With all reports from SE Colorado (Bent, Prowers, Kiowa, and Baca
Counties), there were at least 16 species of Warblers found today (5 May).
I saw 11 species of Warbler today, Cape May, Palm, Nashville, Virginia's,
and Townsend's all reported today, though not by me.

Lisa and I had limited time but managed a quick trip to SE Colorado
Monday-Tuesday. It is always a joy for us to get down that way and see
species we don't normally get in the San Luis Valley. Monday was
rainy/snowy and birds were hard to come by. Tuesday was better.

Tom Whitten and I visited three Kiowa County Reservoirs yesterday, seeing
our first of the year Swainson's Hawk on Hwy 287 and then arriving at
Neenoshe Reservoir at 6:45 a.m. They've thinned and partially cleared the

Friday marked the start of the CFO's long weekend to SE Colorado. We headed

Yesterday, Nick Moore and I birded from Negronda/Neesopah (Kiowa) to John

Negronda, Neesopah, Jett Reservoirs all were mostly frozen, but were packed
with birds in the small areas of open water. Nothing of interest though beyond

many migrants.

I began to worry about winter mortality of Piping Plovers, as they have
been about 10 days late to return to Southeast Colorado in 2010.
Normally, over half of our birds are back by this date, and as of
yesterday morning only two were known to be on territory statewide.
