The entire chapter on OSPF in that book is dangerous. I would recommend
that you find another source to study OSPF or you may walk away with a very
unfortunate understanding of that particular routing protocol. Beware
especially of any discussion involving an ASBR.

There is no bandwidth averaging mechanism in EIGRP. Does that help?

As I've always understood from the IETF:
E1 metric = sum of internal costs of reaching ASBR + external cost of ASBR
E2 metric = external cost of ASBR.

Almost, but not quite... CHAP can operate in 2 modes, if you use "ppp
authentication chap"
Enabling ATM OAM (Operations and Maintenance?) cells on the
hub-site router lets you see when the remote Frame Relay
PVC/DLCI goes down. Here's a sample:
interface ATM1/0.105 point-to-point
description ATM PVC to FrameRelaySite
mtu 1500
bandwidth 256
ip address 10.1.121.89 255.255.255.252

Are you saying that CHAP is not capable of one way authentication?? And
to do this one has to use PAP???

Ok I have tested this and got it to work with out the dual usernames on
bouth router, as I was talking about in the previous post
but that still leves my orginal question, and if any one can see anything
from the debug, that would be great.

Your dialer map statements must have 'broadcast'
ie dialer map ip 1.1.1.3 broadcast 8358683

Ok thanx for the explanation

Router 1

dialer 0
ppp authentication chap calli
ppp chap hostname bla
ppp chap password bla1
and that works to authenticate to the ISP router, but as chap is two way, do

It depends on the flash chips, some older boot roms do not recognise the
newer chips.
Call cisco to get some upgraded roms if you have a contract or you can
get them cheap from ebay.
The version you are looking for is 11.0(10c)XB2.
hth,
Mark.
