Re: Test; Re: [newbie] What´s wrong with Mozilla?
Apparently Galeon was the source of problem and by removing it, all the previously malfunctioning clicks are properly working now. I guess i would not really need Galeon as Konqueror, Mozilla and Mozilla Firebird are doing a good job all together. I have also installed Opera 7.50 pre-release version. Font rendering still ugly. I see if i can do some thing about this. Ramin In my Mozilla 1.4 on Mandrake 9.2 you go to Edit menu, Click on Mail Newsgroups Account Settings, and on the first screen you should see a box marked Reply-to Address (below the boxes marked 'Your Name' and 'Email Address'). The Reply-to Address box should be empty! There is probably something similar in Mozilla 1.5 - I haven't upgraded yet. If you can't find it, let me know off-list and I'll send you some screenshots of my setup that might help. Margot Well, you seem to have got the Reply-to sorted now - so, back to the real problem... which I probably can't help with as I've never encountered such problems myself! Although I'm no expert, it sounds as if your Moz installation is corrupted in some way. How did you install it? Did you use urpmi? I had various odd problems with previous Moz installations where I didn't use urpmi - but since I discovered urpmi I've had no problems. No , It's just that you do not have your writer as a device, mounted, the /mnt/cdrom section is there for that . The rest adds various controls to the device, like fonts and access, but I cannot remember what the 0 0 on the end does.I should know but cannot recall. I guess that k3b does not actually have to access the device through the external system mount command, but can aecess it as a device using it's own built in mount command, I don't really know though. Pure guess. The k3b programme setup wizard added mine like it is , so I'm guessing quite a bit. I tend to use xcdroast for most gui writing, and cdrecord on the command line, but recently I added k3b , and found to my joy if can packet write, something I have never been able to do before. So that's a one up for k3b. I find that very usefull when wanting to add bits and pieces of software programmes to a CD for safe keeping, it doesn't insist on fixing the entire disc, thus leaving space for aditions. John k3b wizard added my entry like it is too. Maybe a difference in our setup requirements because of hardware/software?? I simple don't know. Something I have noticed that I would like to enquire about is the fact that under windows, my cdrw drive seems to be spinning a lot faster while operating. What could account for that? I have noticed this even when playing a music cd. The drive is a lot louder. Under Mdk it seems to be running quieter/slower. Seems like it is working OK under both however. I think this is a good sign, it means the device is reading data well, without having to accellerate the spin speed to do so. I like k3b too, but haven't tried anything else yet for Mdk. Nero is pretty simple to use under windows. You ought to do a man cdrecord in a terminal, and see if you can begin to understand the command line. After all these gui apps are merely a gui front ends to cdrecord to save you the effort of bothering to learn the command line. I personally like to know both. I like both. I see nothing wrong with gui apps, but I also like to know how things work. So I generally make an effort to learn both. If you ever want help with the command line , you only have to ask here and plenty of us will help you. For gui front ends I prefer xcdroast, I like it's eligant logical layout for a start. Basically you find everything you want to write a disc in apps withing it by selecting from botton boxes down the lefthand side of the main window, just follow procedures . Within each step of the way you have many choices to make, but defaults get you started. Before you can use xcdroast you must enter setup and get everything entered correctly, but once done, save and return to main window. You may need to install xcdroast, it's on your installation discs if you need to find it. [newbie] Toshiba Satellite 1410 internal modem driver
Nel pacchetto c'e' un Makefile, ma al comando make install viene visualizzato il msg: make: *** no rule to make target 'install'. Stop. Grazie e ciao. Mandrake is reporting that I have an Intel 82801 AC97 Audio Controller, and it is using the i810_audio driver, but the sound isn't working. I see that there is a way to switch to an ALSA driver, and I did that and it didn't seem to correct the problem so I am back ot using the OSS driver. I am trying to find out what type of sound card IBM says should be in my T23 laptop, and I haven't really found anything that is all that reliable on their site. The document, a 32-page presentation that bears a 2002 copyright mark, was apparently given by Michael Aday, a senior program manager at Microsoft. Palladium, which is currently named the Next Generation Secure Computing Base, is one variant of Trusted Computing, a set of operating system technologies being developed primarily by Microsoft, AMD, Intel, IBM, and HP. The technology has profound implications for privacy and for altering the balance of power among computer users, media companies, and software programmers. While Microsoft has attempted to pitch Palladium as a tool for protecting individuals' privacy, as the presentation makes clear, the technology could establish an infrastructure of unique user identification and tracking. A slide on Policy Issues reads in part: Since the Pd (Palladium) RSA key pair is unique to the platform, what steps should we take to defend against traffic analysis of user behavior? The next reads: The Issue: Palladium uses at least two sets of unique hardware keys . . . Essentially equivalent to unique machine identifiers. Trusted Computing does present some opportunity for greater computer privacy and security. For instance, the technology could improve encryption key storage, it would provide for a more secure boot process, and reduce the risk that keyloggers or other devices could intercept passwords or communications. However, the potential for control of computer users cannot be underestimated. Generally, it will reduce user control over the computer, resulting in software programmers being able to force upgrades, control which applications are approved to handle media, or even erase pirated content or applications. Depending on its implementation, the technology could eliminate online anonymity. It also could serve as the starting point for ubiquitous Digital Rights Management technologies. As Professor Ross Anderson has noted, Trusted Computing will be more trustworthy from the point of view of software vendors and the content industry, but will be less trustworthy from the point of view of their owners. In effect, the TCG specification will transfer the ultimate control of your PC from you to whoever wrote the software it happens to be running. Spamc is the client piece of SA that you send mail to, it then connects to spamd and gets the mail filtered. Spamc does not need to be started at all, you direct mail to it with procmail. My procmail file has a line | /usr/bin/spamc -f This lines tells procmail to pipe the mail message to the spamc client which interacts with the spamd process and then returns the message after the recipes have been applied and new headers have been added. If you are running Mandrake, I would advise you to install the Mandrake RPM's of spamassassin and then you can manually upgrade SA by downloading the newest version and either building it or you can install it using CPAN. -- Bryan Phinney Software Test Engineer Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Somebody scribbled about [newbie] Woot! Gimp 2.0 RPM's for Mandrake! http://www.pclinuxonline.com/modules.php?name=Newsfile=articlesid= 8291 Coolness. I tried the web page but can't get to ftp.ibiblio.org ATM. Will the athlon RPMS be included in contrib soon? I'll probably want to use my cooker mirror du jour (sunet.se) and just update via urpmi. -- David E.
