I had nothing but a plague of minor issues running any version of
system 9 on the 3400, I am running 8.6 on the one machine I still have
running and it is stable, have 6 others that have some version of acute
sleeping sickness(GLOD etc.).

All in all, these machines are just terrible Mac OS X machines.
However, with OS 9 (which actually supports the WS's old Rage LT)

Usually I will let it charge up with a known-good battery at home over the
night and take it to class with me.
Two things happen - EITHER:
1.) I will get to class and notice that the Power LED is no longer

Well the first time I tried the 45.7mhz crystal (for a clock speed of
274mhz) it didn't seem to work, but I also had the laptop dissasembled
and no heatsink installed.
This time I have the heatsink installed, and guess what? The laptop
seems to be running pretty stably at 274mhz with 45.7mhz

that the modem was not getting a dial tone.
In your Modem control panel, try checking the box that says Ignore
Dial Tone. That should do it!
