I have had to troubleshoot engine issues and found no problems until I mashed

People that drive like that need to be given Hellcats or Charger SRT8's for a
couple days with the traction control disabled.

My W123 300D is currently wearing 195-70R14 Uniroyal Tiger Paw tires,
the W116 300SD (with what appears to be the same Bundt style wheels) has
205-70R14 General Altimax RT. I would not swear that either one is
officially the "best" size. The W116 has the tires that were on it when
I got it, and the W123 has gotten the same size it had before anytime
I've replaced tires. Both cars have atrocious traction in the snow.

Around here, the donation places don't want to mess with retitling, so
they just leave it on the donor's title and sell it to dealers who can
reassign the title. But that kills the auction value of the donated car.
It's as if the charities don't care, because the car was free.

Signal was/is considered a major threat to intelligence collection in the NSA

Re: [MBZ] 123 Tires and OT Truck Tire Questions

2021-01-18 Thread Mitch Haley via Mercedes

I just looked at Tire Rack. Hankook Kinergy ST and General Altimax
RT43 in both 175r70-14 and 185R70.

Weren't the originals something like 175R80 or R83?

I did a car search at Tire Rack, for 1984 300D they told me 195/70,
for 1979 240D they told me 'we don't sell that'. A lot more choices in
195 than in 185, including the classic Vredestein Sprint (which costs
more than a 17" Michelin Crossclimate for my mom's Malibu).

Just ordered a couple of wheels and four TPMS for the Malibu, Farm
Bureau will sell me Firestone WeatherGrip for $149 installed if I
supply the TPMS. They seem to be pretty high ranked among the Three
Mountain Snowflake stuff if you care more about snow performance than
summer performance.

Actually, they had a developer’s API that was coded by a 10 year old that
allowed some European hackers to access the stored data even after their rights
got pulled. They were able to download a significant amount of message traffic
with user names and other identifying data. Interestingly, Parler did not scrub
metadata on pictures or other such things, so EXIF and other goodies
identifying the devices and their locations were ripe for the picking, so to
speak.

Re: [MBZ] 123 Tires and OT Truck Tire Questions

2021-01-18 Thread Randy Bennell via Mercedes

I was just thinking about my upcoming trip from Okie Acres to Memphis in the
240D. I’m not sure about condition of tires so I imagine I will replace the
tires later if needed. I was checking and the original size is 175/70/14.
Apparently that size doesn’t exist anymore and most people are using 185-70-14
which is pretty close to the original.

Anybody have recommendations for tires in this size that you all have used on a
123?

As far as the OT Truck question, I have a 2019 Chevy Silverado that I bought
back in May. It has 10,000 miles now. I have noticed that if it is raining (or
even just slightly wet), the tires will spin when trying to take off from a
stop. I wondered if this was just because it was a truck with no weight in the
bed. BUT, I was just reading reviews of these tires (Goodyear Fortitude HT) and
LOTS of people complain about wet traction.

Anybody have a full size truck/SUV and really like the tires they have? Or have
experience with others to avoid? The truck is 2WD and weather in Memphis is
pretty mild (except in the summer!).

Donald H. Snook

Do you just have a heavy foot? My F150 will spin the wheels when it is
wet if I step on it hard but I generally don't have an issue when I pull
away from a light. Don't recall what tires are on it but will look.

Trying to back up uphill is the worst (in empty pickup). Once (spinning

I have had the same issue in all the trucks I've ever owned, especially

2021-01-18 Thread Curt Raymond via Mercedes
For truck tires I can't say enough good about General Grabbers. I just got our
second set, these are the A/TX, previous were AT2. Both carry the mountain
(snow rated) symbol and are excellent offroad and on.
The A/TX are much quieter than the AT2 although they'd be loud compared to a
car tire.
They're quite aggressive but last well, the AT2s went 45 or 50,000. Would have
gone longer but I think I might have missed a rotation interval. We had them
for just over 4 years. Not terribly expensive either.

Re: [MBZ] OT Anyone know/use Signal?

The Par ler COE said (on TV last night) that they used AWS servers for
development (dumb, IMO) and were unable to download all their codes, etc.
before Amazon pulled the plug. Bad on Amazon but Par lor should have had safe
backups. I have multiple local and cloud backups for even for my little church
site.

2021-01-18 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
I don't use either one (I'm not on social media at all, actually) but
the pitch for Signal is secure end-to-end encryption. I thought it was
mostly a competitor to SMS or iMessage or other direct message
apps. Maybe it has a "follow" feature like Twitter? Don't know.

Parler appears to have some issues on the technical side, from what I've
read. Some clues that their programmers were not very experienced or
well-educated in secure programming practices (things like using a
simple sequential number for message IDs, which makes them easy to
guess). Their main selling point is/was free speech, not so much secrecy
or privacy. They didn't seem very prepared for being suddenly banned
from Amazon services, which is maybe understandable but when you use
cloud providers you should always have a tested plan "B" in case you
need it. Services like Google and Amazon are known to ban accounts for
no discernable reason, and talking to a real person to get it sorted out
is near-impossible.

Re: [MBZ] 123 Tires and OT Truck Tire Questions

2021-01-18 Thread Allan Streib via Mercedes
I think it's mostly that there's no weight (relatively speaking) over
the rear wheels. Also the way pickup trucks are geared. Good for
pulling, not so good for starting on a slippery surface.

In my Frontier I can control it by slipping the clutch (which I don't
really like to do more than necessary) or starting in 2nd gear.

In general, every truck I've ever owned handled and felt better with
about 500lbs in the bed.

I've used a Great Call Lively Mobile for a number of years. $50 for the unil
and then $17/month for the service. Before Great Call came on the scene I used
a different companies unit that required a base station. It was easy to get out
of range of the base station which which had a limited range.
The Great Call Lively Mobile needs no base station. The pocket units range is
anywhere in the U.S.
except for a few areas where cell phones won't work. The service has been good
and there is one button to push in order to talk to the operator at Great Call.
There may be other units similar to Great Call or your Mom may be happy happy
with a base station unit if she stays in the house 24/7.
Good luck,
Gerry

I got some Kumhos for the 210 E300 I smashed.  Inexpensive but generally
get good reviews.  Seemed like decent tires.  You could probably get a
set mounted for like $300 or a bit more.  I had a $75 MIR I got from
somewhere when I got mine, they shipped them to a tire store, I took the
old wheels over and they swapped them.  I can't remember where I got
them, TireRack maybe?  But El Mercado de Wal sell them too

Apparently that size doesn’t exist anymore and most people are using 185-70-14
which is pretty close to the original.

Anybody have recommendations for tires in this size that you all have used on a

Signal is what the military is requiring all active duty people to use, if
that is any indication.

This article from Forbes details the metadata collected by Messenger,

I have had the same issue in all the trucks I've ever owned, especially
starting on an uphill. Only thing that really avoided it was weight in
the bed. The tires might make a bit of difference, but probably won't be
a cure-all.

[MBZ] 123 Tires and OT Truck Tire Questions

2021-01-18 Thread Don Snook via Mercedes

You’re thinking 500SEL as in W126.

The W124 500E was built from 1991 through 1195, I believe. Porsche was involved
in some of the design and assembly, in fact, the cars were finished at the
Porsche factory. M119 5.0 liter engine, SLS, different suspension and fenders
were flared out. There may have been other things but that’s the main
take-aways.

In the context of this thread, it's Philips' medical alert system.

with his monthly retirement home fee. IMO it is very good that he has it.
