I bought a Cisco 7000 router at an auction. It did not come with a power
cable
and I can not find one for the life of me. I ordered and received CAB-7KAC=,
but this cable does not fit. It says on the package thats its a 7500 series
AC power cord. On ciscos website its says to order this cable but,
extended range vlans ( 1005 ) can only be configured on a switch that is
in VTP transparent mode.

you sure about that, Tom?
172.100..0
255.255.1110.0
subnet bits = 1.0
172.100.0.0 through 172.100.31.0 for /24's
these would be SUMMARIZED using the 224 mask in the third octet.
if you only want eight /24's, then the answer is
172.100..0
255.255.1000.0
subnet bits
I believe you can create extended vlans in either Server/Transparent modes.
You just cannot use VTP to manage these VLANs; they must be statically
configured on each switch.

Hi Arni,
As far as I know you can not because of the split horizon rule built into

I am using trunking on the LAN side of the routers to route between VLANs.
However, WAN interfaces of these routers are not configured as trunk. The

Everyone,
We have been bridging LAT at my remote offices for some time, and have just
gotten rid of all the LAT devices. I would like to now configure the routers
to make sure only TCP/IP is routed. The config is not that long, but I'm not

Correct, The 2 lans across the wan are nothing more than 2 networks
with layer 3
router connections connecting them together. The vlan's are only
significant at the
local lan level to the host in the switch.

I have a home lab of about 10 routers. Is there a way
to reduce or eliminate the fan noise? Are there
replacement fans that are less noisy? Anyone have any
tips? The noise is driving me kind of crazy and it

Thanks,

What are the best books to buy or places to obtain
router labs? I already have the CCIE Lab Practice Kit
