I am running successfully Synology DiskStations with LMS.

On my Synology DiskStation DS1511+ the Logitech Media Server updates
were discontinued by Synology for a while but are back since DSM
6.1.4-15217, which includes an updated Logitech Media Server stable
version.

My Synology DiskStation DS416 with DSM 6.2-23739 includes Logitech Media
Server package version 7.9.1-168:

Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.1 – 1504317335 @ Mon Sep 4
22:13:00 UTC 2017
Perl Version: 5.24.0 – arm-linux
Database Version: DBD::SQLite 1.34_01 (sqlite 3.7.7.1)

Hi Awn,

sorry but I can't be much of a help here. If even the 2 packages failed,
provided by Synology, something is interfering with the LMS
installation. If a package does install but is not starting, we have
seen in the past that this was due to perl problems or port issues. DSM
6.2-23739 Update 2 and PERL 5.24.0-0071 is the standard and latest
installation. Also I haven't heard any other x86_64 NAS user having
similar issues.

What other packages have you installed on the NAS?

Greetings,

Martin

Hi,

I found this thread and this:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?107180-Synology-7-9-1-packages
Both are discontinued and offer no Repo für DSM5.

Why are all packages only for DSM6 here: http://server.pinkdot.nl/sspks/
?
Is there a way to Update LMS on DS214play with DSM5?

Until I got some issues with spotty plugin I've been happy with the
quite old 7.7.3-package of synology, but now ...

Would be happy for some advice. Thanx.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Test] Repo for LMS 7.9.0 on Synology DSM 5.*

2017-07-28 Thread chaohsi

Hi, first of all, thanks for providing the beta version to keep my LMS
alive. The official release 7.9.0 stopped working since someday I
upgraded to DSM 6.

The beta version of LMS (7.9.1-1492077569) is working well (almost) but
it crashes if I tried to play a folder from my Squeezebox Radio. When I
press the Play button on Squeezebox Radio when selecting a folder, LMS
stops after few seconds when playing the first song in the selected
folder, but if I entered the folder and select the first song then press
the Play button, it works fine.

The log only show some warning indicating fixed-point overflow, do you
have any idea to fix it?

I installed LMS on Synology NAS DS1813+ with DSM 6.1.3-15152 update 1.

Thanks,

Chao-hsi

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] [Test] Repo for LMS 7.9.0 on Synology DSM 5.*

2017-05-20 Thread takerna

My apologies if this has been mentioned before... I did a quick search
in the thread before posting but didn't find anything relevant.

To the best of my knowledge, DSDPlayer plugin only works on
Intel-powered Synology NASes, any update on this?

I've tried setting up a repo using an armv5el binary (the one by Ralphy,
here https://sourceforge.net/projects/lmsclients/files/utility/), it
installs OK on a DSM5 DS212j but the DSDplay plugin page says that the
version installed is not compatible with the server ("DSDPlayer does not
currently include a version that supports your server").

Any ideas? Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, I don't know if this will fix your issue. Your issue seems to be
more related to the database. In What way this might be releated to the
running plugins, I don't know. To rule out the Synology issue with root
access, you could install the LmsUpdate package (when it becomes
available this evening).

Did the problems start after applying the latest DSM update?

This might also be related to the transcoding issue. Synology has
increased the security level, which might be bugging us. I need more
time to look into this issue, as well as the transcoding issue. It looks
like they don't allow to execute files as root, from third party
packages. If this assumption is correct it clarifies the fact that
LmsUpdate doesn't have these issues. That said:

To fix your current problems, I have created a 'LmsUpdate 7.9.1 package'
(http://server.pinkdot.nl/test/?arch=x86_64) for you, using the
/volume1/SqueezeShare/ as cache location.
The only this you would have to do is:

- copy the complete cache folder to another directory
- remove LmsRepack
- install LmsUpdate
- stop LmsUpdate
- move the cache folder back to /volume1/SqueezeShare/
- start LmsUpdate

The good news: the new repo works. It showed an update, which I
installed. I am now at 1492077569.
The bad news: The DSD playback problem is unchanged.

Is there a log I can use to help solve the issue?

Unsuccessfully tried to play DSD (converting to PCM) tonight. The
players (SB3, Squeezelite) show DSD conversion active in the LMSSettings
/ Player / DSDPlayer menu:

"DSDPlayer will transcode DSD to PCM for this player. Use the settings
below to tune resampling parameters."

Playback of a DSF file starts, but no sound and playback is aborted
after around 4 seconds.

Is this a known bug?

No, but during download the file extension changed to *.tar.* That

Hi Rudi,

LmsUpdate = 7.9.0 = offical slimdevices community release status = no
longer receiving updates. This includes all architectures. LmsUpdate
will only see new light when Synology decides to update their current
Beta package to the 7.9.1 branch!

LmsRepack = 7.9.1 = slimdevices nigthly updates on a regular basis.
Currently for ARM and x86_64 based nas. Only DSM6 (6.0-7275 and up).

This means you could try LmsRepack on your Synology DS1815+. Stop the
current installation of LmsUpdate and test if LmsRepack runs on your
system. LmsRepack doesn't use your current cache folder, so you will
loose all settings, plug-ins and library.
I have a repo only, which you could add to your package center and see
if you find LmsRepack in the community tab. This might not be the case
because the repo software is not that good (still looking for an
alternative). If it does, install it. If it doesn't, just download it
like you used to do with LmsUpdate.

Martin

Because I don't want to interfere with Synology and their updates of
LMS, and because of the version update to 7.9.1, I started LmsRepack

Main difference is that LmsRepack has some modifications to the builds
to make it possible to install it alongside the Synology's package (as

The location of the cache folder is specified in several scripts outside
the LMS part of the package. Creating a separate file would still need
the creation of a separate package, so no. There is no need to change
this approach.

Please check if you see an update of LmsRepack if you add the following
repository to the Package Center:

http://server.pinkdot.nl/cache/

If, not, just download the update from that location.

2017-04-07 Thread Morbeas

No no, this plugin doesn't do anything for me. I've never even really
used it so I just disabled it. But for some reason I'm having other
weird issues with LMS recently, like artwork not showing on my mobile
controller and my ratings not registering with TrackStat. Also, what I
need Windows access to the cache directory is for muso, which is a
controller I use on my laptop. So yes, I'm always going to need that
access to the Cache directory. Would it be possible to have that
location in a separate file, like cache.xml or something? So you don't
have to keep making these custom builds for me?

Thanks very much.

Although you use LmsRepack: don't use the repo or any build from there!
You will loose all your settings/cache dir when you would update!

I'll will have some time this weekend to build 7.9.1 version for you.
Don't expect to see any changes, between your current build and the new
one are just a few bug fixes.

As Michael points out we have the 'luck' that Synology has updated the
perl version to 5.24. As you noticed this can have some effect on
plugins.

Will this missing plugin have any effect on your workflow with MusicIP?
In other words: do you still need an easy accessable cache directory?

Will I also get a new package, dear sir? For some reason LMSRepack is
acting very strange lately.

[17-04-06 20:04:26.5938] Slim::Utils::Misc::msg (1248) Warning:

All those warnings are not caused by LMSRepack, but by an outdated
plugin SongInfo, which doesn't cope well with the (probably) new Perl
version installed on the NAS.

No, that would only be possible if Synology would add this. If I would
be able to get the repository working again (LmsRepack), it would give
us automatic updates, but not based on the nightlies: this would still
need a server side build script, which is out of my league.

Than again, Synology still has some patches that we should take into
account when we creating updates. And to be honest, I don't see the
benefit of nighties vs the current approach.

I updated to package to the recently released version of 7.9.0. I
noticed some cpan modules related to the network, which are not in used
by Synology, so I removed those. But that's all I could find. Please
install the 1150 build and report if this fixes the issue.

controller. The Player isn't showing in the controller after a reset
either. The web interface is working fine.

There is a setting in LMS to ignore fileformats any fileformat you just
type *.cue in that setting or *.mp3 or what you fancy.
I just delete cue files or don't bother to create them when I rip . If
the separate flac files are properly tagged you have no use for the cue
( unless you live in the 90's and plan to burn a CD as an exact copy )

You were absolutely right! The problem were all the cue files! I moved
them all to a separate directory and all is well now, thank you so much!
Though I would still like to know if it's possible to have LMS ignore

I checked Task Scheduler and the only things in there are my backup
jobs. Nothing that might start and restart the LMS packages (yes, the
other package is still installed, by the way). I also checked and I do
have the Full Text Search plugin and went ahead and disabled it. What am
I losing by disabling that? Anything important? One other thing to note
about the crashes is that they seem to happen around the time I initiate
a muso LMS import. That might be why the last thing we see in the logs
is TrackStat activity. I'll ask the muso developer to look into that as
well, see if he can bring some new perspective into the whole issue.

Also, were you able to think about why LMS itself may be reporting
inflated track numbers?

Thanks again for all your efforts.

Hi Morbeas,

the logs you've sent me don't show very much. It looks like there is an
issue with one of Erland's plugins.
The serverlog shows that the last action came from Trackstat, before LMS
was restarted. This is something to start with.

Code:

[17-03-11 18:28:52.8880] Plugins::TrackStat::Storage::refreshTracks (1242)
TrackStat: Synchronizing TrackStat data, please wait...
  [17-03-11 18:29:58.6095] main::init (388) Starting Logitech Media Server
(v7.9.0, 1488878280, Wed Mar 8 04:07:31 UTC 2017) perl 5.024000 - x86_64-linux

Also check if the other LMS instance is still installed? Check Task
Manager if it is part of a start-stop script. If it starts it would
interfere with LmsRepack. Both use the same processes.
I can't help you with the Trackstat issue if that seems to be the case.
Only thing is that you can check is Trackstat has the permissions to do
its tasks. But to be honest, I wouldn't know why it would make LMS
crash.
Other thing I found is the issue with the Full text search plugin: if
enabled, please disable it.

Greetings,

Martin

2017-03-10 Thread Morbeas

Just as an FYI, the first screenshot shows a wildcard search from within
DSM (File Station) for all files ending with a .flac extension which
shows the result as 24,501. (my music library is all FLAc with the
exception of 2 albums (17 tracks). The second screenshot is the same
search with MP3 files. So as you can see, the two of them add up to
24,518, which is also the exact number reported by MusicIP (third
screenshot). The last screenshot is the number reported by the new LMS
installation. This was the same number reported by the original
installation as well, by the way.

Ok, that sounds great. I'll get everything installed and configured and
let you know how it holds up. Thanks again.

Now on to another problem that's been bugging me for ages. for some
reason, LMS shows that I have a total of 26,194 tracks where in fact the
actual number of tracks is 24,518. I have had this problem with the
original installation as well. I can't remember what caused the issue
but it wasn't always like this. I also run MusicIP server on my Synology
and that reports the correct number of tracks as 24,518. Is there any
way we can find out what causes this discrepancy? Why does LMS inflate
the number like this?

Good to hear!
As said this is a test package. Meaning it is good to do some testing if
everything is working and if you can use Muso as intended.
Second, if you want to use LMS like this, you don't want an LMS update
from Synology ruin everything. So running LmsRepack is the best option
if you don't want to change scripts inside the package yourself.
Just do some testing and let me know how you want to continu.

Have a good weekend,

Martin

The package will install LMS under another name on your server, no more
no less. And the cache folder will be moved to the requested share.

What version of DSM are you running exactly? You need at least firmware
"6.0-7275" or higher.
If another refresh won't help, just download the package from the

OK,here we go;-)

- Make sure /volume1/SqueezeShare/ is empty!
- Stop Lmsupdate/Logitech Media Server in Package Center. (No need to
uninstall, if things don't work out like intended, you'll still have the
original installation.)
- Add the following repository in Package Center -> Settings -> Package
Sources:

Name: LmsRepack
Location: http://server.pinkdot.nl/repack/

- In Package Center: got to General, and set Trust level: any
publisher.
- Refresh Package Center.
- Go to the Community tab in Package Center and install LmsRepack.
- After a succesfull install, you will find LmsRepack under
http://:*9009* and an icon with the same name in the Main Menu
of DSM. After setting up LMS you will find the Cache folder inside the
SqueezeShare share.

Let me hear how this turns out.

No, currently I reverted everything back to its defaults.

Edit: SqueezeShare is indeed the correct spelling. Thank you!

The 'SqueezeShare' can only be used if it's not in use by LMS at the
moment. So please confirm that the folder is not in use and I will
change the location to 'SqueezeShare'.

Make sure the folder is empty! Because the cache folder will be created
during install.

Greetings
Martin.

That would be awesome, pink! Would it be possible to customize the
location by any chance? Could I make it /volume1/SqueezeShare/Cache for
example?

Thanks again!

Hello Morbeas,

before we get to much off topic in the other thread, I moved the
discussion to here. There are several options to give Muso access to the
Cache folder. But none of the options is recommended! There are topics,
just Google, to mount the system partition to your Windows machine. As
said: this is NOT recommended!

Another option is to change the scripts of the Logitech Media Server
package. It is (partially) working.
I'm running LmsRepack again, which can be installed alongside the
current installation of Lmsupdate ( as long as just 1 instance is
running (!)). If you like I could create a test package for you. The
location of the Cache folder will in in the 'public share'.

Greetings,

Martin
