John, Only one KXUSB is needed.  The other is just a TRS to TRS cable. The KXUSB cable must connect first between the KXPA100 and the PC.  The second cable between the KXPA100 and the KX3. If connected that way, everything should work. See if both the KXPA100 Utility and the KX3 Utility will

Eric, There is no quick and easy path to do that. Your easiest solution is just to let the KPA1500 auto-select the band. It has frequency sensing and just a brief burst of RF will cause it to change bands. A more indirect solution is to use a band decoder like the Elecraft KRC2 which will

Don's points are very good.   Add to that the resistance or load value to which the power indicator was calibrated.  Ideally it is 50 ohms R +j0.  However, being a voltage sensing circuit, any deviation from 50 ohms will impact the indication.  Thus a 55 ohm load, showing a SWR of 1.1:1 can

Jim, Amateur wattmeters are notoriously "famous" for their inaccuracies. Errors of up to 20% are not unusual, and in many cases it depends on the band because the voltage produced by the measurement diodes are frequency dependent. So bottom line, don't worry about the 10 watt differential.

Was working OK. Turned rig on today and when I hit tune on the kX3 it does not tune. Two dashes show up on upper right corner of display and shows 5watts. Led on the amp under 25 is blinking. Same with dummy load. It will auto tune OK. Strange to say the least. Any ideas? 73 George/W2BPI

I want to run my just-born KX3 and it’s 100-watt companion KCPA100 into a high power linear, my Ameritron ALS-600S. But we have some issues. For instance: the combo easily produces 600 watts CW. But, on SSB it far too easily trips the Ameritron load fault, or the KXPA100 high SWR shut down.

[Elecraft] KX3/KXPA100 Output Power Cal

I ran a quick test on my KX3/KXPA100 output using the output power calibration and the results don't really make sense to me. This was on 40m into a dummy load: Using the KXPA100's cal number (ALC A2.5), the max output was 90 watts with the KX3 set to 110W output. The 90W measurement was from

This is puzzling so I'm asking for help. When on the NJ CW net at the bottom end of 80 meters (3.544 MHz), the KX3 CW sidetone works fine but when I use the KXPA100 , the sidetone is silent. The CW is being sent as expected, just no sidetone at all. On all other CW bands, it works as expected.

Thanks for the report, Ken. At lower voltages, especially in voice modes, you should consider dialing back power output to preserve the amplifier's headroom. For example, if the supply is dipping below 11 V, I back the power down to about 50 W, just to be safe. This is only a 3-dB drop in

Chris, I am not certain what you are referring to as a CAT5 coupler, so the answer is maybe. If the CAT5 coupler is an RS-232 to Ethernet converter, it should work, but if it simply takes the RS-232 signals and simply connects them directly to the wires of a CAT5 cable, there will be a limit
