Richard,
I am a very happy Mandrake user and though 9.0 had its problems
(especially eg supermount etc.), I never had the problems you describe.
9.1 has now been released, I suggest you upgrade/reinstall (download
available on all the major mirrors) immediately. See if this fixes your
problems

I've got my Voodoo 4 4500 working with MDK
I've got my Voodoo 4 4500 working with MDK 8.0, but not very well. Switching
from X to console or vice-versa can take 3 or 4 seconds. Saying that, I've
not had the time to spend on fixing the problem and generating a proper
XF86Config-4 file.
However, my card worked straight out of the install -

I can't remember the exact program for doing this... But what you could
do (if you find a better answer) is to run your installation CD's again.
This time choose UPGRADE. You don't have to install any programs but
eventually, it walks you through the Video setup part.

Hi,
Sounds like PPP is the problem, I think you need root privileges to run
ppp so it terminates. Way around this is to set the 'Setuid' bit so anyone
who runs it , runs it with root privs.
Check these files:

/usr/sbin/pppd

Title: RE: [newbie] HELP... please
In Kppp setup, check the modem timeout, it needs to be a minimum of 60 to 90 seconds to allow login time. If it is set for only a few or say 20 or less seconds, the modem does not stay on long enough to log on, Hope that helps, Dennis M.

Try to mount it as /mnt/nt0 or /dev/nt0 and the tape will be recognised.

There's a program on your system that will help you backup files from your
system to the tape drive. It's called Taper. If your tape drive is the
only scsi device on your system you would start the program like this.
taper -T st0

image you used.
I think you need to change your boot disk image, sounds like
you are attempting to do a network install. As for the

Here is a ghetto way of doing of it, but it will work. Just hookup the SCSI
drive while installing
the OS and then add the IDE after setting up the machine. I'm sure there is
a better way of doing it but this
should work.
