If I understand what you are trying to do, you would like each section of the
family to have RIN numbers within some range, say Name1 from 10,000 to 20,000,
Name2 from 20,000 to . . . .

It's a mystery to me why you'd bother to Renumber RINs :-) - it's
just a computer number to keep track of individuals and their
relationships to each other. Seems to me there are many more
important jobs to do in genealogy.

This is not just an expert genealogy thing. Engineers and researchers of
other professions have used similar filing methods as well. This method of
filing is called a "Random Filing System" and has been in existence for a
fit with other methods and
