[Texascavers] TCR Survey Contest Results 2022

2022-10-17 Thread David Ochel

Hi all,

This year's Survey Contest involved an about 110 meter long loop of
eight stations to be surveyed with Suuntos and tape. The course included
going through a flood water culvert, dealing with a survey shot that was
longer than the provided survey tape, and a station located on a steel
railing.

Cait McCann-Terán and Oscar Berrones made 1st place with a loop closure
error of 1.39 meters; yielding them cash prizes of $30 each, a survey
pouch full of GGG goodies, a copy of Bill Steele's book Huautla, and a
rare Caveskinz pouch. Team Rutherford's loop closure error would have
been 0.46 meters, had they not flipped the vertical direction in the
recording of a back sight shot (and who hasn't before?). As reward for
making 2nd place Ron, Barb, Ashley, Rick, and Kevin got cash prizes of
$20 each, as well as a number of GGG goodies.

Many thanks to our main sponsors: the DFW Grotto for the donation of
cash prizes, and Gonzo Guano Gear for survey pouches and a whole host of
other goodies. Thanks also go to Andrea Croskrey for helping to design
and set up the survey course, and Dale Barnard for helping with
crunching the numbers.

Cheers,
David

[Texascavers] TCR Friday Night Wine Tasting

2022-10-03 Thread jranzau
There might be a Texas Caver Gathering, Speleo Olympics, Meetings, and an
Auction. We can’t know for sure.

What we do know is that we’re bringing back the official - unofficial Friday
night wine tasting at TCR! 10/14/22

We’ll be up top nearish to the vendors and other groups. Starts around dark 30
or really whatever time we get ourselves together.

Look for the group of cavers loitering around a table with more wine bottles
than seems reasonable.

No official group food but someone usually brings snacks. Be like that person,
wine goes better with snacks!

If you don’t drink wine, you do you and bring what ya like. We’ll judge but
we’ll still “taste” with you!

[Texascavers] TCR and TCMA

2018-10-16 Thread Denise P
Howdy, well it's wet out there but hopefully drying up some for TCR which is
this weekend at the lovely Paradise Canyon! TCMA will be there and looking
forward to seeing you!

On Friday night, we will be wine tasting and celebrating Bill Steele's
birthday, rumor has it there will be awesome live music by the Gary Franklin
Band (or at least some of its members)! This is not an official TCMA function,
but will be well attended by our members.

Please stop by our table/booth throughout the weekend. We love new
members/renewals and will be selling t-shirts, including the annual event
t-shirt by the talented Chris Vreeland! There is limited internet and cell
reception at the campground, so we are hoping folks bring cash (or check).

On Saturday at noon, we will have our members meeting. We will discuss the
upcoming board election and hopefully introduce some prospective new board
members. Bring your lunch and hang out with us! Should last about an hour or
so. Location TBD, usually near the office.

>From 11 am to 5 pm on Saturday, TCMA will sponsor the Ropes Challenge headed
>by Ken Demarest. This should be interesting, so come on by to either
>participate or watch; there's a fabulous prize for the winner!

Unfortunately, the wet weather has prompted us to cancel our art silent
auction. We don't want those lovely works of art getting soggy! We appreciate
all the support donors have shown us! We will make up for it at Spring
Convention!

And wrapping it up on Sunday morning from approx. 8 to 10 am, we will be
serving breakfast, suggested donation of $5 (plus) per person. Breakfast tacos,
coffee, juice, fruit, yogurt, that kind of thing! Please bring your own cups,
plates, utensils. Save a tree!

Looking forward to seeing you lovely people there! Cavers ain't afraid of no
rain or mud!

Cheers,
Denise Prendergast

Re: [Texascavers] TCR Caver Storytelling Contest

2018-10-11 Thread Logan
Excellent Idea! We should have been doing that for years. The 3 minute
rule is understandable, but there are many memorable stories that won't
be told using that time frame.

The DFW Grotto is hosting a Caver Storytelling Contest at TCR. Come

with a caver whistle blast to tell you your time is up. Time-left
cards held up with 2 minutes to go and at 1. To be video recorded to

the TCR honchos. Location information will be available at the TCR

[Texascavers] TCR reminders

2018-10-10 Thread Jim Kennedy
The 2018 Texas Cavers Reunion starts in one week, at Paradise Canyon Campground
west of San Antonio. If you haven’t been there before, you should Google it for
directions. You can start arriving Thursday evening, but registration won’t be
open until Friday. Please stop by registration as soon as you can. EVERYBODY
that is on the property needs to sign a waiver for the campground.

We have a jam-packed slate of events for the weekend, culminating in a
space-themed parade and banquet. Please wear a costume and join in! You’ll
have ample opportunities to support your favorite Texas caving organizations on
Vendors Row, swim and kayak on the adjacent river, or just chill with your
friends. Bring your own plates, cups, bowls, and utensils for the banquet, and
bring cash or checks for registration, shopping, and donations to TCMA for
their fundraising breakfast on Sunday. There is no phone service or WiFi in the
campground. More details and last-minute announcements are always posted on the
TCR Facebook page, so please check that out. See you there!

For those of you living under a rock (and there are always a few, after all,
we’re cavers!), the 41st Texas Cavers Reunion is almost upon us. Dates are
18-21 October. Location is once again the beautiful Paradise Canyon campground
west of San Antonio (http://paradisecanyon.com/). Registration costs are the
same as last year: $30/adult, $15/child, $80/family, $15/old timer, and $20
pass with no food. Your registration fee helps pay for the site, the
porta-potties, and the Saturday banquet (unless you opt out), and also gives
you access to the biggest Texas caver event of the year, with fellowship, a
parade, contests, vendors, sauna, TSA and TCMA meetings, riverfront camping,
TCMA fundraising breakfast, wine tasting (bring wine!), door prizes, and so
much more. Check out the TCR Facebook page for the latest updates. Maps and
directions will be posted in future emails. Young and old, beginner and expert,
active and armchair, if you are a caver living in Texas, lived in Texas, or can
spell “Texas,” this event is one you shouldn’t miss!

We will check on this. I am helping Jim this year, and it's a first for both of
us.

I seriously doubt anyone would be thrown out for not wearing a wrist band. This
is the first I have heard of this. Cavers are known to be a flexible and
tolerant group, and we will certainly work with anyone who has financial
hardship.

A few folks have asked, and the theme this year is SPACE. As in aliens, stars,
planets, space ships, astronauts, NASA, Star Wars, etc.

And in case you have not heard, TCR is Oct 18-21at Paradise Canyon, 2220 County
Rd 2615, Rio Medina, TX 78066. Their phone number is 830-751-9911. TCR has a
Facebook page, and you can email me or Jim directly with questions,
suggestions, jokes, or praise.

Volunteers are loved and appreciated. Do what you can, please. Look forward to
seeing everyone there!

Not to pile on too much onto this discussion, but I have a different yet
related question.

What are the insurance liabilities that Paradise Canyon and/or TCR may have if
someone has an accident during the event, but didn't purchase a wristband and
sign the liability waiver?

Perhaps we simply need to require people to at minimum check-in and sign a
liability waiver and let Paradise Canyon and the event organizers know that you
are there. Let people that can't afford the registration decide to donate
whatever amount of money they think is reasonable.

I know of several people that have in the past paid for other people's
registration fees for TCR and the TSA Convention. Don't let the fact that you
don't have any money right now stop you from accepting help from your fellow
cavers. We want to see you all there this year, if possible.

Re: [Texascavers] TCR Registration history

2018-08-29 Thread Diana Tomchick
Not to pile on too much onto this discussion, but I have a different yet
related question.

What are the insurance liabilities that Paradise Canyon and/or TCR may have if
someone has an accident during the event, but didn’t purchase a wristband and
sign the liability waiver?

Perhaps we simply need to require people to at minimum check-in and sign a
liability waiver and let Paradise Canyon and the event organizers know that you
are there. Let people that can’t afford the registration decide to donate
whatever amount of money they think is reasonable.

I know of several people that have in the past paid for other people’s
registration fees for TCR and the TSA Convention. Don’t let the fact that you
don’t have any money right now stop you from accepting help from your fellow
cavers. We want to see you all there this year, if possible.

people out for not registering. Is this what the community has devolved into?

There are a few cavers who always attend TCR, TSA Convention, etc. who pride
themselves on not paying. I know who they are. When I would see them, at TCR, I
would sometime make a comment to them, sometimes not. These are the same people
who would pride themselves out of paying a $1 fee on TSA projects.

There are also cavers who paying the TCR registration would be a huge financial
burden due to hard times. I usually had a pretty good idea of who those were.
All they had to do was ask and I would comp them registration. I get it, I've
had hard times too. Some of them were too proud to ask. I knew that too. I
would have NEVER thrown those people out of TCR. They are part of the community.

I always heard people complain that they should not have to pay because they
don't want to eat the meal. That's is a good point but the cost of the meal is
only a small part of the registration fee. I've had people ask me to have a fee
that doesn't include the meal. To them, I answered that the more complicated
registration becomes that harder it is to get people to do it and the easier to
make mistakes.

That said, here's why you SHOULD register for TCR, TSA Conventions, etc. These
events require money. We have to pay for the site, we pay for portapotties, we
pay for many incidentals. If you are one of those people who think you are too
good to pay or it is a game not to pay, you are basically stealing from other
cavers. You are directly responsible for raising the price for all of the
cavers who pay. They costs are fixed for many of these events. The cost is
divided among those who attend and pay. If you don't pay, your portion of the
cost, your portion of the cost is passed on to other cavers. If you choose not
to pay, at least thank all the people who did pay for paying your share as well.

"Throw people out" for not registering, bad idea. Shame them a bit, I'm fine
with that. I am no longer running TCR so I don't really have any say in how it
works. In the past, TCR has always been about bringing cavers together, the new
cavers and us old cavers. TCR has been about friends getting together and
hanging out. TCR has always been about seeing old friends and making new ones.
However, if "throw them out" is the spirit of the "new" TCR, perhaps it is time
to end this long running tradition.

I agree with Gill agreeing with Alan and Linda. Additionally, I have quite
often given extra money at registration when I could to help offset for some

I’m looking forward to TCR. I missed it last year because I was one of the

miss because it’s the only time I can truly relax and be among people I

During the time I ran TCR and when I helped Gil while he was running it I do
not remember a single instance of anyone being "thrown out" of the TCR, ever.
There were a number of cooks and cooks helpers who got comped in because they
were workers on the event. They spent their time doing those things that make
TCR run and not "hanging out" There were other prominent individuals who
contributed in vast and underappreciated ways. We showed our gratitude to them
in other ways. TCR always broke even so it was never about money. If we had
folks who for what ever reason didnt "register" it wasnt really a big issue. We
had plenty to do without worrying about that. We tried to have as few rules as
possible.

William Russell once remarked that one of the beautiful things about TCR was
that it is the closest thing to a real working anarchy you can have. It more or
less runs itself. People know what needs to be done and do it. Cavers are good
about seeing something that needs doing and they do it with very little
compunction. Just a little guidance is all. Gil was better at that than I was.
His advice was "keep you hand lightly on the wheel" let it run itself. This
generally works fairly well. We tried very hard to keep the event light hearted
and fun. I have nothing but great compliments for the folks who have organized
the event for the last few years because they have continued to come up with
new things like the parade that embellish that tradition.

I dont think that I can ever fully explain what TCR means to me. I get to see
friends I have known more than 45 years. Some I see that once or twice a year.
some I havent seen in decades. I get to see caver kids I watched grow up
raising their own kids. Couple years ago one of those "kids" said "I bet you
remember me when I was that little" I did. Caving is a team based adventure
sport that thrives on camaraderie. TCR is a celebration of those friendships
and the richness of the many years of memories.

The cavers I grew up with were also very "non-status" oriented. That is hard to
explain and I dont see it as strong these days but nobody tried to set up rules
and make others follow them. Of course there was basic safety and competence.
You had to get voted in by the grotto member to be a "regular" member. but then
you could, check out ropes, lead trips ect

Last year at TCR there was someone who was stalking around the cam being a
"wristband nazi" who appointed them to that I dont know. They werent having a
good time, unless hassling folks was their fun. I also know that Registration
wasnt open a large part of the time. I know folks who had a difficult time
finding somebody to give their money to. If people are willing to work at
registration I say let them decide if they want to be there late Friday night /
Sat morning, ect. If this is a issue then the organizers ( god rest their
souls) should recruit a larger group to do this. It is one of the most onerous
tasks of the event and anyone willing to spend their time on it deserves some
slack.

TCR doesnt really run itself, there are hundreds of tasks that have to be done.
A lot of it happens before the event, the hidden part of the iceberg. Everyone
has ways the help out, some visible, some hidden. We have created a unique

raising their own kids.

If people are willing to work at
registration I say let them decide if they want to be there late Friday night
/Sat morning, ect.

We have created a unique
cavers event word of which has spread all over the country. Let us continue to
strive to make it the most enjoyable fall weekend you can ever have

that doesn't include the meal. To them, I answered that the more complicated
registration becomes that harder it is to get people to do it and the easier to

pay for portapotties, we pay for many incidentals. If you are one of those
people who think you are too good to pay or it is a game not to pay, you are
basically stealing from other cavers. You are directly responsible for raising
the price for all of the cavers who pay. They costs are fixed for many of these
events. The cost is divided among those who attend and pay. If you don't pay,
your portion of the cost, your portion of the cost is passed on to other
cavers. If you choose not to pay, at least thank all the people who did pay for
paying your share as well. "Throw people out" for not registering, bad idea.
Shame them a bit, I'm fine with that. I am no longer running TCR so I don't
really have any say in how it works. In the past, TCR has always been about
bringing cavers together, the new cavers and us old cavers. TCR has been about
friends getting together and hanging out. TCR has always been about seeing old

Re: [Texascavers] TCR Registration volunteers!

2018-08-29 Thread Crash Kennedy
Allan made some excellent points. People that attend TCR without paying
are stealing from others, short and simple. Even the organizers, cooks,
and other volunteers pay. I pay, and so does my family, and I'm running
the whole circus this year. Dozens of people work long hours hauling
trailers, running registration, cooking, setting up (and cleaning up) the
mud wrestling pit, organizing Speleolympics events, maintaining of the
sauna area, cleaning and restocking porta-potties, taking care of Vendors
Row, and on and on. They don't even get a chance to fully enjoy the whole
TCR experience like the non-volunteers do, and still they pay their
registration fees. We have even come up with several options to make this
even less of a financial burden to attendees, including an Old Timer
discount and a non-banquet option. We GET that there are still some folks
who are undergoing real financial hardship, and if they come talk to us we
can work something out, as Michael said. We're not trying to keep anyone
away from TCR, just the opposite. We want this to be an event for ALL
cavers, young and old (and future!), active and inactive, Texas residents
and former residents. But it costs money these days to put on the kind of
show that people have come to expect. We're not in the 70s any more, for
better or worse.

Heather has been doing a great job maintaining the TSA records and handling
registration, usually by herself. It is unfair for folks to be beating up
on her for doing her job. If you don't like something, volunteer a while
and see the other side of the situation before offering public criticism.
With all the caving organizations around here (grottos, TSA, TCMA, TSS, and
so forth), it is increasingly difficult to attract good volunteers to
fulfill the necessary roles of officers, board members, and committee
chairs. And the criticism, which seems more prevalent in today's digital
world, makes those positions even less appealing to potential candidates.
To deviate from the TCR topic just a bit, I have seen a fair bit of
complaining about the recent lack of *The TEXAS CAVER*. If you want to see
a magazine, submit articles, people! As for registration, I hope more
folks step up to volunteer for a shift, to spread out the workload so that
everyone gets to enjoy a bit more of TCR. I'm going to be up to my
eyeballs in crap all weekend long, but I will volunteer for a shift myself
if no one else does. And there are cookies! And don't forget to sign the
liability waiver for Paradise Canyon, even if you don't pay.

I look forward to TCR every year, and budget both my time and my money to
be able to participate. I also support the TCMA fundraising breakfast,
help set up and sell pubs at the TSS bookstore, and attend the TSA and TCMA
meetings. And I still have fun at the wine tasting, parade, contests, and
hot tub. I get a lot out of TCR and the Texas caving community in general,
and feel that I am giving something back so that others can also enjoy
those experiences. Cavers are usually pretty generous folks, so hopefully
this discussion about selfish, non paying TCR attendees is a bunch of
rhetoric about a non-issue.

Really? i have seen people go to registration half a dozen times before
catching somebody to take their money.
Better start registration early so the people who arrive and help set up
can register. And start looking for volunteers to be the Wrist Band Nazi
Patrol !

I remember TCR days when if a family or person had a difficulty situation
they were given reduced registration.
I adamantly believe all should pay and have called people out who did not.
But perhaps consider practicality of demand, tone and result you really
want vs reaction you illicit as you post about throwing people out.

it takes a lot of volunteer labor and goodwill to make TCR happen. I am
happy to help with registration for a few hours.

[Texascavers] TCR Registration volunteers!

2018-08-28 Thread TSA Membership Chair
Hi all!

We're still a little over a month out, but I figured I'd start the waters
churning for volunteers to help in shifts for registration. I've got a
number of shifts ranging from 2 to 4 hours that need to be filled. I'll be
there all shifts, but I need one other person to help me out with paperwork
and such for each shift. I also need an outgoing personality to spend some
time on Saturday wandering to each camp area to make sure everyone has
their wristband.

I have been informed that if you don't have a wristband this year, you will
be kicked out... so... y'all should all register as soon as you get to camp
(cash or check only this year!)!
I'll send out a separate email closer to the date with registration info
for those who won't be volunteering, so you know when registration will be
open- dependent on how many volunteers I can get!

If you are interested in volunteering, let me know in a separate email and
I'll let you know the shifts I've got still available! My email is
trog...@cavechat.org

Also... we'll have cookies. You know, if you need some incentive to help..
;)

Happy caving and even happier volunteering!

[Texascavers] TCR hot tub

2018-08-17 Thread Crash Kennedy
This was posted on the TCR Facebook page, but is being reposted here for
those of you who might have missed it the first time around.

-- Jim

--

There will be no hot tub at TCR this year, but there will be a sauna. Here
is a letter from Drew Thompson and Colin Strickland explaining why.

>From Drew: "A few days before Pete's passing I was working at Stricklandia
and Pete asked me over to talk to him. For a while we talked as he lay on
the couch telling me that he was at the end of his tenure and was not going
to make it to TCR this year and does not want the hot tub to attend this
year. He wants it to be missed, and that it being absent will hold people
more accountable for their involvement [or lack of] on the whole hot tub
process. Pete instructed us to put together a dedicated team of apprentices
to continue the tradition in the style of Pete and all that he created, the
way he taught us. What Would Pete Do? Would Pete Approve? We are all asking
ourselves these questions. There will still be an awesome party zone with a
bonfire and a metal-heated sauna, and a shrine to Pete and all his
memories. The Pyro Grotto will be hosting a Party Lounge, and will also be
setting up Bill Mixon’s classic Cave Box, and revealing the newly created
black light Cave Cube to the caving public. Many people have expressed
concern about the absence of the hot tub saying that it will kill the
party. But in all fairness, we have had fantastic times at other events
with only our friends, family, and all of the other things that bring us
together. It is going to be a fantastic TCR and nothing will stop that!
Neither Colin nor I are looking for a debate, nor interested in hearing
your concerns on the matter of the hot tubs absence at this year’s TCR."

>From Colin: “I will take lead bringing the hot tub next year and going
forward, but I can not attend this year since I will have a week or so old
baby at the time of the event. Many people have expressed that they could
set up the tub, since they helped my dad do it for many years, and I am
sure they could if the equipment appeared on site, but that is not the
case. My dad has the hot tub gear squirreled away in many different
locations and we would spend an entire weekend before TCR loading the
trailer and truck with all the gear, and about the same amount of time
after, filing it all back away. Currently I am building a kitchen in my
parent’s house and trying to get our rental house ready to rent, so have
zero time to deal with people trying to gather this stuff. Also, I need
time to go through it all and see how my dad had it stored. The last thing
I want is to not get a proper inventory of how it was and then get it back
all jumbled and confused. The hot tub will be back, but I need time to do
it right. On his death bed I told my dad not to worry, since I would carry
on his traditions, and I intend to.”

We thank you all for your patience and understanding.

[Texascavers] TCR Art Auction

2018-07-01 Thread Lindsey Adamoski
The Texas Cave Management Association will be holding a silent art auction
at TCR this year to raise funds to support our mission of cave education,
research, and conservation. If you are an artist (e.g. photographer,
knitter, painter, welder, woodworker, sculptor, embroiderer, potter, etc)
please contact me if you would like to contribute a work of art for our
auction. Thank you for supporting TCMA and Texas caves!!

Shout Shout, Here Here! Pete has been bringing his hot tube and
sauna to TCR, and several NSS Conventions in Texas , longer than
many of the younger attendees have been alive!

The cooks and crew also deserve thanks, because they always work
hard, even if your taste buds have different opinions from year to
year.

I didn't make it this year, but it sounds like a good TCR. Best
wishes to those who want to take on Don's job.

Re: [Texascavers] [TCR 2017 Success!]

2017-10-17 Thread David via Texascavers
Charlie,

Even I ( your imaginary arch-nemesis ) missed you greatly.

There were likely some un-noticed records shattered this year.

Most registered attendees who had grandchildren

Most registered attendees who had great-grandchildren.

Oldest active caver in attendance -the one and only Sir Fritz, The
Grandmaster Flash of Caving.

Best beer ever - Pedernales (PBC ? )

Was this It ?

http://res.cloudinary.com/ratebeer/image/upload/w_250,c_limit/beer_178297.jpg

Ask Bob Bell.

Most beautiful women in attendance.Should have done a group photo of
that. Although 1985 was probably just as good.

Loudest crying baby at 5 a.m. thanks to me, David Locklear, and my
super-duper-squeaky old cot.

Most attendees with bad knees.

Least number of party-poopers ?

M.C. now owns the record for most hot girlfriends brought to TCR at 22, I
think. I lost count at 19. She made a fine Viking slave-driver.

I heard 36 naked people squeezed in the hot-tub and 25 in the sauna.

Carl Kunath for most attendance at major Texas caver gatherings counting
pre-TCR and NSS Conventions, etc. at 122, I think.

Did I miss a record ?

Re: [Texascavers] [TCR 2017 Success!]

2017-10-16 Thread Diana Tomchick via Texascavers
Yes, it was great seeing everybody and our dogs had a really fun time trying to
clean up all of the spilled food on the ground. Marley & Bandit gave TCR a big
paws up! They were still exhausted this morning, always a good sign of a fun
weekend.

Thanks to everyone that pitched in to help, sorry I didn’t have time this year
to pitch in—there’s always next year.

I didn’t want to harsh your mellow, on Saturday night, but 2017 was my last TCR
as Director. I did six TCRs. I’m sorry folks, it was fun, rewarding and an
adventure! My resignation is on a high point, I feel, with TCR is in good shape
with a head start on 2018, with a year to solve my absence.

The music was very very good!
The food was very very good! Great job!!
We had INTERNATIONAL Cavers visit from Mexico!
We had David Locklear!
The NSS represented!
The Texas Contingent represented!
The Aggies had a challenging Speleolympics course!
There was a REBELAY course!
We had a hot tub, sauna AND spring water!
There was a SLIDESHOW!
There were POWERWAGONS in service!
There was a HUGE board game.
There were barbarian Viking HOARDS!!
We had MUD GLADIATORS!!
There was schmoozing, I SAW IT!
People smiled!
What more can you ask for?
I’m happy!

[Texascavers] TCR success

2017-10-15 Thread Logan McNatt via Texascavers

Don,

I agree with previous comments. I missed this TCR but have attended
most during your time as Director. You have the right combination of
skills and foresight to set basic rules to prevent unnecessary
problems, but keep it loose enough to allow everyone to have fun.
That's a delicate balance.

So now that you're out of a job, take the rest of the year off.

Thanks,
LowGun

I think there is a facebook page for TCR, but strange as it my sound,
there are a lot of us not on FB for a variety of reasons.
Several folks are getting their registration fee sponsored. Do you have
the cost determined yet?
And finally, do we have a menu yet?
I heard it was going to be Viking visceral borsch?

OK get in touch with Vico. We can work on this. We will have to shoot the small
ones. Mac and I will set up traps next week and bait them. We were getting one
a day for about three months awhile back. what about Aoudads? They are pretty
rank but the small ones are sort of like cabrito. They are a pest too, destroy
crops and such. And of course we could get an Axisi deer. The vegans will rebel
I am sure and the PETA people will freak out but these three types of critters
are bad news.

If you are not going to have a hog rotating over a wood fire and fire-roasted

wood, or at least charcoal.

I am just curious when was the last time that the hog's head was the

I hope to arrive at TCR on Saturday at 5 pm. and hopefully find some leftover

Re: [Texascavers] TCR food

2017-02-20 Thread AC via Texascavers
Stefan,

I remember Niki Lake bringing a bunch of hog to either the first or second time
at Paradise Canyon.

Just for the record, I really appreciate the years you cooked for me at TCR.
Thank you again. Let's get together at TCR, have some leisurely drinks, and
watch all the fun.

If you are not going to have a hog rotating over a wood fire and fire-roasted
vegetables then why even have a dinner ?Or at least some food cooked over
wood, or at least charcoal.

I am just curious when was the last time that the hog's head was the
centerpiece of the table ?

I hope to arrive at TCR on Saturday at 5 pm. and hopefully find some leftover
scraps.

I can only pray that I will be single by then.

Bill Stone has problems with feral hogs and I think he said he's got a live
trap. Catch one, fatten it up, and Vico knows what to do next.

Re: [Texascavers] TCR musician suggestion

2017-02-19 Thread PRESTON FORSYTHE via Texascavers
Ref. guitar playing at TCR. Recently Tommy Flint, 82, died. He was born at
Dunmor, KY, 5 miles south of me. Short story. Tommy became a big time guitar
player-opening act for Elvis and others-but he was famous for 40 books on
playing the guitar with his most famous book being "You Can Teach Yourself
Fingerpicking Guitar." I inadvertently ordered 2 copies. See me at NM if you
want a free copy. This was published by Mel Bay.
Preston Forsythe, down the road from Dunmor, KY. location of my Granddad's
first country store, and official location of the incorporation of Forsythe
Co., Inc., first known as Dunmor Mercantile Co., Inc.
