In the picture you see them pointing up and down on each capacitor. A short wire must be soldered between these, one on each capacitor. The difference is really worth the effort. [SlimDevices: Touch] Music query
Odd question with my music. I added in some music to my existing music collection yesterday but when I went into 'new music', the albums had been duplicated, although the duplicates didn't have the artwork. I've checked this morning and removed one of the albums (Razorlight), completed a couple of scans for changed music and although the folder isn't in my music folder, the album is still listed under artists without the cover and if I go into New Music, it shows without the cover although the one with cover has removed. I've guessing it's cataloging it somewhere else but can't make out why. Another example is 101 Fifties Songs. It shows in there with the cover under 101 Fifties Songs Disc 1 but the duplicate shows as 1 101 Fifties Songs without cover as in picture. Very odd but hopefully easily sorted. None of the rest of my music has done it so not sure what has changed. I don't have my Touch in front of me to check, but I expect the Touch's version of busybox includes the 'date' command. If so, then you could ssh into the Touch and set the internal clock that way. Adding a date and time setting to the Touch ui probably wouldn't be that onerous, and may be a good candidate for a (3rd party) applet. I imagine that the decision to omit it was based on an assumption that most users of a network music player would have an external server or at least a working internet connection to reach mysb.com for time checks. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Duplicate/ghost tracks
With TinySBS you may be able to get the full pathname and filename from the context menu for the affected tracks. Touch-and-hold on a track name to bring up the context menu, and scroll to see if there is info on the pathname and filename. It could be under More. Clear-and-rescan is different from a factory reset. Clear-and-rescan clears SBS's (or TinySBS's) database that contains all the metadata on your music library (album names, artist names, track names, genres, etc). A 'factory reset' clears the settings on the Touch and restores them to the state they were in when it left the factory. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87407 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

When I first heard the sound of the Touch analogue outputs it reminded me of a cheapish CD player - that's after years of being used to a NAD SACD player. Sure, it's better than most hard media players, but that really doesn't say much does it. So I added a DACMagic to the Touch (by no means a high end DAC, very cheap but great for the price, and it can accept 24/96 incoming unlike the V-DAC) and the sound was transformed, much closer to my NAD. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] How can I set date/time on the Touch ?
This has been discussed in depth in the following thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79894highlight=time Look at post #7 for the command needed to actually set the time. This does have to be done by logging into the Touch with SSH from another computer. The RTC clock on the Touch does have a much higher accuracy than the software clock, but none of the functions use it directly, a way would have to be found to periodically copy the RTC time to the system time. Note that one of the developers mentioned that TinySBS was supposed to be trying to make connection to MySB.com periodically and updating its time. From your posts it sounds like you are connected to the internet so this SHOULD be happening, obviously its not, so we need to look into why this connection is not happening. Do you always have a connection to the internet or is it only once in a while? If it's only occasionally that an internet connection exists then that could be part of the problem, if the connection doesn't exist when TinySBS tries to connect to MySB.com then it won't get the time. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] How can I set date/time on the Touch ?
Connecting to TinySBS with ssh requires another computer. The point of using TinySBS is not to use another computer. e.g. : you simply do not have another computer in the house where the Touch is located. Setting time with ssh is tedious, and out of question for a normal user who has probably never heard about ssh. If you have internet connection, you can simply switch temporarily to myqueezebox.com to update time. This is what I did, and this is much easier than doing it with ssh, even if you are a geek. I cannot find any sensible reason not to provide a manual setting of the time in the settings menu. No regular user can understand why this feature is missing. Of course, there is no problem to automatically retrieve time if a PC or internet connection is available. I noticed the time being wrong in the following situation : I didn't use the Touch for about a week (but it was connected to a router with internet connection alive) After a week, I listened to the radio from a stream stored in mysqueezebox.com favourites, but I choose it from TinySBS favourites. I don't use direct connection to mysqueezebox.com because it is not reliable enough, so I keep a usb stick connected to the Touch and use TinySBS. Okay I solved my problem. After getting a new Squeezebox Radio for my bedroom I checked and that also wouldn't play the same files (no surprise there since it's probably the same bit of firmware). I then thoroughly checked to see what files would not play and it was just two albums. I then ran these files through dBPoweramp Music Converter using 'm4a optimize'. This fixed the files so they now play on the Touch and Radio! The only thing that was common about these files (as opposed to the other iTunes files I have) is that both albums were the first ever iTunes album purchase (I think) on a particular iTunes account, one on my account and one on my wife's. I don't know why this would make a difference, but whatever it was, the files would play via the server transcoding to my Squeezebox 3s, but not natively on my Touch or Radio. After 'optimizing', they played on the Touch and Radio too. I still have the original files if anyone wants to look into it. -- rickwookie rickwookie's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6397 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85623 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Logitech's Own server is malfunctioning!
Which is the real problem here...you never know whether it's THEIR problem or yours. Sometimes a reboot and reset will fix things, which is a pain, and other times it was huge waste of time because it was server maintenance or sever problems, etc. Please contact Logitech and request that they post outages on mysqueezebox.comwhich, after more than 24 hours of being down, they *still* have not done, btw, -- Vhiner Vhiner's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=46245 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87423 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

[SlimDevices: Touch] Help with NAS + Touch + iPhone
I'm a noob coming over from a Sonos (if I can make this work) with a ton of questions: Should I have my Netgear NASDuo (SBS installed and cleaned and OS updated) (1) hard-wired to my four-port wireless N router in Room A, where my cable modem i; or (2) hard-wired to my Touch in Room B, where my stereo is? I have it hard-wired to the router now, but it's laggy streaming wireless to the Touch in Room B; it keeps buffering. Was it a bad idea to install the SBS on both my PC and the NAS? Do they share a common index with the Touch, or separate indexes of my music on the NAS? Should I uninstall SBS from my PC and just use the one on the NAS,, so it's always on? And for that matter, how do I access the one on my NAS? I only seem to be able to run the one on my PC. If I hardwire the NAS to the Touch in Room B, with the Touch connected to the router wirelessly, the NAS no longer shows up on my network. Does that mean that, unlike a Sonos, devices connected to the Touch are not part of my network? Should I run an ethernet cable into Room B and put a switch or router out there, with both the Touch and the NAS connected to it, to ensure there are no legs or connection problems with my NAS files? -- Zonker92 Zonker92's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=46280 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=87448 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

The more common/normal setup is as you have it, with the server (NAS) wired to the router, and the Touch connecting to the router either via ethernet or wifi. If you are getting rebuffering then it sounds like your wireless network may have problems. We can troubleshoot that in round 2. Zonker92;628878 Wrote: Was it a bad idea to install the SBS on both my PC and the NAS? Do they share a common index with the Touch, or separate indexes of my music on the NAS? I only seem to be able to run the one on my PC.* Do they all keep updating each other on the different devices? Yes, that is a bad idea. In most situations you only want SBS on one device. If you want something that's always on, then uninstall it from your PC. Although it's actually okay to have multiple devices running SBS, it will be simpler getting going if you have it only on the NAS, especially because a Squeezebox can only connect to one server at a time anyway. As long as your NAS is fast enough, run SBS from there and keep it off your PC. You can access SBS on your NAS from your pc by opening any web browser and pointing it to http://nas_ip:9000 , where you substitute the real IP address of the NAS in place of nas_ip Zonker92;628878 Wrote: If I hardwire the NAS to the Touch in Room B, with the Touch connected to the router wirelessly, the NAS no longer shows up on my network. I'm not surprised that your NAS disappears from the network when you wire it directly to your Touch. But that does _not_ mean that devices connected to the Touch are part of your network. For example, you could put a simple USB hard drive on the Touch, and that USB drive would become available over the network because the Touch can run a Samba file server. Running ethernet to all devices will generally provide a more robust network than wireless will. You could do it as you suggest, with an ethernet cable to your listening room, with both your NAS and Touch connected to it via a switch. But I think a better approach is to leave the NAS in the room with the router, wired to the router. Then run an ethernet cable from the router to the listening room, and connect the Touch to that. No need to have the NAS and its whirring fan(s) in the listening room. Zonker92;628878 Wrote: When I use the Logitech Squeezebox app on my iPhone, my iPhone does not see the Squeezebox as a wireless access point. This is like the Sonos, I guess, where the iPhone has to communicate with the Touch (or Sonos) through my wireless network instead of directly? (If so, too bad.) And why is the iPhone app's volume control so unresponsive, and sometimes moves a little by itself? My Sonos app never did that. Is that normal? You're correct that the iPhone app communicates with the Touch via SBS. I have only used the Logitech SB app a little bit, but haven't had any problems with lagginess of the volume response. That could be wifi problems, or it may be problems with the NAS struggling to keep up running SBS, especially if it is busy doing other things like heavy file copying. Zonker92;628878 Wrote: Would it be better to just get a 1TB USB drive and connect it to the Touch? If so, would the USB connection support 24/96 files going into the Touch? That depends. Some people do fine using the Touch's built-in server (aka TinySBS), but for others it's an exercise in frustration. There are ways to improve your odds of it working for you. See jean2's excellent post here: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=82070 Yes, that connection would support 24/96.
