I've been thinking of the MF 3.24 DAC - almost bought one off ebay
yesterday, but I like to listen before I buy. I'm off to pick up the MF
X-DAC V3 today to have a listen to at home for a week.
Will keep you posted!

you're welcome.
Removing the caps is easier than it looks. They each have a couple of
solder tags that are easily attacked with a soldering iron. Try not to
hang around though, if things get too hot there is a chance that
surrounding pcb tracks may lift.

Whilst looking around at new DAC's I came across this one. read some
very nice reviews, some stating nits better than the Benchmark DAC-1,
and at a very decent price. Its available on a 7 day trail, so I'm
tempted. Anyone got one of these?

Having been fiddling around with kit for a couple of decades now, I

Hello all,
does anyone have any direct/indirect experience with the McIntosh MS300
network music server

and more generally some comments about McIntosh Amps/Preamps/Integrated

When I was first thinking about this, I started with subjective vs
objective (i.e. 'I like the sound' vs 'it is accurate'), but realised
the inadequacy of that approach, as the subjective especially splits
into many camps. The objective approach is kinda dull to me as there's
not much to talk
I have no direct experience, but moot a couple of caveats:
- 300GB is probably not enough, if you use FLACs. I would check with
them to ensure that the HD can be changed
- How easy can it be to change the tags? My brother-in-law has a Sony
machine that ripped all his music in (to ATRAC, I
AdamSlim,

I am currently using a Transporter, which I adore. I came to McIntosh
on the wave of a long search for a network media storage server which
should be fanless, Raid 5, and high end. It would need to be something
along the lines of the Infrant Repertoire but
Most of the AV servers that I've seen details of do appear to almost
always have some kind of odd drawback or design flaw. My personal
preference is a big PC case hidden out of sight, connected via RF to
the SB. That allows plenty of HD storage and cheap upgrades.

And thanks for your Super Regulator offer. I'd love to try one of those.
What's the voltage output? I was thinking of using it in place of the
switching 3.3 V supply.
Yesterday I took the covers off the SB2 to inspect the innards. I must
say I'm impressed. The integration on this is incredible.
Speakers are probably the most personal choice within a stereo system.
Whilst I love what I own, you might hate them, so it's fairly pointless
me recommending them or similar. Additionally, I really really don't
like BW speakers. Simply never heard a pair that did anything but put
me off.

Looks like a nice unit and you can't beat the price, that's for sure!
It appears to use a 12V DC external source. So, there's a lot of room
for improvement with better supplies, etc.

Rececived my black Sb3 today, fired it up to see that it worked and

otherwise alterations. And
Did they stop selling the wired version? Otherwise it would have saved

And to answer your question, most of us can't hear frequencies quite

I don't think radiation from the 2.4 GHz card and antennas is a big
issue. Otherwise we would all be hearing about it. The stock switching
power supply has a greater effect on the sound, IMO.
