Good afternoon,

I’m looking for more information on the license for Open Office. The software

full click-through terms and conditions of the current software release that is
available to download on the Open Office website?

Re: Open Office Database Question

2017-03-29 Thread Elder Dan Lewis
What I would do if I wanted to update a form after adding new
fields to the original table: I would edit the form and add the
records for the new fields to the form. There may be some
documentation for Apache Open Office on Base.
If you do not know how to do this, there is a fairly simple
alternative way to do what you want. First add the new fields to the
original table. Then delete the form associated with this table. Then
recreated the form from the table just as you did the first time. It
will now display all the data of your table.

About your Mac, which version of the OS? Did you install your cleaner before or

RE: Open Office and Microsoft Office data input

2017-03-01 Thread Maye, Darryl M.
In my reply to Brian Barker just a few mintues ago:

Good afternoon,

Had I known that the data would not be accessible from both platforms I would
not have destroyed the receipts.

Although it shouldn't happen, that data doesn't appear in both platforms, I am
afraid it appears to happened to me. As I only have ONE file to save to,
somehow my saving to an incorrect file doesn't happen. Why would I hide data I
need? Not to mention that I have no idea of HOW to hide data.

I save the data in the open document formant so that it would be compatible
with both Excel and Open Office.

I use a flash drive to hold the data. I am not using any cloud services to
store any of my data.

I do find it interesting you make specific note that is something I am doing
wrong versus perhaps something the program is doing. But be that as it may, I
guess we are all free to make judgment calls.

Your help will be appreciated.

I than saw that you have also responded to me Julian so I just copied my
answers for your review. Hope it helps you to help me resolve this issue.

Thank you

How are you sharing the files between the home and office computer?

You shouldn't have this problem if you use a dependable cloud file sharing
product like DropBox. Otherwise keep the file on a memory stick and carry it
back and forth.

OpenOffice does not include an eMail-client.
A click to "send as eMail" (I have the german version - probably you se
just a similar text) opens a new eMail using thunderbird.

Responsible for that is the operating system and not really open office ;-)

Die Fehlermeldung genau lesen und dementsprechend handeln. Ohne weitere Infos

Was hast Du denn Ende Dezember mit Deinem MacBook gemacht? - Programme gehen

einfach so kaputt.

Vielleicht hilft auch das Löschen des user-Verzeichnisses. Das liegt in

Beende OpenOffice. Benenne das user-Verzeichnis in "user alt" um. Starte
OpenOffice neu.

No, that's bad advice. Programs should be *installed* using
administrative rights, of course, but - as with application software
generally - OpenOffice does not need administrative rights to run.
And operating your system habitually with administrative rights
negates the very protection (against malware and so on) that the
distinction is there to provide.

The usual starting point for spellcheck problems is to delete or rename
the OpenOffice user profile. Doing this sorts out a very large
proportion [read: most] of OpenOffice stability problems. Details of how
to do this are given in

The problem with a malfunctioning dictionary was fixed quite a long time ago

Re: Open Office "Quits Unexpectedly" in Sierra

2016-10-07 Thread chuck ef
I admit that I am very confused here. I have gotten this sort of thing since I
first started using OO - I can't recall now which version of OS X that was -
about three years ago. But OO does sometimes quit on the first attempt and
always has in my experience. I have usually associated it with trying to open
it first thing after I boot-up. OO is one of the first things I open up after I
bring my machine up in the morning. Resources are tied up and perhaps the app
gives up the ghost too quickly.

I just try again and it opens. Though modestly annoying, it is by no means a
true problem. OO is quite functional even in macOS Sierra.

This is already reported on

Unfortunately I cannot reproduce it, and there is no solution nor
workaround other than trying to start OpenOffice inside Terminal.app
with a particular module so that you avoid the Start Center, for
example, to open the word processor:

/Applications/OpenOffice.app/Contents/MacOS/swriter

This might not help at all, other users reported further crashes or
painting glitches.

Well, I have no idea what you are talking about. So far as I know, OO was never
compatible with iOS - but I am basing that only on previous correspondences. I
am just a user, not an Apache volunteer and I only use OO on my desktop.

And as I said before, my iMac uses macOS Sierra and OO is working just fine.
What you mean by "doesn't load" is not clear. If you are downloading a new
version, I hope that you are aware of Gatekeeper. But if you are trying to open
an existing OO version after upgrading to Sierra, I have no clue what your
problem is. Mine works fine.

Are you trying to open OO on a Mac? Or are you trying to open it on an iOS
device (iPad, iPhone)? That latter is nonexistent so far as I know. The former
is fine.

iOS mistake - it is Open Office that cannot be used. Open Office will not open

I am using OO on macOS Sierra with no problems. It's open right now.

Now I periodically get the "quits unexpectedly" thing - in fact it happened
this morning. I just try again and it's fine. I think that is an old problem,
at least it has been happening to me since I first started using OO three years
ago or so.

Not sure what iOS has to do with it though.

The fix for your problem is to delete or rename your OO user profile.

If you are using Windows, close OpenOffice and the Quickstarter. Open File
Explorer. Copy and paste %appdata%\OpenOffice\4 in the File Explorer Address
Bar and press Enter. Delete or Rename the "user" folder. Start OpenOffice.

This cures most spellcheck problems

Moin Klaus,

viele Fragen, viele Antworten.

You do not give us much useful information to troubleshoot from, but my
SWAG would be that it is GateKeeper that is giving you problems. It is a
known issue and is detailed in the Release Notes at the following link:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/OOOUSERS/AOO+4.1.2+Release+Notes#AOO4.1.2ReleaseNotes-KnownIssues.
Follow the Mac support article link at the end of the first bullet and
follow the procedure there.

If that does not alleviate your problem reply back with additional
details as to what version of OSX you are using and any error messages
you received when trying to install.

RE: Open Office 4 Email Problems

2016-07-31 Thread Dennis E. Hamilton
Assuming you want the recipient to have an email with your document file
attached, use the following steps:

 1. Save the study document to your file system.

 2. When you open Windows Live Mail and address a new message to be sent,
attach the document. (This might be an Insert option depending on your
version.) Then send the message.

Alternative: If you have the Windows PC desktop application for Windows Live
Mail, see if you can set it as your default email application. Then the Send
to Email from Apache OpenOffice 4 might work. If it doesn't, use the above
procedure.

Re: Open Office 4 Email Problems

2016-07-31 Thread Tina
First off, I always save my documents in word sot that people opening them
won't have any problems. You could also export them as pdfs by the way. I don't
use that e-mail server. I prefer yahoo and gmail for they present fewer
problems. But, in general, you shouldn't have problems attaching the document
in question. Or, if you want to send what you have typed as part of your
e-mail, select the words in question, copy, and then paste them to your e-mail
normally as if you had typed it there on the e-mail itself. Hope this helps
somewhat.
Cheers and God bless,

It's entirely legal to sell it. Some people sell it on a CD, which is a
convenience for those without a decent internet connection. However,
some people fill it with crapware. So, your best choice is to always
download for free from www.openoffice.org.

The fault is totally your own.
There is NO LAW that prevents ANYONE from selling OpenOffice
or any open source software.

You could have have just as easily googled for openoffice

 Apache OpenOffice - Official Download

So, why did you go for a seller of openoffice ?

I hope with the myriad of difficulties, someone will write a book.

I wanted to use OpenOffice to paste everything before printing
but some kind person suggested I (not me specifically) download Adobe PDF
reader.
That was a great help. I don't know exactly who to thank.
You see, when you upgrade to Windows 10
there are programs that are removed,
and one of them, I believe was Adobe PDF reader.
The Adobe PDF reader allows you to print the PDF with odd numbered or even
numbered pages.
That's a big help.
And it's free.

 2. On the menu bar, click through Tools > Options ... > OpenOffice > Memory

 3. Close OpenOffice.

Re: Open Office Writer UTTER , UTTER Rubbish (or not)

2016-03-14 Thread Kay Schenk
Apache OpenOffice does indeed have a perfectly functional
spell checker. And, of course, we are aware of the problems
for some users/systems with the spell checker on upgrades.
We have recently had a patch submitted and tested to correct
this problem. See the following BZ entry:

https://bz.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=126762

Hopefully, when 4.2 is released, the problem will be solved.

2016-03-13 Thread Max Merbald

Darren,

even a software developer (which you claim to be) may occasionally have
to repair a software installation, and that can happen with MS products
too. not just with OpenOffice. Deleting the Openoffice folder in AppData
doesn't take long and isn't a pain. It's done in 10 seconds. And don't
tell me you haven't got 10 seconds to spare! And: You DO NOT need to
re-create the profile because it's done automatically when you re-start
OpenOffice after you deleted or renamed the old user profile. You know,
most people DO try to solve problems with their software (and usually
succeed) instead of periodically insulting the developers for, as you
allege, "inferior" software. You did this in 2014, you did it again in
2015, and you are doing it once again right now in 2016. I wonder about
your actual purpose. Anyway, no one is forcing you to use OpenOffice.

If you set it up correctly you would find that spellcheck works. If you are
interested in getting spellcheck to work, this method cures most problems with
an inactive spellcheck.

Delete or rename your OpenOffice user profile. As you are using Windows do this
by:

Close OpenOffice and the Quickstarter. Open File Explorer. Copy and paste
%appdata%\OpenOffice\4 in the File Explorer Address Bar (not the search engine)
and press Enter. Delete or Rename the "user" folder. Start OpenOffice.

This cures most spellcheck problems.

If it's not working, the document language settings may need to be changed. OO
must have access to a spelling dictionary for the language as specified in the
document settings (look in the status bar below the main text area).

This tutorial takes you through all that step by step:
https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=74=16512

If you wish to migrate to MS Word that is your decision.

https://support.apple.com/de-de/HT202491

Gibt es garantiert auch auf Englisch.

Gruß
Günter

This list allows posts without having to subscribe to the list. All such posts go through the
moderator for approval before being sent to the list. Unsubscribed posters won't see replies to
their posts unless the replier cc's them.

Probably Mac OS X. She sent her query using Apple Mail.

Also she is not subscribed to this mailing list and will not have
received your erroneous reply unless you cc'ed her.

Note: Check the message source and look for " Delivered-To: moderator

Also the raw headers will often show what email client is being used,
and indicate the OS.

Re: Open Office issue

2016-02-19 Thread Steve Ahlers
Bonnie,

In order for the Users Group to help you better it's helpful to know what
Operating System (OS) you are using. Here are some general suggestions to help
you get started.

1. First make sure all Open Office programs are shut down, how you do that
depends on your OS.

2. Go to: http://www.openoffice.org/download/ click the Download button.
This will redirect to a mirror site, Source Forge, the download will start in a
few seconds, DO NOT CLICK ON ANY OTHER BUTTONS as this will possibly download
malware. After the download is complete follow the process for your OS to load
the software onto your computer.

3. Your second issue is usually due to a problem with your user profile on
your computer. It will need to be deleted, how you do that depends on your OS.

Please respond to the users group so that others will be able to help you.
