like to read only a record.

 Name City Salary
 Bohanen Geneva 4567
 Klein Bern 389
 Meister Lugano 9876
 Correia Basel7055
 etc...

I prefer to use a list format for databases that I do in text files.
possibly something like this (untested lingo!):

[ [#name:Bohanen, #city:Geneva, #salary:4567], [#name:Klein,
#city:Bern, #salary:389], [#name:Meister, #city:Lugano,
#salary:9876], [#name:Correia, #city:Basel, #salary:7055] ]

read in the entire list from the text file using standard FileIO.
reconstitute it as a list using

 myList = value(myList)

then get at the data in the normal way you would for any list. this
makes things lots easier. the only problem is if it is a really big
list, then there can be difficulties. of course some may say that if
it is that big you should be using a real database! grin

 scanning the Lingo

 maybe there is a
workaround. What I'm after is something like this:

 SendThisKey(END) to field MyNotes

you can

1 - find the last character in the field
2 - set the cursor to that place using the selStart the selEnd.
setting them to the same value puts the cursor in that location.

I am not talking about shockwave at all, just about a projector / D8

I think, correct me if I am wrong here, that the same parameters that
control the number of available streams in the browser, do the same
for SW. this is being handled on a system level they are

RE: lingo-l ?Passing command line parameters to projectors?

2001-07-03 Thread Al Hospers

Is there a way to pass parameters to projectors created with
 Director 8.5

a search of the archives returns the following posting, and numerous
more, from quite recently:

The commandLine

Director's the commandLine system property is designed to provide
access to
the entire string of text that was used to execute a runtime
projector.

put the commandLine
-- projector.exe /s /t

This returns the entire command line argument string passed to a
runtime
projector when using the Run... menu command in Windows.

USAGE

You can use the commandLine to dynamically specify which frame of a
movie
should be displayed at the start of playback.

For example, launch the Projector with the marker name as the first
command
line argument. Then use code similar to this in your movie:

on prepareMovie
  startUpArguments = the commandLine
  if startUpArguments EMPTY then
go frame startUpArguments.item[1]
  end if
end prepareMovie

DRAG AND DROP

On Windows, you can drag and drop multiple files onto a Projector
icon.
Director will list each file's name in the commandLine property at
launch
time.

On Macintosh, although you can drag files with identical creator code
as
the Projector onto the Projector's icon to launch the projector, the
commandLine will contain an empty string.

OK I'll try again. as I said before...

When a cast file is selected from Director's own Where

the user selects a file that is not a valid cast file,
 Director tells you
so. How does it know? What does it check? Can I check this

assigning a file to be the cast's external source (on Mac and

Slava,

if you are letting users load assets that are in external castLibs the
way to do this is to be sure, even on the Mac, to have a file
extension. then only display files of a certain type. I think you can
do this on the Mac using FileIO, I know you can on the PC.

if they have renamed other files with a C*T extension, well we can't
help stupidity. grin Director will not load it tho will throw an

RE: lingo-l recording sound using Microphone

2001-06-29 Thread Al Hospers

Does any body know how to record the sound(voice) using Mic
 within DIrector
 Is it posible??

Hi,

Yes it is certainly possible. You don't say if you are using Mac or PC
or which version of Director you have. Someone pointed out that they
had tried it using MCI. I have personally used MCI extensively. It
is PC only and is generally not a reliable solution. Add to that it is
being depricated in Windows. In any event, I would suggest using an
Xtra such as the Audio Xtra from UpdateStage. I am confident it can
solve your problem. Here is some information from the Documentation:

What Audio Xtra Does:
Audio Xtra records sound in Director, Authorware and Shockwave. It can
record to external files, cast members or to memory. Audio Xtra
initially records to WAV files on the PC and AIFF files on the
Mac.After recording, it can convert recorded sound to AIFF, WAVE or AU
format on either platform. Audio Xtra is Shockwave-safe and
downloadable, which means that it will automatically install itself if
it is not already present on the end-user's system.

Recording features include support for 8 or 16-bit recording and 11kHz
through 44kHz sampling rates (all of these are available if the input
device supports it). A recording may be stopped, paused and resumed at
any point. Audio Xtra records and plays back sound asynchronously,
meaning that animation, Lingo scripts and anything else in Director
can run while a sound is being recorded.

Price: $299.00
Platforms: 32-bit Windows,Mac
Director versions supported: 6,7,8,8.5
Authorware version supported: 4
Shockwave-safe, Shockwave auto-install
Author: Scott Kildall

Audio Xtra is a commercial product available from UpdateStage. For
more information, to download a trial version or purchase the Xtra

RE: lingo-l ?Passing command line parameters to projectors?

2001-06-28 Thread Al Hospers

Is there a way to pass parameters to projectors created with
 Director 8.5

 I'd like do something like:

 projector.exe -par1 -par2

Hi Andrea,

You can use an Xtra to do what you desire. One such Xtra is MasterApp,
from UpdateStage. Here is an excerpt from the MasterApp documentation
that you may find useful. It works on Windows Mac.

===

mappLaunch ( appPathString, commandLineArgsString )
appPathString: string containing full path to executable
commandLineArgsString: string containing optional command line
arguments or
Returns: integer task ID on Win32 and Mac, instance ID on Win 3.1 . If
there is an error, returns a negative number that is a Mac standard
system error code on Mac or string beginning with Error:
CreateProcess() failed, code on Win32 containing a Win system error
code.

Opens the application specified in appPathString. If
commandLineArgsString contains a document path, opens the document
with the application. If the application is already open, usually that
app will come to the front. An application must be programmed to
respond in this way, so it is possible to encounter an app that does
not automatically move to the front.

Example:

set err = mappLaunch(C:\WINDOWS.95\NOTEPAD.EXE,)

MasterApp gives you broad control over other applications from your
Director presentation. The most common application for MasterApp is
building connectivity between your Director piece and various Web
browsers and Web pages. However, MasterApp is much more powerful than
this basic use, including dozens of methods for launching, monitoring
and controlling external applications.

Price: $299.00
Platforms: 32-bit Windows, Win 3.1, Mac
Director versions supported: Director 4,5,6,7,8
Author: Glenn Picher

MasterApp is a commercial Xtra sold by UpdateStage. You find out more
information, download an evaluation version or purchase the Xtra here:

 http://www.updatestage.com/xtras/xtrahome.html

===

Note - you cannot pass multiple arguments as parameters as you request
in your posting. That said, you can pass a list of parameters that you
could then parse as desired.

I hope that this information is useful.

 problem is i am
trying to find which cd is in the drive and then go on from

problem is it detects the first cd and then the second cd but
 it does not
play the clip from the 2nd movie. This is i think the problem with
DirectMedia Xtra since it checks for Directmedia cast before
 it executes
 lingo. How to avoid it??

well that is a bit clearer description of the problem.

I suggest that you have a placeholder MPEG that is also copied to the
hard drive. it can be tiny. between swaps reset the link to the file
on the local drive. that way the link is never broken. I'll bet that
will do the job.

Hi Pranav,

Yes there is a Xtra called Progress Copy. It is from UpdateStage was
written by Glenn Picher. Here is some information from the web site:

The ProgressCopy Xtra copies files with an optional progress bar
display. The progress display can include a custom text message, and
provides the user with a Cancel button.

The most common use of ProgressCopy is to copy files from a CD ROM to
the user's hard drive as part of an install. You can also use it with
image library or browser applications to allow the user to copy
selected images and media from the CD to their hard drive on demand.

Although there are other Xtras, including Macromedia's own FileIO
Xtra, that can be used to copy files, ProgressCopy offers these
advantages over other solutions:

Can display a progress dialog, which is especially helpful to the user
during a long file copy
Copies both the resource and data fork of Mac files

Platforms: 32-bit Windows, Win 3.1, Mac

Hi Roberto,

Considering the number of members you are describing I would suggest
using an Xtra like TextCruncher from UpdateStage. TextCruncher does
lightning-fast searchs of text. You can use it in a Director projector
or in a Shockwave movie to perform a real-time fulltext search or even
create indices for an indexed search of very large amounts of text.
The latter seems particularly appropriate in your case. Here is a link
to an article in the UpdateStage archives that should help get you on
your way:

  http://www.updatestage.com/previous/981201.html

There is even a drag and drop behavior in the current demo that does
the indexing and runtime search for you!

The current version of the TextCruncher Xtra is a commercial product
available

supports Director 6-8 and is Shockwave safe.

i need to know how to get the parameters passed through the

 command in autorun.inf:

Which is the handler receiving those params. (on startup

The SystemProperty the paramCount doesn´t dectect any of
 those and always
 returns zero.
That is to say, which method in lingo is aquivalent to e.g.
 public static
 void main(String[] args) in JAVA?

Hi Jochen,

You are going to need an Xtra to do what you desire. Director on its
own cannot get command line arguments. One such Xtra is MasterApp,
from UpdateStage. Here is an excerpt from the MasterApp documentation
that you may find useful.

===

mappLaunch ( appPathString, commandLineArgsString )
appPathString: string containing full path to executable
commandLineArgsString: string containing optional command line
arguments or
Returns: integer task ID on Win32 and Mac, instance ID on Win 3.1 . If
there is an error, returns a negative number that is a Mac standard
system error code on Mac or string beginning with Error:
CreateProcess() failed, code on Win32 containing a Win system error
code.

Opens the application specified in appPathString. If
commandLineArgsString contains a document path, opens the document
with the application. If the application is already open, usually that
app will come to the front. An application must be programmed to
respond in this way, so it is possible to encounter an app that does
not automatically move to the front.

Example:

set err = mappLaunch(C:\WINDOWS.95\NOTEPAD.EXE,)

MasterApp gives you broad control over other applications from your
Director presentation. The most common application for MasterApp is
building connectivity between your Director piece and various Web
browsers and Web pages. However, MasterApp is much more powerful than
this basic use, including dozens of methods for launching, monitoring
and controlling external applications.

Price: $299.00
Platforms: 32-bit Windows, Win 3.1, Mac
Director versions supported: Director 4,5,6,7,8
Author: Glenn Picher

MasterApp is a commercial Xtra sold by UpdateStage. You find out more
information, download an evaluation version or purchase the Xtra here:

 http://www.updatestage.com/xtras/xtrahome.html

===

Note - you cannot pass multiple arguments as parameters as you request
in your posting. That said, you can pass a list of parameters that you
could then parse as desired.

I hope that this information is useful.

Yes, I'm using the property lists now (thanks again to

moment of writing I'm still debugging the program since the
 result generated
by this Lingo program is not the same with those in the Excel
 spreadsheet
 computation (using macros -VB code).

I did a big project last year that used complex financial formulas in
the manner of what you are describing. I found it easier to work from
the original Excel formulas. I also found that it was immensely
helpful to get the original person who wrote the spreadsheet model to
rewrite the Excel formulas in PLAIN ENGLISH then I would translate
them to code. anything else took 3-4 times as long.

Is there a way to send a large group of sprites with a script
 attached
params without using the sendAllsprites and without using a
 repeat loop?

It seems faster if i use a sendAllsprites instead of using a
 repeat loop
 anyone know if that's true?

repeat loops lock out everything else. I prefer to avoid them wherever
possible. sendAllSprites would likely be the preferred method.

One last question :). Can you send params to multiple handlers in

 sendSprite command?

not to my knowledge.

If it's a Windows box, you can do that with the Scheduled

can
 restart your program at least.

do the following:

1) create a batch file that restarts the machine

2) put a line in the run section in the Registry to restart your

here in Win 2k:

FYI I decided to check out the difference by using the
 suggested script
below this is what turned out. Its bassically moving the
 locV of every
sprite when the handler is called.

 Repeat loop: sendAllSprites:
 5 sprites : 86 5 sprites: 112
 10 sprites: 329 10 sprites: 224
 15 sprites: 402 15 sprites: 386
 20 sprites: 587 20 sprites: 542
 25 sprites: 817 25 sprites: 750
 30 sprites: 1064 30 sprites: 990
 35 sprites: 1348 35 sprites: 1266
 40 sprites: 1661 40 sprites: 1566
 50 sprites: 2326 50 sprites: 2236
 75 sprites: 4703 75 sprites: 4239
 100 sprites: 8244 100 sprites: 7113

 Interesting.

But, if you really want to find out, add your own timing test:

 startTime = the milliseconds
 repeat with aSpriteNumber in myListOfSpriteNumbers
  sendSprite(aSpriteNumber, #someMessage)
 end repeat
put Repeat loop test took (the milliseconds - startTime)

 startTime = the milliseconds
 sendAllSprites(#someMessage)
put sendAllSprites test took (the milliseconds -
startTime)

RE: lingo-l Best way to make an audio intensive slideshow for the web

My question is, what is the best way to set this up for

when it's complete and move onto the next slide? Director or
 Flash?

actually this is quite straight-ahead to do in Shockwave. all the
stuff is there to stream the SWA files creating a player is not
difficult. you can do it as a combination of HTML SW. here is an

RE: lingo-l Load/unload mp3s -- HELP!!!

2001-06-17 Thread Al Hospers

I'm having some problems with switching the filename property of SWA
castmembers. In particular, the id3tags property doesn't
 update to reflect
the new file (even after playing the member) and you need to play
the
member to update the member properties to display a valid
 controller. I
would suggest that it might be safer to:

 erase (member swa)
 newSWA = new(#swa)
 newSWA.filename = yourfilenamehere.mp3

interesting... I have used this method, switching the filename of SWA
members on several projects with no problem. here are 2 examples:

  http://www.neclimbs.com/profiles/current/current_profile.html
  http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/arthur/arthur/musicbox/dswmedia/music.html

that said I am not using the defult controller, but one I create
myself to manipulate playback. dunno why that would make any serious
difference.

RE: lingo-l fileIO irregularity

2001-06-15 Thread Al Hospers

I need to open a text file, which is in the same folder as
 the projector,
in wordpad from a projector. I'm using

open the moviePath myfile.txt with C:\windows\write.exe

The problem is - wordpad opens but I get an error message
 saying file
My (etc.) not found. On the other hand the file opens Ok
in
notepad, although the formatting is lost.

Hi Steve,

Have you tried this from the message window and can you make it work
there?

Just as an aside... I notice that you are hard coding the path to
WordPad

  C:\windows\write.exe

I assume that you know this is not likely to work on all machines. In
fact it will fail on NT and Win2000 boxes almost for sure.
Additionally, users can choose the name of the Windows system folder
on installation. You will need to use a system-level function to
determine the path to WordPad based on information in the registry.
Also, as someone else also pointed out, you may have a problem with
spaces in the path and long file names on some versions of Windows.

There are several Xtras which will perform these functions for you,
MasterApp is one. The MasterApp Xtra contains a function specifically
designed for the purpose of locationg an executable named

  mappLocateExecutable()

It returns the path to the executable registered to handle the
document at the file path specified.

Regarding the short/long filename issue, you could use

  mappGetShortFileName ( filepathString )

It takes a string containing a long file path and returns a string a
short DOS-style file path.

MasterApp gives you broad control over other applications from your
Director presentation. A common application for MasterApp is building
connectivity between your Director piece and various Web browsers and
Web pages. However, MasterApp is much more powerful than this basic
use, including dozens of methods for launching, monitoring and
controlling external applications.

Price: $299.00
Platforms: 32-bit Windows, Win 3.1, Mac
Director versions supported: Director 4,5,6,7,8
Author: Glenn Picher

MasterApp is a commercial Xtra sold by UpdateStage. You find out more
information, download an evaluation version or purchase the Xtra here:

RE: lingo-l how can I exit the movie?

2001-06-13 Thread Al Hospers

Actually, a better way out is to use 'halt'.

In authoring mode (that is, in Director), quit will also exit
 Director,
which makes it really annoying for testing. By using 'halt'
 instead, the
 movie will just stop.

to cover both authoring runtime modes I have found that this works well.
use this code as a behavior on your Exit button:

 on mouseUp me

  smartQuit

 end

then place this code as a movie script in your movie:

 on smartQuit

  if the runMode Author then
   QUIT
  else
   HALT
  end if

 end

the reason for the distinction is that QUIT will cause the Director
authoring environment to close, which is not what you want when testing.

hope this helps

RE: lingo-l search a word in a field

2001-06-12 Thread Al Hospers

JaCQUES wrote:

I would like to now how to search a word in a field and then
 highlighting this word.

Hi,

If the amount of text in your field is not too large you can do this in
Lingo. If you do not need to pre-index your search there is an article by
Pat McClellan on DOUG (www.director-online.com) that will certainly help you
out. Search using text and search as keywords. If there is enough text
where you might want to index each field in advance for a very speedy search
then there is an article about doing it in tLingo on UpdateStage here:

  http://www.updatestage.com/previous/971201.html

However if you have a HUGE amount of text in the field of you need to search
the contents of a large file, you may want to use an Xtra like TextCruncher
from UpdateStage. TextCruncher does lightning-fast searchs of text. You can
use it in a Director projector or in a Shockwave movie to perform a
real-time fulltext search or even create indices for an indexed search of
very large amounts of text. The latter seems appropriate for your needs.
Here is an article in the UpdateStage archives that will help get you on
your way

  http://www.updatestage.com/previous/981201.html

There actually is a drag and drop behavior in the current demo that does the
indexing and runtime search for you.

The current version of TextCruncher Xtra is a commercial product available
for sale through www.updateStage.com. It is $129, is for both Mac and
Windows,
supports Director 6-8 and is Shockwave safe.

WHY ,someone have any suggestion or solution.

because they are different on the Mac PC. if it causes you a problem you
have 2 choices:

1 - create a behavior that you attach to each text member that sets the line
height of each member in the on beginSprite handler.

2 - turn the text into a bitmap.

repeat with f = 1 to 32
sound(4).queue([#member: member( f, sounds)])
sound(4).queue([#member: member( 1_sec_space, sounds)])

if you have a sound member with 1 second of blank space in it, this should
put that between each item in the queue you are constructing.

 - Can I control the size of the pause between the sounds?
 (For example, if
the 32 sounds are the letters of the ABC, and I want to give the user

have different size space sound members that you use based on the users'
choice.

You can certainly use MUI dialog boxes to do what you need done. I have used
them a lot for all kinds of projects. Lingo In A Nutshell has information
about using them as does the MM technotes. Some time ago, either here or on
Direct-L, I posted a handler that makes creating the basic ones quite easy.
You might search the archives for the code.

NOTE - the required Xtra is NOT Shockwave compatible. If you need SW dialogs
you will neet to roll your own as MIAW's.

That said there are some Utilities available that will make the process a
LOT easier, especially if you have a complex dialog to lay out. The MUIMaker
Utility from UpdateStage is one of these.

MUI Maker enables you to visually design a dialog and then generates the
Lingo code for the dialog you create. You can place, resize and position
your choice of buttons, dropdown menus, sliders, checkboxes, text fields and
labels. One click on the Generate button creates all of the Lingo code
necessary to run the dialog and copies it into the clipboard, ready to paste
into a Director script. MUI Maker runs on a PC, but the Lingo code it
generates works in Director movies on both the Mac and the PC to display
dialogs native to the platform the movie is running on.

Price: $99.00
Platforms: 32-bit Windows
(Utility runs on PC. Generated Lingo code works in either Mac or PC movies)
Director versions supported: Director 6,7,8,8.5
Author: Ravi Singh

For more information, view a short demo or to download an evaluation version
please visit our site at http://www.updatestage.com/xtras/xtrahome.html and
click MUI Maker in the menu on the left.

I need to know how xtras
 communicate with the
Windows and Mac OS. How they use the API or toolbox, what systems,
resources, and whatever else is involved in an xtra talking
to the OS it is running on.

have you looked at the XDK? that would point you in the right direction.
there is also an Xtras dev list that Terry S. runs. you can find the sub
info on the MM site.

All works well...But I want to put in a warning box to tell
the end user that the program will quit and install
Quicktime. Where do I pu this code?

I assume that you are going to put in an Alert. however, I don't think that
you can do this in the prepareMovie. I think you will need to do it in a
frame or at least startMovie.

RE: lingo-l print from fields

2001-06-06 Thread Al Hospers

It has been suggested that mPrint designer is the extra to
 use but this
 seems longwinded inapproipriate.
 Any other ideas?

as I stated in a previous posting on this subject... there is no internal
way in Director to Print. you will need to use some Xtra to handle the
process. they all are long winded in a certain sense I suppost, however they
are quite appropriate.

the only other possibility is to build the data entry fields in Flash
embed tham in Director then print those out. I have not done this I
don't think that assembling separate Flash elemennts into a single form/page
and printing that is possible.

RE: lingo-l drawing like in a drawing prgramme

2001-06-06 Thread Al Hospers

There will be limitations based on the processor speed and
 the speed at
which director is running. You can fill like you are asking,
 but the lines
will be jagged if the mouse is moved to fast.

you absolutely can write a drawing routine that will not have the jaggies
the dropouts. it requires interpolating between points is not a trivial
exercise. FWIW all of the drawing routines in all drawing/painting programs
do this.

you can see an example of this technique here:

yes I realize this, as stated I created a paint program for a
 project last
year, but you do still run into jagged lines if the mouse is
 moved to fast,
even with in the program you linked.

interesting... I can't see any difference between moving the drawing tool
fast or slow, but if you see it who am I to disagree.

But when I turn my movie into a projector, the above code

SNIP

this is, in fact, the way it works. the mailto function will open a browser
window. if you want to send email without that taking place you can purchase
an Xtra such as the DirectEmail Xtra from Direct Xtras or use the MultiUser
Server Xtra that comes with Director. there are technotes on the Macromedia
site detailing the latter.

RE: lingo-l Acrobat problems

2001-06-05 Thread Al Hospers

I have used an alert statement to test the paths. I have
 tried both the
moviePath and the pathName. I Have also asked 3 experienced lingo
programmers who work with me and their stumped as well. I'm
 not sure what to
 do at this point.

Well here's the deal... If you have one machine where it works a bunch
that don't you need to figure out WHY it works on the one machine. Does it
always work in authoring? Does it work on your development machine? You may
need to install your development system on some of these machines, including
the one where it works, and trace thru the code in the debugger. Have you
done that? Possibly try typing in the open xxx with yyy code in the
message window see what that does.

One thought - does the machine where it works have Acrobat installed on it?

It sounds as if you have your work cut out for you.

Of course you could also get one of the Xtras like MasterApp that have
functions that are designed to do this for you.

Good luck,

 how can this be

Director has no built-in printing capabilities. you will need to use
something like mPrint or PrintOMatic. you can find more info on there
