climb a hill (at which point 45mph was the fastest I could get it going on
the highway), and it finally got to the point on the hill that the engine
was still running, but not enough to overcome the drag from the auto tranny.
Yet another reason to go with studless winter tires...

Have you tried a locksmith? That's what I ended up doing. I tried Home
Depot, Wal-Mart, Valu, Do-it-best, etc. None of them could do it. I finally
went to the locksmith and he made a couple out of some key. Not sure what
the key was meant for (not for a Mercedes, the head is about 1/4 the size of

I'm not sure what was in my 83' 300D originally, but they looked old enough
to be original. I had to get some replacements (those euro fuses are a bit
harder to find than anything else I've seen) so I found some at Autozone. I
forget the name, but I think they're brand name BUSS or something... I c
My 83' 300D has/had some sort of alarm. Not sure if it was factory or not.
Mine had a horn on the left front fender and a red light in the center of
the top level of switches in the center console.
Also has an electric lock actuator that is part of the vacuum locking system
on the drivers door...

One other thing.
If it is bad, what's the risk from continuing to drive it? Or will it start
running much worse before I need to worry about further damage?
Thanks!

Alright, I find this a bit hard to swallow, but I'm wondering if I have a
blown head gasket. This is an 83' 300D. It definitely seems to be using
coolant. I'm not positive, but I think I've put in a couple gallons in the
last month. I know I just added almost a gallon this morning. I drive around

That sound a bit scary to me... Kinda depends on your ambient temps for one
thing, but even then it's iffy. Basically gas is your only thinner, and gas
isn't something you want very much of in your diesel tank... I'm not
confident in the long-term abilities of blending in general, but I would

Hmm, I was thinking of calling the nearest dealership which is about 90
miles away and ask if they'll come give me a jump on my 83' 300D with
expanding foam sticking out of the fender where the tire ripped it open. (:
