On second thought, putting files in a single folder with the filename =
artist name is problematic for special characters not allowed in
filesystems.

CORRECTION
Not an EMPTY folder with just bio but does work if you have an album by
the multiple artist i.e. LMS has found tracks in a scan and therefore
knows about the folder.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Music & Artist Information plugin

2019-07-25 Thread d6jg

I can tell you what happens with multiple artists because I tripped over
it the other day.

Artist/Album/Track structure

I have a number of albums by Frankie Miller - the Glaswegian Rock/soul
singer.
I was playing one of his albums and hit *i* for the Artist Bio which
returned the bio of an American Country artist also called Frankie
Miller.
Not having that I immediately created a bio.html which I popped into the
Artist folder

So I have
Frankie Miller/Album 1
Frankie Miller/Album 2
with the bio in Frankie Miller

I recently picked up a nice vinyl copy of The Rock also a Frankie Miller
album but actually credited to The Frankie Miller Band.

After ripping to FLAC this got placed into
The Frankie Miller Band/The Rock
but I had multi tagged the Album Artist field as "The Frankie Miller
Band; Frankie Miller"

If I play the album and go to Artist Information this is what I get

27771

If I choose Frankie Miller (Album Artist) I get the bio.html that I
created and put under Frankie Miller.
If I choose The Frankie Miller Band (Album Artist) I originally got
"empty" but now get an alternate bio.html that I popped into the folder
in question.

Conclusion
If you create empty folders but with the correct naming structure for
your multiple artists then I think it already works

Thanks for handling markdown - I find it much more convenient than
html.

As has been already mentionned in this thread, storing artist bio files
in the music folders directly creates lots of issues. Having them, as a
"last resort" in a single folder would have some advantages. I
understand there can be "homonyms" - but that is also true for artist

I can answer that

Assuming you have a folder structure of
artist / album 1
artist / album 2

Create bio.html and put it in “artist” folder

For specific album 1 review create review.html and place in album 1
folder etc

The html of review.html doesn’t currently render properly but Michael is
aware and will fix I’m sure.

Yes. Make sure it's "NLWhatever string". The separating tabs
are important. Using spaces would break the file.

If you want to see the updates without restarting LMS you should run it
with the --checkstrings parameter. That would refresh the strings every
second (if needed). Don't run this parameter under normal operation!

The code writing the files already does normalize file names. But I
understand you put a file in that folder yourself? You'd then have to
normalize it yourself. I would not recommend storing files in the cache
folder, but rather alongside the tracks instead (Song.flac.lrc).

I'm going to improve support for local lyrics, too, accepting *.txt in

Further thoughts.
The case sensitivity is only ever going to effect local files and I
created these files ONLY because of the and/& issue at ChartLyrics. This
is going to be a very rare situation (hopefully) so it is not worth any
further development as can easily be corrected with repeat correctly
named files, symlinks or album re-tagging when it rears its head.

Michael.

I know I'm pushing the boundaries of MAI a bit here. If local lyrics are
case sensitive and correcting would mean a major re-write and slow
things down then don't do it. I can easily symink or similar when I come
across them.

That said you could modify the code that writes the local lyric file to

I have been experimenting with local manually created lyrics - it
appears that the MAI lookup to same IS case sensitive

Hmm... that one might require some re-working, as I'm currently relying
on the OS function (which is case sensitive or not, depending on the
OS). Rather than going through all of a folder's files and compare
names, I tell the OS to give me the file named XYZ. Going through the
full list should work, but might be relatively slow, if there were many
files in a folder.

The bio files display correctly as HTML i.e. "Bold" is displayed

the review.html file LMS renders everything as plain text and does not

That should be improved in a next release. Thanks for the heads up.

As a separate point. Is there any way of hand coding a hyperlink inside
a local bio or review file such that it calls and opens the relative
album or artist entry from within the LMS database ?

Unfortunately I wouldn't know of any such possibility. The best I could

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Music & Artist Information plugin

2019-07-22 Thread d6jg

I have been experimenting with local manually created lyrics - it
appears that the MAI lookup to same IS case sensitive

My Layla album example where I manually created a folder called "Derek &
The Dominos" and manually created each track's lyrics.
Lyrics saved as "Key to the Highway.txt"

3 album variants with 2 tagging variants as

Key to the Highway - works
Key To The Highway - fails

I suspect "Key to the highway" would also fail

Can you please modify to remove case sensitivity at some point?

Cheers

Sorry to be a pain but can you further clarify something for me.

I created some local bio.html and review.html files.

The bio files display correctly as HTML i.e. "Bold" is displayed
as *Bold* and text is justified across screen window width however in
the review.html file LMS renders everything as plain text and does not
justify the text across the width of the screen but instead inserts
character returns quite oddly. This applies to both the default skin and
to Material which leads me to believe that the MAI code for local
review.html is stripping HTML from the file.

As a separate point. Is there any way of hand coding a hyperlink inside
a local bio or review file such that it calls and opens the relative
album or artist entry from within the LMS database ?

PS I hope you had a good holiday if that is where you were.

I'd imagine the untranslated strings are from Material. If you look in
-MaterialSkin/HTML/material/html/lang/[i] you will see some [i].json-
files. These are simple JSON files that map from the untranslated to the
translated version of strings. The name of the file is

Material Skin. Can someone point me to where I can translate the
strings? I have tried to see the MAI plugin but I could not find it in

I've updated the skin (0.9.1 just released) to only pass album_id if
this is known, and not the other parameters. Looking at the MAI code, it
appears if only this is passed then MAI uses this to lookup the other
parameters itself. Which works-around the issue. Not really sure if its
a Material or MAI issue, but should be resolved now.

Ok, I probably should give the id priority over any other value. Thanks

By pure chance Craig’s code elsewhere produces exactly the result I’d
wish to see ie displays first entry in database from Album Artist
entries.

Recent MAI developments and Material are the two most significant things
in LMS since Spotty!

How are you creating the multiple album-artists? As repeated tags? Or 1
tag with a separator? e.g. "A;B;C" (does it have spaces?) If you detail
the tags of the invalid song (artist, album-artist, album, title), I
should be able to add these to a file and fake the track. I can then
feed this into LMS...

Multiple Album Artists is more common than you might think. It allows
you to "file" an album in different places in your library - my example
always being B.B. King & Eric Clapton, Riding With The King. Where
should it go ?

It appears in my library under B.B. King and also under Eric Clapton as
well as B.B.King & Eric Clapton. As long as the track artist is
correctly B.B. King & Eric Clapton then under Material everything looks
fine - until now.

I assume that picture is from the ablum lists, if so there is no parsing
- I jsut ask LMS for the 1 entry. No on purpose, never occured to me to
ask for me. Not sure why you would want more than 1 album-artist -
multiple artists I can understanda, but not album-artist. But anyway,
that's jsut pesonal preference. Aso to the issue, I'll have to play more
later. Looking at the MAI code though does imply album_id should be
sufficient - as it uses this to look up the other fields.

Going back to here - isn't the issue more likely to be that your code is
collecting the artist incorrectly. Here it shows an array of "Jeff Beck,
Rod Stewart, Ron Wood" when elsewhere you parse only the first element
of the array i.e. the first Album Artist tag in the database. Certainly
in the Album view in Material I see only "Jeff Beck" whereas the default
GUI shows me the three tags as separate entities

Instead of copying the command, you can just try the following (assuming
you have curl installed) in a terminal window (e.g. windows "Command
Prompt") :

Code:

  curl http://SERVER:9000/jsonrpc.js --data-binary
'{"id":1,"method":"slim.request","params":["",["musicartistinfo","albumreview","html:1","album_id:"]]}'

With SERVER replaced by your LMS server ip/address, and with the
album_id value from the call above (you need to ckick the triangle next
to params to exapand)

This would be the call to copy. Also, I did those steps in Chromium - so
should be possible in chrome. Just right click on the "jsonrpc.js" entry
in the list on the left, this will produce a context menu.

I think you have hit the nail on the head. When calling "albumreview" on
MAI, I pass in the artist, artist_id, album and album_id. However, by
looking at the MAI code it would appear ony album_id is required. Can
you try the following:

- Start material
- Add the track from the album with issues to the queue
- Open your browses developer tools
- In the dev tools, navigate to the 'Network' tab
- Play, then pause, song, but do not show info just yet
- Clear logged network calls in the "Network" tab - there should be a
clear, or trashcan', icon. (This step is to jsut reduce the noise)
- Now press the 'i' icon
- in the network tab you should see the requests set to the LMS. In
chrome, you would see a list with 3 aentries that have just
"jsonrpc.js". Click on each until you see -params: ["",
"musicartistinfo", "albumreview"- in the "Headers" section (under
Request Payload). (You might need to expand "params" to see if its the
  correct one).
- Once you have the correct call, on the left hand list (jsonrpc.js)
right click and select "Copy / Copy as cURL"
- Go to a console window, and paste the text you just copied
- Run the command. It should return the 'could not find' response
- Now run the command again, but this time change
-["musicartistinfo", "albumreview", ]- so that it just has
"album_id:" (where is the id in the call). e.g.
  -["musicartistinfo","albumreview","html:1","album_id:44303"]-

Does the 2nd call now return the correct info? If so, that proves
"album_id" is sufficient.

I should have added that the above example is a local file tagged with
Album Artist as "Jeff Beck" and "Rod Stewart". These seems to be the
cause of the *i* lookup failure but clearly there is a subtle code
difference between how the lookup is called via *i* and how it is called
via More / Album Info / Album Review. The latter seems to always work
whereas the former only works if the is a single Album Artist.

Is this actually a Material issue?

Album Review from Material's *i* button fails but the same Album Review
lookup accessed via More works.

This seems to be very consistent but I can't prove it.

I think this proves that and/& does cause issues.

I do understand that there's a problem. But if it's not a technical
error (bug in the code), there's little I can do. If services decide to
use "and" instead of "&" or vice versa, then that's their decision. It's
unfortunate that they seem to handle this inconsistently, which leads to
different spelling finding results on one service but the other.

I could certainly try both spellings. But that could easily get out of
control: you already tested four variations. And you didn't notice that
the plugin might have run eight queries for the Lyrics alone, as there
are multiple sources. And that's just for English.

For cases like this it's probably worth storing the information as local
files.

@ michael

I tagged Bell Bottom Blues by Derek & The Dominos for Layla and Other
Assorted Love Songs in 4 different ways. I didn't choose the track Layla
as that is in ChartLyrics twice - once by Derek and the Dominos (their
style) and once by Eric Clapton. I didn't want confusion.

27674

I then played each noting the results which are (from the UK jury) as
follows

The first 2 columns represent how the track has been tagged for Artist
name & Album name

27675

I think this proves that and/& does cause issues.

If you would like the 4 files for testing purposes please shout.

This implies, that whilst the PNG file might be square, the image is not
- as it just has transparent borders. If true (can't check at the
moment), then this is not useful to Material, as the real image still is
not square. What I was originally saying, was that it'd be -nice- if MAI
could choose the most square-ish of its images as the one to return -
then any cropping would have minimal effect.

Good question.
I am not able to repeat my tests now but will do so later.

If there is “&” in the album title the album review lookup fails as
AllMusic expects it to be Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs.

Does it fail because AllMusic wouldn't recognize the & as "and", or is
there a query failure?

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Music & Artist Information plugin

2019-07-06 Thread d6jg

@michael

FYI

I have been doing more testing of MAI and regrettably I can report the
“and/&” issue is the main cause of lookup failure. My issues were
nothing to do with multiple Album Artist tagging after all.

I retagged the track Bell Bottom Blues by Derek & the Domines from Layla
and Other Assorted Love Songs in various different ways.

If there is “&” in the album title the album review lookup fails as
AllMusic expects it to be Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs.

Lyrics only appear if the artist is tagged as Derek and the Dominos as
that is how it’s stored at ChartLyrics.com

The and the are not an issue as you said.

Cheers

I see that in Material with the Qobuz plugin. When displaying all tracks
on an album, the additional links and information look like tracks too:
Artist, Genre, Duration, Tracks count, Released at, Music Label,
Copyright. Some can be clicked for more information.

I'm not going to do that for every artist in the artist list - just too
slow. Currently, if MAI is installed, I'm just using
"/imageproxy/mai/artist/$ID/image$SIZE" as the URL to an artist's image.
Making a JSONRPC call per entry in the artist list is just too much
over-head for an issue I don't have. Hence stating, it'd be -nice- if
the MAI URL returned a square image.

Re: [SlimDevices: Plugins] Announce: Music & Artist Information plugin

2019-07-04 Thread d6jg

I have re-tagged Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs as such and now the
artist and lyrics lookups both work but the album review doesn't and I
now know why.

The artist & lyrics lookup use the track artist but sensibly the album
review uses album artist.

My problem is that in common with a lot of others the album artist is
tagged thus

Derek & The Dominos; Eric Clapton

This creates two Album Artist entries in the database and will show the
album under both.

What needs to happen for the album review to work is for the lookup to
use only the first album artist item in the database. I suspect it tries
to use a combination of both or perhaps the last item?

When Craig first started developing Material I was very pleased to note
that he only used the first item in his listings.

27641

Despite the ordering below I can assure you that as far as mp3tag is
concerned the tag is coded the other way around.

27642

@Michael - now I understand what is going on I don't think my slightly
unusual use case warrants asking you to change the code unless you feel
it is appropriate to do so

Not sure you are 100% right about case sensitivity. I manually created
the lyrics to Layla in a folder called "Derek & The Dominos" and
obviously they now appear.

As regards "and/&" perhaps best to leave it for albums if it slows down
the lookup significantly as there can't be that many album titles with
it in. Band names however .

Derek & The Dominos - Layla from Layla & Other Assorted Love Songs

MAI finds the Artist Bio, but no album review and no lyrics.

I THINK its because I have artist tagged as "Derek & The Dominos"
whereas ChartLyrics shows "Derek & the Dominos".

In relation to the Album review AllMusic has "Layla and Other Assorted
Love Songs" - & for "and"

Do you already have a regular expression check on Artist Bio lookup for
"the" and "The" ?

Nowhere near as much as before but there are still glitches from time to
time.

I'm certainly not in favour of the "download at library scan"
suggestion. I have over 33,000 tracks!!
I would however really like to have lyrics for all Beatles tracks for
example so an option that downloads lyrics when tracks are played
without MAI being open on the Lyrics page would achieve this over time
no matter what player or control mechanism I was using at the time.

That said I think the biggest annoyance is where I am playing Spotify
tracks in a DSTM/LastMix session combined with local library.
As an example MAI today found lyrics for "The Best Days of My Life" Rod
Stewart from Blondes Have More Fun from my local library but later
failed to find them for "The Best Days of My Life - 2008 Remaster" from
the same album on Spotify which DSTM/LastMix had added but which I
appreciate its not likely to and I am definitely not suggesting that you
even attempt to strip the surplus part of the title as there would be
far too many regular expressions to test for.

The original suggestion was just a thought.

just find it annoying when I flip to lyrics for a well known song and
there is nothing available because ChartLyrics is having an off day.

I had realised the work around which I can do in my office when working
on PC but its not as easy when no PC is on and I am doing more serious
listening in the evenings where I'm using an SB Touch or SB3

I do however appreciate your point of view and of course the work you
put in anyway.

Cheers

Me too - unless they make sense, as in this case.
How does this make sense? You only need the lyrics when you want to read
them, right? Or you want to have them all. But then there must be better
tools than listening to all your library in order to download them...

With regard to the Lyrics store which is working great btw. Can this be
changed slightly so that there is an option to always download lyrics as
tracks are played even if you don't open the lyrics page in MAI?

E.g.
Download Lyrics ? - choices = Always / When Displayed / Never

Just looked at material and it does a great job, I have to get to 'E'
before I found a pic that I thought was unacceptable. It would be great
if this scheme could be added to the standard scheme, it would clean up
my pics with very little effort from myself.

Yeah, I can see its not ideal. It would be nice if MAI also looked for
the most square-ish image for artist lists.

Thanks for the replies. My though was as I have 1760 artists, if the
photos were zoomed and say 10% looked wrong then I would only have to
re-download 176 photos rather than a lot more to get they all square.

Will take a look at material, thanks

While cropping in itself is simple, determining where (and if at all -
you may remove half of the band) is anything but. You'd need some kind
of face detection algorithm, and even this would would fail if there
isn't a face in the artist photo (e.g. it's a band logo instead).
Illustration:

Automatically mutilating the photo and then having the user repair it
seems less than ideal.

Now I have all the right pictures I was wondering how to get them all
square without having to process each and everyone of them. Would it be
possible for the plug in to do that? ie with a picture where x doesn't
equal y to take the smaller dimension and crop the other dimension to
that around the mid point of the photo? I thin that would make the
photos look neater and most would look just fine. If any look weird I
could re-download but that would take far less time.

What do you think?
