OK, but it its because of SQ, my opinion is that the A5s are not really
good enough to make it worth the effort - unless you turn it all the
way down. For normal use, I'd say the usable volume range on the Touch
allows for quite some flexibility. But it is nice to be able to
physically adjust roug
The speakers are out of reach in the bedroom/kitchen and I keep the
volume on 100% on the SBT.

My requirements for powered speakers for my SBT apart from good SQ are:
1. remote control
2. auto power on/off when (no) sound
Audioengine A5 have 2 but not 1 and A5+ have 1 but not 2, am I right,
A5 owners?
Anybody knows of an alternative?

never been a fan of genelec(too toppy /bright for me)
I use the HS80m actives in my living room. I love them. dont give up
much to my klein and hummel 0300D at all.

Not necessarily. Pro active speakers come in all shapes and sizes.
Cheap ones tend to be nearfield, of course - accurate speakers that can
fill a room cost proper money.

There have been a couple of Pro Audio suggestions already - Mackie,
DynAudio - and I'd like to second them. I have found that Pro Audio
gear provides quality construction, great value, and superb sound (and
as a bonus, you get to hear the song just as the recording and
mastering engineers heard it

I think the fact that Paradigm bailed on this market niche says a lot.
They have clearly figured out a way to manufacture quality equipment in
North America at a variety of price points.
Perhaps they made the push toward active speakers prematurely, but it
still really hurts not to have a market
Since this thread is not specific to a particular price level, I'll add
something at the high-end.
ATC has been making powered speakers for a long time. Not cheap. They
are known for their dome mid-range driver. Low distortion, high power
handling without compression.

In best audiophile fashion, the price bracket has been going up. But
those AVI ADM look fantastic. I have not been able to find a dealer

The small Fostex PM04 is surprisingly good i have them in my kitchen.
There are larger models. Look is ok but not more, black box high gloss
front with curved edges small green led in front (not a blue one yes !
).
No grilles sorry, I remove these on all speakers i own anyway.

I also have a pair of Swans M-200's (based on a recommendation from this
forum some time ago). They're serving as bedroom speakers right now,
hooked up to a Tivo and an SB2. Sound quality is (IMHO) excellent for
the price, and the build quality is also pretty amazing. Highly
recommended if you can

the boom. I think you will find that most grade the boom as sounding
better. And Its about the same price and does a whole lot more. The
audioengines are not anything special sound quality wise. They are nice

I use in my home office driven by a good quality PCI audio card. I
mostly listen in the near field (3' away from the speakers.) I
sometimes listen from farther away or from the next room. I think they
are very enjoyable and a great bargain.
Some suggestions:
- A5s have a rear port. They need
as stated often before, the A5s represent one of the most unique
audiophile level price-value propositions out there. the sound quality
is beyond amazing for a $400 speaker. there are some others out there
that are potentially just as great, but they all seem to cost a bit
