RE: Ripping With WMP
This suggestion was posted by Kevin Hourigan on a JAWS list. I can't vouch for them because I haven't tried them. 1. Open WMP, and it says Turn repeat on button . 2. Press Alt O, arrow down to options, and press enter. 3. Press control tab to rip CD page. 4. Tab around to what you want. -Original Message- From: Pc-audio [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Gary Petraccaro Sent: Sunday, June 07, 2015 11:36 PM To: PC audio discussion list. There is an option to rearange ripped tracks in folders using settings from the ripping settings. Rearrange music in rip music folder, using rip music settings. It is checked by default. Don't know where ripped files go when this isn't checked. Bob P.S. Not sure what to tell you. I had a cd that i ripped that had 17 tracks out of 20. I found the 3 tracks in a different folder called unknown. I organize my ripping method by artists directory, then album directory. I have found a few stray tracks in other places in these folders. WMP also moved things around when i had the option to find missing information. For example, I had a song that was on a compilation. WMP took the song and made a new directory and put that one track in there. When I saw the directory of the album name, and I knew I didn't own that album. Sure enough when I went to see what was inside the directory it was my missing track sitting there by itself with a totally different album name in the tag. So my advice, not the greatest, is too look around your music directory that all your wmp stuff goes in to. If it's a big mess try sorting your files by last date modified. This will tel lyou what folders have had changes made to them in the most recent to the oldest. Again not sure if i'm helping here or just making you pull out your hair. good luck bb - Original Message - From: Tom Kaufman tomca...@comcast.net To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Wednesday, June 13, 2012 1:04 PM Subject: Re: Ripping with WMP [was Re: An Odd Problem (at least to me!)] In my case, I also use Windows Media only to rip music; I then go to My Documents; then My Music; that's where my stuff usually will go if I've ripped music to my computer. RE: Ripping with WMP [was Re: An Odd Problem (at least to me!)]
Tom, For locating tracks in WMP, a tip I got from David Biales' manual is to switch between the library (on the one hand) and all the other options (on the other) with control-tab. Another way of saying this is if you find yourself overwhelmed by all the tab sequencing, as I do, just press control-tab and you should be at the start of the library. Keep tabbing from there perhaps three times, and a list should appear. -Original Message- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Tom Kaufman Sent: Wednesday, June 13, 2012 2:00 AM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Re: Ripping with WMP [was Re: An Odd Problem (at least to me!)] Well here's the thing: I know very little about how to navigate this WMP library! Re: Ripping with WMP [was Re: An Odd Problem (at least to me!)]
Hi Tom and all.
Hi Tom et al. Ok. One more shot at this thing and I will step off. If the track is miss labeled it might not even have the title or artist correct. In one of the examples I gave last message. My 17 tracks were ripped perfectly. There were 3 tracks I had to hunt down. I finally found them in other places 1 of them was labeled as track 1 for the title and the artist was unknown. WMP didn't no what to do with it. Like all ms products it tried to think for me and put it in the unknown folder under an album folder called unknown album followd by a random number or maybe it was the current date. There were a few tracks there from a few different discs btw. So why did this happen? Well when I removed the cd from my library and atempted to rip it again i used the search for cd information on the context menu of the cd name. I was presented with an edit box to either search or a place to manually type in any information. I did a search and sure enough my album was listed 4 different ways. Only 1 of these listings had the same number of tracks mine did, which again was 20, the other album listings only had 17 tracks. So, armed with this information I hope it helps you im one way or another. Another option of course is to use the search for information and go to the edit link to manually edit the track names and such. Then re-rip the cd with your new info added. The good thing about wmp, not to say anything about any other program is that it's fast, usually makes a good rip, puts proper tags (when it can find them) and names the files accordingly. Again I know many other programs do this too but For now I'm sticking with wmp. And again I will stress, no program I have found yet can tag mp3s like winamp. I am amazed sometimes how with little information that sucker can tell you what it is. Good luck and I'll shut up now. bb - Original Message - From: Tom Kaufman tomca...@comcast.net To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Wednesday, June 13, 2012 5:52 PM Subject: Re: Ripping with WMP [was Re: An Odd Problem (at least to me!)] But I do thank you for trying to help; forgot to say that before! The only other thing I'd suggest is trying to rerip it with another CD ripper, and see if that has any better luck. I know I use WMP first, but if WMP has any problems then I try CDEX to see if that does any better. For example, the other day I ripped a Gaelic Storm CD, and WMP didn't come up with the tags, so I ripped it with CDEX, which didn't have any problems finding the right tag information. On 13/06/12 19:23, Brett Boyer wrote: Hi Tom et al. Have you looked around for those tracks? Is it possible they ended up getting loaded in the library under another artist or album? Hi. I agree with Chris. A good place to check is the unknown folder if there is one. that or the various, or the unknown artist. When i rip a cd through wmp I actually search to see if there are multiple entries for the cd sometimes I'll find more than 2 or 3 versions. I can usually tell which is the correct version because track lists are different or the number of tracks are different. One more thing, IMO, winamp is a much better autotagger than wmp. bb - Original Message - From: Christopher Chaltain chalt...@gmail.com To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Tuesday, June 12, 2012 7:47 PM Subject: Ripping with WMP [was Re: An Odd Problem (at least to me!)] Have you looked around for those tracks? Re: Winamp Versus wmp Versus VLC Versus....
I use Winamp full time for just about everything except buy music or manage my iDevices, which I use iTunes for. I say this as Winamp can apparently manage your iPod in a limited way, but choose to use iTunes for that and Winamp for others. I know you didn't want anything to rip or burn, but I will pass the below on anyway. The free version of Winamp allows you to rip at a maximum of 8x in the M4A, or iTunes, format. I'm happy with this personally as M4a is the best compared to MP3 in terms of audio quality (excellent) and file size (smaller than even MP3). You can burn with the free version of Winamp as well but I think you are limited to 2x. Anyway back to the point. Winamp is fully accessible providing you use the classic not the bundled modern skin that it comes with. It works with all screen readers, with or without scripts or sets or whatever. I've been using Winamp since 2001, yes 2001, when I was on Windows ME and Winamp was 2.7x, something silly like that. I use 5.622 and it is still as accessible as the early days. There was one unsuccessful version of Winamp, Winamp 3, which was an absolute disaster in terms of accessibility, and almost turned to another player until I tried version 5.0x. Just some thoughts. Update on Winamp was Winamp versus wmp...
Ok folks. I have downloaded the latest version of Winamp. I thank all for their response but have not been able to reply to each and everyone but thank you all. As I said, I've downloaded the latest version and when installing I had three choices, light, standard and full. I opted for the full option, was that a mistake? Or would the standard or light have been a better choice? When I launch Winamp I get the set up dialogue but I'm not sure what it is asking me. The first thing I get is a long list of file types with check boxes, I assume you can either accept them all or uncheck any file type you don't want. I also get a option to enable Winamp agent, what is this? If someone could walk me through this I would be grateful as I don't want to accept stuff that is unnecessary and just confuses things. Hello Walter. All those checkboxes for filetypes are what you want win amp to be able to play. I usually just choose select all. From what I know standard should be fine. Also, and this is key. If jaws ever doesn't seem to be reading right odds are you have changed the skin by accident. You can only use the classic skin from what I know. You can change this easily by hitting control p for preferences and then s for skins and choose classic and hit enter. I'll throw a forth player into the discussion, I like Itunes, the people at GW Micro have - at long last - done a great job with the iTunes scripts and it works like clockwork. the software can be a little challenging for beginners but there are plenty of help guides and tutorials around. I mainly like iTunes I have to admit for the Smart Playlist feature where you can create aplaylist and literally programme it to play what you want to be played, for example if a song has been played over so many times, if a song was added on a particular date and so on. Uncheck Winamp Agent. - Original Message - From: Walter w...@blueyonder.co.uk To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Saturday, December 03, 2011 7:55 AM Subject: Update on Winamp was Winamp versus wmp... Certainly have, I know of at least a dozen other people using the plug-in who have noticed the difference but regardless of what I or others might think, howabout trying it for yourself and giving your ears a real treat! Ok in the first screen choose Winamp Classic and click next. On the next screen you can leave the file types alone but uncheck use Winamp Agent then click next. You might as well skip the rest and click finish to do so. On 03/12/2011 12:55, Walter wrote: Ok folks. I have downloaded the latest version of Winamp. Re: Update on Winamp was Winamp versus wmp...
I've just unchecked Winamp Agent because it's just another process I don't think I need running on my PC. I don't install enough media players, and I'm careful when I do, so I don't worry about my file associations getting taken over. That being said, it's a good precaution for anyone who is worried about it or has had a bad experience with losing their file associations. I haven't run it in a while, but I don't think there's an accessibility issue with JAWS. I'd be curious to know where FS recommends not running Winamp Agent. There's another utility called Winamp Remote, or something like that, which as I recall is not accessible and can get in your way of your winamp experience. It has something to do with controling winamp remotely. I've always unchecked this option. Winamp has a nice feature of remembering your settings from your previous install, and there's an option somewhere where you just tell it to install Winamp the same way you did before. This is nice because you don't have to worry about remembering which buttons to check and unchecked. Unfortunately, because of this, I can't recall which options I frequently unchecked! I like Winamp because I can always go to the title bar and tell what's playing. I have never figured out a way to get WMP to display that, unless I am looking in the wrong place. I like the Winamp Book feature, but I can't figure out a way to categorize things. To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
Re: Winamp Versus wmp Versus VLC Versus....
I haven't tried all of the players you mentioned. But I have used WMP, Real Player and Winamp; I like Winamp the best! For one thing, with Winamp, it's quite easy to get from point A to point B in a file; you can adjust the volume (without having to worry that you'll also mess up the volume of your screen reader (Real Player used to have that problem; they may have fixed that now) but for what I've used players for, I like Winamp! Re: Winamp Versus wmp Versus VLC Versus....
What are you looking for in a media player? I like Winamp because I can manage my local libraries, my portable media players and my podcasts. I also like the bookmarks feature and the ability to skip around in a file. Handling content over the internet isv't very accessible though. I like FooBar 2000 because it's interface is so simple. You can also manage local libraries with it. Setting it up is kind of tedious though, since you need to set up all of your own hot keys. I don't think it manages podcasts for you. It does come in a portable flavor though, which is nice if you want to run it off of a USB drive or SD card. I still pull up WMP occasionally, but that's mostly just to rip CD's. RE: Winamp Versus wmp Versus VLC Versus....
Hi. Well mainly I want other options other than the two I currently use. The ability to navigate with in a file and particularly the bookmark facility would be most helpful. My main concern is just how accessible the programme is with JAWS. Also, I understand there are plug ins for the programme, are they free or do they have a cost attached to them. Also, exactly what does the basic version offer? Does the ability to navigate within files and bookmarks come within the scope of the standard version or are scripts required to get full functionality from the programme. A blind person can use Gold wave without the scripts if they know what they are doing but to get the full benefit Scripts are really necessary for gold Wave, is Winamp the same? Finally, what other programmes have the Bookmark facility and ability to navigate within a file. One other thing I haven't mentioned but it would be helpful and that is the ability to play a very large folder of mp3 files in a jukebox fashion. At the moment I have a folder with just over 10,000 mp3 files in it. I have WMP set to shuffle mode and I merely select all then add to Windows media player and I can play music for hours without interruption. This folder is going to grow to 150,000 files and much more. I just wonder if Winamp will be able to handle that amount of files in a similar fashion. Walter Don't forget foobar2000 also. This is what I use for most of my playing. The downside is that you have to designate your own shortcut keys but this can be very easily done. Another interesting option for really a very small fee is Mapler which is a small media player written especially for visually impaired persons in mind. The amount you pay is neglible if you compare it to what you get for it. Just some other options to consider. Try taking the CD out of the Windows Media library (I don't exactly remember the procedure off the top of my head) but if you can accomplish this, then you should be able to re-rip the CD. Hey Brian. Well, this is a gigabyte motherboard recommended for audio use. the computer is from studio cat, which is highly recommended by many blind musicians. So it should be good. I will write to gigabyte and tell them about this. And since I'm having other issues. I will also write to studio cat. It is highly likely that some of my other issues are being caused by a faulty external hard drive. I notice that when that drive is turned off, I don't have some of the problems. Well the reference was actually two learning to use Windows 7, Windows media player 12, on a new computer with jaws 12. Having all kinds of issues and not knowing if they were related to the operating system jaws. The hardware or some combination. I'm finding using jaws with Windows 7. Just a bit frustrating. I hope I don't have to return the motherboard. I'd need to take it out of the computer, so better to send the whole tower back. Problem with that is, gonna cost me about 60 bucks to ship it as I bought it from an American company. And I live in Canada. I don't want to do that, but I will if I have to. Re: WMP 12 jaws 12 in Windows 7
Am I missing something? The subject refers to WMP 12 and JFW 12, but I don't see anything in the thread below that has anything to do with WMP or JFW! I'm not even sure Windows 7 is involved here. Now that I think of it, I don't see that it really has anything to do with PC Audio either. It's not my list, so I don't really care, I'm just wondering if I'm missing some earlier part of the thread or something. Re: sync in WMP 12
Hi Cornell, To manually sync files in wmp12: First add items to the sync list by selecting them in the main list, press the appliction key, open the add to sub menu, and choose sync list. ctrl+9 is the shortcut for adding to the sync list. Then tab to the start sync button and press it (alt+s). Note that the play, burn, and sync buttons change which list is shown after the main list. However, if for example you add a track to the sync list, as described above, then the sync list (together with the start sync button) is automatically shown. So normally you don't have to press the sync button before syncing items as described above. David. original message: using WMP 12 on Win 7 and JFW 12 latest build. WmP 12
I have window 7 home premium 64 bit with Windows Media 12. I have installed GOM Player as my default media player. I went to www.acidplanet.com to listen to some audio files. I can get their media player to come up but nothing is heard. I checked their help and they say if you have another media player as your default you are to uninstall WMP and reinstall it. they gave a link where you could download WMP. But on that page it says WMP 12 only come installed and not as a download. so how can I get WMP 12 set up so I can listen to files on this site? RE: Problems Ripping CD's in WMP-10
Hi John, Well here is what you could try. Open control panel. Then open system. Ctrl tab to hardware and tab to device manager and hit space. Now tab to the tree view, where you have all the physical items in your computer. Down arrow to cd and dvd drives, or whatever it's called, and right arrow to expand the branch. Now you down arrow once, and you are located on your Sony drive. Press enter, and the properties opens. If you control tab once to the advanced tab you have various options to look at. It depends on which drive which options are shown here, so can't guide you much further. But an importen thing to ensure is that it should be running in udma mode for best performance. You can also check the transfer settings for your drive under the disk controller. Hope this was guiding you in the right direction? Hi Mark, you could try using the seek slider, which you can quickly move to by pressing ctrl+tab one or two times. The arrow keys move you by one twentieth of the track length, and shift + arrow keys move you by one four hundredth of the track length, David. original message: Hi folks, For some reason I've got a problem with WMP version 11, in that I can't get any media to back up...the 'Rewind' button is always shown as unavailable. Normally I'm a Winamp user, but for some reason the protected files I'm trying to play seem to be causing a problem, or at least that's the only reason I can think for Winamp crashing, resulting in the whole system hanging. There WMA files if this sheds anymore light on the subject. TIA. Regards, Mark To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
Re: WMP Issue
David and Mark, Just tried David's suggestion regarding skipping around in Windows Media Player 11 and this works with arrow keys alone and with control or shift combinations. I also tried getting a WMA file to play in Winamp and wasn't successful. Here is a little more info on the problem: http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=190505 Matthew Original Message - From: David Bailes david_bai...@yahoo.co.uk To: pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Friday, August 14, 2009 12:50 AM Subject: Re: WMP Issue Hi Mark, you could try using the seek slider, which you can quickly move to by pressing ctrl+tab one or two times. Re: WMP Issue
David and Matt, Thanks a Mill for this - using the Seek bar indeed accomplished the task. From looking at the info on the Winamp forum page, the DRM is looking to be the issue. This doesn't surprise me, as I wasn't even able to acquire the license initially, where as in WMP it authorised no problem, which set alarm bells ringing in my mind regarding the Management Rights. Once again thank you! WMP won't play DVDs
WMP chokes when I try to play a DVD. It's fine with AVI, WMV, MPG, ETC. I associated VOB with WMP, I changed the display resolution and color depth to minimum values, and still no success. Registry Mechanic doesn't flag Registry errors. Anyone have a clue for me? Thanks. --- Dale E. Hi Mari, there's a Jaws guide to wmp 11 which is available at: http://tinyurl.com/2hwmrn It was written for wmp 11 running on Windows XP, but I think the only section which is different on Vista is the CD Drive Autoplay section. Thanks, and, btw, it turns out that I mis-customized the install. burning audio cds using WMP 11
I use Windows Media Player 11 to burn audio cds. However, I have a few questions about doing it: How do I find out the duration of the cd before anything is burned onto it? How do I find out the total duration of the audio tracks I want to burn? How do I find out the total size (preferably in megabites) of the audio tracks I want to burn? Come join my mailing list! Playing MPG with Winamp or WMP
A friend is desperately trying to play standard 48khz/192-bit MPG files with Winamp. He doesn't know if any picture is showing, but certainly there is no sound. I had him check to see if DirectShow was in use, and it is. I tried having install the AC3 default codec pack you get when you install the DivX video player from www.divx.com, also n.g. Any thoughts anyone? Jonathan Mosen List Founder Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: burning CDs with WMP
hi mark, the easistest way is to put your songs in a seperate folder and press the application key or context key to get into the context menu, and here choose the add to play list and press enter. then you can just stop the mp and press the burn botton or use the burning menu.
