It sounds an awful lot like your partition table has been corrupted. If
you enabled supermount during the install I would suggest that you now
disable it. If that is even possible at this point.

you're doing during the install.

mandrake 7.1 and i had nothing but problems, grub wouldnt load the kernel
properly by telling it i had no memory, x windows didnt want to load said i

Well after having fits trying to figure out fdisk, (which I did), I went
ahead and installed the rest of the system only to find that the install
program failed to write the boot sector, or to the MBR, in other words,
no LILO. Then it also decieded that it could not write the boot floppy.
WHERE is the GNOME path in mandrake...and what all

I think you have to make a nonX bases floppy to boot from. It is in the
images directory on the cd IIRC.

Just do a custom install and when it comes

and do these things in a root terminal
or use drakeconf within your user dir
