Thanks, that worked. But you have to listen to the entire text because 
it says "copied to clipboard" only after it reads it all.


If I had ever seen that three-finger quadruple tap, I must have 
forgotten it.

Looking for a Setting in Notifications

Hey Guys,

I'm having this problem, and I can't figure out which setting I need to 
fix it.


I'm in this group with three other friends, and we text each other every 
so often about whatever. Whenever I get a notification from any one of 
them, my iPhone 12 unlocks and starts reading it. Even if I've just 
locked the phone, if I get a notification even two seconds later, it 
will unlock the phone and start reading it out loud. Even if it's just a 
Like from one of them, it will unlock my phone and read it.


It didn't used to do that. It just started very recently. I don't know 
whether it's something I've done, or whether the most recent update 
changed something, but it's pretty annoying.


I've been through the Notification settings, and I can't seem to find 
what I need in there. I don't want to turn them off completely, but I 
only want them to show up when I unlock my phone.


What do I need to do?

Actually, I don't use Siri for opening apps either. I just tried it 
yesterday for the first time after reading some of the posts here about 
people having problems and it worked fine.

Now that's weird because I told her to open TuneIn yesterday twice, and 
she opened it without saying anything.


Also, I have told her to call a couple of numbers in my Contacts and she 
said that she was calling them, although her inflection does sound 
different in 17.1. But for the things I use her for, she's working here 
the same as before the update.

I don't think your phone is too old. I don't think the image analysis
occurs on your phone. I'm pretty sure the image analysis takes place on
servers running GPT4.

I had the same problem. I took several pictures and it said "failed to 
analyze picture". So I closed the app, then reopened it. Still the same.

I am also having the problem on my iPhone 12. I tried two voices, the 
one I use regularly, Eloquence Reed, and Alex, which I have also used.

I cannot get the per voice settings to work at all. It says that the 
settings are changing, but I hear no differences in the voice, as I did 
in the demo.
I can preview the changes, although the speech rate is slower than the 
one I have it set to, the changes are audible there. But I have no way 
to actually

use them.

I do not have any antivirus software on my iPhone 12.

First this isn’t an android list.    Second I would just
switch back to iOS.  You wouldn’t have this problem on iOS. 
You can attempt contacting Google accessibility but if you
have the experience Jonathan Mosen and others who called his

Since I wrote that last message, I discovered yet another problem:

I hear absolutely nothing when I hold in the Side button. Not a very 
quiet tone, nothing at all. I turned the phone up and held it up to my 
ear when I held in the Side button and it doesn't play anything. I still 
hear the traditional tone when I let go of the Side button, but nothing 
when I press and hold it.

I can confirm this as well on my iPhone 12.

I double tap on the Speed button within a book, and while it clicks, I 
do not hear the tone. Nothing actually happens. It does not change from 
Speed to Tone.

I have an iPhone 12, and I have been using the Eloquence voice. I was
looking forward to trying out that bunch of new settings that I heard in
the demo. But after upgrading to iOS 17, I go into the per voice
settings as in the demo, but I cannot hear any changes in the voice when
I change the Eloquence settings as it does on the demo. I can hear
changes when I preview settings, but I don't see any way to activate them.

Does anyone know why I can't get this to work right?

Actually, it just occured to me that it could be simpler than I had thought.

The AI could describe a face, and it may very well know who it belongs 
to, but be prohibited from disclosing any identifying information such 
as name, address, phone number, etc.


ChatGPT is already prohibited from disclosing certain information, such 
as how to make an atomic bomb, although it may well have a pretty good 
idea as to how to do it. So they already know how to program it to not 
reveal things.

I use Seeing AI pretty often for its bar code reading and short text 
features, but I haven't used that one.


But you are basically addressing the same issue I just posted about. 
There is a difference between the description of a face, and the 
identification of

that face with a specific person.

Okay, I do get the idea that a lot of people do not want their faces 
recognized. Facial recognition has a lot of risks associated with it.


But I still do not see why someone could not get a description of a face 
without it being matched to a particular identity.


For example, why couldn't we get a description, say, this person has 
blue eyes, brown hair, et cetera, without saying, this is the face of 
so-and-so?


People seem to be conflating the idea of describing a face with the idea 
of identifying a face. An AI could describe a face without being able to 
say that
it is the face of a specific person. The data that gives the name and 
other info about a specific person could be isolated from the part that 
gives the
description, so that it is inaccessible to the AI so that it would be 
unable to say that it is the face of a particular person. For privacy 
reasons, organizations

keep data separate already, for example medical records.

I've asked this before and noone has been able to explain what I am 
missing.

I had it on my iPad Mini 4, and when I got my iPhone 12, I redownloaded
it. I was not able to get it to work. It seemed to do nothing when I put
a bill

in front of it. So I eventually deleted it.

I bought the lifetime membership for Cash Reader, which does work very
well. Seeing AI also works, but it seems erratic at times. Sometimes it
works great,

other times, it also just does nothing when I put a bill in front of it.

But now I have at least one reliable money reader.

Thanks Sieghard, that was it.

I was able to duplicate the behavior during a call. I made the call 
holding the phone in front of me and I did not lose Voiceover. But when 
I held the phone close to my ear, I lost it. Then, when I moved the 
phone away from my ear, Voiceover returned.


I just started using my phone's cellular function on Friday, so I'm 
still learning.

Voiceover say the number in the little speaker by my ear, then speech 
disappears. I move my finger all over the screen and I hear nothing from 
Voiceover. So I can't hang up a call, or pick a number from a menu, or do 
anything at all. When the person I've called hangs up, speech comes back right 
away.

A friend of mine says that she's having the same problem. But another friend of 
mine says that he isn't. So he thinks that perhaps there's some setting that we 
changed that might be affecting speech when a call is made.

Anybody seen this behavior and got any ideas as to how to fix it?

Friday. I've had an iPad Mini for some years, so I'm familiar with iOS, 
but there's quite a bit I still have to learn about the phone part of it.


I'm having a bit of a problem. It seems that when I make a call, I hear 
Voiceover say the number in the little speaker by my ear, then speech 
disappears. I move my finger all over the screen and I hear nothing from 
Voiceover. So I can't hang up a call, or pick a number from a menu, or 
do anything at all. When the person I've called hangs up, speech comes 
back right away.


A friend of mine says that she's having the same problem. But another 
friend of mine says that he isn't. So he thinks that perhaps there's 
some setting that we changed that might be affecting speech when a call 
is made.


Anybody seen this behavior and got any ideas as to how to fix it?

Is TapTapSee Out of Commission?

I just installed TapTapSee onto my new iPhone 12. It worked pretty well 
on my iPad Mini 4.


After going through some disclaimers, I took a bunch of pictures in 
various locations in our house. All it says every time is "black and 
white abstract illustration".


I went to Camera and looked at various controls.

I know the camera is working because it told me that it was seeing a 
book and a laptop, which are both in front of me. I didn't even ask it.

Well, there's probably also nothing like a human voice reading a book badly.

Now I'm not dissing Learning Ally. I have used them quite a bit and 
learned a lot from the books I've gotten from them over many years. 
However, those of you who have used them very much at all will know that 
while some of their narrations are very good, and some are passable, 
some are downright terrible.


I would take AI narration over bad human narration any time.

I get the feeling that some people here are comparing AI narrated books 
to those professionally narrated by the best in the business, as from 
Audible.


But that is the wrong comparison.

Firstly, for those reading nonfiction, you don't need a professional 
dramatic performance of a book.


Also, there are tons of magazines out there that could be AI narrated 
but that aren't because there are not enough human narrators, or the 
funds, to do the job.


If it comes down to material being accessible via AI narration, or not 
accessible at all, I think many people will overcome their prejudices 
and listen to them.


Also, AI narration is a fast moving technology. As I said, it would be 
unwise to claim that it could never be as good as the best human 
narration. But even if it never does get that good, there are still a 
lot of areas where it would be very useful in filling an accessibility void.

I don't know, it wasn't all that long ago that we couldn't have imagined 
AI narrated books at all.


Things are moving fast, so I wouldn't be too quick to conclude that AI 
narrated books could never be of the same quality as human narrated ones.


And I don't see why we couldn't have both AI and human narrated books.

It seems very likely that there are a lot more books out there than 
there are human narrators to narrate them. So AI narrated books may well 
be a big boost to making more books accessible than otherwise would be 
the case.

side button on any phone I guess this means it will of course have Face
Id. I would get used to using a phone without home button from the start
even though having an iPad you of course would be used to a home button,
but if this rumour about the fourth generation SE is true then it means we
will never again see an iPhone with a home button.

2. I mention the 13 Pro or 14 Pro because you should really check them out
and hold them in your hand and compare then to an iPhone 13 Mini. They
really are not all that much larger physically, but you get the benefit of
the LiDAR sensor which is required for features like door detection and
maybe other things in the future.

Lastly, I wouldn't buy an SE because I think having the ability to use
MagSafe accessories such as charging pads, cases and external batteries is
very nice and to my knowledge not even the third Gen iPhone SE has
MagSafe. I assume the 13 Mini has it, but definitely the 13 Pro and 14 Pro
have it.

I will check the 13 Pro and 14 Pro out and definitely hold them before I 
decide.


I'm not out for the most expensive phone I can get. But on the other 
hand, since I don't plan to get one of these every year or two, I do 
want to get a good one that will last.


Basically, I do want a high end model in a small package, not a big slab 
I have to carry around.

course have Face Id. I would get used to using a phone without home button from

button, but if this rumour about the fourth generation SE is true then it means 
we will never again see an iPhone with a home button.

2. I mention the 13 Pro or 14 Pro because you should really check them out and 
hold them in your hand and compare then to an iPhone 13 Mini. They really are 
not all that much larger physically, but you get the benefit of the LiDAR 
sensor which is required for features like door detection and maybe other 
things in the future.

Lastly, I wouldn't buy an SE because I think having the ability to use MagSafe 
accessories such as charging pads, cases and external batteries is very nice 
and to my knowledge not even the third Gen iPhone SE has MagSafe. I assume the 
13 Mini has it, but definitely the 13 Pro and 14 Pro have it.

dissapointment when a new version wasn't released this year.


I'm wondering though, if I get a 13 Mini, if it will be more likely to 
go obsolete before an SE model or a standard 14 model.


If that is unlikely, then I'm kind of leaning toward that model. It's 
still for sale on the Apple site and from Verizon, which is our carrier.


The SE is close to the same size as the Mini, although according to what 
I've read, it has a smaller screen but a bigger body. A lower screen 
resolution too, but that doesn't matter to me.

I'm in the Market for a Small iPhone


Hey Guys,

I'm familiar with iOS. I've been using an iPad Mini for over six years. 
I've never owned an iPhone yet though, and I'm now looking for one to buy.


Even though I'm familiar with iOS, I'm not familiar with specific iPhone 
models, and I'm in the market for one.


I want a small one. My manual dexterity is good, so I'm sure I can use 
it.  But I don't want to sacrifice power or memory.


Could people tell me which models I should be looking for that are on 
the smaller side?


Assume price is no object. I'm not saying that I'm gonna buy the most 
expensive iPhone I can get, I'm just saying that I will look at prices 
once I know what my best choices are for a small model.

Need A New Money Reading App

Hey Guys,

I've had an app called Money Reader on my iPad Mini for a few years. 
It's been quite a while since I used it. I tried this morning and found 
out that it won't open now. I got the message that the app needs to be 
updated to work with this version of iOS, and an Okay button. When I 
click the Okay button. When I click the Okay button, the message 
disappears and I'm back to the list of apps.


So I guess I need to get one that will work with the latest version of iOS.

I'm looking for suggestions.

Is It Possible to Set Up an iPad out of the Box without Any Sighted Assistance?

Hello,

Kind of a followup to my recent inquiry, if my Life Partner decides to 
get an iPad, is it possible to set one up without any sighted assistance?


The problem is that we are having a very hard time right now getting an 
appointment at the Apple store, where they would normally do that for a 
blind customer. So basically, we would be having to get it running from 
square one.


My Life Partner has a very limited amount of partial vision, and I have 
none at all. I do however, have some familiarity with VoiceOver, having 
had an iPad Mini for a few years. So I could likely be of help in 
setting it up, once VoiceOver has been activated.


I would be grateful for any advice on this.

Can a Cellular iPad Make Phone Calls?

Hey Guys,

My Life Partner wants to get one of the larger iPads instead of an 
iPhone because she wants something bigger that she can see better.


She wants to get a cellular version. I wasn't on the line when she was 
talking to the guy at the Apple store, but   she told me that if she 
pays to get the cellular version, the guy told her that she wouldn't be 
able to make phone calls with it.


Is this information correct?

Everyone making less than $99,000 will get a check.  If you've filed taxes & 
get your refund via direct deposit, you will get your check that way.  If 
you have not filed taxes or have filed & do not use direct deposit, you'll

mail.  If you want to speed up the process, you can go to irs.gov & fill out 
a form as a non filer.  You will be asked to provide bank info so they can

It's a bit confusing though because, if I understand what I read on the IRS
site correctly, SSDI recipients will get their payments automatically. But
if you don't get enough income to have to file a tax return, you have to
fill out the form on the site to get the payment.

file a tax return in 2018 or 2019?
If they didn't, then that would settle the question as to whether SSDI

I don't delete the books I read. Storage is small and cheap.
I don't use the Wish List. When I see a book that sounds interesting, I 
download it for future reading. Again, storage takes up very little physical 
space.
I don't see why anyone should care whether or not I delete the books I've 
read, or whether I download books I want to read as soon as I hear about 
them rather than putting them on the Wish List. The books are still on BARd. 
They don't vanish when I download them.

I know it is really a wonderful thing that we can download all these books 
so easily, but I think it says somewhere in the user agreement that their 
service is not meant to be used to build a personal library, rather books 
are meant  to be downloaded, read, then deleted. The book can be

books for future reading dan I do now, at this moment, my bard  wish list 
has over 3400 books on it, then there are the wish lists for Bookshare, all 
the books downloaded to Voice Dream. I am talking to myself now, this is 
silly. I should just keep a list somewhere and use their storage space 
rather than mine. It is the same   with Apple Music. I use to download a lot 
from them, now I just put it into my library, then stream it, unless I am 
going to be away from wifi for a long time.

So, the three month premium trial I was on with Spotify is ending. I therefore 
grabbed a two month Pandora premium trial. I hadn’t used Pandora in a bit as I 
generally try to rotate among premium offers and after going through Apple 
Music and Spotify, I’m now back to this one.

I remember towards the end of my last using Pandora, VoiceOver accessibility 
got a little more problematic. Not necessarily inaccessible, but rather over 
all just more clunky to use. 

Now that I’m back using Pandora, I’m experiencing these issues again. Another 
thing I’m noticing is that when I skip forward or back or thumbs up/thumbs 
down, VO focus always reverts to the back button.

The first thing you want the friend to do is to go to the iPhone settings the 
Apple ID section then go to iCloud followed by find my iPhone and make sure 
that is off. Once that has been disabled, go to iPhone settings, general, very 
bottom there is reset. What you want to choose is erase all content and 
settings. This will wipe the iPhone to factory settings. Once it has been 
reset, you can triple click the home button to enable voiceover and set up the 
iphone.

Putting an iPhone 6 Back to Factory Settings

Hi,
I have a friend who’s willing to give us an iPhone 6, but she doesn’t know how 
to get it back to its original factory settings.
I don’t have an iPhone myself. I do have an iPad Mini, but I never investigated 
how to put it back to its original settings because I have no plans to give it 
away or sell it.
Any info on how to put an iPhone 6 back to factory settings would be very 
helpful.

Tell your friend to turn on Bluetooth. Your friend can ask Siri to turn it 
on, then off, but that eliminates the problem. Also, a headset does, but 
Bluetooth is right in the phone - say to Siri, turn on Bluetooth; when 
through, say to Siri tyrn off Bluetooth. No problem at all.

Hi Chris,
Sorry for taking so long to get back to you on this.
I tried signing in to my Tune-in account, but apparently, even though I 
downloaded the app, I don’t have a Tune-in account.
I thought that I could sign in using my email address and my Apple password, 
which is how I generally download apps. That didn’t work, so I hit the Forgot 
Password button and entered my email address and Tune-in doesn’t recognize it. 
So I didn’t have a Tune-in account, even though I have the app.
So I decided to create an account. But when I created an account, I had no 
Favorites. So there’s no way to delete a Favorite from that account because I 
hadn’t entered any Favorites via the Tune-in account, only via the app on my 
iPad Mini.
As I said, they apparently didn’t think of providing a way of deleting a 
station that no longer streams. It seems that it has to play first before you 
have the option of deleting it via the app.
So I guess I’m stuck with it unless I uninstall the app and then reinstall it. 
But then I would lose all my other Favorites.

Hello Evan,

I just logged in on my computer using the Google Chrome browser and found how 
to remove a favorite.

When you first go to the site, you will have to arrow down the page to find 
where it says sign in.  It is not a link or button, but if you just hit enter 
on it, it will bring up the sign in page where you can sign in.
Also, at the top of the page, right before it says search, you will find a 
slash link.  This is a navigation menu link, and if you hit enter on it, it 
will bring up a list of navigation links at the top of the page.

Once you get to your favorites page.  after each favorite, you will find a 
button that says zero.  If you hit enter on this button, you will get some 
choices that pop up, one of these choices is remove.  Just hit enter on remove, 
and this should remove the station from your favorites.

on the station, then on the play screen, you will find a favorites button that 
is currently selected.  Just double tap the favorites button to unselect it and 
remove it from your favorites.

Does Anyone Know How to Delete a Tune-In Favorite?

Hey Guys,
I added a custom stream to my Tune-In Favorites a couple years ago, but that
